I spent two consecutive weekends here before I left Miami. It's located in the ghetto (as many other Miami clubs are) and parking can be expensive, but that doesn't change my opinion of this place. The first night I went they were holding "back yard bamby" with a barbecue outside in the back. There was chill r&b outside, electronica in one room, and swing/disco/random other stuff in the third room. The people were pretty cool. The second time we went, the music was even better - the slow r&b outside was replaced by a band and the electronica room had more drum and bass... But it was a different crowd, and they kind of sucked. I'll definitely hit it up when I go back!

Being forced to come here after mediocre "maybe if I fake some things we can wrap this up quicker" sex did NOT put me in the mood to enjoy the Vagabound. So I went to the Vagabond with a mission: DRINK.

Mission accomplished!

I think I recall good music... I think I recall good drinks... I think I recall saying to myself;  "I could hang out here if I lived here"... and I don't recall much else.  However the jerk I was with recalls me getting drunk enough to say the unedited version of EVERYTHING that was really on my mind... as only someone who has had one too many drinks might do.  So for giving me Liquid Courage, Vagabond ya get 4 stars!

I *love* this club!

Now my favorite club in all of South Florida.  Wait.  No way.  Now that I think of it, this may very well be my favorite club in existence, period.  Gulp.

I went on a Friday night, which is Sweat Records night, and had a blast.  The place started really getting packed (but not annoyingly so) at 1am.  There were all types, mostly alternatypes, but it was all much more laid back and mature.  Since it's 21+, there weren't many teenyboppers striving with every last penny of their allowances to be hipster-glam versions of Paris Hilton, aching to be cooler-than-thou.  Also, the clientele consisted of mostly locals.  Everyone was so friendly (unlike in NYC or downtown Ft. Lauderdale or South Beach); whenever I was bumped into, even if it was my fault, they would turn around, come back to me, look me in the eye, and genuinely apologize multiple times.

The first room is a mix of rock and indie and oldies+soul.  This is where the busiest bar is, and where most of the moving traffic is.  However, the most I had to wait for a drink was a few minutes, and almost everyone was dancing.

The second room is darker, with lots of new wave, indie, eletronica stuff.  Smoke machines and disco balls.  My favorite music was played in here; it reminded me of Fridays at the now-defunct Roxanne's in Oakland Park.  This room has a huge dance floor where almost  everyone was dancing and having a great time.  I love DJs who spin a good assortment of new and older stuff so that you both get exposed to new music and have your favorites too.  Even if a song was unfamiliar, it was immediately catchy and fun to dance to.

The backyard/courtyard area is the size of both indoor areas combined.  There's a tiki bar, lots of outdoor furniture to lounge around on, a fountain that spouts both fire and water, and a stage.  At midnight a band played, but by the time I got there, it was yet another DJ who was playing some instrumental stuff with a lone drummer drumming along on his set.  The music was still club-like, but it was also not as loud so people could talk.  This is where most people were actually drinking, talking, and smoking.

There weren't actually too many smokers in the inner rooms/on the dance floors, so the smoke wasn't unbearable at all.  Plus, there was good ventilation in the place.  Not only are there two doors opening to the courtyard outside, but the A/C was on higher in the first room.  So if you wanted a change of pace, or wanted to cool down, or wanted to switch up the music a bit, it was so easy walking to and from each area.

No nonsense, $5 cover after midnight.  Cheap drinks for Miami ($7).  It felt top notch and laid back at the same time.

I only wish that the lighting wasn't so dark inside so that you could better people watch.  :)

This is IT guys!  Check it out before the mainstream mortals ruin it : )

Friday nights are the best, from my experience.  The gal from Sweat records spins there in the main bar and I always like here mix of Brit- Pop and 90's electro.

It pays to get there early, so you avoid the cover.  Be careful where you park.  People in the neighborhood wear orange vests and tell you where to park and a lot of the time they have no authority to do so.  They just take your money and tell you to park somewhere where you might get towed.  FOR REAL!

But I always have a blast at the Vadge, except for the last time I was there; but we won't get into that : p

you remember I/O?  well, the vagabond has moved into I/O's old location.  i was here this weekend and i have to admit, it felt comfortable and fresh all at the same time.

two different  bar areas and a great outdoor patio!  i could do without the tiki in the patio area, but whatever... i can't remember exactly what I/O's interior was like, but i think the vagabond is much nicer.  they've already got a few weekly parties going.  money$shot is supposed to be good.  and sweat records is throwing the indie party here on fridays and pretty much anything sweat touches turns to gold... so get in early before it gets 'too cool'.   oooh... and $1 stella and pbr's.  how can you beat that?!

dig the outdoor water/fire fountain... however, remember these very important words.  seriously, you'll be drinking and you'll forget... don't forget... the fountain, however pretty and inviting, is VERY, VERY wet.  DO NOT SIT BY THE FOUNTAIN.  admire it from afar.  that being said, i'm sure i'll get drunk again and sit on that wet fountain. :(

UPDATE:  upgraded to 5 stars, cause every single time i've gone, which pretty much means i've gone every weekend since they opened... i have a kick ass time.  even when they ran out of $1 stellas and/or lied to me last weekend... i still had a great time.
