One of my favorite Calvin and Hobbes strip is when Calvin is standing in a dark place with what looks like stars and he says "I'M SIGNIFICANT!...screamed the dust speck."

When I came here, all I could think of was the vibe exuded "I'M PRETENTIOUS!...screamed the wannabe."  Yet another fine example of TTH, not only from the clientele, but from the bartender as well.

Listen, honey, when your loser "actor" boyfriend knocks you up 6 months from now, you won't need that bitchy attitude to serve overpriced drinks half-heartedly anymore.  I realize that people like Dave Navarro lurk near the area where people get their wristbands to check idea, as well as what I'm sure are other Hollywood royalty, but just because you sling drinks in L.A., that does not give you the right to give me attitude.  I was nice to you, please have the courtesy of being nice back.

The good:

*The view- definitely a place to take out-of-towners such as myself.
*There are plenty of places to sit, even if you can't find one.  I also like the little pods with the beds.

The bad:
*The aforementioned attitudes
*The drink prices.  HOLY HELL.  $16 for 2 bottled beers?  I'd rather pay a modestly priced cover for the view than get bent over each time I buy a drink.

What it boils down to is that meh, I've experienced better, but the view makes it A-OK.

Thursday Night Experience:  No line, walked right in & made it to the rooftop before being directed back downstairs to retrieve a risk band.  No cover, just a risk band??? Whatever.  Once I made it to the rooftop I was VERY impressed.  The view is MAGNIFICENT.  Directly in the heart of downtown, you cant find a better spot for happy hour drinks or just a a chill night out with friends or co-workers.  Absolutely no problem finding a cozy place to sit.  We found a spot next to the fireplace.  Very relaxing, heat lamps spread throughout the exposed lounge area's.  Great crowd, not many half naked "Soooo LA" chick's running around & The Space Pod Water bed's are Super cute.  Drinks are great, and bartenders are very knowledgeable and fast.

Saturday Night Experience:  There was a bit of a line, but with out a very timely wait we were admitted after paying a $20 cover.  One thing I did notice Saturday was the Artsy/Slightly X-Rated video projected on the walls in the hotel at the Elevators and on the buildings on the rooftop.  Is this supposed to be sexy? or just creepy?  I think it's creepy.  Just slimy red lips sucking, and licking around in a clear slimy substance.  Reminded me of the Nickelodeon, Green Slime, but not as innocent.  YUCK.  I think this could be a bit traumatizing for a child staying in the hotel to see...  But then again, this is LA.  It was a bit crowded, but still no problems finding a cozy spot.  Still no "Sooo LA" chick's or poser's in sight "I think this place is a winner".  Very attractive and friendly crowd.  Bar service still up to par with fast and friendly service.

Overall, The Standard Rooftop Bar is a WINNER. Whenever I'm in the Downtown LA area, I will revisit this spot.  It's a must see.

Admittedly, I'd already been to a party for a few hours before hitting the Standard for a pre-PDC event.

The number one thing I remember from it? Being freezing. If you're going to a rooftop bar in November, keep in mind that even if it's warm at ground level, it will be cold. Take a coat.  I ended up borrowing one friends sweater, and another's coat before I actually felt comfortable.

Otherwise, it's a pretty standard bar. The drinks are strong (and they should be, for what you'll be paying for them).  One girl in our group had to take hers back to ask them to add more coke to it.

Overall though?  The view is gorgeous. This is the type of bar I'd go to just to see the view and have one drink, late at night, and admire being in LA.

Nine girls and three guys, and we still had trouble getting in?  Are you kidding me?  Those odds would get you into any club in vegas, why are we having a hard time getting onto a roof?

The bar is pretty cool, and I mean that literally.  Their heat lamps look like they're about to burst into flames, but they're distributed so widely apart that most of the roof remains pretty cold.  Although the view is pretty cool... it's still downtown LA, not New York.... so the $20 cover just isn't worth it.

We were pointed to the right direction to pay the cover to go to the Rooftop Bar by a bunch of British and Australian fellows leaving the hotel. They were intoxicated, and yelled something without the "H's", so I had a difficult time understanding them. Ironically, I wanted to ask them, "Do you speak English?"

I only take off one star because there's nothing standard about The Standard, such as the price of drinks. With a certain Asian lady bartender, I get a drink for $5.00, then the next moment it may be $12.00. If you're an Indian guy, you'll always get charged $12.00 no matter who serves you (sorry dudes, life's not fair in LA).

When you stand in line to pay the cover fee downstairs, some people will pay $20.00, and others will waltz in for free after making some vague connection with the people handing out wristbands and "giving dap." The only good thing is that they take credit card at the door for the normal people like me. However, you need to put at least 2 people (or $40.00) per credit card transaction. Be sure you have a friend, otherwise, you'll have to part with a Jackson.

The decor is something straight out of A Clockwork Orange or some other 1970s futuristic flick. I felt like ordering milk and sitting in one of those ink splat red chairs you see after going up the escalators to the elevator. Yes, for some reason there's an escalator that leads to an elevator. You'd think that at some point, you can just take an elevator straight up...but no, that would be too easy. And easy isn't the name of the game here.

Though the quality of the bitches here are higher than the places in Orange County, which I'm more used to, my former roommate said it best: "The women in LA are too much out of the average man's league. You either need to be a millionaire or a celebrity to realistically get any woman here. You have a better chance of getting with a chick from Orange County." I don't know what that says about the women in OC, but the only enjoyment you'll get here is if you're married and want to escape the monotony of seeing your significant other by looking at some pretty hot people.

There's a pool upstairs, but no one was using it. Perhaps because it was a cold autumn night on the 13th floor of a particular building. It only reinforced the whole Clockwork Orange scene where Alex shoves one of his droogs into the pool. There are also sex pods on the rooftop. I figure they are relics of a free love era.

A pair of binoculars appears on the corner of the rooftop. I figure you can use these to keep an eye on your car in the parking lot below...or to look at women standing at the other side of the bar without actually getting close. It could also be used to try and watch the old movie they project onto a neighboring building. Now if they could only turn up the sound on that and provide some popcorn...

A drunk pair of girls asked a friend of mine if he had a cigarette the night I went here. I figured they asked him first because he was Korean. I wondered whether or not smoking was actually legal in a bar in California, regardless of it being outdoors or not. I suppose they could have used a heat lamp to fire it up, but there's no real place to extinguish it when you're done. Unless, of course, you throw it into the pool.

Finally, there's a cramped up corner where people crowd together and stare at the US Bank Tower while grabbing private parts of the people around them. I thought that that could have been a dance floor, but I quickly rejected that notion once I saw that nobody in the crowd was actually dancing. Real dancing is like busting a move Michael Jackson-style.

After knowing what I know now, I will definitely come back here. But I will have to strategically set up the right situation with male-female ratios, time of arrival, and getting to know the Asian bartenders for future hookups.

The view is beautiful, nice place to take friends from out of town.
So, I recently went there for my friend's 30th birthday. It was a last minute thing, but turned out to be really COOL.

It was late in September and the night was chilly. It was near the low 60's, I'm sure especially with the wind chill factor. Brrrrr!!! there were no heat tamps there. I guess they didn't use them until later months in the winter.

There is plenty of seating, chair tables, little cute couch lounges, a fire place near the main bar. The swimming pool area features a film that is projected onto a white building. The place is cute, pretty mixed crowd, average $12 for mixed drinks, pretty good service, $20 admission fee. I wouldn't go back unless it's a special occasion. $20 for the view is pretty stiff though.

Pretty silly that they make you wear a wrist band the whole night too to stay on the rooftop.

Or you could stay downstairs, get the same drinks and the decor is just as cute (so much warmer) = )~

The most stunning rooftop bar in LA. Because of the hotel's location (heart of downtown), the view of the city at night is amazing. There isn't anything like this in SF. The only one that might compare is the rooftop bar at Medjool (in the Mission) :p Sadly, it is not quite of the same caliber.

If you are a guest of the hotel, the cover charge to the Rooftop Bar is waived (for two guests per room), and you get priority entrance to the lounge, even on a Friday/Saturday night. $20 cover is hefty, but it IS Los Angeles- home to beautiful people, snooty bar-hoppers, and very over-priced drinks. If you get a chance, go on a weekday when the lounge doesn't reach capacity (no cover).

We checked it out at about 6:30pm on a Sunday night. Caveat- we didn't try any drinks. Just walked right into the hotel and up to the roof. We weren't approached at all by staff and didn't have to pay a cover charge.

First of all, it's huge. There are comfortable perches and some tables as well. There are even beds, yes, beds. Tons of heat lamps. One guy was laying down, staring up at the hazy sky, and yelling "I love LA!"

There are a lot of fun stylistic additions. There is a garbage can with an open hungry hippo mouth. There are ivy garden sculptures of unicorns. There is one of those coin-operated binocular machines. On the side of the pool, there is a movie being projected onto the building next door (when I was there, it was the French movie 'Red Balloon).

The downstairs floor of the hotel is supercool too. There are so many cool stylistic touches. There is an old building directory that has been made into an art piece with word poems. The lobby and elevators are wacky retro. We peered into the hotel rooms as we walked to the rooftop and they looked very modern.

Make sure to visit the 2nd floor as long as you're there. We saw an art-movie being projected onto the wall, called "Green Caviar" (http://artsetoile.com/...), where basically this mouth is licking up green stuff. It was actually fun to watch. I found out later that Madonna actually uses this video on her tour during her candy shop song.

We were invited here by friends who live in LA for drinks.  Being native Chicagoans, they told us this was like having drinks at the Signature Lounge.  Touristy, but still pretty cool.  They were right.

We were so glad to have had the opportunity to come here and check out the city at night from this rooftop--cool seating arrangements, a gorgeous pool, beautiful people and way over-priced drinks. We were pretty happy to be tourists here and enjoy the warm temps, wine and scenery.

What more could you ask for on a night out on the town in LA?

I was blown away the first time I went here. Located at the heart of Downtown LA, it provides an amazing view of the city and captures the its spirit. Best to go on a weekday with some good company because it reaches capacity on the weekends. Oh, and did I mention no cover charge on weekdays?

Easily my favorite spot in LA.

Grading the Standard Rooftop is a very piece-meal experience. I love the way it's designed, but looks aren't everything...unless you're Scarlett Johansson.

Roof top view: 5 stars. Beautiful sky line and miles-high buildings that meet the stars up ahead. But why pay $20 bucks for a goddamn view?

Music: 3 stars. Mostly hip hop and pop. You know, the standard.

Pool: 3 stars. LOOKS really fun, but that's an illusion.  Unless you like being in a can of sardines. A lot of people were here over the summer and it was massively crowded. With all these hipsters in the pool I was worried about catching some hip STD.
But there is something enticing about swimming on a rooftop pool at night...

Drinks: 2.5 stars. Weak and expensive...ugh, don't bother.

Crowd: 2 stars. 90% HIPSTERS. Seriously, everywhere you turn.

Price: 1.5 stars. WAY over-priced! $20 cover PLUS $10-12 for drinks? No thank you. We brought our own booze since we were staying at the hotel, but I highly suggest pre-partying somewhere else.

It's an experience you should definitely try once. OR come here during the day. It's much cheaper and less crowded. Make sure to snatch a waterbed to complete your experience.

Ooh, Standard. I loved you last week, but you really fell from grace tonight!

My friend and I were walking back from a casual dinner and, as he was from out of town, I thought it would be nice to pop up and see the sunset from the rooftop bar, maybe have a nightcap. We stood at the outside greeters' station for a good 60 seconds while the man and woman working there ignored us and chatted with each other. Then finally when we got the woman's attention, she asked if we were guests of the hotel. When we informed her we weren't, she looked us up and down, and told us that there's a dress code and that we didn't fit it, as we were wearing sandals. She could have probably been snottier about it, but I'd have to really sit and think to figure out how.

Irritated, we left. Walked home. Changed. Returned. I really wanted him to see the view, though now we missed sunset and it was pretty much dark. Walked the six blocks BACK to The Standard to see that view. I asked my offended friend to ignore the treatment, and just come and enjoy the view, it's worth the extra 12 blocks of walking. He was uncertain. I told him that he'd change his mind once he saw the skyline from the rooftop.

We return. Show our ID's. And we hear "Forty dollars..." Umm... what? That's right, since she made us walk back and change, it was now past the cover-charge time, and she wanted $20 per person to get in.
Now, I'm no cheapskate. I'm a doctor, paid reasonably well. My friend is a Berkeley graduate who works at a successful law firm in San Jose. But really... you're going to have the ovaries (it was a female) to ask us for $40 in cover charges because NOW it's past the time because you wouldn't let me in wearing very nice white leather sandals? Seriously? And there's the snotty attitude again. She could have pissed me off worse, but I'm not sure how.

Guess where we DIDN'T go and spend our money tonight? Blew a few hundred in Hollywood instead. Much more than we would have paid for the cover charges, sure... but it stimulates the economy elsewhere, right? Guess the owners of the Standard aren't concerned about losing money, customers, and reputation. I'm one of the coordinators of the new faculty get-togethers. Fifty young doctors, researchers, academics. Was going to bring them here. Not now. Tonight was just inexcusable.

I love coming here duing the summer months after work.

Hanging out enjoying the sun, watching the sun set, and drinking until the later hours here has always been enjoyable. The view is amazing from the roof. It's a modern, chill lounge.

One of my favorite items on the menu is the Peanut Butter, Banana, Marshmallow sandwich that comes with a side of chocolate dipping sauce.

The only thing I dislike about this place is that there is no happy hour ever so to skip on paying $$$$ for booze, go to Daily Grill across the street to drink at happy hour prices and then head over to the Standard.

No shit this place is expensive and is going to have expensive drinks!!!

Hey thats the price you pay when you wanna kick it with Lindsay Lohan and snort blow like a hollywood kid.

Oh well!!!

When you do come here have some cash to make it rain.  Be amazed by the view.  Act like your in a video.  Feel like your on the VIP list.  Find the Playboy girls that dont live at the mansion.  Drink with the rich sugar daddys.  Drown in the abyss of eye candy.  Order a bottle, to make it cheaper yet flashier.  Do wear the latest runway threads.  Be sure to have a room to have lush sex and crush blow.  Do stay here at least once................

We went here two weeks ago, before it got windy and cold.  The night view absolutely gorgeous, very clear.  Everyone was thrilled.  Quite laid back, and no cover charge on Monday night.  Smooth dance tunes, it really couldn't have been a better night.  Views are not to be missed if you haven't been up here before.  During the summer, there are crazy pool parties on Sundays.  I would skip this place on the weekends, and come by on a week night.  No pressure on ordering drinks or food.  No restrictions on where we could sit, and not crowded.  We parked a few blocks away and walked over.

The first thing you should know about bar/lounges in LA or Hollywood is to not go there on a weekend.  The vibe is all wrong, and you'll handbag yourself on cover charges and parking fees.  Folks its LA, get over it!  If you don't want to deal with cover charges and valet, grab a drink in Riverside.

I've visited The Standard on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and never had to pay a cover.  I would like to see them adopt a happy hour there, but I'm not holding my breath.  It's definitely a great place to grab a drink with some friends or associates after a busy work day.  The decor and views definitely grab you.

Being a former resident of north Jersey, I'm accustomed to the rooftop bar concept.  At the risk of sounding redundant, The Standard is definitely the standard for rooftop bars in the downtown LA/Hollywood area.

Highly recommended, but not essential...

A friend had hyped the rooftop bar and, unfortunately, its cocktail waitresses created a really crappy experience.

Actually, I wanted to like them. I loved their stylish outfits that merged the looks of a 50s roller waitress with a glam fembot.

But what I didn't like how two of them stood chatting in the doorway and merely stared at us (and the rest of the patrons with dry glasses) for ten minutes after we sat down.

We were never served.

The View - well it all depends on what you are looking at, no?

FIVE stars - if you are looking at the urban vistas - the buildings all lit up around you are super cool.

probably at least FOUR stars if you are a man looking at the women coming here - boob jobs galore and definitely a scene, though don't pay attention to the faces cause that'll give away the age of some.

probably at least FOUR stars if you are a gay man here to gawk.  The boys definitely have a lot of style and sass.

only TWO stars if you are a straight woman looking at straight men.  Two kinds:  old business guys with pot bellies trying to be cool and "hip" and young guys wearing skinny pants with 80s-esque hair trying to be hip.  I don't care - nobody can pull of skinny pants unless you are a gay man with a rockin' body.  Everyone else needs to leave those at home.

The pods are cool if you are lucky enough to get one.  Another note to the wise: get there early if you want to actually make it to the bar and don't want to get stuck on the wrong side of the velvet rope.

Do not come here for the drinks - bad pours dumped in small pastic tumblers and overloaded with ice will run you twelve dollars.  Come here for the college party feel with a nifty urban environment.

Soak in the scene, but once you've had your fill head over to Seven Grand or any number of other places for real cocktails that will run you the same.  But at least now you can say you've been to the Standard and "man, it was wild..."

For all the hype that this place gets, it sure was a disappointment. I went there for a friend's birthday, and it was a lackluster evening at best.

First off, valet is $15 if you park in their lot. But the lot RIGHT NEXT TO IT is $10. wtf, right? Of course we just went 3 feet over and parked in the $10 lot. And there's a cover of $20.....for a bar. Yes I understand it's on the roof and yes it's supposed to be modern and it's in downtown LA but seriously? A bar? If girls don't have to pay to get into clubs, why would we  want to pay to get into a bar? If it wasn't because it was a friend's birthday, I would have left right there. Alas, since I was skipping out on all her other weekend festivities, I sucked it up and plunked down a $20. Then it was up the elevator and all they way to the rooftop...of a 12 story hotel. The rooftop idea is neat and innovative, and yes, the view was nice, but it wasn't magnificent. Almost all the surrounding buildings were twice the size.

To it's credit, the bar did have very modern decor/furniture, complete with mushroom shaped waterbeds and a large image of abstract music videos showing off of a wall. The look was very chic. If it was just a little taller it'd have a better view of the sky and not be dwarfed by it's surrounding buildings.

But onto other aspects of the place. The food was mediocre, nothing special, just your typical bar food. And the drinks cost an arm and a leg. The dance floor was about a 10'x10' area, super small. And the crowd was a bit on the older side, at least the night I went. Most seemed in their 40s, many with a full grey head of hair, or grey roots....not exactly my crowd. And it didn't help when they bring women that are 20 yrs their junior....it's just not my thing. I left that night very unimpressed and doubt that I will be returning there any time soon.

Don't really know what else to say about this place that hasn't already been said - but my thoughts: Amazing view, cool decor at the actual hotel... the Rooftop bar however is standard looking, pun intended.  Crowd is ghetto.  If they're making you pay cover, it's really not worth it...And I have a problem with those water bed pods.  I highly doubt they ever get cleaned, and rolling around in other people's germs is a little disturbing and unhygienic.

I recieved an invitation text to a friend's birthday party here. I had never been, but I heard about it being on a rooftop and having a swimming pool and waterbeds. So I gathered 7 of my friends and we all hopped into an SUV and headed over on a Monday night (no cover).

As you walk onto the roof, the view of the high rise buildings were breathtaking. After a bit of mingling and champagne, I found out one of my friends had jumped into the pool in his boxers.  One by one all of the friends I came with - jumped into the pool, and I was actually pulled in with my clothes and heels! I didn't mind. Secretly I wished for it to happen. The pool was warm! I heard the water was some kind of saline, so you can open your eyes with your contacts on. So much fun!

So when you go, don't forget to jump in the pool, hey you only live once!

By far one of the best views in Downtown LA, but with the view comes a pretty price and that pretty price is the people. Yuck. Seems like every trying-too-hard douchbaggy cheezoid takes up permanent residence on this here rooftop.

They also take themselves veeeerrrrrrryyyyy seriously here. How do I know this? Simple. I was here one night a few years ago on my birthday and like any gaggle of girls out on the town, the obligatory hey let's hold the camera above us so we all look slimmer and smile and laugh and ooowwwhhhh like we are having the best time in the world so we can rush home and upload it to Facebook shot must be taken. Well, God forbid you point the camera towards the building. If you make such a silly mistake, a big security guy will come over to you, yank the camera out of your hand and say, you can't take any pictures facing the building!

But why? Mr. Man with the curly swiggly wire in his ear?

Because people might steal the decor ideas.

....

Really?

Enough said.

a shadow of its former self... too many bridge+tunnel, of there were bridges and tunnels in LA.
I guess one would say too many 562s and 626s

As one of my first lounge experiences as a California resident, it was an eye-opener.  There were tons of people, the furniture was absurdly mod, and low and behold, who do I see sitting with friends but Denzel Washington.  I was seeing stars, rubbing elbows with [self-proclaimed] important people, and I felt like I finally made it!

I was having so much fun on the perfectly sized dance floor that I didn't even realize that the drinks were far too expensive, valet was also expensive seeing how it's downtown rather than Hollywood, and there were quite a few bachelor-type clueless tourists trying to live the good life in Los Angeles.

All in all, it was a far more than Standard evening.

One of the bestee's co-worker (awesome dude, btw)  was spinning some good ol' house today so we hit up the rooftop bar at The Standard for a lazy afternoon sippin' on moi's signature grey and cran, of course.

Been here couple of times but never in broad daylight and I have to say the weather was fantastic.

Had a little rummage with the front hostess but everything worked out fine.

Drinks were strong. Well.. at least mines was. =( Put it this way, there was hardly any cranberry, not that I'm complaining. $12-14 bucks a pop.

If you want any bar/ food service though.. Good luck.

Crowd was mixed. Plenty of tables and lounge chair to hang, chill, sleep, whatever the hell on. There's also a pool for you to dip in if you feel like doing the Pamela Anderson hair flip.

Parking downstairs, $7 self-park or $10 valet. Sorry, but after getting my camera stolen from valeting at another venue I choose "never" to valet if possible.

Oh and did I mention, what is up with the ugly, dark, and dingy smelly elevator. uuugghhh.

In the summer there's a pool party 2pm-9:30pm every Sunday. It's usually a different promotion company every weekend, so you have to check the Standard website to see who's promoting then get on that guestlist to get discount entry before 3pm. Otherwise entry will be $20.

On weekend nights they hit capacity fast and won't let anyone in once that happens. So get there early, 9:30PM or so. People line up before 10PM.

Damn, I'm back - Saturday afternoon at The Standard Rooftop.  I feel like a gardener, because all I see is hoes and tools.  How did I end up here again? Could it be the delicious Amstel Lite - I doubt it!  Could it be that I don't have a pool at my house - definitely a possiblity, but not likely - I wouldn't dare jump in THAT pool!  LOL  So, what is it?  Maybe it's the only place where my new Oliver People's sunglasses seem understated.  Perhaps it's the great view of the city?  Nah.  Hey, we've all rubber-necked a horrible car crash somewhere in L.A.  This is more frightening. =)

This place would make Sodom and Gomorrah blush.

AWFUL OMG... Came here Friday for drinks around 4pm.. While the view/setting is amazing the service was PITIFUL! First it was not even crowded at all yet the servers lacked any type of personality, speed or consideration for it.
When speaking to the server you could hear the gears barely moving in his head!  Took food ages to arrive.. as well as the drinks!

If your paycheck is dependant on service ....step it up a notch.. well 4 notches and smile and hustle! ugh

never to come here again

Standard Rooftop on a Sunday afternoon is a nice way to wind down a long party marathon.

PARKING: $7 in the underground lot.

ENTRANCE: Line situation is quite ridiculous.  If you know anyone who has a room at the Standard, you better butter 'em up because they don't wait in line nor pay cover. My advice is to go after 2PM when the line starts moving a bit faster.  Door chic is an ice queen (though really gorgeous), don't even think about greasing her because she ain't having it.  Get your wristband (in-n-outs) are ALWAYS nice! And climb up the escalator where you may get searched if you bring a big beach tote and hit the button for the rooftop in the elevator.

SETUP/DECOR: Big and spacious with ample tables/couches so you can lay back and relax.  There's towel service by the pool, but for some reason, the covered area near the pool STINKS (I don't know if it's the people (*ahem* you'll know what I mean if you've been here LOL) or the chlorine from the water.)  But it's quite funky.

DRINKS: are HELLA EXPENSIVE for a bar - $8 for a Stella.  Cheapest thing you could get is a can of Miller High Life (oh yeah real classy) for $4.  They do have pitchers of lemon ice water for all those people who need to hydrate after a long weekend!

The girls and I opted to pop some bottles (which I believe is a FAR better deal). Mimosas at the bar cost about $14 - but a bottle of house champagne and OJ will run you $50 with tax/tip. (don't ask me why, just order the damn thing!) The OJ is dinky though (see pics), so best make do of what you got!

SERVICE: Stinks - sorry it's true but it's Sunday, no biggie.

FOOD:  Terragon Chicken Salad Sandwich & Fries- $11 and The Grilled Cheese/Bacon & Fries - $10 (you can get a choice of bacon of ham).  The Terragon tasted a little bland but it wasn't too bad.  I hear the Grilled cheese was so good (Panini style of course) - but how can one really eff up grilled cheese?  I hear the sliders are pretty yummy!!

BATHROOM: Line is ridiculous.  If a guy's stall is open the bathroom attendant is usually pretty nice and will let the ladies slip in.    Tip, there are bathrooms downstairs in the lobby, use those, no line WHATSOEVER!

MUSIC: Down and dirty. Techno, minimal, tech house, etc  Just the way I like it.

CROWD: Mixed LA party crowd.  Quite clique-ish but once you get on the dance floor, everyone's pretty chill.

BONUS: Later int he day, the manager/owner came out with trays of FREE jello shots to pass out to everyone. Aww gyeah!!!

Bring your stunna shades, pool attire, wallet, and comfy shoes to get your dance on.

Been here lots of times for many occasions!  I like this place because theres a lot of room to walk around and you get a great view of downtown.  They have cute beds and couches to sit on and a cute little dance floor.  The DJ spins hip hop and top 40.  Drinks are pricey and they don't really make it that strong. boooo
Downside is you have to pay for parking downstairs and if you come on a weekend and you don't have a room or know anyone that has a room there good luck getting in!
If you can't get in on top and you're looking to lounge with some friends, chill at the bottom floor.  They have a pool table and some couches and a bar down there to lounge at.
I've stayed in a room here before they are really cute with a modern look to them but security is strict about going in and out of your room to the bar.
Been here during the week as well and I think it's way better if you're a local.

Creepola!

We were going to stop here after Remedy closed so damn early (12:30 a.m.!) but there was a fight going on. Some old man was chatting with us about it.

Next thing we knew, he followed us to Library Bar (where they had a line!) and then to my building. Creepy!

I'm never going to the Standard again. Too many creeps and what's up with drunk bastards fighting? Security couldn't even handle it because they tried to go in through the side door and it was locked and they didn't have a key.

The view is amazing, you feel completely alive and like you can fly when you look at the lit up sky scrapers all around you. If you could describe L.A., the feeling you get when you admire the view would describe it like no words can!.....the same can be said for the vibrating waterbed pods!

The drink prices are pretty reasonable, about $8 per beer and $15 or so per mixed drink. You can pay a lot more at places with a much less spectacular view and vibe. Haven't tried the food there.

The crowd is pretty cool and as long as you make an effort to look decent you can get in for free or skip the line.

The music quality varies depending on the DJ, but overall its pretty up to date European techno... which really goes with the vibe and the view.

I'm very partial to outdoor lounges/bars (mostly during the summer) and this one is no exception.

It's good to know that DTLA has some pretty cool places to go and since this was my first time there, it was pretty fun.

There was a $20 cover on a Saturday night but I got to enjoy the view so I don't mind too much. The crowd was pretty diverse but it does get pretty packed. I loved that the place had a lot of seating and that when it got too chilly, there was an abundance of heating lamps ready and available.

So all you need to enjoy everything this place has to offer is to go with some fun people :] I know I can see myself going back again some time.

I've been here a few times for various occations.  The place is pretty typical, has a typical downtown view, typical downtown crowd, and typical bar quality drinks and prices. The bar itself is pretty, it's got that those wonderful water beds and a nice small pool, and the view of down town skyline.  I think the view looks better during day light.

Yeah... the view is awesome, yeah, the drinks are expensive but not my kind of place. I didn't like the scene, the staff is rude, and the elevators smell like dirt.

Come with a crowd it's better that way, you'll have more fun, and you can carpool to save on the valet.

Sad. I remember this being so much better a couple of years ago. Now it's just... there. The view is still awesome, and the topiary is amusing, but the classier crowd has definitely moved on to better venues, and I think I'll be going with them.

Farewell, Standard Rooftop. We've have some incredible college memories, but I'm not sure I can stomach your increasingly unsavory crowd. Let's say goodbye while there's still something left.

The evolution of the "ah" at the Standard.

Oooo's and ahhh's: First, the view of downtown is quite ah-inspiring. It's so cool to feel like you're standing in the middle of LA. On a roof. It made me want to spin around in circles, arms out... Sound of Music style.

Aaaahhhahaha!: is the sound you will make when you succumb to the red pods with the squishy water bed in it. It's like a workout trying to maneuver yourself without flashing the world. Definitely ended up taking some inappropriate pictures involving legs flailing and unattractive angles. Can you say, de-tag?

AHHHHHHGGHH!: Okay, Standard, the bathroom sink is not the place to get creative with it. Groping around the mirror in attempt to figure out how to turn on the water took the efforts of like every girl in the bathroom. Finally, after locating the mystery knob under the mirror, we were then ambushed by some MANLY HANDS washin on up on the opposite side of the sink! Dude if girls always have to wait in line for the bathroom, we should at least get our own sink that is not connected to the men's restroom too. But yes, be warned, to prevent the shocked "omgg aaahhhhhhhgh there's a hand right there!!!"

So overall, the Standard is fun and has character! Minus the bathroom drama, it's prettyyy.....yah, I'm gonna do it... ahhhh-some!

Oh, and no cover Monday to Thursday. Ahhhhhhhh yeah.
