This place is awesome! Shame on Kilroy Properties for being complete corporate bastards and trading their lease for some commercial chain competitor.
Look forward to visiting the folks here when they relocate! Sounds like they may stay in the neighborhood and I'll be bringing them my business.
Sandwiches here are amazing. Fresh produce and products all wrapped with care. I'll miss having them so close. -

Fro-yo girl here. Snack Depot is now closed. I went awhile ago for fro-yo. It's inside the building (took me awhile to figure that out and the front desk wasn't helpful). It looked like a convenience store with salads, sandwiches, wraps, snacks, coffee, pastries and 2 fro-yo machines.
The fro-yo machines looked ancient. Only one was working.
Fro-yo flavors of the day:
* Cable car chocolate
* Country vanilla: I've had this flavor before and like it. It's usually creamy but Snack Depot's was but was too soft, slimy, and gooey...fro-yo rarely gooey. It seemed old.
Fro-yo prices: 8 ozs. $2.95/ 12 ozs. $3.95/ 16 ozs. $4.95
There were 6 dry toppings to choose from: candy, cookies, nuts, and sprinkles.
You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.Listed in: Fro-yo Girl Speaks Reviews,…

So sad to see this awesome place go. They made my favorite falafel plate.

I cannot believe that "KillJoy" Realty has done such a shady thing to oust The Snack Depot from 303 2nd Avenue! Less than one month's notice and they are out of there. This longtime breakfast and lunch shop provides great food and even greater customer service. Apparently KillJoy will put in some other shop (or tear down the space) and charge them top rent in order to pay for their remodeling.
It's all about the money.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Talk about a secret spot! It's located inside a business building and is tucked away around a corner in the lobby.
Trying to decide on a sandwich wasn't easy. They had a ton to choose from. They even had wraps, burritos and gyros. I was so overwhelmed by the choices I went with a basic BLT. It was bigger than I expected and decently priced. It was filled with lots of bacon, just the right amount of lettuce, tomato and mayo. I plan on going back to try their gyros. -
Review from Peter L.
Update2: gahh, they are closing soon...the building's owner are kicking them out...that is, not renewing their lease so they can attract "higher-end" tenants. :!
Update1: $1.95 for this huge chocolate chip muffin (http://www.yelp.com/bi...). Tried the Philly Cheesesteak and it was also good if a bit messy. Got soggy however since the large sandwich took time to eat. The Old Fashioned Melt was huge (http://www.yelp.com/bi...), just like their other sandwiches!
On the first visit I tried The Club. Theirs was tasty and I liked it a lot and will get again. The mix of flavors and texture seemed perfect; not too salty nor bland, not too crunchy nor soft. On the second visit, I tried the Italian Melt and liked that even more than The Club! I think it's the sauce/dressing/spread in the sandwiches. Most positive yelp reviews listed more than one sandwich so it's no fluke. It also helps the sandwiches are pretty big, and they toast the bread so your sandwiches are never soggy Will return often, yes.
Strictly take-out and prices are very, very reasonable for SOMA! This place is like a convenience store that doubles as a sandwich deli, but located on the ground floor of an office building (http://www.yelp.com/bi...). Instead of a deli with chairs and tables, in their places are things you would find in a 7-11 (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) or a snack shop (http://www.yelp.com/bi...).
Five stars even though there are no tables and chairs. The owner, George, works the register and bags the sandwiches - very friendly guy. They have a decent breakfast menu (http://www.yelp.com/bi...). You just get your order and sit out in the huge courtyard outside the building and eat away. -
Review from Kyle W.
Such a money sandwich shop. Especially for an area that lacks real good deli style type of sandwiches.
The Snack Depot is lovingly called the "The Secret Sandwich Shop" because It's kind of hidden in the lobby of one of the office buildings to the left of Maya. This was one of my favorite lunch spots in SOMA.
The highlight of this place are the sandwiches and I wouldn't deviate from the sandwiches as the wraps aren't all that special. The showstopper is that bread they use on the sandwiches. It's so damn soft and moist you just want to grab a whole damn loaf and cuddle with it.
Not much else you can really say about a cold cut sandwich, but it's a cheaper alternative to places like Specialty's, Madeleine that are in the area.Listed in: San Francisco - SOMA Lunch…

Snack Depot is losing their lease. 21 years and they were given a month notice. Boom times in SF means that building owners get to trample on the little guys. If you'd like to voice your displeasure, please write a personal email to

Review from Bill B.
The menu selection for sandwiches, wraps, schwarma, and Middle-Eastern specialties is extensive to the point of being overwhelming, particularly because so many items are printed on individual sheets of paper and taped up all over. The beef kufta kabbo wrap I had was both very good and VERY large. I loved the lavash bread (similar to a tortilla) used for the wrap though it did tear, making it messier to eat. Most options are around $7.
A large drink case dominates one wall and overlooks a standard convenience store array of snacks and pharmacy goods. Unusual though, it the extensive selection of greeting cards and the small rack of pantyhose and socks. If you're looking for a new lunch spot, this is a solid. If your boss has damaged hosiery and a presentation today, score some points and send them here! -

A little hard to find, but, damn, that's a good sandwich.
My personal favorite is the italian melt on dutch crunch, with extra peppers; although, if I'm feeling like something lighter, the turkey & mustard on wheat is also pretty great.
My only real complaint is that the sandwiches are maybe 30% too big (esp. if you get the rolls). Beyond that, the service is friendly and great, and the price is hard to beat. On a sunny day the triangle outside is a great place to sit and enjoy the people watching / great weather. -

My coworkers took me here for the first time (they've been coming here for a while). All I knew is we were going to a hole in the wall deli/convenience store. I wasn't expecting much, but I was hungry, so I tagged along. I was definitely pleasantly surprised!
There were a lot of good-looking sandwiches, but I finally decided upon the #14 (turkey, avocado, jack, on whole wheat bread, and I added sprouts and extra pickles). While they made my sandwich, I grabbed a container of fresh strawberries and ordered a mocha.
The sandwich was perfect, and they didn't charge me for the extra sprouts and pickles, which was nice. I didn't notice the option to make the mocha a soy, which I will definitely do next time! The mocha was a little pricey for the size, but it tasted really good, so I'm not too bothered by it.
They had a lot of sandwich choices, as well as a good-looking salad and wrap bar, and a large selection of convenience store items. And I noticed that they have frozen yogurt (and a selection of sprinkles)! All in all, I am very satisfied with this place, and will definitely be back!
And they DO take credit cards (I paid with one) :-) -

Love their sandwiches! My favorite to date is what I've dubbed "the melty sammich", but is really the "Hot Swiss Vegetarian". They're big enough to share and are all about $7-8.
I'm determined to eventually try everything on their menu.
Note: They used to be cash only, but now take credit card for an extra $0.50 charge. -
Review from AJ H.
this place is great for grabbing something on the go.
their hot sandwich melts are well made, good size, tasty, and affordable.
it definitely beats a lot of other sandwich places nearby since its in financial/soma area and everywhere else charges just as much for a more simple and smaller sandwich.
i love the old fashion melt here. -

It's a little tucked away (inside the lobby of an office building and around the corner), but this is a perfectly respectable place to a grab sandwich for lunch, especially if the weather's nice enough to eat outside. It doubles as a convenience store too.
They don't skimp here, as the sandwiches are bigger and fatter than average. I ordered the hot chicken club and walked away from my lunch feeling full and satisfied, but the flavor was about average. Nothing special in it to really set it apart. $7-ish.
I'll be coming back, since I work pretty close by, but wouldn't otherwise go out of my way to eat here. It certainly caters to the lunchtime crowd in the area. -

No matter what I order here, the sandwiches are always made fresh and are really large. So you definitely get your money's worth whenever you order here. The only downside is that its cash only but they have an ATM to use should you need it.
Since this is a convenient store type of location, you can always buy some little snacks and drinks as well to go along with your food. You can even buy your monthly MUNI pass here. Tons of choices, tons of goodness. I definitely recommend checking this place out. -

Damn you Yelp for exposing the "Secret Sandwich Place" for all the world! I used to work summers at 4th and Howard and would always come to this place for lunch. For $6/$7, you receive in your eager hands a HUGE sandwich on delicious toasted bread with delicious melted cheese. At most other places, the same amount of cash can only buy half of one of these.
Go into the stuffy looking corporate office, go to the end of the lobby and turn left. Don't get discouraged if it looks like you're about to turn into a janitor's closet, for there before sits the modestly named Snack Depot. -

Everything I have had here has been unflookinbelievable.
And affordable
If you want the best sandwich in the financial district EVA- you need to come here. Now I know I write with alot of superlatives. But this time I mean it.
Their meatball sandwich will own you. (I usually only eat chicken and fish...but this sandwich looked so incredible...that I had to have a bite)
Their chicken parmesan sandwich will own you.
Their turkey and avocado sandwich will own you.
Their club sandwich will own you.
I mean OWN (like you'll be wearing a Snack Depot varsity jacket around town with a meatball ring around your neck kinda own) you. It'll be hard to look at any sandwich the same after one"juicy, slightly spicy, tomato-y, tangy, fresh-bread crunchy" bite of Snack Depot's.
There ain't no wimpy soggy bread 'wiches at this place. They're hearty with the works...lettuce, tomato, jalapeno, cheese, mayonaise, tomato sauce (SOOOOOOOooo good), and insert the meat - or lack of meat that you desire)
(Snack Depot also has a ton of great veggie options too)
If you are ready to swear allegiance to the one and only Snack Despot. (and I mean Despot in a good way)
Make the trip to Folsom and 2nd.
I promise (will even be willing to make a wager on it...once I think of something good) that you will be making scribbles like this....

They laughed.
They joked.
They pointed.
They warned.
But did i listen? Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
I laughed right back at my co-workers when they said that the meatball sammich here was too big to actually finish. I balked at the notion that this was too big a feet for this 5'11 amazon to tackle. I even ordered it with extra pickles just like i was told and then I dove in!
During the first half, I had that sum'bitch! Oh yes, it was going down and it wasn't gonna stand a chance. Then came the second half and my stomach sent up the following message...
"Yo, stupid. You can't do this. You haven't been eating this kind of food for awhile and to attempt to stuff a meatball sub down your throat intended for a man of a John Goodman stature is just friggin bananas"
But did i listen? Of course not. And so the second half challenge began and I got half way through it when I started to see double. Maybe it was the heat. Maybe it was the meat. Maybe it was reality kickin' in, but eventually, I folded. But damn, it was a good fight while it lasted and will make a damn good part two next time I am hungover as hell! -

In the words of Britney Spears, I'm a slave.....to the 3 block radius surrounding my office building. I don't stray much further. However upon reading Jessica T's review, I knew I had to go and check this place out. Dude...it's not close. It took about half my lunch break just to walk there and back with my sammie...but ill tell you. I'm definitely gonna go back.
Jessica recommended the meatball sub. Too bad I didn't get the recommendation till I returned today, however, my choice....I'm pleased. Now I just have an excuse to head back there.
I don't know if it the Jew in me, but I'm a huge fan of cream cheese...on bagels, in sushi, etc...So when I saw the Turkey, Avocado, Bacon and CREAM CHEESE sammie, I knew I had to get it. OK...so I'm a bad Jew apparently, and crave the dairy of the cream cheese with the forbidden Bacon, but we cant all be perfect, can we? This thing is ginormous! Topped with lettuce, tomato, mustard and mayo (I had the option for pickle, onion and peppers, but I said no), it makes for a delish lunch. I'm about to wrap the second half up and save it for an afternoon snack.
It's a convenience store too. Cigarettes behind the counter, chips, candy and vitamin water available to purchase too. And while I wait for my sandwich, I can read the tabloids at the magazine rack. Learn every new detail as to Britney's tragic life after her success with Slave. I'll be back...oh yes; I'll just need the motivation for the walk.Listed in: Lunch in the FiDi

Wandering around the complex a bit, I finally found Snack Depot tucked away in a small hallway. I took the safe way out and got a roast beef melt with everything on it. For its price ($6.30), this was a great deal. The sandwich is HUGE. Bread was nice and chewy. The roast beef was pretty good and went very well with the melted cheddar cheese and jalapenos.
Service is fantastic. The owner is super nice and laid back. Made you feel welcomed and at home.
Not the best sandwich ever, but it's definitely a great place to go in the financial district. I think I will try the chicken parmesan next time and hope to be satisfied again.

It's my fave place for lunch during the work week! The roast beef melt reminded me sooo much of the roast beef sandwich from Roxie's. So one day, I told George (owner) that I loved that his sandwiches and they were as good as Roxie's and he told me that he was cousins with the Roxie's owner. So if you love Roxie's, you'll love Snack Depot just as much!
Roast beef melt, tuna melt, and the turkey melt are my faves. There are days I get the cold versions. Chicken Parmesan and the Meatball sandwiches are also on my list. I've yet to try the wraps and the breakfast items other then the muffins.
My friend told me one day they had muffins. I think I ate the chocolate chip muffin everyday for about 2 weeks, it was that good! I never knew about 'em cause they would run out before lunch. The bran muffin is good, reminds me of a carrot cake muffin minus the cream cheese frosting. The banana-nut muffin also comes without the nuts and they also have a good blueberry muffin.
While waiting for your order you're welcome to read the magazines or you can call ahead 415-546-6201. Yah, I got the card here on my desk. So what? and yesss, I am Yelping while at work. Again, so what? =)Listed in: Samiches!

This is the second time I had a sandwich from this place. The first time someone picked one up for me, but today I went there on my own to actually check the place out.
Let me just say that their meatball sub is unbelievable. My god, just incredibly unbelievable. I rarely use the word unbelievable to describe a sandwich, because i generally don't like sandwiches all that much... there's just something about them that's really lame. Anyway, it's quite surprising, because the place is so hidden and unassuming that you never guess such fantastic culinary delights could ever come out of a place like this. I mean, you walk in there, and it's a friggin' convenience store complete with batteries and and a magazine rack. I did however find the magazine rack quite useful for the US Weekly I read while waiting for my sandwich to be made.
The staff was friendly and the prices are ultra super mega sweet. 5.75 for a fully loaded meatball sub, 6.20 with tax. If you don't eat a lot, split it with a friend, cause seriously their sandwiches are huge.
If it's a nice day in the city, eat your sandwich in the plaza right outside for a wonderful lunch. FO'REAL, it's a dream yo. Anyone who works within a 2 block radius should check this place out. -

A random convenience store located in an office building that makes delicious sandwiches? Why, yes. Yes, it is.
The Snack DepoT gets the slashie of the year award from me, for best convenience store slash deli. They really make fantastic sandwiches and I would have absolutely no problem eating here every single day.
The Snack DepoT even makes the claim "Best Sandwiches" on their white board and they are correct in doing so. I especially appreciate that they don't identify their league. Best Sandwiches in Soma? San Francisco? The United States? The world? Ever? Yes, best sandwiches ever, I think. -
Review from Jeff N.
Ah, I've never eaten a meatball sandwich until now.
Rounding out the week's trifecta of Algiers and Sentinel, Snack Depot has won my heart for middle of the road (in price and creativity) sandwiches.
Things I appreciated with this sandwich:
1. Smaller balls. Usually, small balls are a bad thing, but when it comes sandwiched in between buns, the smaller the better to prevent the balls from falling out of the buns.
2. Spiced balls. It actually tasted good with or without sauce.
3. Plenty of balls. I didn't have 1 bite without a ball in my mouth.
4. Soft buns. I'm usually seen tearing away at meatball sandwiches with marinara sauce spilling all over and balls flying everywhere, but the bread here at Snack Depot is actually very soft and easy to eat. All the balls were in the right place (in my mouth, rather than on the ground) during lunch.
While it's a fairly longer walk to this location, it'll be worth it when I'm craving the balls.
Oh, the sandwich was good here too. -

Delicious sandwiches. Stick to the sandwiches. A couple of co-workers got adventurous and ordered wraps or burrito type items and they were a mess. If you stick with what they're good at it will be delicious.
I had a standard roast beef sandwich with everything, it had some jalapeños on it which was not something I expected but was surprisingly good. -

Their chicken parm on their sando is grilled and not fried or breaded. Not your traditional chicken parm but healthy and scrumptious. Be sure to hold the jalapenos, if you don't any heat, they add them to most hot sandwiches. Best breakfast burrito in the area. Try the PB&J muffin which they make from scratch.
The owner George is very nice and takes care of his regular customers! Don't give quizno's or subway a consideration. Go to George's NOW. -

If you want the BEST SANDWICH OF YOUR LIFE, then go find the "secret deli" a.k.a. Snack Depot (apparently). Considering that sandwiches come in a close second to burritos as my Yelp! "last meal on earth," I ain't playing when it comes to declaring such things.
I was first taken here by some co-workers and was not impressed once I saw that Snack Depot was a convenience store/deli located on the bottom floor of a business building. There were magazines, drinks, snacks, and an ATM machine because they don't take card (the one and only sucky thing about this place.....along with the fact that there is nowhere to sit). However, there is a nice courtyard with trees and a fountain where we usually perch after our purch at TSD (sorry in advance for this last sentence).
Bottom-line: Persevere and pay the $2 ATM fee (if you have no cashola), and be prepared to meet the best sandwich of your life. The sandwiches here are GIGANTIC and usually cost around $5. The owners of Snack Depot do not hold back whatsoever when it comes to the size and toppings of these bad boys. I usually get the Turkey Avocado with Jack cheese. I also tried an Egg Salad Avocado. If you love the 'cado, this place has many options for you. Another sandwich my friends tend to order is the meatball. It's F'ing huge and like Jessica T. says, "it will own you."
Speaking of owning, the owners are friendly and somehow manage to shoot the sandwiches out fairly fast despite the high demand and long lines.
Even though this place is located in a basement in SOMA, it is completely worth it to find "the secret deli." As Oprah says, "some of life's best things are hidden." (i keed i keed....i don't want to get sued by HARPO). But in this case, it is very true. Do yourself and the world a favor and come to the THE SNACK DEPOT! -

The Snack Depot is like a mini mart that happens to serve house-made sandwiches, sandwiches that are not pretty. It's sloppy and raw, and you're lucky if the three napkins they supply you is enough to wipe your mouth with. I'm partial to the super veggie, myself.
A hike and a half from Sacramento (Street, that is--they're good, but not THAT good), the trek here is worth it; the sandwiches are large (enough for two small meals) and cheap (under $6), but tasty, whereas most other joints around these parts have a tradeoff between prices and quality.
Hidden is right. Enter from the North Tower; part of the fun lies in finding it.Listed in: The Requisite FiDi Lunch List, The Veggie Sandwich

Trying to find this place is like trying to find meaning in a Pauly Shore movie. (Also, where has Alicia Silverstone's career gone? Seriously.)
This place is tucked away in the back of the lobby and doesn't look like the sort of place that would serve GLORIOUS SANDWICHES. But it is.
I have been getting the chicken salad melted with cheese. Everything is better with melted cheese. EVERYTHING.
Don't tell your friends about this place though because it's busy enough at lunch. And don't review it on Yelp for the masses to see. Wait. Shit.
Edit: Be sure to be as specific as possible. My sandwiches always seem to have something wrong with them (ie. peppers when I said no and no cheese despite asking for a melt). Minus one star. But it's still a pretty bombtastic sandwich place.Listed in: I WILL EAT YOUR…

My face is on fire.
I inhaled the meatball sandwich from Snack Depot, and the fire on my face is due to the meatball sandwich's hot pepper juice spilling all over my face. This, my friends, is a meatball sandwich.
I have Brian J. to thank for finding this place...since he introduced it to Michael E. who took me there today. Michael E.'s favorite meatball sandwich place is just a bit too far away from the office, so we went to the Snack Depot. Snack Depot is hidden in a random office building in a convenience store, and the place has a wide variety of sandwiches (Jessica T. seemed to enjoy her standard turkey/avocado/jack cheese sandwich). The meatball sandwich was filled with all of the good stuff - meatballs (obviously!), hot peppers, lettuce, mayo...yums. The bread was just right - in between crunchy and soft. This sandwich is for serious meatball sandwich lovers....and hungry ones at that; I think each sandwich must weight at least one pound. And the sandwiches are so inexpensive - $6!

I kinda have a thing for frozen yogurt as well as anything peanut butter and today SD had peanut butter frozen yogurt...2 of my favorite things in the world rolled into one. I asked for a sample and the friendly owner gave me a heaping (like it almost dripped all over the floor and my face) spoonful and it was divine. I got medium which was huge and when I asked for PB and chocolate, but heavy on the PB I was obliged with 2/3 PB and 1/3 chocolate...great service and delicious!
If you aren't getting fro yo, the key here is to get a hot sandwich. Unfortunately I have been here a number of times and have just recently learned this lesson myself. I always come back thinking "I've made a huge mistake"...
Thankfully my friend Evan L. does not make the same mistakes that I do and is nice enough to let me try his deliciously melted cheesy hot sandwiches. Not only are they smothered in melted cheese, they are HUGE and come on a french bread roll...(this bread is significantly better than the sliced wheat/white/sourdough that you get with the cold sandwiches). They're not only good, they are so inexpensive too! While every other sandwich place around here is charging 8-10 bucks a pop for sandwiches, Snack Depot is keeping it real with their $6 'wiches.
Also, they sell pretty much everything you could possibly need/want in this place...by need/want I mean compulsively buy or compulsively want to buy...a.k.a moon pies, diet cream soda and bbq/blue cheese dorritos...
In conclusion, get the hot sandwiches...Evan L.'s right, "Everything is better with melted cheese."Listed in: Ch-Ch-Ch-Cheap Eats!

Yelp both introduced me to this place and ruined it within 2 years. ECEG.
The sandwiches used to be amazing, Broodwich-esque epics of fresh meat, soft bread, pungent cheese. Back in the day. Now they are quite ordinary.
Today, my combo was microwaved for some reason and had pesto crap all over it. Complete garbage. Hot salami not cool. Well some hot salami is cool (like mine!) but not theirs got it? Theirs leaks hot salty juice, whereas... oh.
The time before this time, the sandwich had 3 slices of meat (the absolute minimum for a 3-meat combo!) where an inch-thick stack once stood.
Not worth the parking ticket (anymore). People in that weird office building, the Snack Depot is once more yours. Please keep it. -

My vote for the best sandwiches in the SOMA area.
So far I've had the meatball sandwich and the Italian melt. I ordered my sandwiches with everything on them and they were awesome!
Thank the exercise gods that this joint is at least a couple of blocks from my work place. It's far enough away that I won't go all the time, but close enough that if I do, I at least get a little walkie walk in to burn off some of those calories.
If you are looking for a gourmet experience - this isn't the place. Come on.. it's a small mom and pop owned convenience store type of joint hidden in an office building. But if you are looking for a hearty deli sammich. Seek it out for lunch. You'll be glad you did.
P.S. It's a damn' big sandwich for $6-$7 bucks. -

I was introduced to this place by my coworkers (Richard, Brian & Wendy) who claimed they found the ultimate meatball joint. I was intrigued. I've now been to 'Snack Depot' about 10 times so I feel that I can write a pretty honest review.
If you've felt that your toaster oven sandwiches are pretty skimpy this place has name written on it. The sandwich size is much more fat chick (complement) than any other place I've been in the city. It's like they super size this shit for free. It's massive even for a dude like me. It keeps me coming back.
I've had a few sandwich mishaps with cheese on my meatballs and the order not coming out for a while.
Tip to the owner, if you could somehow move the drinks closer to the counter you'd sell 10x more drink to customers. Even if you have a little fridge with a subset of drinks you could sell more. Trust me, do a test for a week and see what I'm talking about :).
I've tried the tuna sandwich at least 5 times on baguette and wheat, baguette wins. I've had the Mediterranean platter, the pita wasn't awesome I would skip this one. I've had the meat ball sandwich which came with cheese so I'm scared to order it again.Listed in: Lunch near the office

Chicken kebab sandwich.
OHHhh yeah. deliciously full of hummous, lettuce tomatoes and other things that mere mortals like myself dare not understand. George is a magician, nay a saint to the food eating community in this tepid little building of mine.Listed in: A New Exploration of Afternoon…, My quest for the ultimate…

Review from Jason B.
Yelpers! You all rock! Were it not for you, there is no way I would have found this place. Tucked inside of an office building, Snack Depot serves up pretty much everything I love, including lattes, wraps and froyo. My first time (everyone has a first, right), was for lunch, featuring chicken, veggies and hummus wrapped in lavash. The first bite was good, the second was even better and so on, until every last bite was devoured.
I loved how my wrap was not on the menu - it was totally custom built to my picky specifications (no cheese, but mind putting a little hummus on there, etc). And I loved even more that the friendly lady helping us was so proud of her lentil concoction that she effusively include a sample with our wraps. Now that's love for what you do.
