This is a monument to all the women of bay area. It is beautiful outside and in and serves the community of San Francisco to be a better place. Our women's group has used the building several times, the rates are more than fair and I highly recommend it.

There are few places I have ever considered to be as inspiring. This building's exterior is unbelievable: the quality, the message, the magnitude. Check it out.

I planned an event here just recently and I was surprised to find out what a hidden gem this place is. Located on 18th street, it is conveniently located near food hotspots like Tartine Bakery and Bi-Rite Creamery.

I loved the location but also the price of the venue. We rented the auditorium for about $60/hour and another meeting room for just $25/hour. Daisy was helpful to answer my questions, though I wish she was more accessible via phone.

On the day of my event, the woman at the front counter was helpful and timely. She helped us with the chairs and tables and even helped us set up. She was friendly also. Our event was a success and I appreciated the help of the staff there!

I came here tonight for a special event of my software user group. Our usual venue had a schedule conflict so our group rented space here. Parking is very difficult in this area. You'd need to come early to find a space, public transportation is a better choice.

The building is located across the street from popular restaurant Farina. You cannot miss it, just look for the colorful painted mural walls.

We had fun at this year's anniversary celebration, it's a good event space.

Beautiful beautiful beautiful inspiring mural outside of the women's building here. It represents so many social, racial, cultural, and economic issues that women are faced with and brings them all together to address that we are all struggling, with one cause, one fight.

There are many services here, and including rooms for rent. And please come out here and support many of the groups that use their services!

What a beautiful building to help create and build and maintain a beautiful community within!

I always stop and stare at the outer skin of this building. It wears the most accomplished mural in the city. There are great murals by Diego Rivera at  City College, at Detroit's Institute of Arts, and one that was controversially removed from Rockefeller Center in New York City, but that you can see in Mexico City. All of them are magnificent. And in this magnificent category, I place the mural that covers the Women's Building. A great American achievement.

The connection to the earth is a topic already explored by Rivera and Siqueiros, but the overgrowth is the main message this mural conveys. For example, Rivera's murals always go through an inevitable section where bloody conflicts always derive on the figures that shape an identity, or a country - like the way bloody conflict shaped the Mexican personality. This mural takes, on the other hand, not the conflicts but the fruits and flowers that just happen, just like a very well-cared garden. Outside of the conflict, the message just happens in the face of figures like Georgia O'Keeffe, or the crowning Rigoberta Menchú. The message is simple: you need to know about these women.

On a curious note: the prominent image of Rigoberta  Menchú is special not only to women in the Bay Area. By random connections, and for the lucky benefit of this area, many native Mayan speakers have found a place to work here. Many of them prepare and serve your food. They also clean your workplace, and work in your garden. They are Mayans like Rigoberta (born in Guatemala). This image of the strong woman that has opened civil rights for them in Central America and Mexico is also inspiring them here.

A Serbian friend of mine, who lives in the city, is learning how to speak Mayan. There are many original Mayan speakers here. Can this city become part of the great Mayan world? ... I hope so.

Five stars for the awe-inspiring 4-story mural depicting the contributions of women around the world.  If you ask at the front desk, they'll give you a wonderful brochure on the imagery and background of their "MaestraPeace".

Mission District - Mural Stop #3

Such an empowering building, inside and out.  I've never been inside the building, nor have I used any of their services, but I have read about what they have to offer.  Being in such a huge city, they offer spaces for rent for meetings, banquets, and conferences, as well as other non-profit / social work things.

The Women's Building has a beautiful exterior portraying strength of women, and is a must see for murals in the Mission District.

It took me quite a while to find the Women's Building when looking for a place to host my LSAT classes, but I'm very glad I finally did.  I saved about $1,000 off my last venue, and it worked out perfectly for the classes.  The staff is amazing, especially Nina at the front desk.  Thanks for always being so sweet and cheerful, and thanks for helping me put away the tables and chairs at the end of your shift!

The only thing that keeps this from being 5 stars is the men's bathroom has been in a state of semi-disrepair for at least two months.  (There's a sign on the wall that says one of the urinals should not be used.  Shouldn't this just be fixed?)  I would love to re-review with 5 stars if this is addressed.  As is, I am delighted to keep holding my LSAT classes at this venue.  It's much better than giving my money to a hotel chain!

Had an event here and I highly recommend it. We rented out the auditorium on a Friday night and everything was wonderful. The staff is organized and on top of their game. The venue is beautiful and it is actually very cheap as far as San Francisco venues go.

I work for a non-profit social service organization, so, of course, I have heard of the Women's Building.

Then I found out last week that I no longer had a conference room for free for an event we were hosting this weekend, so I called the Women's Building to see if they could help me out-- they did.

For a very affordable $35/hr, we rented out a nice conference room that  worked for our group of about 15-- the receptionist even came in early at 8:30 am to accommodate us.

My one and only issue: I mentioned that we wanted to put some paper on the wall, and that I had enough sense to use blue painter's tape to protect their paint and they made me come down to look at the room only to tell me not to rip off the paint-- there was no need, but they didn't keep me long.

I am all about supporting local non-profits, and they were a very accommodating helpful conference space rental, and the building is amazing.

Such a pretty building, and home to a slew of non-profit goodness. Everyone who knows me, knows that i have a thing for social justice workers. Personally I don't have the time or inclination to 'do-good'. But I do have the time & inclination to do 'it' to those who do good. Those social justice workers just turn me on. So I stalk out the building, hunting for the next yummy non-profiteer to seduce. And for providing a steady stream of them, the Women's Building gets 5 stars.

These are the most moving murals in San Francisco for me. The building is turned into women. It is so colorful, so beautifully feminine, it moves in the way the Taj Mahal does even though they are so different.

I saw a Distortion to Static "Word on the Street: Hip Hop and Media" conference here last night. It was my first time in the brightly colored, well divided space. We must celebrate these institutions and spaces that house employment centers and various non-profits whose blood, sweat and tears keep local communities alive. Amen.

I just moved from San Francisco to New York and the Women's Building will be one of the things I miss the most.  Not only is this place amazing to look at, but the work that goes on inside is incredible.  This is my favorite 501 c 3 to donate to because I know that my contribution will go directly to positive community change efforts.  The Women's Building is always recruiting talented Board members to grow the building and its impact in the community. Contact the Executive Director, Teresa Mejia, if you are interested in getting involved.

the women's building is fantastic. on the ground floor they have a resource room with free internet service, job advice, and help with taxes. they also offer discounted legal counseling. there are two auditoriums that can be rented at low rates for anything from quinceneras to zine fests to nonprofit events to hula hoop dance classes. there are NA meetings here every day at noon, synogogue service on friday night, feldenkrais movement classes, and free yoga on thursday afternoons. there is even a child care tucked inside with the cutest little kids on the block. plus, TWB houses many nonprofits that work with youth and women. it's fun to work in such a lively, changing environment that supports so many worthy causes. plus it's hilarious to step outside and into tourists' photographs.
