I really couldn't think of any reason to give the SP less than five stars.  When we arrived we were both taken aback by how friendly the receptionist was.  I guess we were half expecting everyone out here to be kind of done with tourist, but they were so glad to have us.
The room was perfect for a weekend get away and stocked with so much more than we had anticipated.  Organic toiletries, wine glasses, silver ware, rocks glasses, beach towels, glow sticks, and intimate candles we guessed for taking down to their beautiful garden at night.
I took a lot of pictures of the place because the ones already online really do not do it much justice.  They really should get a pro out there to capture the real beauty and intimacy of the place.  It really is your classic beach front motel.
Five stars for location, service, garden, and amenities.

This was an easy to find, clean, and cozy motel. It was perfect for a short getaway! The receptionist was friendly and had good recommendations for when to go to which restaurants (considering there were only 2 open at night and 3 during the day... cute!). I also loved that they had a good
selection of dvds and board games for us to borrow in their office.

We had Room 1, which was secluded and had a view of the garden. The fireplace was a nice touch, which made the room feel homey and not like a motel at all. We could hear other lodgers, though.

The pricing was about $150 after taxes for a night in the middle of the week. A bit high, but I think prices are pretty much the same at other places. Still, I highly recommend staying here and would come back again! :)

Side note: If you plan to have snacks or a picnic during your stay, bring food from outside of Stinson Beach! The market has items that are 2-3 times the normal price! eek!

OK, if you're planning a basic get-away for the weekend, Stinson Beach is great.  This hotel, more of a motel really, is great for the price, which in the off-season is ~$100 a night.  Rooms are pretty basic, you want to ask from room #6 which is upstairs and has a bit of a view.   I wouldn't bring small kids here - rooms are not big and walls are not super thick.

Rooms have a fridge, so bring a couple bottles of good white wine and have a drink the garden, which is beautiful.

You'll want to combine this with:

    - breakfast at the Parkside and
    - dinner/cocktails outside at the Sand Dollar Restaurant.
    - bike ride in the hills
    - surfing at the mouth of the Bolinas Lagoon

We overnighted at the Sandpiper about a year ago.  It's only a mild upgrade from your standard interstate motel, so the $150+ room rate felt a bit steep.

That said, it's only 100 steps from the foggy, fine-sand-filled wonderland that is Stinson Beach... so it still ain't a bad choice.

There are 4 hotels in Stinson Beach and I think this is the 2nd best. Ocean Court Motel (across the street) has bigger rooms and the prices are better -- although it's not as posh as the Sandpiper and it's hard to get a room at Ocean Court during the summer.

I booked out every room of the Sandpiper for guests when I got married in Stinson Beach. I put my grandmother, father-in-law, priestess, and a bunch of friends here. Zero complaints...and most of them went out of their way to let us know they liked it.

This was a surprisingly nice place in tiny but adorable Stinson Beach. The room (we stayed in Room 1) was large, with stone floors and an electric fireplace and a large and comfortable bed.

The town is tiny, so you can basically walk anywhere no matter where you're staying, but it's a stone's throw from the Parkside Cafe, which is hands down the best restaurant in town.

The rates were reasonable for our peak season end of July stay ($135/night pre-tax) and we really enjoyed it.

This is a great little seaside motel composed mainly of cottages. My family and I stayed here this past winter and they were surprisingly full. Steps away from the beach and the main drag.

Rooms are rustic and have some character - slanted floors much? But they're well maintained and clean. Especially love the "wood" burning stove.

Prices are kinda steep though, and beware that they have a 7-day advance cancellation policy. We ended up not staying the full duration of our reservation (finished doing the house hunting we needed) and got dinged for an extra night - so that's not so cool. Still an enjoyable place though!

Stayed at The Sandpiper during the April 10th weekend. A friend had recommended it and the website had attractive and quaint pictures of the garden.

On reaching the place, we were pleased that the beach was only a couple of minutes away. The garden is gorgeous, lots of beautiful native plants were in full bloom. So far so good.

On entering the cabin, we were very disappointed with the old decor. The cabin had one full bed and one roll away. And we were 4 people in that cabin. The roll away bed was extremely uncomfortable. The worst thing about the cabin though, was the bathroom. The tub was in a bad shape, and I couldn't believe we paid $175 for that cabin.

If you are like me, who prefers clean bathrooms and clean decor, look for something else in Mill Valley. Better to drive some distance than pay so much money at this place and not get what you pay for.

Excellent accommodations. Easy beach access. A wonderful get away for the entire family. I would choose the sandpiper every time I visit Stinson Beach. The grounds are beautiful, tranquil and serene. The rooms are rustic and cozy, with small kitchenettes and fire places.

I stayed here 4/10. Driving up to this place might give you second thoughts on the look of it on the outside. However, the interior of the hotel is very nice. I stayed here with my hubby and child. The futon just right for my 6yr old. Easy access to beach, shops and restaurants. I plan on coming back again. Staff friendly and knowledgeable.
