Definitely one of my favorite bars around. Cheap ass PBR is usually my go-to drink, and the bartenders serve 'em to you quick as shit. Tons of old Dodgers stuff litter the walls, and they even have a row of old wooden seats from the Lodge level.
Parking on those steep streets scares the shit out of me, and I could just picture my car rolling down it after I leave. So I guess that's why I drink a lot when I get there--partly to calm my nerves, and partly becuase this place is fun as fuck.
Drunk dude semi-passed out on me and began to drool. Drunk dude quickly got removed, though bar was busy.
Subsequent drunk dude STOLE my brand new drinks (mine and my friend's - I bought them - $15 for my Grey Goose soda and her Stella) as I went out back (you can't take drinks outside). I saw him. he denied it. He seemed violent. I went to bartender. Bartender provided new drinks, no questions asked. I wasn't lying. But I could have been.
Danced with young birthday boy. Bought him a shot. Bartenders did last call shot with us. Very nice.
Pool table, photo booth, dance floor, good, honest bartenders, patio, nice bouncers. Yes, it helps that I'm a girl with big tits. But they're nice to men too.

I covertly sneaked in here last night after 55 degrees (I know, I know). My friend and I were on the… Read more »
This place has a dance floor surrounded by black leather booths, one pool table and a bank of gun lockers. Yea, this place used to be a cop bar, and that rocks.
Me and best friend strolled up Sunset last Monday evening. A sign simply reading BAR beckoned us. We ate the free chili dogs and watched the Cleavland Browns try not to lose. The jukebox was well stocked, the ladies shot some mean billiards, and Joe the bartender was rad.
Apparently this place used to be a cop bar for the Rampart division. Now it's a ritzy club and you'll usually see a line outside of here on the weekends. The drinks are cheap but the music the DJ plays usually sucks. There's a pool table and a neat photo booth. It's a decent place when it isn't so crowded.
I reeaallly want to like Short Stop but I can never quite get there.
I love the strong $5 mixed drinks and bartenders and the crowd and the room in the back and the $3 photo booth and the parking lot a few blocks down but the music never gets me. It seems like every time I'm there everyone is just having a mediocre time and I leave feeling unfulfilled.
Maybe it takes time but for now you only get 3 stars, Short Stop.
I'm not a Dodgers fan.
I mean, I hate sports in general.
Maybe it's because I grew up without a father figure, or maybe because a rowdy black kid snapped my hand in half while shooting hoops in PE in middle school, but either way, sports just aint for me.
If sports aren't my thing, then why do I end up going to this crappy sports bar? It's like I'm a glutton for punishment.
With the early 2000's hip-hop and oldies mash-up and crowded dance floor, you'd think I'd stay as far away as possible.
But I end up coming back.
On the last visit, I punched the wall outside this place and split my knuckle in half. I currently have it superglued together and will use the scar it leaves behind as a reminder to avoid this place from now on.
Cool dive-y bar with a good jukebox of old school tunes. The place is separated into three rooms: the bar, dancefloor, and pool room. The drinks were good and relatively cheap - a beer and vodka tonic for $10. The crowd is less pretentious than the average echo park/ silverlake crowd which makes the place more casual and upbeat. Will for sure come back-- maybe I'll even get on the dancefloor.
I have driven by the Short Stop a gazillion times, but never had the chance to check it out until recently when I scored some sweet tickets to the Dodgers-Phillies NLCS game...Go Dodgers! The game was early so I met my friend there around 3pm to get sauced up before the game =). All I have to say is what an effing great time we had knocking back $2 Pabst Blue Ribbons and talking sports trash with all of the other patrons...so much fun!
The place seems small from the outside, but there's actually a good amount of room once you're in. The bar area upon entering is a lil tight, but it opens up to several back rooms and a smoking alley. Once we got settled in, the staff was great and they kept the PBR and tequila flowing (Yes, I was not feeling so hot the next day). I did notice that it got crowded in a hurry, but everyone there had a good vibe (unless you were a Phillies fan...Booooo!) so everything was peachy.
As for parking, well it's basically crap! Definitely read all of the street signs if you park on the residential streets. I lucked out on this visit and scored one of the spots across the street on Sunset...nice!
My only regret is that they don't serve food (or didn't when I was there) since I would have killed to have some buffalo wings that day. Its all good though and I have to say that this is a great place to get your pre-Dodgers party started during the Summer...you can even walk to the stadium from here and save yourself a few bucks that can go towards some more PBRs...Mmmmm PBRs!
GO DODGERS!!!
i was skeptical of coming here because the parking sucks and the place looks like a hole in the wall,
But I was surprised to find myself having a great time! The beers were good, and the mixed drinks were decent. i found myself having shot after shot of tequila, with friends and even the bartender. Staff was really cool, and if you talk to them and stand at the bar, you will most likely get a drink on the house.
Small dancing floor was fun too. Good music. Shitty restrooms, so make sure use the restroom before you get there.
Looking forward to coming back here.
Great place to go before a Dodgers game! My boss took our team to this place before the Dodgers game since him and his friends frequent this place often. This is like the hotspot to go to right before a game because beer is $2.
Get here early as the place packs up. Take a cab or drive here, find parking on the street if you're lucky. Mingle with some other Dodgers fan, (almost everyone is wearing some sort of Dodgers gear, which was cool), walk to the stadium (about a 10 min walk), enjoy the game, walk back, have a couple more beers, and head home. Easy to avoid all traffic and not have to pay for parking at the stadium.
This bar has a lot of history. My boss was explaining to me while I was here that a lot of cops used to frequent this place. This was the place they would do the interviewing. There are badges and items on the walls but after the rampart scandal broke, they didn't come back anymore (Google it). Many things have been left behind so it's kind of cool to see all those items and the history.
My co-worker told me before we went that this place is pitch black. I had no idea what he was talking about until i set foot in this place. It took me about a min to adjust to the darkness, but once I did it was a cool atmosphere. When ordering your drinks, the bartender would start off from one spot and go all the way down asking for drinks, which was pretty efficient. The only problem with this is if you fill the spot after he's gone through you'll have to wait for the whole chain to start again.
Besides the pool they also have the Golden Golf Tee game, which I've been noticing at a lot more bars. It's actually a pretty fun game and you can spend about an hour playing.
Overall this is a great bar, and I would definitely go back during game day.
I have hit up Short Stop more for the nightlife than I have pre/post Dodger games. As a fan of Mannywood, I would love to check it out for the sporty fun, but the night time has been the right time for me here. (Like how I slipped in a Ray Charles quote there?)
The Short Stop is pretty darn big. It's full of barflies and hipsters, and its good fun. They have good beer on tap, and a Vodka Tonic or Rum and Coke is always mixed strong. They have a big open area for people to dance on, and they always keep an eclectic DJ mix going, so you will have familiar music to help shake your monemaker.
If the loudness gets to you, you can always hang at the packed bar scene, or chill out in the back room that features pool tables. It's a great game to play when you've thrown back a few! You can showcase your inner pool shark, as you get overconfident, bet money, and proceed to scratch every shot! Good times!
This is a great place to go if you want to get out of Hollywood, but still keep it lively and fun with a Silverlake / Echo Park (Whatever you wanna call it) sorta spin. I digs this place!
Great place to hang out before & after the game or work.
Two dollars for shitty PBR beer during happy hour, inability to see anyone in the dark, strangers touching you?
Well worth the 2 dollar beer, and the trek here before every Dodgers home game.
Hmm...only the second bar I've been to in LA, so I might not be the most qualified critic. However: a bar that is both a place for drinking and a place for dancing....a bar that is a place for hipsters and non-hipsters and trendy and non-trendy...a bar that rocks.
I had a great time here, they played great music (not top 40 club shit) and the crowd was amiable and gave off a good vibe. Will I go again? Yes!
I can't review the drinks since I only had a PBR.
Popular Mixed Bar
Dark full bar, St. Parking, Small dance floor and smoking alley, bar pool tables, photo booth, mixed music and mixed crowd.
Contrary to its name, short stop isn't a sports bar (not that I care for that kind of thing). But its by the dodger stadium so I guess that accounts for something.
I went on a busy night and had a hard time finding seats. I don't remember what I ordered to drink that night but I definitely remember the frat boy next to me ordering a yager bomb. I mean really...?
They have a photobooth like any typical hipster bar. Also the dim lighting gives it away.
Great place to go with a group of people
Be aware after dodger games this place gets packed!
It does get crowded on weekends and is difficult to find seating..
music is good they play a lot of old school hip hop and they have a really cute photobooth and pool table in one of the rooms.
if your a smoker they have a smoking alley.
parking sucks though...usually people park at a gas station near it which is like $5 or $10 bucks i think not too sure but you can try to find parking on the streets but good luck!
and if you cant see in dark places then your not going to enjoy it because its a dark bar but its fun
Been here twice. Pretty cool spot. Drinks are cheap and strong. Music is different but enjoyable.
Yelp is a very subjective website. Kenneth T. wrote,
"Two dollars for shitty PBR beer during happy hour, inability to see anyone in the dark, strangers touching you?"
and then gave this place 3 stars. I agree with his description 100%, and yet I give this place 5 stars. Go figure.
Also, The Short Stop will forever have a place in my heart, for it was just outside of the bar that I had my first danger dog, thus starting a romance that I hope will never end.
I love dive bars. Seriously.
The Short Stop is great. It's a quick walk or bike ride from my house. The parking is pretty bad, but you shouldn't be drinking and driving now should you!?
They have a pool table, a couple arcade games, a photobooth, a jukebox and an area to drunk dance. What more could you really need?? The booze is cheap, too, especially during happy hour. OH! And it's next to the hot dog lady! AND sometimes a guy comes around and sells you tamales in the bar....BUY them. You'll thank me.
I think, though, I'm gonna knock off a star because this place is mental on weekend. I usually only go during the week and actually refuse to go on the weekend.
I think they need to maybe add some more cocktail tables in the dancing area or make better use of the weird back area behind the jukebox. Standing around getting squished is not my idea of fun.
This spot is officialy --BURNNED OUT--
Since when do bars have an hour wait.
Go back to club Bang d00dz.

I honestly didn't remember going here until I saw the $60.00 charge of my credit card bill at the end of the month. It took a few minutes looking at the pictures posted by other yelp members for me to convince myself I wasn' t the subject of credit card theft.
The bar is stocked, the people are cool, and there's a large smoking area in the back. I wasn't a huge fan of the music from what I remember, but it was definitely dark (it's advantage for me).
Love this place before a Dodger game $2.00 beers can't beat that.. The crowd is cool and chill. Best night is on Friday's but just get there early because after 10:30 there is a line.
We all know the prices of drinks at a ball game are high. So it's proper to get a little sauced before ever going into the gates. Don't even try to drink at Dodger Stadium these days. You'll get ticketed pretty badly. So what's a drunk to do?
Depend on your short stop! Yes, this place is only a stones throw away from the stadium. They have very dirt cheap pre-game happy hour specials and once you've drank more than your fill, you can stumble your way to the game. It's the perfect reason to get to the ball park early. Even more so if you want to just find some free parking around the area. Careful, a lot of the streets become "residents only"
The place looks like a pretty nice dive place mixed in with a sort of Baseball history guide and you toss in a dance floor and good music, you got yourself some good times to be had.
Though I have only been here prior to a baseball game, so I can't tell you what it's like any other time. I can say that it's just utterly great for pre-game drinking
This dive bar is best for people watching. On any given night the dance floor is filled. My friends and I come here regularly for dancing, though there's also pool tables and a patio.
Most recently we discovered that Sundays (of all nights) is the best time. The DJ whoever she is, is amazing. She really knows how to get a dance floor going. When the place closed the entire crowd started chanting 'one more song'. Sadly security kicked everyone out before any extra songs could be played, but it was still a crazy time!
(Plus drinks are on the cheapside woo hoo! )
I heard it used to be an old cop hang out.
Cool dive bar, next to Little Joy, two rooms where one is a bar and another has a dance floor with a DJ and overall standard priced drinks that are moderate to strong in strength.
Oh ya, there's an outdoor patio if you smoke.
You have to park at this closed down gas station or on one of the streets around there.
One LA's best bars. An Echo Park staple. A Dodgers game must stop.
I have had "many a' friend" come into my life from drinking in this place. I have seen it evolve over the years through improvements and loss of entertainment license to mega popular weekend spot. I had to start slutting around with Little Joy on the weekends because of the crowds, and now that place blows so I go to neither.
Still wonderful during the week.
Dingy, dodgy, divey....if only I knew more adjectives that started with D....
I slunk over to this Echo Park haunt late Friday night for some drinks and kicks. The place was packed, shadowy, and seemingly covered from floor to ceiling with a thin layer of grime. Basically: dive bar at it's best.
I fought my way to the bar where a pig-tailed brunette served up my drink of choice: gin & tonic. At the risk of looking like a total alcoholic, I decided to buy two at once since the bar was so crowded. So, with a drink in each palm, I teetered my way into the poolroom where I could drink incognito in the shadowy corner booth....
The crowd here is an interesting mix of echo park locals and eagerly indifferent scenesters. Of course, the two groups stay apart like oil and water, but I did see an amazing game of pool between a hefty, tattooed, PBR drinker, and a cute little brunette with a plaid jumper & Betty Paige bangs. Let's just say Mr. PBR was pretty shocked when Betty sunk the eight ball after about 5 minutes.
There's a photo booth in the pool room where for $3 you can immortalize your night in divey splendor-- or you can pound a couple of drinks, dance the night away on the dance floor and wake up the next morning with nothing but the grime on your shoes and the cigarette musk on your clothes to remind you of echo park's kitschiest hovel.
Woulda liked it if I were drunk already.
Got a great pool table, a dance floor, and decent selection of beer. Totally hipster and the bartenders are kind of grumpy about stuff. Don't start the night here, but feel free to devolve and end up here for your mid-drink or last drink hurrah.
I loved this place! Great dive bar, dancing to amaaazing 40s 50s 60s music (when I was there on Tuesday evening).
If you've seen Tarantino's Death Proof, and think of the lap dance song, then that's pretty much the music you'll hear all night long here.
Everyone's very relaxed, you feel right at ease when dancing there. Drinks are cheap.
It's settled, if I ever open up a bar, the outside is going to be dark with a neon pink sign that says "Cocktails" because if life has tough me anything, is that those are always the best bars! Short Stop is pretty much a guranteed good time on the weekends when your with a group of people. If dancing is your thing, I can see how this place would be a gold mind for you. No cover, great beer, and great atmosphere. Dodger fans would also love this place as it is True Blue Certified!
This is good place to go if you're in high school and have a fake ID or if you're a 5'1" cholo. The beers are pretty cheap (I got 5 beers for about $25). No, mom, I didn't drink all those beers by myself, I was buying for people. The music was hip hop circa the late 90s which I can groove to, can you? Ask yourself that question (and be honest) before considering this place.
The crowd was ridiculously short. So short I was practically breast feeding everyone. Gross. Even my 5'2" Nicaraguan accomplice noticed. In fact, she was the first to comment on the demographics. I'm just pointing out the obvious, not hating on you shorties by any means, you know I got nothing but love for ya.
Besides all of the above, the photo booth would be cool if it actually worked. Also, if you smoke or feel like getting free smokes there is some camel chick that scampers around asking for your ID in exchange for 2 packs of cigs. I always judge everything on, "Would I bring my Oregonian friends here?" and the answer is NO, they wouldn't like it and I neither do I.
I actually thoroughly enjoyed myself here!
Drinks are cheap. Crowd is weird. Music is good. The dancefloor was big enough and the wait at the bar wasn't too long.
Minus one star just because it was a little smelly. Not sure if it was the crowd or the floor. =/ yikes.
OH MAN. I love this place. I figured I should update my review, now that I've been way too many more times and have also gone on every night. Haha. I come here to dance, and I always have a great time. I think there was maybe once or twice I didn't like the DJ much, but that's a pretty damn good ratio given how often I come here. Friendly staff, friendly patrons, and always someone dancing crazier than you.
Every night of the week has different types of music, and they all are fun. Fridays and Saturdays, though, come early, or expect to wait in a line. However, for no cover and intense fun, the lines are worth it!
Honestly, a few months ago when I was deciding whether to sign a lease for my new place, when I discovered how close it is to the Short Stop that just put it over the edge into new-apartment-ecstasy. Yeah, that's right. Ecstasy.

This is a great bar, just not on the weekends. Wednesdays are the best, because they do 90's music. The best part is the dance-floor that is packed with people who don't give a shit about what they look like while busting a move. The drinks aren't anything to write home about, just a dump & pour bar.
The gyst? Get drunk and dance your pants off....literally. Fun stuff.
This is probably my favorite bar in the L.A area. The drinks are cheap, the music is good, and there's always a good crowd. However, it can be a pain sometimes, because the line gets sooo long!!! so make sure to get there a bit early! There is a Photobooth, a pool table, and Pin-ball machine. Smoking patio outside .
Bottom line, i love this place, i always end up having good times here!
Dive bar? Yup! Dodger's bar? Yup. I've been here a few times since I moved into the hood. I like it. Nothing special but nothing horrible. The Bomb is the fact that they have a black and white photo booth in the pool room. Taken pics with two friends and they are pretty awsome!
Happy Hour specials kinda suck... nothing worth writing about but the people are friendly and I meet my dodger's friends there....
I've been here a bunch of times and had fun every single one of them. Just the right dive-level (depth?) for me: cheap and dirty enough that I can wear flannel and pay with dimes if I have to, but not to the point of being depressing like Bar 107 or Little Joy.
Enjoy wide range of activities - drink real cheap beer, smoke in the smoking alley, play some pool or some pinball (although the new machine is rigged), take a picture in the photobooth, or tear up the dancefloor (if you're into ironic retro post-bloghouse underground popindie/hip-hop).
Four stars because I think the music kind of sucks, and there's no mirror in the bathroom.
my dad had a good laugh the other day when i told him i've been going to Short Stop. He used to frequent it quite often back when it was a cop bar. It's no longer a cop bar, but I'm still carrying on the family tradition.
the bar is super crowded on the weekends and it may take forever to get a drink. i love bailey's on the rocks and for some reason they only serve it in a thimble sized glass that has no room after you add the ice. that cost them a star.
besides that they have pretty good music and a pretty decent mid-late 20's crowd.
oh, the women's bathroom can get pretty bad on weekend nights... beware.
I've never not had a great time here...
