As someone who's fresh from 3yrs on the west coast, this place may be suffering from reviews of locals who have lots of pubs with character from which to choose. I can tell you a place with history, a great draft selection, and local-feel is nearly priceless when looking for a local pub with good food, and this place has all those things. Would've given it 4 stars if wait staff was more friendly. Though, as a guy with a Yankees hat on, I did walk away happy to have not been engaged with any bitter debates on NY vs. PHI.
Steak sandwiches highly recommended! -

They make the best buffalo chicken sandwich, it is huge and sauce is great. They have good prices and I like when you can eat outside with the cute "beach"! I do agree with some the bathroom is gross and the inside is very dated, old chairs- feels like you are eating in an old basement. But the food is great, priced right and outdoor eating atmosphere is the best.

It is what it is...a local tavern. A good one. Just relocated from the Midwest and was distressed to find a lack of variety in eating establishments..pizza, pizza, pizza. Also, because of the bizarre and antiquated liquor laws I was forced to enter The Trappe to pick up a 6 pack after work one night. I stayed and enjoyed the atmosphere. Definitely a townie crowd. Nothing pretentious or foo-foo. Solid menu, reasonable on-tap menu and friendly servers. Sports on TV. The food is exactly as advertised and well prepared. Service was good. The Trappe does everything right. The outside beach looks like a perfect choice for beer and apps after work. This is truly not the kind of place you find just anywhere. The locals don't appreciate what they have.

I work near Trappe so people in the office often gather here for happy hour. It's just a local pub, nothing really extravagant here. They have a large parking lot, restaurant seating, an upstairs bar, a large deck out back, standard bar food and a lot of people rave about the prime rib (which I haven't tried yet). There's always various sports on the TV's and there's even a man-made "beach" out back off the deck which makes me laugh every time I see it.

I have a love hate relationship with this place...
The Trappe is very much a good local bar, with decent food (I actually think the food has gone down over time, but you can still get a good sandwich and fries). Good place to watch a game... lot's of TV's, a good amount of space, and an outdoor deck. Overall, a good place to meet with old friends or bring a big group. There are very good bar specials nightly, especially for someone who is used to spending $8 for a beer in the city.
The hate comes in with the dingy bathrooms, the basement feel of the downstairs bar, and the fact that all of poor souls who never made it out of the area after high school have been sitting at the same bar stools for the past 6 years. Yet once or twice a year, I go back. -

I've eaten here a number of times with friends. The Trappe is a great example of a place that is smack dab in the middle of the road, it doesn't suck but it isn't exceptional either.
The building is old and the interior of the restaurant/bar is VERY dimly lit. It isn't a bad looking place and the bar area has a somewhat nostalgic feel to it but overall it does feel like it could use a pick-me-up makeover.
Everything on the menu is the epitome of bar food quality or what I like to call belly filler, it's not horrible but it isn't that great either. I've had food I thought was above average and then I've had food that was somewhat disappointing.
Service is usually friendly and reliable.
Prices on food and drinks are about what you'd expect. I think that they tend to put more alcohol in the mixed drinks here than a lot of bars do so that's a definite plus.
For years the Trappe has been the rallying place for Ursinus college students so expect a decent size college age contingent.
Trappe Tavern is a safe bet for a reliable watering hole with food quality you'd expect at the same. -

This place is an average place. Good beer, good food, but nothing that leaves you screaming for more. Its a nice laid back townie sort of place for lunch and in the afternoon.
The place does have a nice history though. Back in the day travelers between Philly and Allentown would stop here for the night. Thusly their wives would call it the Trap. Eventually a town popped up there. They added a "pe" to make it seem like they didn't name the town after the inn. Just kidding. I don't know if that's true, I just wanted to write some more about this place. -

The Trappe Tavern is way overblown as far as bars go. The food is terrible, and the drinks are overpriced. However, they do have decent specials. Wednesdays are wings and pitchers, while Sundays are their infamous Silver Coin Nights.
Aside from their specials, I'd find another bar. There are plenty more in the area. For example, Hemmingway's in Collegeville or Iron Hill in Phoenixville. -

Awesome food, never had anything bad from there. I've had everything from Prime Rib which I think is the best around, to seafood. Monday they have AYCE crablegs, Tuesdays Strip Steaks, Wed Lobster, Thurs RIbs and the other specials. Jake is the chef and he really knows his stuff. For the price you can't beat the Trappe. Wings are good, great sandwiches, different other specials every night.
Service is above average most of the time. I love the out door deck, i can't wait till it cools down a little to enjoy it more. They have tons of beers on tap, tons of TV's. It's great place to watch the games. -

I was at the Trappe for a dinner awhile ago - our group was seated upstairs (probably a party of 20?) at a long table. The chief negative (might as well get that out of the way) was service. On the positive side, the jello shots were good, my Tavern Burger ($6) wasn't too shabby (peppers and mushrooms, oh my!), there are a ton of TVs on the walls (we were watching golf that night), ample seating, and live entertainment downstairs that we could hear. Pleasantly enough, it's NOT a dead spot - being down the street from Ursinus College probably doesn't hurt either.
I'd return to enjoy a band and knock back a few drinks. Of course I haven't yet since I don't know enough folks that would actually come out and DRINK with me out in Trappe, PA... -
Review from Percy N.
Pretty basic place to grab a beer and not venture too far from the bar finger-food items off the menu. I tried the pork fajitas which was apparently out of the league of the kitchen. The pork was tough and the onions and peppers where limp and mushy, not sizzling. Wife's chicken wrap was OK, but not necessarily memorable.
The layout is a bit odd and it can get pretty loud when it gets crowded.
If you want decent beer, food and a much better atmosphere, go to Sly Fox or Iron hill a few miles away. If however, you are looking for a local watering hole, this is your place. -

As I scan other reviews, I think people are missing the general point of the Trappe Tavern. It's supposed to be a local pub. It's place you can get out of the house to grab a beer and a burger, maybe meet some friends, catch a game, listen to music, and see everyone you ever went to highschool with. It hits the nail on the head. And the Wednesday and Sunday happy hour isn't bad. Since moving to CA I've come to fully appreciate the TT. I totally miss the cheap Yuengling, because I can't get any Yuengling for any price... And the cover bands aren't just half good, the fact that they exist is awesome. The food is above the classic bar food options, a little overpriced, but still "good." And the patio in the summer is the best one in PA west of Manyunk Brewery. Go for the drink specials, the bands, and that local pub feel.

During the school year, "The Trappe" really has the feel of a college bar (it's about a mile and a half down the road from Ursinus College). Decent selection of draft beers, standard bar fare (burgers, etc.), semi-nasty happy hour buffet. Lots of TVs, pool tables upstairs, some good stuff on the jukebox, and there's usually a band or DJ at night. It's also not a bad place to hit for a quick lunch. Nothing spectacular, though.

Carrboro, NC
Let's start with the good and get that out of the way - the burgers are huge, and they actually cook them to an accurate amount of doneness ordered ("medium" is legit). But their burgers don't come with toppings or a side of fries (they cheap out and give you chips and two tiny slivers of a pickle). If you dare desire lettuce, onions, or any other toppings be prepared to be charged more. And there is no warning of this in the menu or offered by your waitress. Otherwise the fries are terrible, the beer selection boring and predictable, and the waitresses friendly and efficient. Not a place I'd come back to if it can be avoided.

A bit sleazy, but whatever - some folks like their bars like they like their women. Met my cousin there for a few beers when I was back in PA visiting family (which they were able to supply). There was a terrible cover band playing, I think their name was the Flaming Buttholes, but I cant remember exactly. The deck out back is kind of badass though, would be cool to hang out there during summer.

One of my favorite places to hang out and do some day drinking! They have great specials on the weekends during lunch time and they recently built an outdoor bar area which also cool to sit at and have some lunch and watch the games. It is ultra casual and has a "countryish" vibe to it since it is pretty far out from Philly, but worth the drive to hang and get away from it all. Highly recommend it!

It's a sports bar, what more needs to be said. If your looking for fine dining, go elsewhere. Their sandwiches are large and well made. I have never gotten a bad meal but it is run of the mill bar food. It is a great place to go for lunch or after work. Staff is good. Sometimes like all business they get short handed and that is when you have troubles.

My BFF Sam took me here so I could experience some local "flavor". We took a seat at the bar right in front of the taps. It still took 10 minutes to get the bar keeps (who it turns out is the manager) attention. I got a #9 beer (I don't know the name, it has a 9 on the handle and is VERY good) and she got a rum and coke. We chugged, as is our way. 15 minutes later we were STILL waiting for the manager (who was less than 2 feet from us) to tear himself away from the Phillies game and take our order. We got more drinks and cheese fries and steamers. Manager dude brought them out without a word 15 minutes later. They were pretty good but the service put us in a bad mood. We decided we'd had enough of Managers 'tude and moved out to the patio. We got served RIGHT AWAY and the bartendress was super nice! If my BFF doesn't get her ass home soon and I MUST go visit her again, I'd come back here as long as we don't have do deal with Manager Jerkweed!
