This UPS store is so convienent. Tony is there early in the AM to start off my day with jokes and get my packages. He is great with customer service.
In the afternoon I usually see Sean and he is super quick to help you out. He is always efficient and pleasant on the phone.

I have a mailbox here, but I love to go in for their greeting cards. They are sooo funny. All in all , this UPS store is friendly & efficient.

We needed a notary and needed it within the day if we could. This place was right across the street from work. Ran in there at noon, bracing myself for what I thought could be quite a wait, cost, and overall pain the butt.--but beggars on a time crunch cannot be choosers.

I was pleasantly surprised. We walked right in, told them we needed a notary, one of the staff members got started right away on taking our ID info. for the notarization. We were done and out within 10 minutes for $20. I'm sure you could get a cheaper price for a notary elsewhere, but this was money well spent for the speed, convenience, and lack of hassle

I love this place. The staff are super cool. I've been there since they opened many moons ago. And when they changed owners, the new owners stepped up the professionalism. And if things were out of order, they fix it right away.

The Positives:
Convenient location and One stop shop much like the Fedex/Kinkos
Near a Walgreens and Dry Cleaners (both friendly and great service as well) as well as a block away from Borders and Safeway..and near a Wine Store as well..
Near Public Transportation - Muni, Taxi, Caltrains
Plenty of Street Parking
They have a parking facility as well.

Negatives:
I don't live next to it. But they are en route when I go to work or to mtgs..

I understand the prior commentary about efficiency however - it seems redundant when the US Post Office itself has a ton of people working for it and still they have long lines while UPS Store has a considerably less in staffing - but still delivers and meets the task at hand by being the one stop shop (UPSing, copying, key making, stamp making, POB, packing, faxing, etc).

In true essence, some folks need to have patience and not be in a rush like a four year old.. Also, logical reasoning would say to double check the package/labeling whether or not they worked on it or you did. Just to make sure everything is correct... In addition, the package will eventually arrive within the time line provided by UPS as they have a tracking number that is normally associated with the package. Also, Tony is cool, Sean as well, and the other staffers too. The owner I met twice - he's cool as well. I haven't had a bad experience with them.. - they've all have been responsive to my needs. So thus the five stars, I would give 6 - if I could..

These guys have always treated me right; now granted I don't send tons of stuff all the time but I've been there enough that I feel like I have a good enough perspective to comment. The guys (they've always been guys while I was using this store) were always very nice and helpful, don't really expect much more from a UPS store.

The staff and client experience can be fairly inconsistent - but I mostly get a huge waiting times, and someone who doesn't seem to care much about my needs.
I'm not sure what they're doing in this business.

Sorted out with my credit card company, thank goodness.  One thing I forgot to add last time, was that the experience was so outrageous that it inspired me to start this account so I could write the review.

Not to say other UPS stores are bad too, they are all franchised, apparently.  Just this one.

Very friendly staff. Long hours of operation.  I have had a mailbox there for years now and I'm very glad with the service. I also get 10% off the cost of other services due to my mailbox!

The people who work there are very nice... but extremely slow.  Given the shop is a block away from Caltrain, I, as I'm sure a lot of other folks saw this as a convenient spot to get the mailing done before getting on the train in the morning.  I'd hope that the manager of the store saw the same opportunity from the business perspective.  But no.  Even in the morning, the person behind the counter is extremely slow, does not bother start serving/asking questions from the customers who are in line, etc.  Bottom line - I either have to allow a large amount of time before the train, or use another store on the weekend.

I've had a box here for years.  The entire staff is responsive, helpful and genuinely care about our mail and packages.

I utilize their shipping and notary services occasionally.  Never a problem.

We have a key for late night access to our box.  Very convenient.

The parking lot between Walgreens and The UPS Store is a godsend in this neighborhood.

I would highly recommend this UPS Store to anyone looking for a mailbox, requires Notary services or has a few packages for shipment.

If you come in more than a few times, I guarantee Tony and Sean will remember you and probably your name!

I came here to ship some items via UPS.  Easy right? WRONG.  First you have to fill out a form which they then have to take and enter into a computer.  I found this out after waiting in line for 10mins while the two guys helped explain notary procedures to a customer.  After filing out the form, I had to wait while they helped the  same customer in the store.  It took two guys to help send some letters she needed notarized.

Neither of them acknowledged me or gave me a courtesy "We'll be right with you sir."

Their prices are ridiculously high, their service below standard.

I guess when you work in the postal industry and you have to deal with impatient people who have been lugging around some crap they just have to send to someone because they haven't learned the joys of internet shopping, you can tend to get a bit cranky. I've found the fellas that work at the UPS Store to be quite delightful, of course, I've only popped in when I have a prepared, ready to go package and I say "Hi, please take my box and ship it to someplace fantastic" which doesn't leave one open to many snarky remarks.
Let brown work for you man!

Staff is sort of not very "customer service" oriented. I walked in and the lady was talking about how she couldn't wait to get off. No big deal, I mean I count the minutes till I get off too.

I sent a letter through them for 64 cents envelope included. They are open late which is good cuz the Postal Office closes right at 5.

It does the deed.

I usually go in once a year to pick up wine box shippers.  The staff is always super courteous and if I know how many I need in advance, I usually call ahead and they'll put them aside for me.  30 boxes one year.

This year, they didn't have any boxes available and gave me the names and locations of a few other places I should call, including a non-UPS Store.  Now that's called customer service, as far as I'm concerned.

This is more of a rebuttal to the review by mishcarity, because I like the staff there.  Every time I dropped in everything went smooth.  Not sure how you could say the customer service is terrible.  I've never had a problem, but I guess I could see where if you're being rude to them, you'd be treated the same.  Took over a week to resolve?  Keep in mind, that's the UPS process - nothing to do with the staff there.  It also sounds to me like Sean was going the extra mile in offering to cut down a larger box to make the item fit.
Anyway, I just had to share my opinion that the staff there is great.  I guess if you're rude, then don't go to this store.  But, if you're polite and want some assistance, then i would recommend it in a heartbeat.

I just went they and charged me $49 for a 13.5 lb box??? WTF-the online site said it would be $22. Employee told me 'that rate is only for ups customers'

ok.

get home and husband questions why it was so much. He looks at reciept that states: box was 13.5lbs shipped at 33.5lb rate
WTF!
I'm calling UPS first thing monday morning to complain. There is something fishy going on-are they padding prices and keeping the overage?? NOT COOL!

The UPS store on 4th St between Townsend & Bluxome has terrible customer service! Employees are rude and imcompentent. An employee named Sean Castillo once sent 2 packages to opposite addresses. The package that was supposed to go to New York went to Florida & vise-versa. Took over a week to resolve! Unfortunately, I needed a oversized box to ship out an item sold on Ebay and returned to the UPS store and lord and behold Sean helps us out a second time. We asked to see 2 boxes, but neither would fit. He suggested cutting a huge box smaller to fit my item and rolled his eyes when I asked "how do you do that?" I don't work at a UPS store you idiot!!! I don't cut boxes down all day long. "Don't roll your eyes at me!" The manager at the store isn't any better. Unwilling to help! Don't ever go there! The post office will save you time & grief!

what's with all the whining here?
it's the next millennium
sign up on the web for a ups or fedex or usps (each takes 5 min) then you can print labels at your leisure via the web, in your jammies

I needed this store for a different reason, public notary services (damn harassing gub-ment from good ole' NYC).

After procrastinating, decided it was time to man-up, looked on yelp, found a few (somanotary by appt only, fedex kinkos Harrison st - only tue-fri or sat)
Well it was Monday.
The ups store has walk-in notary, I didn't ask the price, turns out $10 per sign, ouch!
Was in and out there in 10 mins (and $50 poorer), hence not the 5 stars for price (altho I guess its the going rate)

the only time you would go to a store like this is if you were:
in a pinch (and have them do it all)
very local
don't have access to scale, computer or printer, shipping supplies etc
need notary, faxing, po box, or other office type svcs

I buy and sell on ebay regularly, so very used to shipping stuff and the most important thing is preparation.
Have a plan, get all the packing materials ahead of time,  overpad ur item, weigh it, generate the label and drop off at shipper, have next day pickup for a fee, ups like $2.xx via the web or hand it to a driver (free)

The worst thing when you go into any shipping place is to have clueless, unprepared people than don't have even have 1 form filled out, let alone their item boxed, then they want to fill out their forms while holding up the whole line, back of the bus, buster

Thank god I didn't encounter that today

I needed to ship a fairly big framed photograph to Paris for a wedding gift, and I've had good experiences shipping from other UPS stores, so I figured this store which is close to where I live would be the place to go.  I was sadly mistaken.  Since they were "professionals", I wanted them to handle all the wrapping and packing to make sure it got there safely.  Shouldn't be a big deal, right?  Wrong.  What should have been a quick 5-10 minute trip turned out to be 30 minutes of waiting around as the sales clerk gripped about having to build a custom box, called another store to ask how to handle it, and generally gave me the impression that I was making them go through a lot of trouble just for my sake.  Considering that I was paying hundreds of dollars for all of this, I could have cared less how much time they'd have to spend.  After telling me they might not ship it out that day, but that they'd definitely ship it out the next day at the latest, I left and thought that would be the end of it.  After a few weeks I had just about forgotten about the experience, when I received an email from UPS with my tracking information for the package... which I thought was a little odd since surely my package had been shipped weeks before, right?  Nope, they had in fact just shipped my package, three weeks after I had been at the store.  I wish I was exaggerating, but I'm not.  Ok, fine, but at least it would get there safely, right?  Wrong again, when it finally arrived the frame was broken.  Now I certainly understand that accidents do happen, and they can get a new frame, it's not the end of the world, but I've shipped everything from a computer to a TV from other UPS stores, where they've had to build custom boxes and ship things far more fragile than a framed photograph, and in each case they've arrived safe and sound.  It's not like Jacques Chirac is waiting at the French border, waiting to give a thorough shake to packages arriving from capatalist American pigs.

Thank you UPS store on 4th! I arrived 1 minute before closing with a heavy box in my arms. I had 4 more in the car and they were literally locking the doors as I arrived. They not only helped me haul everything from my car to the store, but waited for my friend to arrive with the printed packing slips, which took 10 minutes or so. If they hadn't been so nice and accommodating when they could have closed the store, it would have been very difficult to catch a flight a few hours later since everything had to be shipped before departure.

My experience here was horrible.  Staff is arrogant and incompetent.  After the representative made his third gross error with my shipment (wrong address on label, wrong label on package, omitted the critical reference number), I took my packages back and went to a different UPS Store.  The store in SOMA is a joke.
