The Smoke joint has a full house on a Wednesday night. Fort Greene is craving BBQ and it shows. Equipped with a bar to eat or wait at, I graze over at what people are eating while sipping my ginger ale. I sought out dry looking ribs at several tables. By the time it is our turn to order, I discover the Baby Back Ribs lean and mean (half 12.00) happens to be the same dry ribs. So dry--you would mistake it for microwaved-leftover-chicken breast from nights before. Perhaps it was meant to be eaten with the BBQ sauce (stationed on every table). But I refuse to mask the delicate flavor of the baby back with an outside condiment--at least, not on the very first bite. I soon forfeited, as it is not possible to get pass the second bite without the sauce.
Next order Crispy Catfish Sandwich served with barbecue aioli (7.50) is fairly tasty if you disregard looking at the catfish--or shall I say catfishes--three awkwardly looking nugget-sized pieces of fish resembling those from the childhood days of cafeteria food served on styrofoam trays. Despite the disfigured shapes, the sandwich fared well. One key part to the sandwich's success was the toasted Kaiser roll which added an extra layer of crunch with the crispy catfish.
Sides. From least to favorite:
Barbecued Beans caution. contains hunks of meat (3.00) - should be called candied beans caution, overly sweet, overwhelming the smoky flavor;
Corn On The Cob jointrub, barbecue aioli and green onions (2.50)- fairly seasoned and juicy
;
Spicy French Fries dusted with jointrub (3.00) - very well seasoned and nicely fried with a bold crunchy taste.
If you're trapped in Font Greene and in need for a BBQ fix, Smoke Joint can help, sort of. Sandwiches are a safe bet. And if you're a party of three you will be squeezed into a table for two.
The food is fairly priced for a very gentrified Fort Greene, though attracting a diverse crowd of people. Conclusion: BBQ definitely does not discriminate.
the food is decent enough.. My main complaint is the bar service.. Both times i have been here, it has taken 30 minutes for the bar to serve us our drinks..
Yesterday we ordered two beers and a bloody mary.. My buddy drove, I put a timer on my phone to alert us when to feed the meter. By the time we ordered to the time to drinks came , it was 35 minutes..
This has happened both times I have come and the place was not even half full..
Again, the food is pretty good.. The service is always lacking.. Our food came out after being in the restaurant for 50 minutes..
Since they smoke all their food, you know all the food is ready back there.. I dont know what takes so long..
Chicken was good.. Had a really nice smokey flavor.. The catfish sandwich was ok.. But nothing is worth the wait or dealing with the poor service..
I will give it one more shot.
I wish I had gone with a friend to this place so I could have ordered more food to try and split with someone. I was running an errand in the neighborhood and I needed to kill some time and it was around dinner time anyways, so I dropped in to check it out. I ordered the BBQ beef sandwich platter and an order of fries. Those fries are delicious. The beef was really tender.. and their BBQ sauce.. it's a little thin but it's pretty flavorful. I smothered my beef in the sweet and spicy BBQ sauces.
I sat at the bar and the woman bartender was super friendly. It must be a fav amongst locals since she knew a lot of the people who were eating at the bar too. It's a pretty cozy place and the prices are reasonable. I would definitely go again. I want to try the mac and cheese next time and the ribs.
I love that Smoke Joint delivers and that it's so close to my house. My biggest somplaint is on how dry and over-cooked the food is most of the time. I mean, if BBQ is all you do, you should do it well.
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE, did I mention LOVE!
This place is amazing!!!! Great fun, food, and fiesta. Went here a couple of weeks ago on a busy night. Exciting crowd, even better food. Drinks were delicious (Bourbon Bar, like dozens of bourbons to choose from and cocktails for the adventurous). Service was sweet and efficient. Server was a cute little number that made me and my friends giggle, which is perfect with the rustic atmosphere, I mean hell, if my ribs are gonna have some zing, then my server better throw on a little spice, if yah know what I mean. My ribs were delicious and tender, juicy on the inside with a real killer smoke that reminded me of my time in the south. Two sauces sweet and spicy. SWEET. LIke I said, my buddies and I were also sampling some of their delicious brews and bourbons (one of my buds got a cocktail and said it was amazing!!), which was awesome!
You want some awesome BBQ, great atmosphere, and a general good time, well then you just head on over to the SMOKE JOINT.
I'm sticking with the 3 stars. Good BBQ for sure but not the best I've had in the area. The pulled pork was tasty though it needed a fair amount of sauce. The fries are also tasty though I've had better. I got a drink called the Tiger Wood: half limeade half iced tea. The waitress smirked when I ordered it. Seriously do not name your drinks with dumbass names if the waitress is only going to judge you when you order it. That being said, I did enjoy my childish drink. Lastly, I recommend sitting in the back - better than in the front.

The food was okay the first two times, but after ordering take out the fries were placed in a brown paper bag. Beware do not order takeout fries from here your fries will be placed in a greasy paper bag!
I'm deducting a star for the wait I had to endure tonight. Food is still some of the best around.
I am also decreasing my endorsement.

From first glance Smoke Joint looks like the legit part - wooden tables, bbq bar right out on the floor, outdoor "patio" area, two types of homemade bbq sauce out of squeeze bottles (one mild, one spicy), no frills plates weighed down by meats....basically looks like heaven.
Smoke Joint delivers. Not the best bbq by any means, but Smoke Joint knows its bbq and does it damn well. Service is fast and chill, providing a great vibe and a good spot for large parties to come, drink, and leave with stomachs full of smokey tangy bbq.
Couple of beers down, our 2 racks of pork ribs (unfortunately by 9pm they had already ran out of beef ribs), 2 orders of whole chicken, three banked mac and cheeses, couple of hot dogs, cornbread, and cajun fries arrive....wide eyes follow the heaping plates and everything was hot off the grill/oven/microwave etc
The hotdog, least impressive compared to the other bbq items on the table, still provided great eats. A smoked hot dog with nice char, covered in chili and cole slaw (you gotta get cole slaw), ten seconds later was down in my belly. Awesome.
Ribs were fall off the bone good, nice smoke and char, a little dry (but thankfully after dousing it in the spicy bbq sauce, it was not) and 3/4 meaty. The chicken was pretty much the star for me, smoky and juicy, fall off the bone, easy to just pick up and start licking the juices off my fingers (also slather it in bbq sauce).
Okay I lied, the MAC AND CHEESE, I repeat MAC AND CHEESE is ridiculous off the chains, good-as-crack, amazing. I dont even know what goes in it, but I want it every day. Perfect soft shells, smokey cheese, covered in a little bread crumb. Oh yeah, and the cajun fries - pretty much popeye's but better.
One negative for me was the cornbread was unfortunately more like corn loaf/cake - a little too sweet and a little too cake-like texture for me. I like my cornbread dry and very corny. talk about corny jokes.
Overall, the best part of the night was the price. All our food (plus extra ordering as we got more and more drunk) turned out to be about $15 a person. Not bad for tummies full of bbq and beer. Definitely LEGIT
Pull pork sandwhich - yummy!
Chicken wings - delicious!! Taste just like they do coming fresh off of the grill at your weekend backyard BBQ.
The food is no fuss, just straight up good barbeque food. We sat in the patio area and watched all the saturday hustle and bustle of fort greene. Good thing we got such a good seat bc the service took forever. The place is very laid back, so it takes a while to get things done. We weren't bothered but one of the tables next to us left because of the service. So if you're not in a rush and are ok with repeating a few of your requests, I recommend it! The food is good and they have a decent selection of beer. Can't really ask for much more!
*burp*
Full but not crowded on a Wednesday night, had our choice of seating. Wish I could have sat in the window of the colorfully lit porch, but none were to be had. Reasonable service. There *will* be a next time, though!
+ Alternative beverages. Out of habit I ordered a coke and was gently guided to a Boylan's cola....opted for a Doc Brown's black cherry instead. My partner had the limonade. To me it was bitter hell, he rated it "ok." Can't attest to their liquor as neither of us drink.
+ The sides look kinda small but can be shared by 2.
+ Corn on the cob with the rubdown was yummy
+ Mac n Cheese was yummy, was taken for a surprise at first by the chosen pasta, but adjusted and enjoyed very quickly.
+ Coleslaw was surprising too, had a spicy little kick to it. Yummy.
+ Mi amigo got the Crispy Catfish platter. Catfish was good. which was a smaller portion than we expected. Also, teeny tiny side of coleslaw and pickles with that.
+ Cornbread was huge and medium moisture...I enjoyed it. Reasonably priced (a buck) but perhaps it should be smaller and free.
+ I had a half order of baby back ribs... Good sized portion but one bite was dry and the next was heaven, the next bite dry, etc.
Prices were totally reasonable - My friend and I ended up feeling like stuffed pigs for 40+tip.
Next time I'll leave room for pie. :)
To be continued...
Food portion control.
At first glance this place looks not to bad you can smell some BBQ from the outside which is inviting and all so one might thing you are are for a treat for something good.
You sit down on these chairs/seats that feel like im eating in a desert, the tables are close so you are in everyone convo and if the waiter is clumsy he will tip ofver every empty glass on every table b/c there is no where to move or turn so - make sure you travel light to this place.
The food selection i would expect to be a bit better and not so minimal though the prices are not to bad . I ordered pulled pork and calslaw wich came out to like 12 or something which is not to bad. Though in the back of my mind i thought it would be a good portion of everything - size wise.
The plate arived and then i did not want to eat at all, the pate had greese spots all over the edges and the eat was thrown on it like im eating in prison or something. The amount of calslaw they gave one might think they are feeding a child or a baby its like a a tea spoon amount NO JOKE, you get a plate full or meat a teaspoon full of calslaw with a nice chunck of pickle on a side that has so much brine on it you would think the pickle was there since the 1900's.
The sauce is on a table in a squart bottle so you basicly wash your meat in the sauce, other wise the meat is tastles and looks so sad.
I dont want to pay money to eat sauce from a bottle i want my sauce on a dam meat when it cooks with a good portion of a side dish I rather pay 2 more for that than just sit there and be all missrable and see that my food looks sad er than me.
two stars only b.c i was there with a company of ppl who cheered me up from my sad meal.
The "brooklyn wings" seal the deal. A star and a half go directly to them. I don't know how bbq'ing chicken wings makes them brooklyn, but whatever.
One of the only places in NYC where the buffalo wings actually make sense as something us carnivorous moldy-cheese lovers would eat. So I guess their the opposite of Brooklyn wings.
Big as in you dont bite into bone on the first few bites. All white meet. bbq'd well. 2 flavors of bbq dipping sauces. Real skin falls off the way chicken skin should.
Fries - spiced up right nice. BBQ Chickens - cheap and good.
My associate likes the 'dogs.
Ribs, Pulled Pork, and anything else thats not impossable to mess up with: 'meh'. beats Houston st.
Service is crazy disorderly. They put you on hold for like five minutes but place your order immediately when you call back and someone else answers. Delivery guys have it together at least.
We went in there to eat last spring.WAY to hot to sit at a table. So we sat by the kitchen. It took like half an hour to cook us our meat, not even past 3/4 full.
Solid BBQ joint. Pulled Pork Sandwich was delicious. Spicy BBQ sauce was great, sweet sauce not so much.
Their spicy fries were pretty good, but not as good as the one's found at Hickory's in Port Washington.
My main disappointments came in two forms. First off, they have a hot dog that you can order topped with any one of their meats. Being the glutton that I am, I asked if it was possible to get it topped with ALL of their meats. Sadly, they would not oblige me.
Secondly, they don't have any kind of sampler platter. This, or at least a combo platter is standard at most BBQ joints. It gives the patron the opportunity to sample all of a restaurants wares at a reasonable price, and The Smoke Joint is sorely lacking in this respect.
Overall, had a good time, will go there again when in Brooklyn.
Maybe my mistake was not ordering the BBQ, but having just returned from North Carolina and eating my favorite BBQ in the worls (with hush puppies!), I didn't want to set myself up for disappoinment. Best laid plans...
I ordered the catfish. I pointed to the section marked "seafood" on teh menu, and the waitress asked me if I wanted the platter. I guess that was the code word for the sandwich, because that's what I got. I thought maybe I had said something wrong, because by that time our menus were gone, but turns out there is both a sandwich and a platter(?) on the menu. Anyway, the sandwich was very disappointing. Tiny fillets coated in thick cornmeal and fried within an inch of its life. Fillets are then slapped on a dry bun, lackluster cup of spicy mayo on teh side. No onion, or lettuce, or tomoato. Some nice bread and butter pickles and a tiny glob of decent coleslaw on the side. Very disappointing.
My boyfriend's pulled pork sandwich looked OK, but not tantalizing. The beer list is good, I'll give them that, and the prices are very reasonable. I think you just need to lower your expectations and be careful what you order (or just go somewhere else).
The whole place was extrememly hot, and were there on a lovely night. We sat on the porch outside, and the air was absolutely stagnant. Ugh.
My dad and i have our "lunch meetings" here often- and it's definitely the best BBQ in the area. The smoked chicken is so tender and rich in flavor- and the baby back ribs are insane. The corn on the cob is topped with some addictive sauce, scallions and what appears to be a paprika/cayenne pepper mix... and their collared greens and mac n cheese are so divine.
The limeade rocks. And you can then incorporate your water into the limeaid glass to make a meal-long refreshment.
Service with a smile- and such high quality offerings for the price.
Revisiting this Ft Greene eatery, we found that they've expanded their footprint to include a bar. The place was hopping. We were told a table would be a 20-minute wait, so opted for take-out, instead.
The counter told us the pick-up would be a 20-minute wait, which turned out to be more like 40-minutes. Baby-back ribs, smoked beef, collard greens, mac n cheese (my favorite), cornbread.
The food is good, though a trifle pricey. (The above totaled $35). It's very laid back. If you're ravenous, think twice because of the wait. We've gone during off-hours before, which is a bit quicker. Service is nice, but at times they don't look like they have it together behind the counter.
Not the best barbecue I've had in New York but definitely solid on every level.
We showed up at around 8 on a Friday night, and this being a small establishment which does not take reservations, there was a wait for a table. They took down one of our phone numbers and told us they'd call when our table was ready, which was very cool of them.
Once we sat down, the server was with us to take our drink orders almost immediately. Looking at the cocktails list, I was drawn to the Drunken Sow. My first thought was: They named a drink after my ex-wife? (Rimshot!) My next thought was: This combination of bacon-infused vodka, brown sugar, vanilla and bitters sounds delightful. Sadly, they did not have any of the bacon-infused vodka so I had to settle for a different, inferior cocktail which was nonetheless delicious. They also have a decent selection of bottled beer. (I got a Three Philosophers and the other beers were roughly equivalent to that.)
For the sides, I tried the cole slaw (surprisingly light and peppery) and the baked beans (smokey, tangy and full of nice chunks of chorizo and pulled pork). I would definitely order both of these again. We also got a couple orders of spicy Brooklyn Wings, which were meaty and had a very good flavor. I would also order both of these again.
Finally, I had a Black Angus dog topped with chopped beef. With the addition of some of the vinegar-based barbecue sauce, this was excellent. (The tomato-based barbecue sauce was also pretty decent.)
So, there you have it: a bunch of food I liked very much. What sweetens the whole deal is that The Smoke Joint is a veritable bargain. The drinks were $4 or $5 each, the sides $3 and the dog topped with chopped beef a mere $5. A full meal, with sides and appetizers, plus two drinks and a generous tip came in at under $30.
If you are nearby or if the Atlantic Ave subway stop is convenient for you, I would highly suggest you check this place out.
Stopped by for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. The Smoke Joint is a cute little BBQ spot in Ft. Greene. Great area for people watching. The staff was very nice, but a little on the slow side. The food made up for it. I ordered the catfish sandwich, which was fried a little hard for my taste, but it was still good, especially with a side of their baked macNcheese. I also had a dream about their seasoned fries, thats how good they were. I will definitely be back just to have a go at their ribs that I saw someone else greasing on.
We found this place by accident in Fort Greene (we were supposed to go to Havana Outpost but that place was over crowded).
The front room where the bar was, was stifling. So we chose to eat next to the kitchen. I ordered the BBQ Chicken and my fiance ordered the pork ribs. My chicken was really rubbery (which to me - not fresh) but the dry rub was really deliscious. I tried the pork ribs and the meat on the ribs were also extremely dry - very lean meat but very dry.
Our sides were Collard Greens and french fries - the Greens were really good and tasty and the Fries were addictive.
Our alcoholic drinks were made well.
So I am not a connoisseur of dry rubbed bbq but just assumed that bbq is supposed to be like this.
I will defly return since it is a laid back atmosphere and the prices are pretty decent.
the macaroni and cheese from here is amazing. also love the wings and the baby back.
this is a great place to have in the neighborhood and the casual atmosphere makes it especially pleasant to sit inside. prices are pretty low, portions are big. pretty much the perfect neighborhood spot.
Every time I go, there's a wait, but it's worth it. Great food, good service considering how packed they are, overall a great neighborhood place to decide upon when you wonder out loud, "Where do we want to eat tonight?"
Ok, I'm resigned to the high probability that great barbecue can't be had in NYC.
With that said, I lowered my expectations and gave this place another try. I ordered the hack and stack chicken sandwich, and enjoyed the sauce that it came with. It reminded me of the flavor of baked beans with a good dose of honey and brown sugar. The chicken was decent (still dry) and it came with a kaiser bun.
I also tried the corn on the cob, which was mildly sweeter then the one I had over at Habana Outpost the other night. It came slathered with a pinkish mayo sauce. I'd order it again just because I love corn on the cob so much.
...and I gave this place another star.

After being spoiled by Texas barbecue for a few decades, I didn't have high expectations for this… Read more »
They've since expanded to all table service and opened a bar next door since I was last there but the food never disappoints! Personally I go for the pulled pork or chix sammy and I just tried their new spiced-rubbed fries which are like crack. Most sides are worthy too, like the crusty mac n cheese.
A open, airy place to place to enjoy some of the best BBQ in Brooklyn.
This first restaurant I ever worked in was a barbecue restaurant. I knew very little about actual barbecue, but I did know that being able to eat an unlimited amount of ribs, drink beer on the line, and do lines in the walk-in (very important to be sure you're UNDER the FANS) was exactly the kind of thing I wanted to be doing at the time. I was 19. Some things have changed. Some.
Anyway, 3 abusive chefs, 1 second degree burn, 2 chopped off fingertips, untold habanero vodka shots, and 3 girlfriends later, I find myself sitting in The Smoke Joint, my first real barbecue experience since working at previously discussed restaurant.
It's good to judge with a pulled pork sandwich. Pulled pork is simple, and either good or bad.
It's important to pile your coleslaw INTO your sandwich. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either lying or hates you.
So I pile my coleslaw in and chomp away. It is warm, smokey, perfectly prepared. I prefer the North Carolina style, seeped in vinegar-mustard sauce, but a goddamn good piece of smoked pork butt is just that - goddamn good.
Their coleslaw isn't the best. I don't know why. It's actually difficult to make bad slaw.
The waitress was great. I don't know her name, but she has short brown hair and looks athletic. She looks like she lives in Park Slope.
I'm no professional cook anymore, but this barbecue place is pretty fucking good.
It was ....ok.
I had the beef ribs. She had the brisket. We shared some beans, mac & cheese, and corn on the cob.
Our waitress was friendly. But this didn't make the food any tastier. It was like I said eatlier fine. Nothing to sneeze at for sure nor anything to write home about.
I stopped by on Wed night to enjoy BK Restaurant Week. For $23, you get half a BBQ chicken, 4 Ribs, 1 hot link, 2 ears of corn that are sprinkled with a bbq rub, 2 pieces of corn bread, some slaw and pickles. This is for two people.
The service was OK. We had water glasses but no one ever filled them up, but one of my companions took the matter into her own hands and filled up our glasses. They also forgot some things (side of greens) and were out of mac and cheese.
I'd definitely go back.
Very average.
Sure, it's better than Dallas BBQ, but it's not as good as *gasp* Brother Jimmy's. I'll vote for Blue Smoke over The Smoke Joint, also.
The Smoke Joint's chicken was possibly the most overcooked and dried pieces of bird I've ever tasted. It nearly gave me the same chalky/astringent taste/sensation as biting into an unripe Hachiya persimmon.
Okay, so it wasn't *that* bad, but it was dry enough that I had to dunk every fool in the BBQ sauce like my first name is LeBron.
The babyback ribs were all right. I really can't even recall any particular details about it. Like a homeless person asking you for money and then cursing you out when you ignore him.
Oh, but the sides! They were delicious. Mac & Cheese was quite good and the Collard Greens were divine. Yes, it conjured up images of divinity, fudge, and all that good stuff.
Lackluster inaugural meal after years of anticipation. Yes, that means I intend to visit again, but with tempered expectations.
Well. I made it to Smoke Joint for lunch last week, with loverboy in tow.
I knew I wanted mac + cheese and greens.
It took him a while to decide, but the waitress was nice and patient.
He ordered a caesar salad and a pulled pork sandwich. The salad is a waste of money. A plate of lettuce (I don't even think it was romaine) and a teaspoon of boring ass caesar dressing. We asked for more dressing, and our server brought out everything... more croutons, a little bowl of shaved parmesean cheese, lots of dressing. I thought that was nice of her. I tried to jazz it up by adding the tiniest bit of hot sauce too. It was still quite boring. I ended up eating most of it. He doused his sandwich in smoky bbq sauce. Said the meat was tender and cooked well.
My spicy greens were great but I wish my mac and cheese had been slightly creamier, a larger portion, browned a little bit more on top. I liked the corn on the cob, covered in smoky aioli and scallions - even though they could've eased up on the aioli.
The interior was nice enough. Clean. Servers were very friendly. Our waitresskept the cold water coming, which was great because I never shook the heat from outside.
While I liked my food, I just can't give it 4 stars. For a place I kept hearing so much about, I was underwhelmed, but that's the way it goes. It's the same situation as Peaches (owned by the same folks). The food is good but not special.
Yummy! We tried this place after the Ft. Greene flea market and like others have noted, yet the service/seating is a bit disjointed, but they were friendly enough and the food was very good. I got a pulled-pork sandwich that came w/o sauce, so I loaded up that pile of tender meat with the squeeze bottle of BBQ sauce provided. The homemade pickles and spicy coleslaw that accompanied were also great. For $7.50 and a load of meat, it was definitely very reasonable and super filling.
The only sad point was the BBQ beans, which basically tasted like Liquid Smoke - wayyyy too smoky. I didn't try any other sides, but the Mac & Cheese and corn looked well worth it, so I have an excuse to return.
When it's warm out, they have a giant wall/window that will open up, so the whole restaurant feels a bit outdoorsy.
Megan and I have been meaning to get here for some time, since it's just a block or two from BAM. We were starving and over-ordered a bit (wings, pulled pork and beef, smoky collard greens, and potato salad), but everything was pretty great. The wings were meaty, the pork and beef perfectly seasoned (served dry with the sauce on the side), and we thought we weren't going to be able to finish our sides. We did. We'll definitely be back for another pre- or post-BAM meal, especially now that the G-train goes all the way to 7th avenue in Park Slope now.
Three things:
1. Be prepared to wait. Even when the line looks short, it takes a sweaty 15 minutes to make your way to the cashier. And that's just to order.
2. Try the hot dog. Might not be your first BBQ go-to, but it offers a nice dog-ternative to your normal street fare.
3. 'Side' it up. I'd have no problem skipping the 'cue completely for a nice big tub of their mac-and-cheese. Or beans. Or cornbread. Excuse me. I need a moment.
For my 200th review, i wanted it to be something special, but alas those plans went to pot...
The double entendre "Smoke Joint" is clever-ish but it really takes on a certain level of reality when you experienced the - how shall i say it - HIGH quality staff...
This place must use wacky tobacky to season the staff-meal, because this is like a cheech and chong skit in a restaurant...
I walk in and indicate the front window which is open to the breeze and empty except for one guy waiting for someone.
Waitress: "takeout?"
Me: "No" *indicating by pointing "i'd like to sit here"
Waitress "to go?"
Me: "no i'll eat in"
Waitress "oh you wanna eat here" (WTF is thsi new to her?!)
Me: "yeah"
Waitress "ok sit wherever"
*sit and order the "HOT LINKS smoked and grilled spicy pork sausage topped with sauteed bell peppers" and a side of fries*
*food arrives SANS PEPPERS*
Me: "oh hey, doesn't this come with sauteed peppers"
Waitress "why, you want some"
Me: "yeah that's be good, thanks"
Waitress: *hands me the salt and pepper*
Me: "no bell peppers it's supposed to come with them"
Waitress returns with slices of fresh bell peppers
Me: *grumble* clearly Dave is not here
*i'm chewing the last bite of the sandwich (which was good and smokey - a little dry but they have sauce on the table so it was GOOD) and literally as i swallow the last bite*
Waitress "you want a box for those fries..." (a nearly complete order still) "..and the check"
I had a 3/4 full beer, and half an order if fries (which are AMAZING by the way) at 2pm on a Monday in a nearly empty restaurant...
Now i don't know if she was annoyed that she understood the menu less well than the kitchen...or if i had that business-man-on-a-quick-lunch (i don't) or the octogenarian-going-to-the-pre-show-pre-fix (nope) look, but she was pushing me out......WTF
She drops the check and is sweet as pie so i don't think it's an annoyance thing. and returns three seconds later to take the empty check away....
Returns and drops the check again.
Just odd service - the food was actually very good, it's like the Bizarro Brother Jimmy's
BJs Food = 4 Service = 10 Hooters Factor = 8

My bad for being too lazy to make my boyfriend dinner.
Dropped into smoke joint to grab some takeout. 30 mins after I ordered they told me that they were out of the corn that I had ordered 30 MINUTES AGO. They refunded me the money for the corn, but my order still wasn't ready. At minute 40, they told me they "found some corn." Then they re-charged me for it. Really? You prob should just throw in the "found corn."
So I waited 45 min for some hacked chicken, hot links, mac and cheese, and corn that was ICE COLD when i got home. I live across the street from the smoke joint, so I was not traveling far.
Sorry to be a hater, but this place sucks.
This place is a lot like paris hilton. Its cheap, smokey, and full of meat all of the time. The Collard Greens are like a spicy mouth massage and the pulled pork sandwich and a local beer are the full release.
Take out sometimes can take a while,
but sitting and enjoying a beer takes all the stress away.
Sometimes you will even be lucky enough to see someone crazy walking down the street screaming into his hat about how the legos took his mother as you devour your dinner.
All in all, way worth it.
Dry dry dry dry meat - and dirty x 5. Our plates were still dirty from someone else's bbq sauce when our waiter brought them to us. He tried to find new plates for us - came to us 5 times with dirty plates. He finally said that he would wash them himself...
Food was sub-par and incredibly slow. Even drowning the meat in their bbq sauce didn't help. Good luck if you choose to ignore this review.
brooklyn wings flavor was best. pulled pork had great flavor, could've been just a little less dry. delicious pickles/cole slaw. baby back ribs were decent.
laidback spot, service is probably hit-or-miss
I had you last night and now I can't stop thinking about you. This isn't just infatuation. This is REAL. My friends even had a good time hanging around you and they're picky as hell. You are something special.
I think I love you,
Lynn
PS. I can't wait to be inside you again *wink*
I'm new to BBQ, but the food we got here was fantastic and melts in your mouth.
I have to agree with everyone that the waitstaff is very scattered, very nice, but very scattered. We had to ask them for everything, menus, check, etc.
I am a southern girl so I am usually unimpressed by barbecue and sweet tea in New York-- Even though the barbecue was not the best I have ever had, the barbecue fries were to die for, and the drinks were absolutely delicious. I tried a sip of the root beer barrel bourbon and it was super yummy. The Smoke Joint is fun, laid back, and a great place to go on a lazy Saturday or Sunday. The catfish sandwich is tasty.
