Went here for a private event and  I have to be honest, I had low expectations.  I mean, it's in a movie theater.....  Wow, I actually had fun and am planning on going back for dueling piano night.  Since the private event was really specific, this will be a short review.  I'll update after piano night.  Oh, they also have karaoke nights too.  Also, as others have mentioned, food was great!

what an awesome idea...a bar with great service right above the theater...now you can get yourself all sauced up before you go to the movies, or after.

Right inside the AMC Van Ness 1000 you would never expect a bar, much less a very fun one. I'm giving Showroom a very generous 4 stars.

I went here with about ten friends when it first opened and to make a long story short we had a situation where they asked us for our cards before we got food and drink to place an order. I found that very odd. Needless to say some members of my party felt insulted and we left. I am of a level-headed mentality and wasn't upset but I could see why my friends felt insulted.

I felt the space and idea were cool so as one of the the social chairs for the SF tri team decided to hold our happy hour at Showroom. About 50+ showed and it was a good time. I was nervous they would treat us the same way we were treated when I was with my friend. Not at all. The bartenders were funny and attentive, got us our happy hour specials and it all worked out.

One suggestion I have is that when someone says they are coming in with 50+ people and the bar is new and looking for clientele I would definitely pay more attention to return phone calls and emails. I contacted the staff for details around setting up a happy hour and responses were either slow or not detailed and sometimes my emails/calls were ignored. In the end it worked out but I would put some more care in catering to large parties, particularly when the place is getting started. I've done this quite a bit and usually the manager (who was present, and I knew this because we complained to him the first time we went there) comes up to the organizer of a big group and asks if everything went well. My answer would have been yes and I would have said everything that is in my review as an FYI.

The event ended up being a lot of fun and we enjoyed the happy hour prices and the $4 happy hour burger as well as the staff. I liked the Dueling Pianos. Both guys were fun and got our group going. It was slow once our group left at 8pm but with a large group this would be a blast to do all night.

It really is a great space, has parking, great happy hour and is close to public transportation so has a lot of potential. It could easily be a 5 star review with a little work.

Props to the Dueling Pianos guys. They were fun.
