I've been staying at SVL, during ski and summer seasons, for 23 plus years. Maybe nostalgic childhood memories of pink bibs and family ski trips sway me, but i prefer to stay here.

Perfect ski in/out location for the cold months and close but remote from lake traffic for the warm months. Pool, outdoor jacuzzi, gym, grills out by the pool, ping pong, helpful and extremely nice staff, and free parking make this lodge 5 stars.

Our room (#255) has a new flat screen TV, queen bed & pull out couch (sleeps 4), large bath tub, and kitchenette to cook comfortably when you're too tired to go out plus a great mountain view. The redecorating they have done over the last two decades has made it feel more modern.

Love Squaw Valley Lodge!  The location is ideal!  It's the closest thing Squaw has to ski-on, ski-off, right next to Chamois and right above the muffin and coffee shop :)

We've stayed in all types of studios and in several different two bedroom configurations, which have all been great.

The facilities arent fancy or 5-star, but they are comfortable and fine for families or for adults-only.

Booking can be done easily online or on the phone.  They offer a good discount for booking winter stays, as long as you book before Halloween.  They also have a good cancellation policy.  Today I had to cancel a weekend and worked with Chris, who was very, very helpful.

    Overall, I highly recommend!

We stayed at Squaw Valley Lodge during our Christmas Vacation in Squaw Valley and they were awesome!  The rooms are a tiny bit dated but that's about the only negative thing I could say.  Everything else is all positive!  Every person on staff was happy, friendly, accommodating and treated Sophia (our 2nd grader) and us really well!  We had boxes shipped to the room and they were very nice about making sure we got them when they arrived.  They also brought the "extras" we asked for with no complaints as often as we needed. The staff was always eager to lend a helping hand or ask how we were doing.  Many guests left skis outside their rooms with no fear of them being stolen.  It was a very friendly place!  And best of all, it is a true ski-in ski-out lodge.  There was a lift right outside our door and we were within 5 minute walking distance to the other lifts.  Also, 5 minute walk from Olympic Village with good restaurants and shopping.  Their rates were very reasonable as well!  If you're going to Squaw - stay at the Squaw Valley Lodge!

Wifey and I revived an old P. family tradition (one that Wifey had never taken part in) and spent Christmas skiing.  The Lodge at Squaw Valley was our base of operations.  Initially, I chose it because I like the convenience of staying slope-side.  As it turns out, we used it for slope-side skiing exactly one of the three days we stayed there.

The Lodge is totally fine.  It has ample hot tub space for apres ski muscle relaxing (BTW, most doctors and trainers agree that anything more than 30 minutes is actually detrimental), including both indoor hot tubs (for sane people) and outdoor hot tubs (for those descended from Vikings).  It has reasonable parking space.  The staff are helpful and friendly.

But, the place is almost $300/night, and I basically expect all of these things from a glorified hotel room that costs that much.  And while the Lodge met my expectations in almost every category, it didn't exceed my expectations in any category.  Plus, if our bed really was a queen, it's the smallest queen I've ever seen.  Like some kind of Luxemborgian queen.  Or, more likely, a kween.  And I have a sneaking suspicion that the big door in the bathroom that was locked hid a washer/dryer, and locking away such an appliance so that skiers can't use it is not right.

Bottom line: next time, I'll stay someplace farther from the slope, closer to the bars, and let the shuttles that circulate constantly pick me up.  Or, I'll park the German Love Machine in one of the giant parking lots that all the local ski slopes are equipped with.

LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
im the kind of snowboarder that likes boardercross runs. nice long smooth jumps with plenty of room to carve. if you like this too, you'll love squaw.

all the bars, restaurants and lodge walkways give a nice ambiance that makes you wanna meet people. its so easy to meet new people there. i've been there three times, during the holiday weekends i might add. but still i've never had a problem with over crowded lifts and lines. even if there were a lot of people on the runs, it was so wide that it didn't matter. i wouldn't mind only coming to this lodge every time i come to lake tahoe/reno.

the best part, my family lives there, which means free rooms. my uncle owns a kick ass sushi restaurant, which means free food. and since my family is asian, whenever i visit, they give my lift ticket money! i love my family, squaw valley and snow!!!

    so who wants to go?!

I got a great deal on http://hotels.com for my 2nd stay at Squaw Valley Lodge. I didn't realize the condos were all individually owned but I've had great luck with the studio suites I've been in both times.

This time I was in #238, which was lovely. It had a super comfy L-shaped sofa, a shelf of books, stocked kitchenette (paper towels, pots, pans, utensils, etc.), dvd player, and a fan (which I discovered after being hot all night, oh well).

Olympic Village is DESERTED in May but it was very peaceful at the lodge (I think we saw about 5 other guests total the whole weekend). The whole area was quiet and peaceful actually, which was perfect for a nice relaxing weekend.

This place is T I R E D.  We refused our first room since it was so funky, and the second room wasn't much better, although it was a bit larger.  All of the condos are individually owned, so you basically get a big surprise when you open the front with regard to furniture/furnishings.  In this condo, the beds were so frigging hard it was difficult to get a good nights sleep.

The living room didn't have any table or floor lamps, just VERY BRIGHT FLUORESCENT OVERHEAD LIGHTS that made you look green.  We were wearing our sunglasses inside any time we were in there.  The bathroom was pretty standard and had decent toiletries and fluffy towels, and the fully stocked kitchen was a plus.

The meeting room that we used was another VERY TIRED room, and the catering - from Wildflour - featured under ripe fresh fruit, very sticky and damp danish, and not enough of it for what we were paying.  Jeeze.  It was kind of weird, since I had a breakfast bagel the very next day at Wildflour, and it was delicious.  I guess their strength is not in their catering skills.

I also had a massage there from one of their on-call therapist.  I wasn't expecting anything fancy, but the massage room was basically a large linen closet and was freezing - not very conducive to relaxation. I was eying the hot tubs, but decided against going in when I realized they were co-ed and my (male) co-workers were blissfully soaking their privates in 'em.

    Ack!

We just returned from a week, in the summer, at Sq aw Valley Lodge and it was perfect. If you ever, and I mean ever, go to Lake Tahoe, stay at least three nights in Squaw Valley Lodge. The rooms, that's what they call them but they are really privately owned Condos, was beyond your wildest dreams. We opened the door and thought there must have been a mistake, all for us? Two rooms, kitchen, a bathroom that equalled The Venetian in Vegas, all with a spectacular view of the mountains and chair lifts. Our nightly rate was just over one hundred dollars a night!!!! Compare that with the dumpy motel rooms down by the lake. We scored.

I can go on and on about the pool area, the best pool, jacuzzi, workout room, sauna, steam room, locker room, I have ever seen. This place was walking distance from the Village with restaurants, shops, and tram ride.

In conclusion, this place was designed by skiers and naturalists to be a slice of heaven. Did I mention they have a very strict "no smoking" anywhere near the resort policy which is highly enforced. The place is for those who care about their health and nature.

Possibly the best ski destination in California during the winter and a lot of fun in the summer.

I like this place. It's very convenient if you plan to spend a weekend on the slopes because you can retire to your cave within a few steps from the slopes which is super nice after a very tired day of skiing!

The 1-bedroom suite we've stayed in is also nice because there's a kitchen, so often times we make a pre-run to Safeway and retreat to our little cave with home-made dinner and/or  breakfast.

The bathroom also has tiles that will heat up (by water) so when you get out of the shower your feet will feel warmth instantly. There's also a nice cozy fireplace and two tvs.

Nice room, though I don't think that it is worth its cost.  Ours had a nice room with a pull-out trundle bed, enabling us to sleep four.  There was a fairly complete kitchen that we were unable to utilize, as we were justing staying for the night.  And honestly, if someone is paying $300 for the night, are they about to bring safeway sandwiches?  I think not.  And how does one "ski-in, ski-out" of a second floor room.  I just don't understand, though I am just a beginner skiier.  I guess you have to be a double black-diamond skiier to attempt this ski-out.

Funky toiletries were provided.  Their "spa" soap, shampoo, and conditioner were all of kelp.  So where you expected a sweet-smelling clean, you were left smelling slightly briny and seaweedy.  Weird.  Worse than garlic ice cream in its dissonance.

The receptionist gave us a frosty welcome, but her colleague was very pleasant.  I really don't think that this is a four-star place, despite its price.  I think it has much to learn from the Ritz.

    GREAT for the pre-season.

A buddy and I crashed here this week for some pre-season skiing before the slopes got busy and found this place to be awesome.  Since no-one shows up till Xmas, they have incredible deals though Central Reservations (ours was $110/night) for the regular Queen room, and it says "you may be eligible for a complimentary upgrade to a suite."  We figured that was just a lure, but we arrived at 10am (long before the standard 3pm checkin) and they not only upgraded us for free, but let us check in early.

The room is loaded with amenities for a longer stay.  TV, stereo (including tape decks!), dining table/chairs, pull-out coach, love seat, coffee table, bureau drawers, wireless internet, queen bed, ski rack, closet, big bathroom, central air (not the noisy window unit), and a full kitchen (burners, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, plates, silverware, bottle opener, glasses, blender, pots & pans etc - the works! - no stove).  Although we didn't use them, we did see the gym, pool, sauna, and jacuzzi's.

Unlike other reviews, we experienced no unsavory smells, the "fancy" toiletries smelled good and didn't leave any slime.  Overall, I was really happy.  We were about a 3 minute walk to the Gold Coast cable car (and ticket sales) so it's not really ski-in/out, and there is no breakfast so this isn't a B&B.

On our checkout day, they let us check our bags into the bellboy room, ski all morning, and then go to the big gym locker room and cleanup before heading back to Monterey.

Overall - no complaints, although, not sure I would want to pay $300/night for holiday season.

True ski-in / ski-out location right by KT-22 and Squaw Valley Express lifts.  Fantastic location, to say the least.

Room was spacious, but a bit dated, considering the $300+ a night price tag.  Overall, I would stay again, if only for the riduculously close proximity to the lifts.

We stayed at the lodge in January 2011 for three nights.  The location is excellent for skiing/snowboarding - in the village and super close to everything!  The staff and service were good.  The room was nice and clean and the bed was comfortable.  The walls are thin - we had  a large family staying right next door to us and they were so loud - we could hear everything! My biggest complaint is that this place uses the cheapest toilet paper ever made - when I'm paying close to $300/night, how about a little Charmin in my room? I know you can afford it.

Overall, the place was nice, but too expensive for what you get, even considering the super-close access to the slopes.

This was my first experience staying slope-side, and it convinced me that this is the way to go.  Extremely convenient and you save a lot on food.

That being said, I maybe expected a little more for the price we paid (3 nights for ~$1850 for a "regular winter season weekend").  We had six people in a two bedroom suite.  This would be nice for two couples, but it was awkward for two couples and two singles.  The common area was pretty small.  The table only sat four and only seating for five on the couches and lounge chairs.  The two bedrooms were large, and each had a connecting bathroom.  That meant that one had to enter a bedroom to use the bathroom.  We didn't really want to close the bedroom door at night, but we didn't want the people sleeping in the living room to feel like they couldn't use the bathroom at night.

    Pros:
    - Proximity to slopes
    - Free underground parking
    - Excellent Housekeeping

    Cons:
    - Pricey
    - No wireless internet - there was wired internet, which ran through one of the cabinets.
    - Toaster didn't work and we had to get a replacement
    - Said the hot tub closed at 10pm.  At 8:50, an employee came out and said hot tub closes in 10 minutes.  Hmm, seems like it would close in 1 hr and 10 min...

    Very cool location...

Of course the best part is the location. Right under the cable car. Feet from Le Chamois and the Olympic House. I walked the kids to ski school every morning and it took maybe ten minutes in all their gear with my daughter being a pretty slow walker. By myself it took about three minutes if I was in a hurry, and five if I walked leisurely. And Squaw Kids is on the opposite end of the village. Everything is within a ten minute walk...maximum. And it is a nice walk, passing all the village shops, which are open early.

2nd favorite thing was the hot tubs. So fantastic and kid friendly. They loved going to the hot tubs every day after skiing, sometimes twice. We got into a routine of sending the kids to the hot tub with one parent while the other cooked dinner. It worked well.

3rd favorite thing had to be the room itself. Beds were comfortable, even the roll out sofa was fine for an adult to sleep on. I should note the lodge seemed to have very good sound insulation. Not much noise from neighbors. Most of the noise comes from the slopes. You may get woken up by snowcats, but only if you sleep late or go to bed really early. and who does that when they ski? You are not going to waste the day in bed while the mountain awaits! But if sleeping in late is your plan you might want to bring your earplugs! I love seeing the snowcats creep around the mountain at night and watching the first gondola start its ascent. The snowcats did get very close to our room a few times. So much that my daughter started yelling for a ride, and my son stood on the balcony pretending to protect family and home from approaching demolition. The kids couldn't get enough of the snowcats!

Last notes, I loved having daily housekeeping. I'm used to staying in a chalet without housekeeping. It is so nice to come home to fresh towels and a bed made by someone who knows how to make it. Ping pong looked like fun, was certainly very popular, and the gym is fully equipped.

The Squaw Valley Lodge exceeded my expectations in most respects and that is not easy. I'm trying to think of any gripes I may have but can't come up with a one. Heating the pool during the ski season might be nice. Probably a huge waste of energy and money though. There are many hot tubs and they are good sized, but I can imagine them getting crowded at peak times. The main downside is probably that the rooms become much less affordable during peak times. But that's skiing for you! It's the same all over and certainly not specific to the Squaw Valley Lodge.

We're here right now making breakfast in our Deluxe Suite while the kids are hopping around just loving our time.  I'm compelled to give Squaw Valley Lodge a good rating and review after a well rested sleep from the gym, sauna, spa fun the 5 of us had last night.

There are two hot jacuzzis outdoors next to the unheated pool which we dipped in last night during a snowfall that reminded us of mineral hot baths in Japan.  We dipped in the cold pool screaming then jumped in the hot jacuzzi for a major thrill!  Then we all jumped in the steam sauna and the regular coal heated sauna for a finish before showering nicely and retiring finally after a whole day of snow fun.

Although we didn't take advantage of the ski packages, the stay at the lodge completed our day in the snow perfectly with a very comfortable studio complete with a kitchenette for the 5 of us.  The staff are quick and sharp and the village close by offered an array of restaurants and shops that made it easy for us to keep smiling the whole time.

We would definitely come back here.  The price is fair, parking is easy, accommodations are all up to date and facilities are clean.  You can even ski back right to the front of the lodge!  Fun times for kids.  Lots of smiles.

Awesome lodge. Very satisfied with all the amenities, ambiance etc. Breakfast buffet was wonderful. But I truly hated some of the front desk and guest services staff. Twice they were borderline rude to me. Very impatient, short and condescending. Sorry I don't have names. But they sure need to retrain staff in the customer service area.

Don't be turned off by the sometimes glitchy reservations website. Amazing deal for the summer season!!

Over an August weekend, I stayed with 2 friends in an "extended loft" suite for $174/night (before tax). We were very impressed with all the amenities included in that rate:
-2 queen beds (though they looked more like full to us) - one downstairs and one upstairs (and the couch could also be used as a sofa bed)
    -2 full bathrooms
-kitchen with 2 burners, pots & pans, mini-fridge, dishwasher, microwave, dishes and utensils, even potholders!
-living room with comfortable seating area and dining table.
-TV with DVD/VCR (you can rent movies at Alice's Market in the Village or from the Redbox at 7/11)
    -wifi
-game room with ping-pong table and board games thoughtfully set our when there was a storm warning
    -gym with weight machines
    -multiple huge, clean hot tubs
-coffee and tea in the lobby in the morning
-convenient parking garage with luggage carts

Our room looked over the pool but there was no noise issue.

Everything was clean and functional. The hallways are wide and there are breezeways so you can cover quite a lot of ground (and be almost to the Village shopping area) without going outside.

The staff was available when needed but otherwise pleasantly unobtrusive. The front desk staff was responsive to questions, whether we wanted a trail recommendation for a nice short hike, cable car schedule, activities to do before a possible storm, or to find out how to get pizza delivered.

Only loses one star for no breakfast and the high seasonal prices! Still, we got a good deal through Travelocity on a "studio suite" - about 700 sq ft with a full sized kitchen (stove, fridge, dishwasher, dishes and other shit - the most crucial of which was a bottle opener :)). The pool was crowded (but big) and there are 3 "spas" (germ-infested chlorinated hot water, no doubt). Nice dining area, desk, TV, sofa (pull-out, I think) and slightly separate bed area. Nice bathroom. Can't be snotty or snide about a damn thing other than they don't allow dogs unless you own a condo there - bollocks!

I first stayed at the SVL for my wedding and have stayed here at least once a year since then.  That's coming from someone who lives about a half hour away.  It's a great place to stay and ski.  The rooms are nice, all individually decorated and roomy with kitchens.  A private pool and hot tubs are nice for relaxing after skiing and apres ski at Mamasake.  It's also right at the pole position for a powder day, less than 50 yards from KT.

This place was everything that we ask for, and we've gotten super picky in our time. Super cheap, barely over $100 per night. About 8 ft. away from Squaw. Lovely. Super friendly. It isn't a 4 year old remodel, and you can tell that it's style isn't going to win any HGTV awards, but everything was clean pristine, and nice. Accoutrements were high quality. We were there for the summertime wanderlust, and it was loud, but we were in the party - some of the folks were there even though they weren't wanderlusting, and I think they were probably a bit bummed by the dj's at the party going until midnight. The pool area was practically san diego, super mellow, extremely friendly relaxed vibe. Squaw is superb, of course, and the condo's here are decked out for multiple people crashing. We counted sleeping for 6 without anyone on the floor, and we were in a single bed 1-bedroom condo. Not sure the prices during winter, but we'll find out this winter when we head back up. Can't wait!

Squaw Valley Lodge is our second choice when we cannot get rooms at Resort at Squaw Creek or it was just way too expensive. It is a good hotel to go if you are going with a group of people(6 or more), it has a fully equipped kitchen so you can make breakfast or dinner. One good advantage of this resort is that it is very close to the Squaw One Express Life which is only about 50ft. It is a blue lift so if you are just the beginning then depends on which building you live in you will have to walk a considerable distance before you can reach the ticket booth and the cable car. If you decided to stay here always book in advance way advance and try to arrive early so you can find a good parking spot, the lower level parking is only 6'6" tall so make sure your car does not go over that height before you enter. Overall the rooms are nice, clean, staffs are helpful and location is very convenient.

This is a little gem- so why the low score?  I assume people expect luxury accommodation and some of these units are a little dated.  They are all very well maintained- just not the 4 Seasons.  So what makes it a gem?  It is one of the few true ski in / ski out at Squaw.  It also has a pool (not heated) and huge outdoor hot tubs throughout the property.  The units all come with mini kitchens so you can have breakfast in the room and keep beverages cold for the afternoon.  The Village at Squaw Valley is also a great option in the valley but if you are not careful you can have to walk a distance from your room to the lift.  Another bummer- if your room faced the inside of the village you can hear the late night bar traffic.  Granted if you get slope side at the Squaw Valley Lodge you could be woken up by the grooming equipment as it heads up the mountain...personally that is music to my ears.  In the summer the hotel also has tennis courts and a fitness room that is well equipped.
