Unfortunate to see a once-good bar being shut down by the so-so competition in the area.

If you work there and are reading this, cut down on the drink prices, host some interesting events to get more faces inside. Most importantly, up your service. This place has too much potential to be as undermanaged as it is.

To my surprise as well as delight, I have noticed that the Social is making a rather creative effort to bring the crowd back in through its doors. As I mentioned in my initial review, there was a regularly scheduled event to which a DJ was there accompanied by a Congo drummer. Since that review I have returned to the Social for a similar "cultural event" and had fun (drinking only beer, of course).  With all the daily specials posted on the marque, I may have to make a soon visit to the recently resurrected establishment, the Social.

Well if you are looking for a bar on Washington with bad service and bad atmosphere then go here but if you aren't then go to any of the 20 other places on Washington I recommend Sawyer park or pearl or even that country bar rebels. Not to be a downer but went there the other day music was too loud service non existent and food sucked BTW saw roach in bathroom and a chick doing coke.

Oh, The Social. You used to be my favorite Sunday night spot back in the day when you were the only kid on the block. I have to admit that since your renovation a few years back, you look better than ever. But then something happened  ... people forgot about you. So I gave you a shot.

It was the "Wednesday: All you can eat crawfish" sign that made me and some friends close out our tab at Porch Swing and walk over to The Social. Surprisingly, there were a lot of people--outside only though. Inside was a cold ghost town.

For 20 bucks, it was all you can eat, including corn and potatoes and shriveled up pieces of sausage (he he). These were the largest crawfish I've seen, not only this lackluster season, but in a few years. They were lobster-esque. I still have a few cuts on my poor little thumbs from trying to pry open the claws. They were seasoned well, but what was missing was the juice. I love sucking the spicy water from them badboys, so I went back up to the nice barback serving the trays of mudbugs and asked if he could scoop me up a batch of bugs from the bottom ... or at least pour in some H20 that was boiling in the pot behind him. But that was a fail. And some of the potatoes disintegrated, leaving a grimy layer of potato on the crawfish. Still, I ate two trays. i was tempted to go back for some more, but my tired little fingers wouldn't allow it.

I'd recommend at least trying this Wednesday special. Perhaps you would like it, and I'd consider going back ... maybe.

As for The Social's other nights, I really do hope they get some promoting or advertising done to bring in more people. And better drink specials too. Before last night, the last time I came with Vanessa R for a work function, I spent more than 80 on just a few drinks and shots for us two gals. Mucho dinero for a place that lacks the excitement of a happenin' crowd.

Very nice place unfortunately their service is the worst thing I have ever experience. We looked for a waitress for about an hour, after she decided to show up it took her over an hour for them to bring the food but only ten minutes to charge us for our food.

They don't respect reserved events we got charge to enter the place even though our friends had made reservations for their party.

I really think they lost several good potential customers.

I'm a bit surprised about the lackluster posts on this place.

I lounge around the The Social at least once a month and always on a Friday night; so I can't speak for the other nights of the week. On Fridays however, DJ Aggravated is there from 10p-2a and the crowd ranges from 25 years old and up. The music is always old school so there is something played for everyone. The drinks can be a bit pricey, but happy hour on Friday lasts until 9pm...so if you get there somewhat early you can get a good buzz without breaking the bank. I suggest this place as a Friday night before you go to the club spot.

How in the _____ is this place still open. There is never anyone in here, the drinks are caaaraaazy high, and I just can't get with the music.

That's all I've got to say about this place, it's horrible. Steer clear.

The Social is never a bar I think about going to.  I typically will just end up here, or some friends will drag me here.  There is nothing wrong with The Social, it has a great patio and the interior is actually pretty cool.  The inside has dark wood and large booths with sofas and some lounge chairs.  The patio has all kinds of options for you.  The Social sits on the corner of Washington and Yale.  This makes it so the patio wraps around Washington Ave. and Yale St.  It is usually not busy so it makes a great place for a after work happy hour.  I would be careful because the happy hour prices are not very happy.   It does have free WiFi which is a bonus if you have some work to wrap up, do it with a beer.

Like I said I will probably never think to come to The Social, but if some one suggests it, I will be there drinking beer with them.

I, mostly against my will, was drug to The Social for my first time about a year ago. My friends went weekly during their college years, but had not been in a while. Their first comments were, "Where is everyone? This place is dead." Indeed.

I've now been a few times...most always against my will.  It's a nice bar. It's large and has many varied seating areas both inside and out.  Inside, there is a booth section, a DJ around the corner, then a bar area with lots of TVs, the majority of the bar patrons, a nice, long bar table with quite a few bar stools surrounding, and a great industrially-inspired chandelier above.  Outside, seating runs the gamut of "outdoor seating" styles.  Umbrellaed tables, biergarten tables (strong enough for dancing), and "fancy lawn furniture."  Think 10'sq cushioned benches.  If you got a little sleepy, you could take a twenty minute power nap, then continue drinking.

Basically, there are lots of enclaves for your large group of friends to relax in.  On that note, since this place is so under-crowded, it's a good idea to bring the party/gang with you, because you're really not going to meet many people here unless you are at the bar trying to negotiate through the crowd of people also trying to get drinks.

I mentioned the dj and want to go back to him.  Um, it's odd seeing a dj for a bar full of fifty people...tops.  It's just a little sad and haunting to hear music being mixed alongside crickets.  A couple of plays come to mind, but I won't digress.  I will point out that it was awesome to hear Posse on Broadway mixed in.

Oh, and the prices are a little steep.  $7 for genera-wine?  Really?!  It wasn't Yellow Tail, but it was very close.  Also, there was a price increase from when I ordered at the bar to when the waitress took my order from the 10'sq cushioned bench ($8).

i love this place. Outside it has the vibe of a yuppie place (sorry not for me). BUT, go inside where you dont care if youre not seen, and you will be in another ambiance. It gave me, at least, the mood of a slightly slightly gothic yet classy sports bar. HUGE booths. very nice bar area.

Well, thats the vibe i came out with, with a few drinks. So take it for what it is haha. The bar keep was very nice and great with her recommendations for different drinks. All in all this place is great for a small group or youre in the neighborhood and dont want to miss the game (theyve got plenty of plasmas, but dont make it a tacky mess)

crowd level on a thursday night, when i went, was not huge. 20+ maybe? so i doubt youll run into the obnoxious drunk loud idiot at this place.

OK I came here towards the end of my Saturday night in the heights and was expecting to check out a new joint with new faces...I was amazed to find about 10 people TOTAL inside.  I am amazed they make enough money to stay open.  They played top 40 music, the bartender was in the back? I waited about 3 minutes before someone showed up to take my order.  I mean when you have only 10 people you figure he'd be standing waiting for orders not waiting in the back.  I will NEVER come back here again...unless I have to use the restroom since no one was here I didn't have to wait in line.

A good place to come to with a larger group of people because you'll have plenty of space to mill around outside.  Finding parking was easy, drinks were fine, and the music wasn't bad.

I went to the Social last night to watch Manny Pacquiao beat the snot out of Oscar de La Hoya.  My first thought was gosh darnit, why did I forget my size 40 chola pants at home?  I ordered a Jack and Coke and I watched the bartender make my drink, he ran out of Jack in the middle of pouring my shot and filled the rest of the cup with Coke and gave it to me, he thought I wouldn't notice.  I waited about 10 minutes before I was able to get his attention to finish pouring the rest of my shot.  The DJ was decent but wouldn't waste a Saturday night going to the Social.

While I remember when this was "tha' spot"...I sort of forgot about it.  I always thought it was nice and liked the vibe and the music, but there were SO many new places.  And most of my friends were going to them.  I met a girlfriend there recently and am so glad I did.  They redid it!  And they have food!  I remember there were tacos or something before, but this is full on restaurant food.  It's so good.  And it was not obnoxiously packed elbow to elbow which, frankly, I'm sick of.  I just moved back to the Heights and I can't think of a better place to spend a night out.  It's close to my house.  The atmosphere is among the best...and it's effortless.  I didn't feel like everyone was trying so hard.  It was a long way from all the new places which are a dime a dozen, packed liked sardines and full of douchebags.  Standing in line for that was fine when I was a kid.  But I'm an adult.  And I like to go to a nice place with good drinks, great food and a nice vibe.  This place was the original on Washington and I'm happy to find it again better than before.

Have not been in a few years, but it was fun when I went! Don't know what it's like now days, but I'm sure it's not what it used to be (cool factor cycle ended).
