If I am living in New York whilst engaged, this will be the first place I register. The Conran Shop holds a special place in my heart, as my parents are big fans of their products, and my childhood bed -- which still looks fabulous after two decades -- is from here. Once I moved to New York after college, I fell in love all over again.
The furniture and home decor is unspeakably cool, including many pieces that can't be found anywhere else in the U.S. The selection of books is well-curated and always includes at least five tomes that I absolutely must have. I've been to a few events and signings here -- it's a great venue, located under the 59th Street Bridge -- and it's just a really fun place to get inspired. It's my original Apartment Therapy.

Oh my. You pay out the ass at this place. But, the stuff here is awesome. You just have to brace yourself for the sticker shock.
I got my desk from here and it was way too expensive. Yet, I love it. I went through a phase where I wasn't sure, but I've gone back to loving it.
I think this is one of those places where you either have money to blow or you have a deep, intense, emotional connection to design. You fall in love with the product. Otherwise it's not worth it, even though the quality is very good.

ATTENTION: LOVERS OF PRODUCT DESIGN - come hither...
The Terence Conran Shop is a 2-story pantheon of pleasure. I managed to escape having only spent $50 but could have easily added two zeros to that sum. Gorgeous and ingenious furnishings, office supplies, lighting, tabletop, kitchen and bath items. All high-quality and appropriately expensive.
This is the anti-Ikea.

Oh, how I love thee!
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous EVERYTHING.
This is THE place to register, folks. It's pricier than your average Crate and Barrel, but this is the stuff you will love for a lifetime.
Holy crap! The first time I walked into the Conran Shop I felt like I was born again. I now pray to my stemware and silver lined porcelain bowls as a symbol of respect to my new god, Terence Conran. Although the showroom changes regularly, you can almost guarantee that the upstairs will appear to be light and airy, often showcasing some amazing one-of-a-kind designer piece and a plethora of just-released pieces from boatloads of amazing designers from all over the world.
Basically what I'm trying to say is that-from a design fanatic's perspective-the Conran Shop has one of the best buying departments in the entire world.
And I haven't even talked about the bottom floor! Like, WHAPOW. I mean these people are insane. They have everything I could ever want, regardless of price. I got a cheap glass for $4, and I got a champagne flute for $64. The furniture selection is amazing too! It can get a bit claustrophobic at times, as they do pack everything imaginable into a windowless room, but just pop a xanax and do your thing. I guarantee you won't be disappointed!
Who would have expected Britain's famed design guru and restaurateur to set up shop in a 22,500 square-foot space underneath the 59th Street Bridge? The chic retail emporium - think Crate & Barrel for urban hipsters or IKEA with better quality and much higher prices - is located in Bridgemarket, the long closed-off space built into the Manhattan-side base of the East River connector to Queens. You'll find everything from ultra-modern sofas, tables, and light fixtures in lightweight materials with lots of sleek contemporary lines, to design classics like Eames chairs and Isamu Noguchi rice-paper lamps, to the most attractive kitchen accessories you've ever seen. The shop also boasts one of the biggest and best restaurants in town, the three-hundred-plus seat, cathedral-like Guastavino's.

If you want to purchase me, then this is my point of sale.
The Conran Shop puts many of my favorite design houses under one roof and they do it with style. Pablo table lamps, Alessi cookware and Missoni Bath are a few of the treasures you can expect to find. The collection leans a bit towards the modern concept sector in the design world, which is right up my alley.
If nothing else, come here for inspiration. As I am always looking for a good deal, I often come here to find and feel what I like and then purchase the product online (from CA based companies) for a cheaper price as I avoid NY sales tax and a NYC markup. Yeah, I can be cheap, get over it.
I was disheartened to learn they stopped carrying VIKING cookware, but I think I'll manage to pick up the pieces.
A bit sterile and out of the way: bought zero last time I was there.
