Normally I love a nice, thick crusty slice of pizza and Upper Crust is definitely for thin-crust lovers.  Perhaps that is where the issue lies between me and Upper Crust- I just don't find their crust satisfying.

They are conveniently located, though and it's a great place to grab a quick bite in Coolidge Corner.  You don't have to beg for a glass of water- they're available right on the counter and if you're a soda drinker, refills are free and plentiful.

I like the slice of the day concept.  The slices are always interesting and it's fun to experiment.  Side salads are a little blah, but hey, you're not here for the salad.

$7.50 for lunch (includes a slice of roasted pepper pizza, choice of a side salad, and it also comes with a flat bread (infused with rosemary).

I enjoyed my thin crust pizza but had too much cheese and the pizza was on the softer side (not too crispy).

This place is packed with limited seating.

The concept - You order at the counter and then they will call/bring you your food.

I wouldn't say Upper Crust has the best pizza I've ever had, but for what it's worth, I think they are one of the best in Boston. Although not an expert, I am definitely a devoted pizza lover and I have tried a lot of pizzas at a lot of different places including the motherland of pizza--Italy. Having eating countless pizzas in the world, I have acquired a preference for thin crust pizzas that are moderately topped with fresh ingredients and cheeses. And I was pleasantly surprised to find that quality at a chained shop such as upper crust. The best part about this place is not only the fact that they have a wonderful selection of toppings, they even do pesto base or splashes on their pies!

Expensive? Maybe slightly, for some people's standards. but Overpriced? Definitely NOT. Their quality can almost compete with a sit-down Italian restaurant, so I don't mind paying a bit more than I do for the sub-shop down the street.

I have always found the stores clean and comfortable. The fact that they service wines and beers is pretty awesome, just like their amazing chicken caesar salad.

The Upper Crust is a thin crust pizzeria. I'm a thick crust type of guy. So we aren't all that compatible. They do get points for the variety of toppings and having whole wheat crusts. Feel like they are a little over priced as well.

I love the Upper Crust.

I love good pizza, I love bad pizza.  I'm not that picky, but I can recognize when pizza is "crappy" pizza.  I still love chewy, doughy crusts slathered in cheese, occasionally dipped in copious amounts of Ranch dressing.  Judge me.  That being said, I love the Upper Crust's thin pizza with sensible amounts of cheese, sauce, and all the toppings that you can get on it--I usually stick with spinach and roasted red peppers, and I can eat about half a pie by myself.  Yes, it's expensive, but it's my favorite pizza joint in Boston by far.  I've never had a bad pizza here.

That being said, I docked a star for delivery.  Once, my junior year of college, I ordered a pizza and was told that they didn't deliver to BC after 5 (it was around 5:30 or 6 at the time).  I had to hike all the way down to Coolidge to pick up my now totally cold pizza, even though it would have taken them approximately 10 minutes to drive to BC.  Did I mention it was February and it was freezing out?  Yeah.  Not cool.  The pizza's fine reheated, but it's just not the same.  Plus, it's not nearly as tasty when you're pissed off and bitter at wasting a good hour going to pick it up.

Basically, skip the delivery, get some friends and go get a fresh pizza.  Done and done.

Over-hyped and average. Nothing special at all. This place is very small and cramped can't help feeling a little claustrophobic. I've been here two times, I do second-chances, shared a large pepperoni and "The Uncommon Pizza". Both times the pizza crust were a lil' burnt and the pizza was really soggy.

I love bacon and I had to try "the uncommon pizza" and I was really disappointed. The bacon were little minced pieces, couldn't enjoy them at all. The pineapples were the same and very scarce. The only good thing on the pizza were the Jalapenos peppers, hot and fresh tasting.

I can't see what all the fuss is about this place, just over-rated. The frozen "Culinary Circle"  pizzas in Shaws are much better their pizza. And to those that think you can't do better for $4 a slice, then my friends you need to try out "Antonio's Pizza by the Slice" (more creative toppings and all of them are good. I kid you not!!!) in Providence &  Amherst or "Rays" in NY.

Worst pizza I've EVER had...
... with the exception of the Hi-Fi pizza with cockroaches crawling on it that I did not actually eat.
Why is this place so popular? I do not know! And it is damn expensive for such disappointment.

I rarely eat pizza because I think its greasy, fattening and bad! but upper crust pizza is not your ordinary pizza. Boyfriend convinced me to come here last week and we ordered a buffalo chicken with tomato pizza and omg! I was so pleasantly surprised. I loved the thin crust- was really not greasy at all, and tasted so healthy!! Would def come here again. This is the only place i'll ever eat pizza from now :D

Delicious! For the price, time and convenience it's totally worth it. I'm pretty picky about my pizza, and I strongly feel that a huge slice under $4 shouldn't taste that good. I love the feel of the Upper Crust. It's the normal pizza joint with an upscale twist and it works really well. They are creative with their pizzas, and give a lot of healthy options. They even have a small selection of good beers. I will definitely be coming back to Upper Crust.

I kind of don't get what's so great about this place. I think I 'loved/raved' about this place b/c it was the conformist thing to do. Their pizza is good and fresh, except when you get that ONE slice when they are at the end of a pie and the cheese has congealed.

They get me to eat my veggies! One of my favorites is the Garden Veggie (mushrooms, onion, bell pepper, BROCCOLI--but it's the garlic that brings it home!), it is really very delicious. I think their calzones are fantastic, actually they are, I think! better than the pizza. (order extra sauce)

It's not the obnoxious delivery (it is obnoxious! where I used to live, on the website it said my area wouldn't be charged for delivery, but when it came to signing the receipt, there it was 'delivery charge'--and it was already charged to my credit card)...

what i can't STAND STAND!.....is, can i ask, but what kind of stove they use? I take home my slice and there is burnt shmutz  on the bottom of my slice. It makes me want to vomit.

If i walk by, and I see they are serving one of my FAV 'slice of the day' slices (steak, onion, gorgonzola! OMG! SO GOOD--yes you'll need a mint before and after......and then after again) But, first thing i do when i get home w/ my slice is turn it on it's back side and scrap the burnt stuff off. The taste is AWFUL.

Overall, YUM, but meh....

You get what you pay for, well, in this case anyways. UC in Brookline is high quality pizza that they don't exactly give away (well, maybe when my friend Leah's working. Sshh.) It's thin crust with chunky tomato sauce and fresh toppings. If the slice of the day doesn't do it for you, go with standard pepperoni, my all-time fave.

The biggest problem with Upper Crust is also one of it's most charming attributes. The delivery guys ride bicycles with boxes mounted on the back and peddle the pizza to your door in summer time. Nice touch I know, but it takes them fucking forever to get there and when they do, the pie's cold. Winter's not as bad because they're forced to use cars.

I prefer to go into this place. It's in the heart of my neighborhood, Coolidge Corner, and it's the ideal place to eat before a movie at the theater, which UC is adjacent to. It's also cool to see the guys working in the kitchen through the big picture windows. Oh yeah, you can get local draft beer here, and what goes better with 'Za than a frosty Harpoon?

The inside is small with a half dozen tables and some nice TVs. You can't beat this neighborhood in the summer where people watching and walking around with a slice is just what you do. Make sure you hit the spices counter to finish the pizza off right. I use 'em all (except salt).

Pretty good pizza. A bit too pricey for regular consumption plus you always need a friend or two to also be in the mood for pizza unless you want to risk the slice o' the day (or just eat a whole pizza yourself, that works too), but they do have some nice unique-ish flavor combos... I really like the chicken pesto, it's flavorful and tasty and is overwhelmed with pesto (in a good way). I like that you can choose a whole wheat crust too, and the quality is standardized across locations which is nice (I've been to the Newbury location as well). Not something I ever really "crave", but if someone else is ordering a pie to split, you can most likely count me in...

Not nearly as good as it pretends to be, but the owners are good people. Perhaps if there was a new category for whatever it is when you have a thin crust, sparsely covered with sauce and cheese, then topped with anything you can think of and costs an arm and a leg, this might be good. However, it is NOT good pizza.

I have no idea how this place got so overrated. They do thin slices, have slow service, and that's it. They're a pizza shop. Big whoop.

Will I go again? Yeah, probably, if I feel like pizza and I don't feel like waiting an hour for delivery. But I'm not going to make a point of it.

Tasty, if expensive, pizza from a local Boston company. Amongst my friends, Upper Crust is understood to be fancy pizza, a place we go when we don't feel like greasy delivery pizza, but when we also don't feel like spending money to sit down in a restaurant.

The "slice of the day" is my personal favorite thing to order, since it seem like a slice is 1/6 of a pie, versus the standard 1/8. Plus you get fancy toppings (something different everyday, of their choosing).

And while each slice may be a dollar or two more than a normal pizza place, they have a frequent buyers card that helps save a bit of money.

All in all, the extra money you spend is well worth it for the high quality ingredients and delicious pizza.

Sorry, not a fan.

Both times we've ordered a pizza here, it has arrived quickly enough, but the crust is so dried out and, what, um, dusty? Yes, it was so dry it was dusty. Maybe they need to put some olive oil on the pan first? You'd think at a place where you can actually watch the guys kneading and flipping the dough, it would have some pizzaz.

But no.

Toppings seemed okay, but a little sparse.
Where can one get a good pizza around here???

Big props for their delivery service, though. It's done by bicycle!

But the pizza itself is too dry, so two stars.

I've had a couple experiences with upper crust and some have been amazing and some have been - eh.  I ordered a half veggie/half some sort of meat pizza at one in brookline and liked it - but not enough to shell out the 25.00 I paid for it - again in the future.
We then ordered some at work from the one in Cambridge - and maybe becausae I was ordering with more experienced people with upper crust - it was amazing! We ordered a half 3 cheeses and half fresh mozzerella and tomato pie.  Both slices were GREAT.  Now I will order from upper crust again because of that experience - but I still think their pies are a bit overpriced for what you're getting.

Acceptable, but really not all that.
Wins "Best of Boston" year after year (hmmmm... wonder if that has anything to do with those huge ads they buy...) Service is spotty, and the 'za just really isn't that great. Kinda dry crust, and the tomato sauce seems real acidic - not offensive, just not real good....but If you need a quick fix before a movie at the coolidge or something, than go for it.
Other than that, go across the street to Bottega Fiorentina for some decent Italian food.

Ever since I was young, all of my girlfriends would get excited when summer came around because they tried to convince me that they ate less during the summer and more during the winter. They told me that during the winter, you're less active so whatever foods that you eat will not get worked off. Also, due to the cold weather, you're always in search of warmth and comfort and they insisted that you ate more during the winter than the summer. Therefore, when May or June came around, they would all be SO excited to take up the excuse of not eating and going to beaches for days at a time.

I beg to differ.

I will never forget the day I sat down at Upper Crust to reunite with my sixth grade teacher. She moved to Texas and wanted to see the ones that she still kept in touch with. It was a hot day in June and I sweated my butt off as I stepped off the T at the Coolidge Corner stop. I didn't walk for more than 3 minutes when there it was. I came in, shrieked and giggled like I was expected to, hugged her and my elementary school...er...acquaintances...like we were best of friends and sat down. What are you up to these days? You look great! You've been doing what? That's awesome! You know how it goes. We ordered. There were about...hm...I'd say ten of us? We started with three, large cheese pizzas.

As they came, we all took a slice and wolfed it down. Then we went for a second slice. Great. Four slices left, I was one of the people who grabbed a third. Seeing that we were all still hungry, we ordered two more pizzas. It came. I grabbed a fourth slice. Then a fifth. Out of pizza. We ordered just one more. By that time, everyone was pretty much done and were breathing heavily. I could see the droopy eyes of my friends and teacher, food coma settling in. I couldn't understand it. I could still go! By the end of those six pizzas, I had eight slices (a whole pizza) and was still hungry.

Dissatisfied as I was and as much as I didn't want to make a fool out of myself, I'm not exactly sure why, but I just wasn't full yet! So I ordered one more pizza, just for myself. All of these were just large cheese pizzas and I blame the fact that they were thin crust which is why I was able to eat so much. The pizza came, the oregano, Parmesan cheese, hot pepper flakes, and garlic powder went on ("Hey, Julie, you want some pizza with all that crap?). As conversation went on and everyone updated everyone else about their crappy lives, I continued eating, stopping only at the right times to laugh, gasp, smile, or make a man-I-don't-really-feel-bad-for-you-but-I-don't-wa nna-seem-heartless-so-here's-a-face-that-makes-me- look-caring kind of face. Yeah, I'm cold-hearted, but it's really hard to care when you've got an awesome pizza in front of you.

Finally, I polished off the last piece and honestly, I don't mean to sound cocky, but it just wasn't that hard for some reason. I felt like I had just eaten a normal meal, not a gigantic, incredibly bad for you and ridiculous amount kind of meal. It was maybe the second to last slice that we ran out of things to talk about and everyone just kind of stared in silence as I tried to eat as fast as I could. I'm a VERY slow eater and we had been there about three hours and everyone wanted to leave, I could tell, but they were all waiting on me.

Eventually, I was done and I haven't gotten another email from my sixth grade teacher since.

I have never eaten so much pizza before in my life. This is by far the most pizza I have ever eaten (two complete pizzas), but I do blame it on the thinness of it all and the fact that there isn't much substance.  I think that two of Upper Crust's pizzas would be equivalent to one of those subs/pizza places on the corner of your street. Anyhow, I told you all that incredibly long story to let you know how good this place is. It's so good that I ate two whole pizzas to myself even though the public could easily see me stuffing my face. Luckily, I have too much class for that now. I usually just bring it home and do it with a locked door and the shades drawn. It's the only safe place I can be with an Upper Crust pizza.

Being new to Boston and having heard that this place is good, we gave it a try. My girlfriend is a vegetable fiend, so we always have to order salad with our pizza. Thus, dinner was the garden pizza with a garden salad. Most probably do not judge a pizza place on the salad, but it was pathetic! Browning iceberg lettuce, shaved carrots, a couple tomatoes and a slimy cucumber or two. On the other hand, the garden pizza was delish! But, c'mon guys, step up your game on the salad. Working in Coolidge Corner, I'll probably be back for a slice, but never again for take-out. There are better (and even cheaper) options out there.

Upper crust is tasty for thin crust pizza.

I don't like comparing different types of pizza because it just simply isn't fair.  But I'm a pizza lover so I enjoy all types, though some more than others.

That said, the Upper Crust has its good points:

- Tasty pizza
- BIG slices
- free refills on the fountain soda!
- serve wine
- lots of options for toppings and creative topping combos

And like all places, it has its bad points:

- OVERPRICED.  $3 for a slice.  Really?
- not enough seating, so you should plan to get it to go, which usually annoys me because I don't want to have to fight for a table
- and again, overpriced.  around $20 for an entire pie that isn't that filling to begin with?  yowza.

I do indulge every so often, however only when my wallet lets me.  if it were cheaper i'd go there a lot more often!

Also, they are expanding like wildfire.  Good for them, definitely.  But there's something about a small neighborhood feel that it loses when it has locations EVERYWHERE around town.  In fact they're opening a new location right near where I work, so there's a good chance I'll be dropping my money on overpriced slices more often than I'd like.

im glad to see so many poor reviews from this monstrosity of a pizza place.  ill tell you what http://public.before you compare this to "anything better in nyc" go to new york and then tell me this is better then that. NY pizza doesnt have to tell you its good, it is good.

the 'za is lame, the crust is anything but upper (actually i like my crust to have sustenance) and the sauce is awful, too chunky.  if i wanted to eat a can of peeled tomatoes, they sell that in the canned vegetable isle.  the price is of course the biggest slap in the face, please, i can understand a scallop pizza costing some cash, but plain still running into mid 10's ?? no thanks.

now wifey likes this, i h8 it, nothing against her, but shes knows better than to drag me here, i wont go, in fact, if she does suggest it, out comes the jerkface and no one wants that.

I keep wanting to give Upper Crust another chance. Their pizza, when hot, is arguably the best in Boston, but I've only gotten the pleasure of experiencing that once.

The first time I called to order Upper Crust they told me they were no longer delivering (at 8 PM on Friday night) and promptly hung up on me. Uno got my business that night.

The second time I called, I was treated to very abrupt service on the phone, but a hot, yummy pizza 45 minutes later.

The third time, abrupt service again and a cold pizza 2 HOURS after I called the first time. This is pretty unacceptable to me, but I thought it was a fluke and gave them another shot.

Fourth time didn't get me a better attitude when ordering and put the nail in the Upper Crust coffin. 2 1/2 hours, I waited for that pizza, and when it arrived, freezing cold with congealed, hardened cheese, it was COVERED in mushrooms. I despise mushrooms. After informing the delivery guy of all these issues, he told us we'd get a free pizza the next time if we mentioned his name and the situation. No thanks. First of all, what business is really going to believe me if I call and tell them that? Second of all, I don't even think a free pizza is worth waiting 2 hours.

Upper Crust, you have such potential. But I hate you. You lost your chance, all due to bad service.

The story: Too many complaints about this spot on the b0st0n livejournal community -- misshapen pizza, names mispronounced (yea, someone had a gripe about that as a deal-breaker!) so we of the b0st0n inclination made a trip here one fine Friday evening. About seven of us in all showed up.

The deal: I got a GINORMOUS slice of thin-crust pepperoni and a fountain drink. Pizza was hot and yummy, not misshapen. Fountain drinks are el-cheapo and you get FREE REFILLS *Choir of Angels SING!*   And they got my name right -- in fact, they got all our names right.

The negatives: If you're in a group of two or larger you will have a hell of a time finding a place ot sit. The seven-ish of us stood around awkwardly in a corner.

The conclusion: It's freaking good pizza!

Gummy, greasy, like thin, chewy cardboard, my hamburger-mushroom pizza arrived ahead of schedule.Too bad it tasted bad. However, this was just one pizza.
Very friendly customer service and moderate prices.

Okay.   It's high time I reviewed The Upper Crust.  The fans of this place will tell you there's nothing better in Boston, but I'd like to disagree.   The opponents will say this place is horrid and a waste of time, and, again, I would like to disagree.

The Upper Crust is just okay.   Sure, they push themselves and gourmet so they can charge a bit more for a pie, and I suppose I have to respect them for that, but the pie isn't worth the dough.

If you're going to call yourself The Upper Crust, I'd expect the crust to be phenomenal.   I'd expect crust so great you want to save it for last or gobble it up first because it's just that good.   This is no better or worse than any other run of the mill pizza crust.  Additionally, the sauce is bland, uneven, and uninspired.

Yes, they have a decent topping selection, and yes, I'll eat it if someone else is buying, but there's nothing exceptional about The Upper Crust, except, perhaps, a witty name.

If I'm going to eat pizza, it has got to be *good* pizza--and Upper Crust entirely fits the bill. Was at the Brookline location this past Saturday night, and even though the place was a-hoppin', we were able to score a table--and our pizza was ready in about 15 minutes.

What most impresses me about Upper Crust is that, despite being a super-thin pizza base with a nice amount of cheese and veggies atop it, I can actually pick it up and eat it--meaning, the pointy part of the triangle doesn't droop down and all my toppings don't go sliding onto my plate. This pizza may look wimpy, but it's durable. And delicious.

And they serve wine :-)

Derek's sister placed a pickup order over the phone so I had no idea what kind of pizza we were getting.  After picking it up, I asked....

Me: What did we get on the pizza?
D: Tomato
Me: And?
D: Basil
Me: I mean, what kind of meat?
D: There is no meat
Me: WHAT?

Even though I felt tricked, I still had 1 or 5 slices of the pizza.  That was one of the best Margherita pizzas I've had, I guess I won't hold ordering a meatless pizza against his sister.

Yummy!  The pizza at the upper crust is delicious!  I don't know if it's the best pizza I've ever had, but it's good.  There is this amazing place in Brooklyn,NY, near my aunts house, sooo sooo good!  That is the best!

I've always enjoyed their pizza.  It's always crazy busy.  Take out at Upper Crust works best for me, or a few slices and the movies!
