10 reviews for The Vajra
This is exactly the type of business I like to support - my neighborhood, small scale, offering something unique.
I went into the place to buy incense - they make it themselves. I walked out with three different kinds and a really cool holder. They have other kinds of spirituality related things here too, if you're into that. I'm not, but for my money, it's the best incense I've found, and since I walk by all the time, it's now my favorite place to buy it.
Hey vajra, did you ever consider thinking about the health of those around you? How loving and evolved is it to regularly expose people with asthma, auto-immune diseases, allergies, etc to your odors? Stop lighting incense. Consider the impact you have on the people around you instead of forcing your ideas on others.
I went with my friend Dan so he could get some incense... and well, I ended up leaving with a couple of the Vajra brand to sample for myself. I picked up a Forest Mist and Tibetan Sandalwood... Very nice and clean! I'll go back again, they have some really nice meditation/room fountains too! Be sure to look up and down when in there, there are some really nice finds!
It's always nice to see inside a small store and see a smiling face. She wasn't talkative that drives you right out, either. The scent of the incense just draws your curiosity followed by your body right in. There are so many electic items here. You can get your tarot cards read. There are buddhist relics, incense, candles, and beautiful blank inside flower cards. My friend ended up getting a few cards, and the prices are worth the unique finds.
I haven't been to the store in many years... gosh, maybe 2002. I still have some of the bags of incense I bought there, and as I am burning them at home today -- all the way in Los Angeles -- I followed the little sticker on the bag through the internet to try and find out with is in this Nile Temple blend. Who knew little gold rocks went lit on charcoal would fill my entire house with a beautiful deep musk.
Way back when, they had a giant wood prayer wheel outside the door... is it still there?
I give it 5 stars because i went there on a mission for one thing and they had it! The Plum Essential Oil..... Amazing! It smells so good i could eat myself.
This place was recommended to me by a friend because she was wearing the oil and I had to have it.
The girl working there ( Nikki ) was super sweet, and told me how cute my daughter is.... major brownie points :) Well she is cute.
Anyways, it is small and great and if you need some yumminess in your life ...
GO THERE!
Good incense selection.
Interesting cards.
Tarot decks.
Unique gifts.
Earrings.
Stuff like that.
Sara Fairy works here! She is a holistic knowledge bank, a talented henna artist, and one of the best hair-weavers in the city! Sara rules. Her creative braid-work can be seen all over town on people of all nationalities. She is always booked at certain times of the year (before major events like Burning Man...) The Vajra carries a lot of incense and meditative/yoga-hindu-holistic-items, and henna and jewelry and other cool stuff... They also offer Tarot and Henna by appointment at their store on Broadway.
Here I've found a wonderful array of incenses, especially the Pavitra from Shrinivas Sugandhalaya, Bangalore....(yellow box). I should say that "Hypnotherapy for Positive Change" sounds a little bit too much seventies to me...and I was born in '75. Flower power?
This store stinks and is ruining my experience of going to get Pho next door at Than Bros. I should not have to smell the incense from this store when I am 30' down the street.
