This is probably the nicest mall in the area. It certainly is the newest, and has some of the most high end stores. But, that's not all you'll find at South Pointe. Terrific restaurants, an attractive outdoor area, and ample parking make this my mall of choice if I've got time to kill and don't mind an extra fifteen minutes on my drive.

Since South Pointe opened, the other area malls have had to step up their game, and rightly so. This mall is miles ahead of anything else in the area.

I'm not a fan of malls in general, but this is the best one in the Triangle and possibly the state.  Parking sucks, but sucks less than most other malls (Crabtree...).  The location is excellent, although it's proximity to my house is kind of a love/hate relationship.  Love it being close when I need to go there and hate it being close when I'm dealing with all the traffic that brings.  Nice selection of stores, good layout, extremely clean and excellent security.

Southpoint is the worst thing in the Triangle.  If you don't take issue with the its placement in the most geographically meaningless wasteland, then at least admit that the scary bronzed children all over the place creep you out.

This place has seemed like a nightmare theme park from the moment it opened.

The one good thing about it is the movie theater, which has great comfortable seats and good soundproofing between the theaters.

Streets at Southpoint is....a mall.

It's a very aesthetically pleasing mall, and it has a good selection of stores. But it carries with it the woes of any mall: it gets very crowded, parking is horrible on the weekends, prices are high, and many (not all!) of the stores are staffed with disinterested salespeople who have little desire to help.

Also, Southpoint seems to be especially bad when it comes to the kiosk vendors who want to "ask you a question" to try and sell you their hand cream or whatever they're shilling these days. On the plus side, it seems to be much less of a haven for loitering teens (minus the movie theater).

The sit-down restaurants are nice, but the food court is a little shoddy. If you're craving meaty, delicious, greasy goodness, Five Guys is pretty much the only worthwhile option in the court.

We have shopped at a lot of malls in the U.S. and agree with USA Today that Southpoint Mall is one of the top 10 malls in the country.

Despite the mixed reviews on Yelp regarding this clean modern mall, we enjoy the variety of popular stores, sunlight-abundant architecture and design, and large children playing area.

If you know when to shop -- that is post season sales -- then one can find good bargains.

I am Yuppie!  Hear me roar!

Southpoint is a monster of a mall, definitely the largest and nicest in the area.  There are the requisite department stores, of course, and more women's clothing and shoe stores than I care to count.  The food is either very pricey or downright plebeian, with very little in between (with a couple notable exceptions).

The outside portion of the mall (the Streets) actually makes a good showing of a different shopping experience, and there are some worthwhile stores (Barnes & Noble topping the list).  They even have regular buskers and other street performers, which is a really nice touch.  Also, the movie theatre is the go-to theatre for the area, with stadium seating and tons of screens.

Downsides: you have to pay mall prices.  There are some pretty intense crowds sometimes, especially on weekends.

Be sure to check for student and military discounts when you're shopping, they are around.

I don't live in NC, but when I visited Raleigh last week, I happened to check this mall. Love the idea of having a roof - less/ glass roof so the mall looks so bright during the day. The stores there are pretty neat, but you prolly won't find as complete stores as the one in Crabtree Valley mall.

Love the varieties of food options in food counter. many asian food from chinese to japanese, westerns too from steakhouse to fast food.

and it's not very far away from RTP, or the airport

I should hate the mall for being a  big commercial development away from the city center.  Wouldn't it be cool if the mall were placed in downtown Durham?  To serve as an anchor for growth and development downtown that gets us out of our cars and gets us walking around!?!?

But, hey!  Who am I kidding?  I love going to the mall, getting a latte, and wondering around shopping and people watching.  Apple, B&N, CPK, and Nordstroms top my list of attractions.  The theatres are nice too.

I think that Southpoint is the best mall in the Triangle.

I love the outdoor mall environment when the weather is good and prefer indoor malls when the weather is not so great. This place offers both inddor and outdoor malls. The area is a great place to stroll around and enjoy the stores. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from and have a store for just about anyone. Becareful of crossing the streets. They look like pedestrian sidewalks but there are actual cars that drive through the open sections of the mall.

Big mall in a good location right off I-40 but the parking situation is horrible and not designed well ahead of time.  Even in this recession, you still drive around looking for parking.  The stores are fine and you have what you expect in a big mall.

Pretty good mall with most of the major stores you're looking for, plus a few fun "upscale" choices like Nordstrom, Sephora, and Coach. Some stores are inside and some are outside, so the layout's nice to walk around in. The restaurants are popular - most are nicer chains, like Maggiano's, Cheesecake Factory, and Firebirds, but if you're here on a weekend, be prepared to wait - the post-movie and post-shopping crowds can be pretty serious. The theater has lots of screens and is a clean, comfortable, up-to-date place to catch first-run movies - again, crowds are a big factor; opening nights for any big blockbusters are definitely going to be packed.   Probably one of the better malls in the Triangle area, right after Crabtree in Raleigh.

Yuppie malls are a life saver at 4 PM on December 24th... all the big box retailers in one convenient location.

Southpoint was built right around the time I moved to Chapel Hill, so I can't imagine what it was like to rely on University Mall, Crabtree, and Northgate instead. This mall is a combination of the best features of those malls, bringing together a nice blend of national retailers (both upscale and downmarket) and a few local businesses (Light Years, Lee's Tailors, etc.). The grounds are well-maintained and security is decent. It does get extremely busy on the weekends, when you'd be lucky to find a parking space within 100 yards of the mall. The movie theater is definitely the best in the area, with the crowds to prove it. The food court I think is lacking - it's the only place that I'd actually like to see more chains. There is a nice selection of decent sit-down restaurants, most of them chains. The atmosphere seems to be very family-oriented, which is a market that none of the other malls in the area seem to directly target. And if there's a large corporate retailer you don't see at the mall, be sure to check the brand new neighboring strip malls - the whole area is rapidly developing.

I heart Southpoint mall. It's spoiled me for other malls, like Crabtree in Raleigh and my hometown's Four Seasons. The architecture is brilliant -- it's designed to reflect buildings and warehouses in Durham's historic tobacco district. The inside is two levels. The store-fronts are all unique, meant to look like outdoor shop-faces, sometimes with brick or with peaked roofs and second-story windows. The ceiling is skylighted with archi-clouds floating aloft. It's still new and it draws out some of the best of Durham (unlike sister Durham mall, Northgate). There are some higher end stores like Nordstrom and Coach; plus the usual staples. The restaurants are mostly chains, but that doesn't hurt their popularity. Be prepared to wait to dine. The movie theater is also popular, so get tix in advance or come a bit early. Look for live music outside by the fountain on weekends, the juggling act or the balloon-man clown to entertain the kids, and special events like the big lighting of the tree ceremony before Christmas. Aside from the quasi-creepy statues of bronze kids surrounding the property, this place is awesome.

Clean and huge and staffed by competent salespeople, this mall honestly deserves 5 stars, compared to other malls.  I mean, shopping at malls probably deserves 1 star compared to other human activities, yadda yadda yadda.  But, if you're going to the mall, you're lucky if it's this one.
