"European style" menu finally introduced. Several light meal options, and made to order cheese plates available. Classy atmosphere with comfortable seating options and antique mirrors.
4 stars for keeping up with state legislation, and offering brews with higher alcohol content, long illegal in South Carolina.

Yummy wines, beers, and cheeses---I love it! Live jazz Friday night. My only beef was the slow service.
Best picks of the evening were the 2003 Weninger Zweigelt (lush, complex red, a real treat) and the Humboldt Fog goat cheese with a generous slathering of the unbelievable house mustard. Zing!
High marks for the Mared Sous high gravity beer, too. The Trusted Palate is what Raval could be if its clientele grew up a little.
What a great place to find new, interesting wines at super reasonable prices. It also has wine tastings, entertainment, etc.
the owners have extensive knowledge about all varietals, and need limited input from you to find a fabulous new bottle for you to try.
Will be going back!

we have to resurrect Something every week: hopes for the next week, your vague ambitions, or only another demented sunday dinner. some people just do the smart thing and develop a drug habit. i like my gravity beer. although, as my grandfather said (as i sipped my water and he measured himself a stiff bloody), you're part irish, so you have to be careful about the liquor. honestly, i think everything the man says is a dare. bottoms up! actually, i don't even know why it's called gravity beer, and i asked. maybe i didn't listen. i was too busy drinking my gravity beer. all i know is, they have a high alcohol content (at least 7%, i believe) and were therefore illegal in soca til recently; meanwhile, you could buy all manner of hard-core liquor on every corner. our idiosyncrasies are so quaint! kind of like your stepgrandmother telling you the whole news media is "slanted to the left." me: oh i don't buy that for a second. but you're right: most of the news Is bullshit. (yes, i talk in colons.) haven't i given you reason enough to escape to king's inner sanctum, its heart of glass, its hall of mirrors? for the love of god, they have a beer for hunter s, with ralph steadman's rendering of him on it, brewed by his woody creek neighbor, and called - what else? - gonzo...and did i mention it's a gravity beer? what more do you want? a proprietor with a trusted palate, i guess, a proprietor who doesn't care if you want to entertain yourselves with rapid-fire fits about the second amendment (or lack thereof), who only wants to ply you with fine wine and gravity beer, a good samaritan who gives you a bottle of wine if he thinks you need it. (i always need it.) ponder the decor and write your novel, juliana through the looking glass; campaign to stop octogenarians from voting; make eyes at the mirrors. (once again, all hail the gravity beer!)
