I tried perhaps the most creative combination I've ever had in a burger last night when I had the Crispy Poached Egg Burger.  It was a deliciously juicy burger covered with melted gruyere, drizzled with truffle mayo, and an egg that was poached, breaded, and then fried.  The different textures played off each other from the crispness of the breading and the soft egg inside, the perfectly cooked burger and toasty bun.  It was pure heaven.  To top it off, the dessert of pumpkin pecan pie with fresh whipped cream was incredible.  The only gripe I had the whole night was the salad that accompanied the burger had a balsamic vinaigrette which was lacking in flavor.  I should have got the fries and stole a few off my boyfriend's plate.

I should also mention that my BF eats a lot of veggie burgers and he said none rivals the Vegetarian SOB burger with chipotle mayo.  There is also a tofu-tempeh sloppy joe on the menu that looked good.

The service was excellent, and although it's a bit loud in there, it's very comfortable.  Also their choice of soul and funk music was cool.

Last night it was raining and I was in search of a great burger to satiate my craving.  We walked the streets of Philly, visiting Good Dog and Ten Stone which were packed with customers drinking and eating.  I am so glad they were because Sidecar was worth every penny and totally hit the spot.

One of my favorite spots and although I do not live really close, I always try to find times to go here. I love their food, everything is delicious, they have great happy hour specials, and it's cozy inside and out!

Can't beat the fact that you can go with a large group and get seating outside on nice days!

It's good for lunch, brunch, dinner and late night. I always enjoy my visits here.

Looking forward to seeing what they do with the expansion.

Delicious beer.  Good atmosphere.  And the good probably ends there for me...

My experience with the food and service left a lot to be desired.  Being that I'm a big believer in letting owners know when I've had a bad experience (How can they fix what they don't know about??), I called and left him a message.  He got back to me super fast which was awesome and he seemed like a pretty cool dude and totally proud of his amazing food -- and I totally have a soft spot for Foodies.

After honestly listening about my dissatisfaction with their ability to make items vegan or "to order," the shitty experience I had, and the way that the bartender talked to me about all of that, he apologized and told me that I'll need to be more prescriptive in my ordering in the future and sincerely asked me what I wanted him to do.  Don't hate me for saying this, but here's the typical man-woman argument.  I don't want to have to tell you HOW to make my burrito tasty or that you should buy me a drink to make up for it!  I want you to know!  So, I'm sorry, Sidecar.  We have to break up.  This just won't work right now because you just don't understand my needs.

Maybe we'll both be in a different place in some distant time in the future and we can try this whole thing again.  Just try not to break my heart next time.  (Because the way to my heart is totally through burritos and beer!)

sheesh Sidecar, look at all your reviews. You can tell this place is as popular in real life as it is on Yelp. I admit that my original reason for coming here was the name since my fave cocktail happens to be a Sidecar and i thought they might make a good one here. Cheesy but true.  I ended up going to the monthly High Gravity event and joint was definitely jumpin. Being of Russian heritage I had to try the Rasputin which was like a stout. Very filling. But the food is what made me happy. The carnitas were so good they made a pork lover out of my pork virgin nice jewish girl soul.

Crowded and loud are two things that usually turn me off but this was a jovial type of crowded loud. some guy was sitting at a table surfing the internet on his laptop. The DJ was good, I've no idea how they fit that dude behind the bar. The bartender was really cute. There were many cute boys there. Always a + for us single ladies...

Oh Sidecar - my summer '09 go-to American gastropub.

In the midst of a neighborhood slowly growing an amazing selection of pubbery, Sidecar definitely ranks right up there with the best of em.

While the change in chef about a month or two ago seemed to me a blow to the previously solid and much more well rounded menu, the phenomenally honest and friendly bartenders/servers remain, as does the generally awesome music (Fela night being, of course, the highlight).  I was most disappointed to lose the rotating mussel preparation, as the Red Thai Curry mussels were, I think, the best in the city (which is saying a lot when Monks and Eulogy are in the picture).

The beer list is generally interesting (it introduced me to Duck Rabbit, now one of my favorite American brewers), if not expansive, and rotates at a good pace.  This will be my first winter with Sidecar, and unfortunately the somewhat cold and metallic interior already seem slightly less appealing, so Sidecar might be in hibernation for me until spring.  But come March - I'm diving straight back in.

Oh Sidecar how I love thee. Even though Sidecar is only a block away from me - it has easily become one of my favorite spots in the city. I've found that Sidecar is the perfect place for any situation. I've gone there after work to chill outside with my laptop and beer, I've taken my parents there for a killer brunch and I've gone to after one beer too many with my pals to split a few beer samplers between us.

Sidecar's menu has gone through a few revamps in the time since I started going there, but they've seemed to really master their menu now. I am a big fan of the Carnitas, that are $4 a piece and you can order as many as you want - 3 is enough for a fill up for me. One of the best things isnt on the menu - its their brunch specials. I've been there about 6 times for brunch and every time I go I always get a special and every time left very very pleased. Two of these times they featured grits - and I never thought i would say this..but I am a giant fan of grits now.

Sidecar also has a great rotating selection of drafts. My recommendation is to get the beer sampler x 2. One sampler has 4 beers but they always have 8 on draft...and you gotta try them all (even if one is PBR - yeah its happened - love me some ribbon).

The staff at Sidecar is always very awesome with the clientele and almost every time I'm there or even driving to work at 8am - I see the owner Adam doing something for that place - he is dedicated.

Next time you are in pseudo-south philly check out Sidecar and you'll leave happy if not for the food, service, beer or awesome music - the "Be Nice or Leave" sign behind the bar always makes me smile.

Just went here for drinks after dinner.  Nice spot to have some good beers.  Really great beer selection, of course.  It's a pretty small space. When we arrived, at maybe 11-11:30 on a Friday seats were all taken.  But we all found seats soon.  Music seemed a bit loud for how chill everyone was.  I felt like I had to yell to talk to my friends.  But that's a minor point.  I hear the food is really good so I'll come back to try that sometime and perhaps bump it up to 5, if deserved.

I've been to the Sidecar several times now, and the food never disappoints.  The only thing that is lacking is the service... it takes a little while to get your food, but if you're not in a big hurry the Mac and Cheese and Bean Burger are well worth the wait.   I can also recommend the wings, carnitas, nachos...  I have yet to have brunch there, but the menu looks fantastic.  During the warm months, they have seating outside.  It can get crowded inside, so get there early.

With practically no other yelpworthy bar in the area, Sidecar is an oasis in the middle of the desert.

You can't really call the food "bar food," because it's way more sophisticated than that (pork carnitas, hello, call me sometime) and it ranges from various cuisines...though I always notice a strong cajun influence.  The staff is friendly and helpful, the bar features an impressive, fully stocked display of all the mandatory spirits, and even though their focus is craft beer, they don't skimp on the cocktails. Last I saw it, their cocktail menu seemed fleshed out and not haphazardly thrown together.

You can tell the folks here really care about all the elements of their spot. Beer, fantastic. Cocktails, just as good. Food, outdoes itself. It's always buzzing with locals and I'm not surprised why.

If you're a fan of Good Dog, you'll probably like this place too.

Let me begin with the caveat that my exuberance for this establishment may be due to the fact that my only visit thus far was on an evening which included:

(1) original Dead vinyl; and

(2) a Terrapin Brewing Co. event--beers so good that when my college roommate recently came up from Ga., I begged him to bring me a 4-pack of Depth Charge Porter.

Bearing those facts in mind, I am a huge fan of Sidecar & will definitely be returning on some future high gravity beers night or other occasion for these reasons, not limited to:

(1) the fantastic black bean burger, which could end up being my favorite in the city once I've tried it again slightly more sober.  Still, it looked good enough and I lobbied for it well enough that my friend Flynn, by no means a veggie guy, ordered his own;

(2) they are a great beer bar if the Terrapin event is any indication;

(3) especially compared to my recent experience at The Institute, they manage a high volume of customers well; and

(4) the crowd seems like a good mix from the neighborhood and just generally cool people.

Great joint for some craft brews.  They know their beer and they have some good ones that you can't find most other places.

But that's just the beginning.  Good tunes, friendly service, and great happy hour (3-7 and again midnight to 1:30) make this place stand out from the other good beer spots.  What really made this place special for me, though, was pretty simple: my order of chicken fingers (which were delicious) came with a side salad.  Maybe you don't think that's a big deal.  And it's true that it's not difficult to toss some mixed greens in dressing and throw them on a plate.  But that's the sort of thing that's above and beyond what's expected, and it's a good indication of how things are done there.

my first experience here...
Definitely liked the vibe/atmosphere. It was really crowded for a wednesday night so you know  the place has to be good.
I had a Pumkin ale, my 1st one ever, and I think I found my new beer love. To eat I ordered the angus burger with cheddar, bacon and mushrooms which cooked just right (medium) juicy, flavorful and huge

definitely will be back here

My pop and I make it a point to go out at least once a week for dinner.  Sometimes we are go extravagant, others it pizza, but latey we have been a burger and fried food kick.  I just moved into this neighborhood and I see this spot everyday on my way to work and we decided to come here.

It didn't disappoint.  Service was really good, I think I had a mixed drink for $3.50 which is unreal and the total bill came to less than $35 for two of us.  The food.... Burger was good (not great), fries were good, hush puppies good, onion rings good.  I give it a four for service and drink.  I burger is just missing something, can't put my finger on it but something was lacking.

I've been to Sidecar a handful of times, none of which were at all displeasing.  It was my most recent trip, however, that really poked me someplace naughty (and by naughty, i mean nice).

Brunch at Sidecar is AWESOME.  Here are the top 3 reasons I say this:  (1) your delicious cup of coffee comes on a little plate, atop a little napkin and right next to a little cookie.  Any place which gives me a cookie (for free!) without asking me is BOMB.  (2) The food was not only really, really good (I had a breakfast burrito), but there was PLENTY of it.  The entree came with awesome potatoes and a small amount of greens tossed in a small amount of vinegar-y joy.  (3) The mash-up of people that hang out here is not only unique, but it's also very engaging.  Never a dull moment!

The only issue that I can find with Sidecar is the space, or lack thereof.  It's always a tight squeeze.  We were essentially dining with complete strangers at brunch.  So, if you're a bit of an introvert, this might not be the spot for you.

In the Sidecar for their High Gravity event this week.  Place was packed when we arrived about 5:30 and only proceeded to get busier as the night went on.  Its pretty loud because of that, it's only a small place and everything tends to get amplified up.

We didn't eat, so I'll have to leave the reviews on the food aspect for another time but everything looked pretty good.  The beer selection was excellent, and given what was on tap, pretty fairly priced.  Between 3 of us, we had 7 beers, all stronger than 7% (and one up at 15%).  Bill came to $44, can't really argue with that.

The wait staff were efficient and very friendly.  They also gave good sass when one friend asked if they had anything lower in alcohol.  I do like some good sass.

Recommended.  Am making a trip to eat here a priority over the next few weeks.

I'm a big fan of brunch, and now a huge fan of Sidecar B&G!  I met a friend there, and we sat at the bar and thoroughly enjoyed the friendly bartenders and excellent service. We had awesome Bloody Mary's (just the right spice and seasonings) and both enjoyed the oh' so tasty crab & tomato omelet, which happened to compliment the Bloody Mary quite nicely.

The place had a really great vibe too and I'm looking forward to experiencing it at night sometime.

For now, I think i found my new favorite brunch spot in the city!

The Sidecar feels like home - the atmosphere is relaxed, and the staff is friendly and responsive.  And that's why I love it.

First of all, the beer selection is stellar.  From the drafts to the bottles to the cans, there's something for everyone.  An excellent list of specialty drinks doesn't hurt, either, though when I'm here, it's all about the beer.

Take for instance, what I think will be their monthly High Gravity Night.  It's as dangerous as it sounds.  For a night, everything on draft is above 9.0/abv.  Thursdays feature specials on Abita beers.  And the music is ALWAYS good - funk and soul are the highlights.

The turkey burger is delish - so are the fries, the nachos, and their brunch selections.  Though brunch isn't my favorite time to come here - or any place, for that matter - it's a bit too crazy for the service to keep up.

Hopefully their fight with the neighborhood to expand will go through - with additional floors, performance space, and a proposed roof deck, this place is gonna get serious.

Sidecar is the corner bar of one of my coworkers/friends.  He's always talking about how great the food and drink selections are and how awesome the staff is.

On Friday of last week, I finally got to see for myself what all the buzz was about.  On approach, the bar looks like an oasis at night, with tables lining the two streets of this corner property.  Inside the bar it was dim and comfortable and the staff welcomed my friend by name.  I got to meet the owner and my friend's favorite bartender, both of whom couldn't have been nicer or more attentive, even though it was crazy busy.

He had the stone black ipa and i had the heavy weisen.  Two very different beers, but both super tasty and ones I doubt I would've been able to find on tap at any of my other watering holes.

I chose the chili from the menu even though I wasn't really hungry.  It was absolutely delicious!  It was the perfect blend of sweet and spicy and I downed almost all of it despite my lack of appetite.  A couple points off for stale chips, but I really didn't want to eat those anyway.  :)

I wish I was anywhere near the GH area so I could have an excuse to go here more often!  After having gone here, I'm extremely jealous that I don't have a cool corner bar to frequent.

Side car is relaxed. Its the perfect place to go on a Sunday morning for brunch or at night to have a drink. All of the staff is friendly and the menu has a good variety of tasty food. I recently went there for breakfast and had an excellent breakfast burrito! Perfecting cooked eggs! Fun outside seating.

I love how its off the beaten path but still a really solid establishment. GOOD JOB!

Overall I'm middle ground on Sidecar. It definitely offered fantastic food and had a great assortment of alcohol and beer on tap (at least for that day). it was also quite huge and had a diverse mix of patrons. But the good of the place was significantly hampered by wonky service and some of the dim and dingy aesthetics of the bar.

I've been curious about giving Sidecar a try forever, so when my dining partner and I decided to eat in South Philly after viewing Shakespeare's Land Of The Dead at Plays & Players it became our immediate destination. Upon arriving we found out that they were hosting Avery for Philly Beer Week and that all of their wonderful beers were on tap for the night, so that was another selling point. We walked in and pulled into the last available table only to find out that it was scratched up and movable in places that it shouldn't have been. It was so beat up and crippled that I affectionately dubbed it Rickety Cricket after my favorite It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia character.

Upon being greeted by our server I asked her what was on tap for the day only to have her unceremoniously point to a chalkboard. Really? It's a special occasion where your hosting a craft brew and offering a selection of beers on tap that you don't typically serve and you can't even tell one person what they are? On top of that the chalkboard she pointed to was directly to the back left of me and their were two other patrons sitting directly in front of it. So in other words it was excruciatingly impossible for me to read! But I guess I'll just careen my neck directly into the back of someones skull so I can tell you what I'll have to drink.

Finally my dining partner was barely able to catch a glimpse of the word Farmhouse so that's what we decided on. I ordered a Reuben which was perfectly mouth watering in all of it corned beef and Thousand Island glory. It also came with a perfect portion of fries and a good sized pickle. My dining partner really enjoyed her turkey burger and it had an equal portions of fries. We finished our plates and drained our glasses only to find that our server was MIA. after waiting a few minutes with empty plates on our table another bartender finally made his way around to take our drink order. When it came time for us to settle out our server was making her rounds, but she wasn't making them over to us, so it got to the point where we had to flag someone else down at the bar to settle out our tab. It's pretty lame when three different people have to help out with three basic steps of service.

I want to say that I caught them on a bad day,and a busy one at that since it was Beer Week. And us sitting at Rickety Cricket was proof of how crowded it was. So I would be right on the money. But I went to Devil's Den (review coming later) and saw how a good bar executes good service on a packed Beer Week Day. And the majority of hang ups during service that Sidecar had were so basic that they were pretty inexcusable. I did see the potential in the place though. And I do like the sound of their brunch, and the Zappa theme dinners that they do with Lagunitas Brewing Co. So I might just be foolish enough to give them another try.

My first Sidecar experience was good; not stellar, but I'm eager to go back next time I'm nearby.

I enjoyed sitting outside, even though the tables are a bit close together and the signs conveying "Shush, neighbors are sleeping" made me nervous.

I hear that the beer selection is great, but the chalkboard was unreadable in the dark, and hearing the server rush through the list just isn't the same. I know it kills trees, but I love printed beer lists. Use recycled paper; it will be fine!

The jambalaya was outstanding and actually quite spicy. The jumbo sized cornbread (with some kind of honey-ish topping) was the perfect side.

Plenty of food to take home, plenty of money left in the wallet, plenty more beers to come back and try.

Oh yeah!! Sidecar Bar is riding high on my favorites list! The burgers are great and its mere blocks from my house!! I took my friend from Jersey to Sidecar and he instantly fell in love! He's not a beer guy so he couldn't enjoy their eclectic and satisfying beer selection, but he really enjoyed the food! Two days straight we went for late lunch after a great bike ride. Their burgers are like the burgers you see in movies that look so delicious that you run to the nearest burger joint to get a bite!! no need to run, Sidecar Bar is 4 blocks from my house and I am so happy about that! I am a Ji-Normus FAN OF SIDECAR BAR!!!

I went here with a group of 6 for a late lunch this weekend.  The staff was incredibly accommodating, and moved tables around to seat our party - especially considering how tiny the whole place is, they went out of their way to make room for us.

I'd describe this place as an interesting combination of a diner and a bar.  Relaxed, casual feel of a diner, plus a fully-stocked bar with an interesting selection of beers, and it seemed like it would be a fun late-night spot, too.  Again, the staff was huge here - they let us sample several of the beers on tap before we made a decision which one to go for.

The food definitely did not disappoint - 4 of us went with burgers, each different - they were totally okay with us making substitutions, and each burger came out cooked exactly as requested (there was actually a notable difference even in the medium well vs medium vs medium rare). Plus each burger came with tasty fries and some greens.  The other two split the nachos which were piled high with toppings, especially cheese (that alone is worth a star!), and an order of onion rings.  We tried the side of corn bread - came out warm with some butter, and an extra ingredient we were trying to figure out the whole lunch. The corn bread was possibly the best part.  Or wait, maybe my burger was...I don't know, it was all the best part!

All in all, I would definitely go back, I just wish I was in this part of town more often, although, this may be worth making a special trip.  Definitely want to explore the menu more next time, too.

I went to the Sidecar Bar for the first time today, and I had a pretty good experience. The server approached us immediately when we sat down to take our drink order and give us menus. I guess I came on a good day, because their tap list was really great. Included were the Bell's Cherry Stout, the Southern Tier Unearthly IPA (one of my personal favorites), Founder's Breakfast Stout (amazing), the Avery 15 (sounds better than it is, unfortunately), and the Smuttynose Smuttonator (which our waiter said was a Belgian ale, but is actually a Doppelbock). I wonder if the waiter was new, because he seemed a little all over the place. However, he did manage to get our orders correct at least. The beers, although delicious, came in tiny glasses for $6. They definitely could have been $1 or $1.50 cheaper.

My turkey burger was a little on the dry side, but spicy and pretty flavorful, although it needed salt. The fries were pretty good, but I was trying to avoid them. I split cornbread with my boyfriend, and it was nowhere near as good as Good Dog's. I thought that, overall, the food was just okay. I tried the macaroni and cheese that my roommate and my boyfriend both got, and it was pretty bland. It had potential to be good, but it lacked that delicious mac-and-cheese flavor and needed salt (seems to be a running theme).

The server came back often to check on things and returned quickly with refills and additional drinks. I thought the service was good, except for the misinformation about the beer (really, he should know the styles of the beers they serve). I want to give the Sidecar three-and-a-half stars overall, but because of the okay food and the pricey beer, it really doesn't deserve a four.

Best bar in Philly. Their food is AMAZING! The burgers are awesome and brunch is killer. I go there a lot. A lot! And I have never had a bad meal at Sidecar.

The beer list is really good too. Try some new stuff or stick with your favorites. But the folks there will help you out.

Honestly, if the place was a little bigger, I'd have nothing bad to say. But sometimes it's a bit cramped in there. That's okay, it's seriously worth it.
SIDECAR RULES!!!

I used to live a couple blocks from Sidecar. I gave this place 3 chances and every single time I was put off. The service is so bad that it inspires jokes all night long. I've had to ask for a different server before. Think McGlinchies's service but you can't smoke inside, it's not a dive bar, and the bad service is being doled out by some snotty college kid who is NOT a lovable character. I can't get over how places like this exist. I mean who wants to pay to be treated like shit?

The food is ok. South Philly Taproom is WAAAAAY better, has better food, a better beer selection, it costs the same price, and the people who work there don't act like they hate you. I lived a couple blocks from Sidecar and I would rather walk an extra 7 blocks through a sketchy neighborhood and risk getting mugged to go to a better bar.

Don't take groups or you will be embarassed. I've had to apologize to the group that I took to Sidecar. It's that bad. Oh, and Sidecar has absolutely NO atmosphere, either. The only redeeming quality it has it that you can sit outside when it's nice out...but you're sitting outside on 22nd and Christian and you're getting hassled by rapping bums who smell like ass and won't leave you alone.

I never leave one-star reviews but this place is crap. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!

Although I don't use Citysearch anymore, I used to frequently check out their top ten lists. The Sidecar consistently hung onto the list of best brunch spots in the city. It took me far too long to eat here and realize this place definitely deserves the distinction.

Tim  and I brunched Saturday afternoon, right around noon, and the place wasn't crowded at all. It's a great spot and I like the setup of the bar and tables. Overall, it had nice atmosphere. The service was excellent. It seemed like all of the workers split tips and each chip in to bus all of the tables. Generally, this works out best for the workers and customers, and we received great service the whole time we were there.

The beer selection was excellent. While not extensive (7 or so beers on tap), The Sidecar managed to provide a range of great beers that are not easily found elsewhere in the city. I had the Sixpoint Sweet Action, an American blonde ale, and I loved it. Both Tim and I felt that our beers were served too cold, and mine came in a frosted glass. Minus two points. Further, the beer prices were not advertised at the bar or on the menu. They may have all been $5 (both of ours were) but I thought that was a weird way to (not) advertise.

Overall, our meals were delicious. As with the beer, The Sidecar has a great selection, and also provides enough vegetarian options to please. The brunch menu consists of variations on a few themes: poached eggs, panini, and breakfast burrito all made with a variety of ingredients. They were quite accommodating about me wanting to mix it up. Beyond breakfast, there's a great selection of lunch food. Portions were perfect, enough to fill me up, and nothing more. I had a sharp cheddar and mushroom panini with home fries and was completely satisfied.

Bottom Line: The Sidecar is a great brunch spot. It seems like a great bar, too, but I haven't evaluated that yet. I wish it was closer to my house, but I will still make it out here again in the near future.

This is a nice corner spot near me that I like to go to with my friends after class for drinks or some weekends for brunch. The vibe is good here. Decent brew selection, the mixed cocktails are moderately priced, and the music is usually decent, albeit a little loud at times.

On Fridays, a DJ spins. I only know this guy as Crazy Cabby but it wasn't bad. The happy hour is decent but I don't usually stop in if the place is slamming. Now with the nice weather, there is seating outside and the wait is less. I am always pleased with the service and never feel rushed.

A friend of mine had a birthday party here once and the group nearly filled the entire place and they didn't seem to mind. I suppose it didn't hurt that we were all steadily marinating in the delicious nachos and drinks. However, the chill attitude speaks volumes.

Despite the six block distance, this is as close to a neighborhood spot that I'm going to get. A great step in the right direction for this neighborhood and I'm sure it will only be a matter of time that more places like these will spring up closer to Washington Avenue.

So, come here for brunch, happy hour and with a group of friends. Especially now that you can sit outside with your friends and your pooch if you like.

Now that I'm no longer dating the loser from my first review, I feel like I can give a slightly less emotionally biased review of the Sidecar.  I still love it.  In fact, I think I love it even more.

It can get crowded, but you can usually find a place, here. But, if it's anywhere near busy it will be loud. This place gets very loud. But, it's worth it.  The food is really good.  They also have a great beer selection that is constantly changing. To add to the appeal of the beer selection, it is a very relaxed and comfortable place at night to go and hang out with friends.

Even though the last time I was there the waitress I had a was a complete moron I'm still going to give this place 5 stars.  The bartenders here are all really awesome.  They will get you super effed up.  It's a good time.  The high gravity night was a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to the next one.  They had a keg of Kentucky Breakfast Stout for it.  That alone is impressive and shows how awesome they are.  The draft and bottle list are always incredible.  They have hop slam in bottles which is almost next to impossible to find.  The best part about all of that is that it is cheap here.  The hop slam bottles I was speaking of are only $6.  I know it sounds like a lot, but it really isn't at all.  I suggest this bar to anyone that wants to have a good time, drink good beer, and not break the bank.

I just moved into the area and heard so much about Sidecar that I decided to give it a try. Why not, it's really close by! We had nachos, mussels and calamari. The calamari came with this sauce that tasted a little bit of bbq with tomato sauce, unusual but very good. The mussels were great and unique with tomatoes and salami. I thought the decor was quaint and welcoming and can definitely picture myself going back and bringing friends along. They had a great selection of beer, not just your typical miller lite/coors/bud. yuck. I think it would be great if they expanded.  Will need to go back for brunch!

a classy menu. a wide selection of beers. not too big. not cramped either. a friendly serving staff. dark and edgy but not a dive. not much else in the general area as far as bars go. but don't let that fool you. sidecar is one of the best in the city. it's on a corner and has an alley behind it. what more needs to be said?

Yeah, this place sucks my dill hole.  Please to ignore my previous review.

Babygirl, I got love for you.  You're my kind of place.  The lady bartender had tats all over her hands and I kind of just wanted to give her a kiss for reminding me of SF.  It ain't no Zeitgeist, but the bloody mary reminded me of happier times.  Also, the breakfast potatoes kind of kicked ass!  That's what I'm talking about.

The chorizo breakfast sandwich could use some help.  It needs some kind of condiment on there to really make it pop, but that said it was still alright.  And I was digging on the obscure oldies that folks seemed to be singing right along to.  On a Sunday morning, of all things.  Major props.

It still isn't a real dive and I wish it could be grodier with a little bit of an endearingly shitty attitude, but I guess those just aren't that easy to come by here.  I'll take what they're dishing up in the meantime.

Oh, I should also mention that I am literally dying for their black bean burgers.  During a recent drunken brainstorming session I decided that black bean burgers are going to be the next great thing in hipster dining, and I love that they are way ahead of me!

My favorite bar in this neighborhood.  As someone said "an oasis in the middle of the desert. Great brunch. Good music. Always a beer worth drinking on the list. Has a fun nighttime vibe.

Ah Sidecar...My new favorite beer spot. I go for happy hour when they run half price nacho's and carnita's. Neither are true to form Mexican, but both are decent adaptations and worth the $2.00 to $4.00. I like a little munch-munch when I'm sipping my great American microbrews. The only beer this bar serves is from the good ol' US of A. you get a few cool points for that. They have an great selection of micro brews from across the country and I believe they carry at least 1 cask beer. I love to make my bartender work for my tip. Beer from the cask also has its own special quality to it... My finace had the black bean burger and liked it. From what I hear the rest of their food is good too.
3.5 stars for atmosphere, 3.5 stars for good pub food (not a gastropub) 4 stars for good beer menu. 3.75 total stars, but this time I'll round up. The bartender is a little sassy.. just the way I like it.

+ Scrumtulescent blueberry waffles were had.

- An hour was waited for their magnificence to be delivered to my grumbling stomach.

+ They were perfect in crispiness and texture, but could have used more blueberry and some whipped cream (-).
+ The honey butter was a nice touch, but didn't complement the waffles as well as I wanted it to (-).

- My Mimosa was tiny for the $6 I paid for it.

~ Our server was harried, but not rude.  It was obvious that the brunch rush was getting to him, though.  Or maybe he was just hungover.  Hard to tell.

~ I wasn't too keen on the decor and am baffled as to why other yelpers describe it as cute, when i'd describe it as "diner-esque."

It's a decent place, more trendy than anything else.  The food is worth returning for, but I wish the service and ambiance were a little better.  Overall, my experience was good but not great.
