My bf always shops here because he lives in Rozzie and is a little lazy.  He likes small stores with less floor to cover to get what he wants.  I know it's a bit overpriced but he would rather spend the extra money than to go to a Stop and Stop, which is too overwhelming for him.

I wouldn't recommend going here if there is another available choice, but there were open tonight at 9 on a Sunday to satisfy our ice cream fix, so it's got that going for it.

It's kinda nice sometimes to be able to do your grocery shopping without needing a floor plan of those massive supermarkets.  I use this place to supplement the food stuffs that I pick up at the Fish Market, Tony's and the Cheese Cellar.

From the outside this place looks like a quaint specialty market, but it's just regular groceries with inflated prices and literally nothing on sale. You can always spot a crappy grocery store that's exploiting its lucrative location/clientele by whether or not they carry Best Yet-brand generic products (i.e. the absolute bottom-of-the-barrel), then jack up the prices on that crap about 5-10%. This is one of those places.

Also, there are tiny signs everywhere reminding you that you're on camera, being watched, and will get caught for shoplifting. Hey mysterious-guy-who's-watching-me, guess what? I'm not shoplifting, just shopping. And I'm totally creeped out by the fact that you're watching me so intently from behind the curtain or wherever.

I bought my bare necessities and booked it out of this store. I recommend you do the same. Or not go at all.

I agree with most of the reviews, although I have never noticed the signs regarding cameras and shoplifting.  The meats are much too expensive, but you can get good sales if you pay attention.  Nice Deli iand seafood counter with the occassional special.  Seafood is always fresh.
I have found the staff there always friendly and attentive.  The manager even stocked some Amy's products upon my request.
Sure it might be a glorified Shaws, but with space being what it is in the Village, it suits the purpose

What the hell is up with this grocery ? It is basically a Shaws, except that it sucks a lot more than a regular Shaws. I think they were going for a Whole Foods type appearance to keep up with the incoming yuppies in Roslindale but the food is just supermarket stuff at a super inflated price. Another fun part about coming here is the parking lot, all 15 spots - for all 50 SUV's that are all trying to cram into the super compact spots. Once your inside I can only offer this advice:

-hit the olive bar, Roslindale is famous for greek fare and they must have hired a consultant to stock this one

-stay clear of the fish counter, seriously

Go shop at a convenience store. Really, it's cheaper.

Shop there frequently. Every day items are not more expensive. Have found many items cheaper than Roche Bros. No funny feeling, no problems. They try to carry a wide range of things and do a pretty good job. Not reliable on fresh produce of every ilk.. but I find this place convenient, friendly, I wouldn't buy meat there, Tony's Market and Roslindale Fish are steps away. Fornax across the street. With that set up, it suits my needs.

Oh, a good bulletin board and a convert your change machine. If you can walk there it's a definite plus. If you *Like* Stop and Shop you probably won't like this store.

I have been coming to Village Market for over 6 years now. To be Honest I hate that store. The cashiers are slow and RUDE! They always have a bit of an attitude (you're working at a supermaket, don't be mad at me, be mad at yourself.) The guy who I think is the MANAGER FOLLOWS ME TO THE FROZEN FOOD SECTION 95% of the time that I go there. He'l be in the front, by the time I get back there he is there for like no reason. Tonight he got up in my face and didn't even say excuse me. I heard that he is a pedophile pervert, so please ladies watch out for him. I have heard stories from young girls who use to work there. RUDE PEOPLE, HIGH PRICES, and YOU GET FOLLOWED BY A GUY WHO MAY BE A PERV OR THINKS YOU'RE STEALING.

Best Supermarket music ever!  Classic rock that you don't hear on the radio!  If you just need a few things this place is good, but don't go here to do your regular shopping.  and yes the parking is retarded.

Small market, carrier some good gourmet items but it is overpriced. I think management should update it and it would have more customers.
