The difference between a 2 and a 3 here is the fact that I have had competent people help me, just not all the time. The manager and the women who work there are very helpful. The younger guys need a couple lessons on customer service such as stop playing on the computer when someone is waiting to be helped. I saw the game dude--do not try to pretend you were working.
Faxing is ridiculously expensive: $2.50 a page, but a necessary service as I will not buy a fax machine to use 2 times a month. Shipping has been fine and I have a storage unit downstairs--the only bummer is you do not have Sunday access so plan ahead to get those bikes out. The fact that the store is literally downstairs from my home is the biggest plus.

i got PUNISHED today for not being a bargain shopper...
i went here to get some copies done on the fly. dude helped me put electronic copier counter and set up my double-sided handwriting practice copies. caliente!
i was all... i'll do a 100 copies, how much is that? and he was all 8 cents each. i was all, okay, so that will be 8 dollars total? he was all... yes. loud and clear.
then he rings me up and it's 16 DOLLARS FOR THESE CRAPPY COPIES. i go you told me this would be 8 dollars. he gets all quiet and like the-technology-tells-*me*-what-to-do-esque, like blame it on the copy counter, blame the cash register, but dont actually talk to the person using these tools to JACK YOU!!! i repeated our conversation back to him and told him you should have known and you should have told me that this would be not be 8 dollars, but he just looked down and shrugged.
RIDICULOUS.

These guys are friendly and helpful. They have a Notary service. They can do UPS stuff as well as some US Post Office shipping.
It seems to me that some of the negative reviews on this place have more to do with UPS prices and service in general, not this particular location -- so take that into account as you read the negative reviews.
I needed to ship some bottles of liquid; they offered to wrap them for me in their wine styrofoam packages, which sounded great, so I accepted. They took the seven bottles into the back, and came back a few minutes later with them in little styrofoam things - looking great.
They then ring me up, and at this point, and only at this point, tell me that each little piece of styrofoam the used was $8.50, and thus I owed the over a hundred dollars.
When I complained, they offered to slash 25% off the price - therefore indicating that they knew they were ripping me off. $6 per small piece of styrofoam is still a joke, so I made them unpackage them and took then down the block to Cole Hardware, which sold me everything I needed to package them for a couple of dollars.
When I came back, they wanted to charge me for a few sheets of packing paper they had sitting in their RECYCLING BIN.
No concept of customer service.
They're easy to use and efficient if you want to mail something and the Post Office won't do, but avoid them for anything else at all.

I have used these folks since 2006 - and love them. I have used a handful of other ups stores in the bay area and none are as friendly, helpful, and reliable.
The only bummer is there is no 24 hour access to the mailboxes. Hopefully soon!
I use this location about twice a week when I work from home. I have never had to ship anything but for printing, making copies, and faxing it is pretty cheap and easy to do it here. The staff is really friendly - esp Irene.
A great help is that you can email things to the store with printing instructions and they will print it for you and you can drop by and pick it up whenever. VERY HANDY!
so i came in to "use" the computer today. needed to print something from the computer. alfreda quoted me $3 to use the computer and $.15 per copy. so i was sitting there minding my own and i just kept on hearing them yap and looking at me. i don't blame him, he must be on his period or some crap. so i finished and he charged me 1 cent for tax. what a cool guy!
cliffs:
alfreda is lonely ='(
UPS is cheaper to send bigger boxes than USPS. Seriously. Excellent service. I used them for the first time when I moved out of San Francisco. They did so much for me and I appreciate that so much. I hope in the future I will use them again when I visit or move back.
Owner/manager Alfred is kind of neurotic and bristled when asked if they charge more than the main UPS outlets. Come on, dude - it's a legitimate question. Apparently they don't, and I'm taking them on their word.
No burritos.

Today UPS tried to tell me it would cost $47 to ship a wedding gift to the east coast. And, that it would cost an extra $40 to make a custom box for the gift.
Instead, I stopped in to Cole Hardware and they not only gave me one of their empty boxes and bubble wrap for free, they also shipped it (because I'm a frequent shopper). Grand total: $7.46.
Give me a break, UPS.

I needed to ship something back as a return..the staff was very helpful..straight up with me with the cost.. no problems at all.. I really liked who helped me, Irene..real nice..
another plus, the store was not shabby and the neighborhood looked good..
This place is a godsend for those working from home in Noe Valley. The staff were cheerful and enthusiastic at helping me with a long series of printing, faxing, and shipping tasks throughout the summer. (As they get to know you they can grow quite chatty, for better or worse.)
The only drawback is that they don't have customer-accessible computers in the store, so to print you need to put something on a CD or a jump-drive before going in.

Alfred, the owner of this store, has proven his lack of concern for customer satisfaction to a super extreme degree. The situation: A friend needed a piece of art shipped to her from SF. She spoke with OB at this store who claimed to be "the best" at packaging art, giving examples of other pieces they had successfully shipped. So, on my friend's suggestion, I went to this store to ship her piece. I explained -- both on the phone before I brought it in and again in person, once I was there, that this was an art piece, fragile, and needed to be packaged accordingly. "No problem, we do this all the time!" was the message that I rec'd in return. I paid $230 and insured the piece for $1,000.
Well, there was a problem. A BIG PROBLEM. The piece arrived damaged -- all of the corners bent -- and was thus, unsalable and unshowable.
When we went to Alfred and OB for recompense, they told us that we needed to file a claim through UPS. Then they each went on (at different times) to say how it wasn't "their fault" it was UPS' "fault." After listening to this for a while, I said "listen, your customers perceive YOU as UPS. The name of your store is UPS. So, even though on the back end you differentiate between your store and the larger company, you're not doing a whole lot to help me maintain trust in UPS when you spend so much time blaming them and not taking any responsibility yourself for the damaged package." Or something like that....
The long and short of it. UPS Claims did come through and paid out 85% of the original $1,000 insurance.
However, Alfred, the owner of this store REFUSED TO REFUND THE SHIPPING AND PACKAGING costs associated with the damaged package. When I asked him what his refund policy was in cases like this, he spent a lot of time whining about how it wasn't his fault and that he "already paid" UPS so he would be "out money" if he refunded us for the shipping. I told him that I didn't want to hear the details of his business woes, but that I wanted to know the refund policy.
He then said "No refund. It was not my fault. No refund."
The entire experience was so frustrating. There were SO MANY opportunities for Alfred to do the right thing and to foster customer satisfaction under very stressful circumstances. He never came through.
Don't go here.

This brand-new outpost of the UPS Store is right around the corner from the Post Office, thereby making it possible to complete most of my shipping needs in one walk down the street. Although like all UPS Stores, this place charges more for your basic USPS shipping, it was still a plus to walk in here on the busiest mailing day of the year and not have to wait to get a package out. There's also several notaries on staff and plenty of shipping materials for sale, some of which are oddly cheaper than the Post Office.
this dude tried to jooke me for like 7 bones. ups was 10 and us post was 3 bones so i took us post because what i was shipping to NY was like 3 oz and cost me 12$ so why would i ship it for 10 when i could get a new one for 12 shipped to me? i dunno
