Had a mediocre experience at The Tavern a couple weekends ago.  A fly flew into my beer after my second sip and they charged me for a replacement.  Waitress was almost non-existent during the meal/game.  The bathroom door in the men's room didn't close correctly, so I was subjected to viewing some guy who was relieving himself.

The meat on this burger that came out was absurdly red and we had to send it back (luckily they were okay with throwing it on the grill for a little longer).

The seating was crazy crowded - they packed us in like sardines and people were constantly running in front of the TVs.

Sound system was awful - couldn't make out what they were saying and the mini-tvs were soo small, you could barely make out what was going on in the games....starting to reconsider my love for the Tavern.

There is one thing on the tavern menu that gets my mouth watering every time... the white wings! Chicken wrapped around a jalapeno, wrapped in bacon, dipped in wing sauce, served  with ranch. I think I've had dreams of diving into this food a la bouncy ball thing at a kids place.

They get some stars for that but the extra star is for being totally awesome when my parental units were in town. My mom has back problems and couldn't make it up the stairs to the open section. The upstairs waitress came down and waited on us downstairs. And the service was actually better than other places where i'm actually IN the open section.

I supose I have a couple of things to whine about, but they all seemed to right themselves....
Everything I touched in the bathroom fell apart (but when the soap dispenser fell on me, I just used the hand sanitizer they had right next to it),
There were no locks on the doors (but there are Always gals in the ladies room, so you can assume someones in there and  just wait until someone came out).
We sat behind the pathway to the entrance/exit so people were always walking in front of us (our fault for poor table selection),
A fly flew into my friends beer and we watched him die (disgusting, but the waitress brought us a new one),
My hamburger meat was so rare I swear it moved (server took it back to the kitchen and cooked it some more)
The Miller girls were a little stingy with the free hats (again, our fault for not drinking Miller, and those of us who were, didn't know the extensive trivia. Besides, later they brought him a free beer for "trying so hard")
It was pretty crowded (but then again, it was college game day, duh, and made for a pretty loud adn fun crowd)

On the plus side...i love all the windows, it was pouring outside and fun to watch, and it doesnt make you feel like you are holed up in a cave. The fries were thick cut (almost like potato wedges really) and well seasoned - yum. Particularly dipped in the queso.  Butt loads of cheese on my california burger and plenty of avocado. The Three Olives girls were there offering $2 bubble gum shots all day. We got there only an hour before game time (UT game) and were able to seat all 6 of us. Diverse crowd, good people watching. Lots of TVs, all the games, and cold beer. Not bad. Not bad at all.

The Tavern..... w/a name like this I somewhat expected it to be a bit more Celtic.... but oh'well.  Anyhow... some friends n'I went here to watch the Yankees vs Phillies & for a sports bar I must say I was somewhat disappointed.  Granted there really weren't that many people here which I guess was a plus (it was a baseball game after all & not a UT game event) but what would not make this a favorite of mine to watch a sporting event?   the TV's, not enough of them & the ones that are here are not big enough, well at least for me.   This place is more of a Pub than a Sports Bar.  Don't get me wrong, this is/would be a good place to meet & hang out w/friends as the staff was really friendly & their rates are fair, I will definitely have to come back & try the White Wings but if I'm looking to watch a sporting event, this will not be one of my top picks.

Last year I rated these guys 5 stars and said it was a good place to catch a game especially if you are not from Texas.

In the past year however my opinion has dropped repeatedly.  Watching out of state games is hard when they don't purchase the ESPN FULL COURT PACKAGE because it is to expensive (Go to Third Base if you want to watch a game not involving the Longhorns).   The service has gotten bad as well.  On separate occasions with separate people the wait staff and bar staff were rude.  Once we tried to grab some food late at night.  We went upstairs and they told us to order into a speaker.  We decided to head downstairs where they then said they would not serve us.  They were then rude about everything.  This wasn't the first time the staff was rude.

They serve bar food. The same stuff you can get at any pub.  I suggest that if you are looking for a game and a bite to eat head over to Third Base.  They serve the same food and will have the game you want.  Also their bartenders and wait staff aren't rude about everything.

I haven't been here since football season. In fact, I don't go to any sports bars outside of football season. In the times I have gone, I certainly never had problems with the service.  I always go outside on the porch, since my buddies smoke, and the weather has never been a problem due to their heaters.

The food has always been good, the beer selection isn't great, but I can do with shiners. The TVs are lined up in a sensible way. There's not much more one can ask for in a sports bar.

Oh wait. Parking and more space would be nice. If the porch were just a little bit bigger and the parking lot could accomodate a couple more vehicles... If you're going to a big event, get there early-because this place fills up fast.

I dont understand how a sports bar can have such cruddy service.  I waited 2  hours once for chicken fingers, and the waiter was incredibly apologetic and the manager came over and chewed me out, nice job manager, chew me out for your restaurant not being able to keep up with orders, because clearly thats my fault.

At any rate, i guess its the cool place to go, so go ahead be cool, and go sit there and wait for a few hours for some crappy sports bar food, but dont ask me to join you.

I agree with everyone that the service is quite poor. I use to go to The Tavern every Tuesday/Thursday and grab a couple pitchers. I got to know the servers and such. After a couple of months it all changed. Started taking forever to get the check, never brought fresh chilled glasses with each pitcher (mmm frosty mugs), just depressing. The food is nothing special. The TV's are rather annoying. I love to catch sports center when I get home, but division II college basketball (or insert whatever sport you loathe) blaring... ugh.

The best part of the whole place is its outside seating. In the 'winter' they turn on the heaters which is nice, especially if there are less loud patrons than normal.

There are better places to go to eat, drink, and experience non-lcd hell. Okay if you want to waste time and have a few with your buddies though.

Went there last night with a friend. Never been there before but I knew I was going to like the place because when I was walking up to the door there was a sign right above it that read" OU Sucks." Good omen for me because I can't stand OU.

Anyway the waitress was very friendly and responsive to our needs and when we had no idea what to order and asked what the special was her response was pretty basic. Roast Beef Sandwich. Yes it was.

We instead concentrated on the Burgers. I was told that I needed more veggies in my diet so I ordered the California that had lettuce, tomato, sprouts and avocado. I like having a mini salad on my burger, makes me feel like I have done something good for myself. It was awesome. The bun was like from a bakery all buttery and sweet and the meat was fab. I said that I thought Casino El Camino was a good burger, well you can count The Tavern in that mix. I don't really remember what my friend had (we were talking about his up and coming trip to Peru and how he was going to eat funky for two weeks.)

All in all good staff, good place for Monday Night Football (sorry to those people that I yelled at for getting in my way, but it was the end of the second half and Cleveland had just intercepted in the end zone and was in the process of trying to run it back and I missed it.) The prices were reasonable and I did not have to wait 30-40 minutes to get my burger!

Check it out for game day and in the spring they have a pretty neat patio!

Happy to say that this place has returned to most of its former glory after a summer 09 of doldrums and shortened hours.  Thank god for the return of Football season and longer Tavern hours.  The wait staff seems back in form after being missing in action over this past summer.  Love the staff!  Still Love the Southern Fried Chicken Salad (get extra pickles) and the Tavern Burger. This is one of my standard lunch places over the last 5 years.

"In the Tavern, you're abandoned
Waiting for your beer and wine
I'm no minor, This adult diner
And you're wasting my damn time."

Pool tables upstairs were decent and uncrowded and they had a good selection of tunes on the jukebox--their saving graces for the day that kept this outing from being a totally one-star experience and complete disaster.

Service I found to be below yuppie bar levels downstairs or upstairs with no appreciable customers on a weekend afternoon.  HINT: Dude--don't keep restocking the bar for another 10 minutes before you get me the freaking beer I ordered!

And, no, I didn't get the world-famous TB (Tavern Burger).  But for $10.99, I honesty felt their chicken fried steak should be a significant improvement upon a Banquet frozen dinner stuffed into a food nuker.  Once again, I could sing several verses of "Old Folks At Home" waiting for service and meals to appear.  This is not the place to go if you're in a hurry, or even if you are within ten years of your mortality index.

I think management ought to provide all the bartenders and waitstaff gimme hats to wear that say "Air Conditioned".  After all, a word to the wise is usually sufficient.

Basic. Bar. Food.

Husband and I went there between appointments and had some grub. Nothing special, nothing incredibly disgusting. Just your basic bar food. Good waitress and bus staff.

No major complaints, but it's not the place to go for a meal to knock your socks. Nothing. Special. At. All.

The Tavern is definitely one of the better sports bars in Austin, if not the best.  The atmosphere is excellent.  It has character.  It has wooden tables that are all carved up.  It wasn't built yesterday, people have been watching football here for decades.

As far as food goes, the burgers and fries are great.  The wraps I've had are too saucy.  Wings and queso decent.

The only con is there are not as many large flat screen TVs here when compared to newer sports bars.  Still, I think the food and atmosphere make up for it.

You know, I will never understand why folks want to mess with something that seemed to be working. I certainly don't know if they were making any money, and perhaps this is why the change occurred, but I went in today for lunch, and low and behold the menu was completely different. Gone were the great wraps and somewhat healthy fair, and back to burgers and stuff. I got the grilled chicken sandwich. Came with a loaf of bread, soggy fries, two well preserved tomato's and very fresh cut up lettuce.. WTF... it was completely meh. I want my wraps back, I want to sit by my little TV at the bar and watch footie.. which is now broken.... Hali, the barkeep was the bright spark in today's munching.. she was very attentive and took care of me well. I believe this is the beginning of the end.... bummer used to be a great place...

When I first moved to Austin, I found out about this place due to my alumni club meeting here to watch the games.  I loved it, absolutely loved it for 2 years.  Then things started to go sour.  So this review takes into account 4 years of attending this institution (and my thoughts as I sit here now surrounded by TV's)

The number and quality of TV's is phenomenal.  You can usually get any game you want (not necessarily with sound) on at least one TV.  If you get there early enough and there are no major Texas teams playing, you can watch your favorite team with sound.  You do have to remind them that hockey is in fact a sport (and they don't have any soccer channels.

Their burgers used to be quite tasty, but lately they don't taste any better than any other burger joint.  I have tried wraps and chicken sandwiches in the past and they have been consistently sub-par.

The service used to be great, but 3 out of the last 4 times it has been terrible.  I once had to sit and wait 15 minutes to order a drink because the server was too busy hanging out with her boyfriend.  Today, the service was great, but it also was not very crowded.  Drink prices have always been decent with good specials.

WIFI doesn't seem to work today, but this is the only time I have ever tried to use it.  Luckily I can pick up Austin Java across the street.  I used to love this place, but now you will only find me here 2-3X/yr.

The sign says "Air Condioned" and it's not just being quaint.  Yes, it really is that old.  My friend's parents met there and that was something like 60 years ago.  They sure like to turn up the TV volume so it's like a sports bar for the hard of hearing.  There's also a balcony upstairs, which is quieter.  They have good food and appetizers and the menu is pretty extensive.  I've been warned that the white wings are risky, but I've always enjoyed the food.  Pretty good beer selection.  The surrounding shopping center has different owners so parking is tricky.  You can park across the street, but not in the adjacent lot, except directly behind it and then only after 7.   If you don't despair from parking confusion you will probably enjoy it.

Edit: on the most recent return trip the food was good, the noise level was fine and the service was absolutely terrible.  It's hit and miss.

Oh Tavern, what they done to ye?
I used to love to come here when I first moved to Austin. I adore the building and the kick-a*s sign outside reminding me of days gone by, when "Air Conditioned" wasn't that common in Texas. I've had some great conversations at your bar, and some good pub grub, too.
Went in Saturday, Jan 3 and was horrified by (a) the hideously bright lights in the downstairs bar area and (b) the screaming football noises coming out of myriad flat-screen tv's that didn't even have the saving grace of a lovely HD picture.  My Sig-Other and I shared a cheeseburger, thinking it would be of normal pub size (big) and were a bit disappointed that it was kinda small, but it tasted just fine.  The fries were uber-salty so I really couldn't enjoy them.
On the plus side, our bartender was awesome. She took great care of us, making sure our lil spot at the bar was always clean, ne'er a dirty plate or empty glass in sight.  And the Guinness was perfect, which is a huge plus in my book.
Too bad the tv noise and too-bright lights have messed up an old Austin institution. There are so many other pubs to choose from here, I doubt I'll be back.

I should probably preface my review with the acknowledgment of two things:
1. I've never been to Tavern to watch a sports game of any kind. I prefer to do that at home or other places around town.
2. I've never eaten anything at Tavern with the exception of the mini corn dogs, which I don't think are substantial enough to warrant food commentary.

Basically, I've been to Tavern for late night drinks when it is probably a bit slower than other times. What I can say is that the bartenders are both extremely attentive and nice. They're always quick to notice when drinks are near-empty and offer refills (depending on how slow it is they may even see you on the patio through the window). Drink prices aren't too bad either and there's a decent variety on tap (Guiness on tap always makes me a little happy).

On atmosphere, I think everyone has covered it. It's been around forever, is a little quaint but in a good way, and there are some cool pictures on the wall if you get bored/drunk enough to look at them. Also, there's a pool table upstairs, which is a plus in my book. The tvs are smaller but there are some on the patio which is nice for all the smokers. I also like that it's close to downtown but away from the to-do of 6th-4th, which means parking isn't problem.

No.
This place used to be okay but has gone to garbage.  The service is awful awful awful - unless you have one of two servers who have been there forever but, unfortunately, cannot duplicate themselves and serve everyone at once.
Sure it has lots of tvs but it also has a lot of jerks who get drunk and bump into you.  And then i say, "Hey, watch it."  And the jerk acts jerky.  And my boyfriend says, "So you're proud of being a dick?" To which jerk replies, "I have a dick."
Way to go jerk face.
Not really the Tavern's fault for that but it was the bad icing on a gross cake.

Love that the sign says Air Conditioned - we are in Texas after all.
Here is what I found out last night ordering off the "veggie" sides options - I got the spinach caserole and then found out it has a good amount of bacon in it, since I don't eat bacon I sent it back and got the coleslaw. Then found out that has chicken in it! But I'm ok eating the bird, so I ate it anyway.  I think they should mark the sneaky sides that have meat on their menu.

We like it b'c we can walk from our friend's house for some quick food and a cold beer. The girl who served us was very nice.

This place is waaaay better than Ringers to watch a game. It's cheaper, homier, the food is really good, and I don't feel like a douchebag going there.

The place has a really cool vibe. It's like someone took some random bar in Germany, dropped it on the corner of Lamar, stuck like fifty TVs in it, and renamed it the Tavern.

Oh and they have the best potato chips I've ever had.

In the words of Randy Jackson, "this one was just alright for me, dog."

I've been to the Tavern several times through the years, often when the highlighted air conditioning was in full bloom, and when the sports adorned the flat screens.  This bar has always struck me as much for its neighborhood staying power as anything else:  the food I've found perfectly appropriate to expectation, the staff has been helpful, and I do appreciate the occasional place to park near by.  Not a transcendent experience, but a nice place to kick up your heels and watch a ballgame.

And that's got to count for something.  Paula?

I'm a burger snob because my guy is the Grill Master. When I try places with reviews like "Austin's best burgers" it's usually a huge let down. So when the GM brought me to the Tavern for the burgers, I had very high expectations. They were pretty good. The bun was soft and tasty, the meat was thick and cooked the way I asked, the toppings were good.

I've had a few other dished that were pretty good for bar food. Holy hell the white wings. I'm not a health nut but those things can't be good for anyone. (taste good though)

I have to agree with Jeremy w. on this one, It's not what it used to be.
My last visit I was almost too distracted by the gnats flying around my head to notice that my burger was greasy and my glass was always empty.

There's really nothing to complain about when it comes to The Tavern. According to history, this corner bar (12th & Lamar) was born in 1916, long before the winding, trafficky, pain-in-the-ass gravel and untimed lights of Lamar Boulevard existed. (Conceptualizing a time when Austin was without a Lamar excites me.)

Anyway, aside from the interesting exterior, Tavern is a fairly typical sports bar. Long before I ventured inside, I would drive by and see their infamous sign and wonder why the heck they felt the need to create signage where the advertising for A/C is nearly as prominent as the name of the joint. (Is there something I'm missing here?)

The Tavern is friendly and warm, with a lively dinge that's best for taking in sporting events. Their multiple screens allow for easy viewing (sans the stiff neck). The two-story tavern boasts a patio as well.

Although I previously noted the typicality of the watering hole, there are a few pros to convince you to stop by. I would argue that the bar is advantageous for three main reasons (debatable, of course...)

1) Tavern has their own parking lot. I repeat. A mid-town bar with a parking lot.
2) Tavern has kick-ass weekly and happy hour specials. $3 house wines, $3 margaritas,  $3 well drinks, 25 cent buffalo wings, 35 cent potato skins...you get the picture.
3) Tavern has a cool location. They say it best when they boast, "You're never too far from 12th & Lamar." Too true.

Tavern is your ticket to the game.

The Tavern is a great place to meet friends, watch sports, drink beer, and grab a bite to eat.  In a town full of places of which can be said the same, the Tavern stands out due to it's cozy feel, long history, fantastic location, and abundance of parking.

I usually go during basketball season since it's a bit less crowded then on Sat/Sun during football season.  The wait staff is friendly and fairly attentive, and you're never more than a few minutes from having a full beer in front of you.

The food is standard "pub fare", which is to say you aren't likely to find Wolfgang Puck whipping up a lobster bisque in the back.  That said, the food is pretty good and unless you're just begging for it, a trip to the Tavern won't break the bank.

Occasionally the Tavern is a bit too crowded, but then again, sometimes that's the best way to watch sports and hang out with friends.

Just went there for lunch today with co-workers (who were part of remembering the "good old days" of the place) and I'm happy to say my first visit a few weeks ago wasn't a fluke!  We sat downstairs where a few customers were being attended to and the crowd steadily grew.  Our party of five was promptly attended to by our server Kate.  Burgers of both varieties- meat and veggie- were ordered along with some corn nuggets.  Mmmmmmmm corn nuggets!  Also tried the fries and chips which are also worth eating.  Food was brought to us hot and timely.  Prices are very reasonable ($6.95 for a burger) and had no problem parking in their lot across the street .  So while I can't report on how it is late night I can say The Tavern is doing a great job during lunch and dinner time!

Full Disclosure:  My parents are part owners.

The Tavern has become my home away from home.  There's not much I can say that won't sound like cheap self-promotion, so I'll just say a few things.  The owners have worked very hard to keep The Tavern an Austin kind of place.  With the likes of Starbucks taking over prime real estate downtown, I love those places that keep things local.  The Tavern is as original as they come.  Not much has changed about the structure since 1916.  The original wood carvings can still be seen along the roofline of the old building.

Come enjoy a meal and a beverage, and experience this landmark for yourself.  If there is anything that can be done to improve the place, please let the managers know.  And be sure to request any game you want.  All 55 TV's can be controlled by a hand-held PDA.

(The Tex-Mex burger is my go-to lunch time meal)

If you haven't had the Mexican white wings here, you are seriously missing out. Chicken stuffed with a pepper, then wrapped in bacon and smothered in their tasty wing sauce. Their regular wings aren't bad either. In fact, they could give  Casino el Camino a run for their money.

I love coming here with friends to watch sports (especially March Madness) because it does feel very neighborhood-y to me. Although, it can get crowded when there is a popular game on. I suggest grabbing a table on their upstairs balcony.

Check out their late night food specials (I think they start at 7 p.m.):
Monday $.30 Buffalo Wings
Tuesday $.40 Potato Skins
Wed. $1.25 Pork Wings
Thurs. $.40 White Wings!!!

Went for lunch and had a burger, which were recommended.  You know, the burger was a little cold, which was surprising because it came out so quickly.  Didn't care for the flat-cut french fries, either.  They lend themselves to sogginess, as these did.

I can't help thinking I'd be much happier if I could have taken advantage of their great happy hour specials - and once I do, perhaps I'll be able to come back here and bump the rating up a bit.  But this time, the Tavern fell short of 4 stars.

I'm not really into sports, so the venue my husband and his friends choose to watch whever event they're watching is a dealbreaker for me if it's not good.  I only go if they're going somewhere good.

The Tavern is one of those places where I'm in.  Their outdoor balconies overlooking Lamar are awesome.  The green/yellow/red pattern of the traffic light filters through the tree leaves and makes for excellent atmosphere.  They have good beer and appetizer specials, and good people-watching.

Until I saw Nick M.'s review, this jewel had slipped my mind.  That is what happens when you move out of Austin...the great places slowly exit your consciousness.  Don't ever move...I regret it everyday.  Anyway, I love the Tavern.  It is always a reliable place to grab decent bar grub and pitchers of brew ha ha.  We frequented the Tavern more times than I can count throughout my tenure in Austin, even taking my parents in for good grub and the Austin feel.

When I was in law school, The Tavern briefly shut down and some good people (I take it, like Nick M.'s parents) fought the big bad wolf and reopened this Austin institution.  Whew, it was scary.  They added a patio a few years back.  Although it is kind of small, it is a good addition.  The bartenders are always kind and I will make it a point to get back there next time I am in Austin.

Great burgers. The buns are sweet...literally.  Kind of small, parking is bad.  Prices were ok.  Just way too many other good places to eat in Austin.

Oh GOD. This place sucks.

Burgers undercooked and weird servers, pissed. I leave.

I'll try it again...they don't know how to make drinks, asking me how to make a YEP margarita, and then a Manhattan...I leave.

Again, I'm here (due to the good parking) being dissed by the bartender, for what, not sure.

Exhaust from Lamar + idiotic staff = god help me....understand...then....don't care...get me out of here

ps..what did i contract in here?

Waitress: A+
Just a public thank you to the waitress at the Tavern. You felt my pain! You just knew there was no way I could enjoy a meal with the sensory overload of Fahrenheit 451 television screens, neon signs, and red checkered table clothes. Thank you for giving me very good directions to the Galaxy Cafe and for not charging me for the coffee I ordered. May you have a bright future in sales, personnel, social work, psychology...any field where you have to use intuition to interact with human beings.

NO HD, much, much smaller menu, Expensive beer and oh yeah, did I mention NO HD. I have been going to The Tavern since 1997. I even worked there for 4 years while in school. Loved this place with all my heart. The food has always been really good so I always tolerated the expensive beer prices. $4 for a Shiner Bock, $3.75 for a Bud Light...really people, its Bud Light.
We went for NFL playoffs game last night and guess what? Plenty of TVs but NO HD. I don't really know any other Sportsbars that do not have HD. My male companions were really disappointed so we decided to eat and leave. I ordered my favorite item (which I was happy to see was still on the menu) a cheese burger no fries sub onion rings. There was an extra charge of like $1.25 which was fine by me. The burger comes and it seriously is like half the size it used to be with 5 (yes, count them...5) onion rings. I look over at my friends plate who got fries and there is a heaping mound of them on his plate. I'm not sure what the deal was with that. My burger and rings came out to about $10 so it was somewhat disappointing to not have the quality we were used to.
We ate then went to Lavaca Street. They have lots of TVs and plenty of HD to go round oh yeah, and domestic beer is priced like domestic beer should be priced. There's a kitchen that is joined to Lavaca that seems to have good food at reasonable prices. This might just become our new favorite game place.
Tavern, you disappointed some long time fans. We are sad to say it but, there will be no more Tavern for us and from what I read below, others feel the same way. What a shame. What a shame.
NOT recommended. (In case you couldn't tell)

I only wish I knew about The Tavern sooner.  Great atmosphere, I always bypass the hostess and prefer to sit upstairs.  I know that when people say everything on the menu is great, there is a lot of skepticism.  But there is a reason it was voted "best turnaround of a menu" by the Austin Chronicle.

White Wings Rock
Burgers Rock
BBQ Pork Wing Sandwich Rock
Cobb Salad Rock
Cold Beer Rock

It is my favorite place to watch a game I never intended on watching!

I'm not really the kind of girl who goes out to a bar to watch sports, so I can't really comment on that aspect of the Tavern's personality.

I am, however, the kind of girl who likes a good burger from time to time.  And the Tavern's does not disappoint.

Good, HUGE burgers, with a variety of toppings to choose from.  Plus, for a slight upcharge, you can have their fried onion & jalapeno strips instead of the usual fries.  Since I try to watch my carbs (sort of), I like to get these because they are minutely less carblicious than french fries.  Plus - they're yummy.

I've had a few of their other entrees, and they were OK.  Their salads are HUGE, but just not that exciting in terms of ingredients.  My recollection is that most of them are made on lettuce of some kind, and I'm a mixed green salad girl.  I've also tried their chicken fingers in buffalo sauce, and there was WAY too much buffalo sauce on them; I had to scrape some of it off.

As others have mentioned - the Tavern has its own parking lot - a rare luxury for downtown restaurants.

Good burgers, decent beer selection (including Warsteiner) good service.  Got a few pool tables upstairs and lots of parking.  Worth checking out but its not really close to anything else.  Seems more like an adult bar than a college hangout.  Try the Tavern Burger, its good.

So last week a couple of us put out feelers to see if anyone was interested in doing happy hour on Friday. My initial suggestion was the Draught House, but several people wanted something other than beer ( I am SURROUNDED by Philistines), so we agreed on the Tavern. It's one of those places I've driven by a hundred times but have never stopped in (although the big "Air Conditioned" sign certainly caught my eye). Twelve people expressed interest, six showed up- par for the course at our company. Anyway, after happy hour pint of Newkie Brown for $3.50 and several other good beers on tap (Fireman's included). I 'd worked through lunch and was about to go into a zombie feeding frenzy (people were looking nervous, covering exposed flesh, etc.) so I had the Club sandwich, an excellent jaw dislocator piled with chicken and turkey (no brains) accompanied by what looked to be homemade chips. REALLY good. It was such a nice evening we sat outside upstairs and watched the sunset, all the while revelling in a haze of brown ale. I must return in future for one of their famous burgers.
