Had a very nice dinner here last week. As the previous review covered the space itself (an old Civil War era Hotel/Hospital) I'll just stick with our dinner. My fiancee is the sweet tea drinker in the family and she raved about it, one of the better ones she has had apparently. I took a sip and it tasted fine to me but I am far from an expert on tea.

    Appetizer:

Fried Green Tomatoes, Sweet Potato Fries and Hot Crab & Artichoke Dip with crispy tortilla chips $16

We both enjoyed the appetizer. There were 3 fried green tomatoes, an ample serving of sweet potato fries with homemade ranch and the artichoke dip and tortilla chips was great as well (also a good dip for the fries.) A large amount of crab in the dip and the tortilla chips were fresh fried tortillas, a bit oily but tasty nonetheless.

    Entree:

Crab & Shrimp Louise: our signature Maryland lump crab cake paired with gulf shrimp on a bed of angel hair pasta tossed in a light Creole garlic cream sauce $25

We asked to split the entree as neither of us were incredibly hungry. They happily split with no sharing fees, serving it in two large bowls. One had 3 large cajun seasoned shrimp (Texas Gulf shrimp according to the owner, who was also our server) and the other bowl had two shrimp. Both had a nice sized crab cake. The crab cake was on par with what I had in Baltimore earlier this year (almost all crab, very litter filler). The angel hair pasta was perfectly cooked and the cajun garlic cream sauce was light and spicy. We were pleasantly suprised to see it wasn't a heavy alfredo type sauce.

We both struggled to finish our large servings but I honestly couldn't stop myself.

Somehow we were convinced to try dessert anyway :) It helped that they offer small servings for only 2$ each of their full dessert menu. It isn't listed on their website or even on the menu at the restaurant but the owner offered it to us so we had to try them. I ordered the New Orleans Bread Pudding and my fiancee had the chocolate mousse. The hostess brought out the desserts and unfortunately set mine down akwardly and it landed on my lap. The owner saw it happen, they both apologized profusely, and brought me out a fresh serving quickly free of charge. Both were excellent desserts. And for only $2 well worth the price. The bread pudding was around 5 bites worth and the mousse maybe 6-7. Just the perfect amount.

We will both return many times I hope. Their brunch menu looked fantastic as well.

The restaurant is in a converted house.  Check out their website for the history.  It was constructed around the time of the Civil War and the structure (including the flooring) is pretty much the same.  The parking lot is about the size of your dining room, so be forewarned.  I guess most end up parking on the street or at the library.  The inside is quaintly decorated with small framed prints available for purchase.  The tables are dressed in white tablecloths and hold slender vases of fresh flowers.  They also have outside dining.  I found the inside to be on the drafty side, so if you get chilly easily, wear closed-toe shoes and take a sweater.  There were also flies buzzing in the dining area, although fortunately, none landed on our table.

I went for Saturday brunch.  As an appetizer, my guest and I ordered the "bread and pastries" basket, which turned out to be nothing but pastries.  We questioned the waitress about it, and she said that she didn't know why the word "bread" is even on the menu because it really is a serving of just pastries.  She was kind to return with a basket of 2 yummy rolls and butter.  The pastries looked like they came from Walmart (sorry!), so I didn't touch 'em.  For my entree, I had eggs, grits, and bacon.  The grits were the best I've ever had eating out.  They were cooked to perfection!  The eggs were good, but certainly no different than you'd find at the IHOP.  The bacon was on the thinly-sliced side, which is just the way I like it.

I finished off the meal with a creme brulee, one of my favorite desserts ever.  It was beautiful, but unfortunately, it made for the first in my lifetime of dining experiences that I really did not touch it.  It was too sweet; the sugary crust on top should have been all the sugar needed, but the custard underneath was syrupy.  Shivers!

Overall, the service was top notch.  My waitress was friendly and had excellent timing.  When she noticed that I barely touched my dessert, she quietly took it off the check.  There was no conversation.  Snap, crackle, pop, it was stricken from the record.  Sweet!
