Dear The Saint,
Why are you never open for brunch anymore? The last three times I've woken up thinking "chilaquiles!" I've headed straight for your door, only to find it locked. At 10:30 a.m. on a Saturday. At 11 a.m. on a Sunday. The morning after Pride (actually, I will give you a pass for that one). I want you to know you've disappointed me terribly.
I'd give you four, maybe even five stars for your tasty cocktails and your shot-and-a-beer happy hour special. But I'm still bitter about you being closed for brunch when your website clearly says you serve it.
I liked this place as soon as I walked in the door. I love the candles lit in between the bottles of tequila on the tall shelves, the old style pictures on the walls....very cool.
I have to admit we didn't even look at a food menu so I have no idea about their food but they have plenty of tequila!
One cool shot is a strawberry infused Patron Silver shot. They soak strawberries in the Patron for 21 days. Good stuff. I have never been much of a tequila drinker but, uh, well, let's just say I sure was Fri night! I honestly have no idea how much I drank here - enough to make me stumble most of the way home!!
The bartender, Christian if I remember correctly, was very cool. He picked out shots and drinks for us that were mostly right on! He even sat down and chatted at our table for a minute to help us figure out what we wanted. And he is pretty good eye candy too.
Fun place, can't wait to go back!
What a lovely place to enjoy a friday evening after work! The lighting is dark and the place is funky, instantly relaxing after my preppy, well lit work space. Candles are the only lighting for the middle section with the bar on one end and more dining on the other offering an eerie glow.
Happy hour (5-7pm) Tequila drink specials & small plates are all $5 & wells are $3.50- quite the bargain. Even more so when one of the plates we ordered (nachos) came out as carne asade & we got to eat both. Ah...happiness tastes like tequila.
SO DISAPPOINTED We have been at The Saint several times and we really liked it. We are constantly introducing new people to the restaurant and it is unfortunate that yesterday we brought a party of five who have never been there and provably will never go back because of the horrible service.
We made a reservation online and when we got there at 730 pm there was no such reservation. They waitress apologized and said it was going to be 15 minutes. Then another person at the bar asked us if we were already in the list and she said it was going to be half an hour. An hour in a half later we checked and we WERE NOT EVEN IN THE LIST ON THE FIRST PLACE, the waitress apologized again but she said it was going to take another half an hour so we left.
There is no sense in going to a place with good food and drinks if they have terrible service.
I was not expecting the interior to be so lovely. I wouldn't mind moving in for the space alone.
I also wouldn't mind having 24/7 access to their house margarita, ceviche and carne asada tacos. I can be a picky eater when it comes to Mexican food, and this stuff really pleased my palate. The masa cakes (called sopas at other restaurants) were dense, yet fluffy and full of flavor. I have not found any other place in Seattle that can do them right.
The happy hour is a deal. $5.50 for drinks and $5 for little plates. I was full and happy for less than $20.
This place is HAPPENING.
I've only been once (on a weds. of all days) but the bartender was nice and checked up on us twice (wow. points.) and the crowd is fun and young.
Really great vibe and sexy dark come nightfall. I almost wanted to make out with one of my girlfriends.
I live right across the street and see tons of smartly dressed hipsters in this place all the time, so I figured why the hell not?
Mole con pollo - good stuff. Tender chicken, mole sauce had a very nice subtle heat to it and they weren't stingy with it either. I could have licked the plate, I enjoyed it that much. Rice and beans - good stuff. And can we hear a "woo" for the perfect portion size? Not a huge goddam trashcan lid of a plate like I'm used to in Texas which demands to be eaten, but a cute little plate with just the right amount of food.
House margaritas - a tad too sweet for my taste but after two I was definitely in a better mood than when I walked it. Been one of those weeks.
I sat at the bar since I was by myself (blah) and both bartenders were friendly and attentive, despite being rushed off their feet.
One star off for being wicked dark. I like dark and moody when I'm drinking, but I do like to be able to see my food.
This is our new Sunday dinner spot.
We skip the churchin' and go straight to the Diablos, Mananas, Hermanos, and other tequila-laden delights.
The HH nachos, tacos, and ceviche are awesome every time. And hot damn, if that salsa doesn't burn my face off. I love it. For a few bucks, we get a tasty satisfying meal, a good buzz, and awesome service.
I'm sure God understands.

You know that 90s movie "The Saint" w/ Val Kilmer and Elizabeth Shue? This bar is themed after that movie!
Just kidding... But if anyone's listening, that could be good idea for a new bar.
On the real, this place is pretty incredible. It's definitely a tequila bar, so don't come here to drink anything else. The design is great -- always love to see businesses repping futura, and the staff is pretty knowledgeable (which is wild because they have dozens and dozens of unique tequilas).
Now, most importantly, they have a "specialty drink" called the "TO GO"... Because it's literally a drink you take to go. They crack open a Grapefruit Jarritos, pour out a sizeable amount, then refill the bottle with tequila and lime. Now you have a hobo-margarita you can drain as you walk the streets of Capitol Hill.
Seriously. How cool is that?

Tequlia Bar: check
Decor: A+
Food: C+
Location: A
Staff: C+
Came here during opening week on a private invite, and again for a private party.
Being that I came with the owner's friends, we received excellent service; the past 2 times I've come here for drinks, I haven't been impressed, and last night was it for me.
Bartender: "Sweetie, what can I get you?"
Really? Every other word was "sweetie" and "honey".
Barf.
The other staff member, sat down next to be at the bar and was on her blackberry, listening into our conversation (I was with 4 other guys) and kept snapping her gum.
Every few seconds, "pop!" "snap!" "pop!"
I looked over at her, annoyed as hell, and just smiled. She returned the smile and happily kept snapping her gum. Rolling my eyes, I ordered a cocktail and while the bartender was making my drink, girl gets up, gets behind the bar and starts adding more flavors into my drink that I'm paying $10 for.
Meh.
I love this venue, I love the decor, but unless I'm throwing a private party, or invited to one here, I will not come back.
If you love tequila then this is your place. Then why does someone who doesn't like tequila, like myself, give this place 4 stars? I love the atmosphere. It is very cozy and all around cool looking bar. The staff was pretty friendly, and I don't know if she was joking but the waitress even checked our IDs.
My friend and I both had some Anejo, but since there were so many to choose from we both just blindly pointed to one. These are about $12 so it is definately a sipper. The girls we were with were too focused on the free chips and salsa that we got. There were three types of salsa and one quacamole that came with the chips and I have to say that the pico de gallo was one of the best I have ever had.
Some day I will have to come in here for dinner.
Zipzap Zubidy Bop!
Still haven't tried their food yet, after my 50th visit...
But seriously, this place just gets cooler and cooler.
Got to know some of the staff and they are the best!!
One time they stayed open just to wait for me! My friend had gotten there earlier and they had already done last call, but he told the bartender that I and some others were on our way. So they just waited there to serve us one round of drinks. That deserves some cred.
Decor/atmoshphere is definitely awesome.
Totally random and design-geek-out: I like that they use Futura, one of my favorite typefaces.

Tequila Salvation:

If you've ever been on the hill you've surely seen some crazy looking aqua (or is it teal?) building. Yeah, that building. You should go there. It's awesome. I promise.
We dropped in for Happy Hour (which THANKFULLY is 5-7) and were quite pleased with what they had to offer. They have $5 Mexican "tapas" and drink specials during Happy Hour which goes from 5-7! I almost never am able to go to Happy Hour because of my commute and work and stuff so I was so happy to hear their HH goes from 5-7.
The nachos we ordered were delicious! A very, very generous portion of salty chips, lotsa queso, beans, pico de gallo, guacamole and a side of a smokey, spicy, tangy salsa. Win! Despite a mammoth portion of the HH Nachos (HH goes from 5-7!!!) I was still hungry and decided to go with the mini pork enchiladas which are served with a side of rice and beans. The enchiladas really hit the spot and for $5 during their HH (which goes from 5-7!!!!!) they were a steal. Perfect size for a light dinner or evening snack. The pork was wonderfully moist and shredded and the sauce (whatever it was) was amazing!
The two house margaritas I had were surprisingly very, very different. I'm not sure what they did to the first one, but it came out so ridiculously bitter. I was thankful for the salt-rimmed glass which seemed to cut down on the tartness and bitter taste. Against my better judgement I ordered a second one of them, but thankfully it came out much, much better. It was much more balanced and while it wasn't sweet, it wasn't extremely bitter or sour. Nice blend of tequila, lime, citrusy notes in general and a teeny, tiny bit sweet. But for $5 during their HH (which goes from 5-7!!!!) I wasn't complaining.
Service was overall good! The atmosphere was fine... I just read it used to be a Wing Dome! Crazy, because it's definitely an improvement of that. My one complaint is that they didn't have sour cream! I know it's way gringo of me to want sour cream, but it's just a necessity. It goes against everything I believe in to not have sour cream. Shame. Also, I really wasn't a fan of their pinto beans. Very bland.
But if you're on the hill and want some good Happy Hour fare (HH goes from 5-7!!!), Saint is your place! I enjoyed it and was so happy that their HH goes from 5-7!!!! Let me know if you go, I wanna come toooo!
I am a girl full of contradictions. And the most recent contradiction came to light this evening during happy hour. I hate tequila, but I love this tequila bar.
If you're looking for happy hour on the hill, I highly recommend The Saint. From 5-7 you can choose from five cocktails and five dishes for only $5. I ordered the Cucumber Cocktail (no tequila for me, thank you very much). When the bartender brought the drink, she told me they were out of cucumber (which probably should have been pointed out when I ordered, but oh well). So I drank a Cucumber Cocktail sans the cucumber. It was tasty enough to order two. The nachos were solid. It was a shareable portion with cheese on every overly salty chip, beans, guac., and pico de gallo.
The bartender and waitress both had great attitudes and were chatty. They even hopped on the internet to find out whether olives were fruit or veggies after my table pulled them into our conversation (they're fruit).
I love the decor, the size and the prices. I'll be back soon!
The Saint is beautiful. A gorgeous array of different colored bottles and tequilas behind the bar. And if your real nice the bar tender will give you a small taste of the $100 a shot stuff for free. The best part is the cute little chaser shots with hot sauce and who knows what else, so classy! Can get a tad spendy, but well worth it.
come here and get some happy hour. small plates are surprisingly filling. terrific value!
the tacos are great for when you've been eating too often at rancho bravo and want to step it up a notch. filled with beef and thoughtfully arranged spices.
the nachos plate is surprisingly large and comes with a generous heap of toppings. the best part is, the chips are fresh and crispy all the way down to the last bit at the bottom.
brunch was a bit disappointing but happy hour is a great pick for dinner.
Hmmm, I'm confused. Three weeks ago I was walking by on a Saturday morning and I saw they were closed, and it was scratched off the window that they did weekend brunches anymore. But, their website says different, so I dunno. Anyway, I loved their huevos rancheros, and mimosas were fun as they came in a cute glass, very fresh-squeezed, with a pretty purple flower on top. I like the simplicity of the place; I don't feel like I'm in Seattle when I step in. Their bar area looks pretty cool with all the tea lights; I'll have to try it out after dark sometime.
It's been a year since my last visit to The Saint...went yesterday cause I was in the mood for a margarita. Pleasantly stumbled upon Happy Hour (from 5-7pm) which offers a pretty generous selection of drink and food specials - all for $5!
Mandy M. and I cozied up to the bar and, despite all the action going on between the server and bartender, we were not short of intimacy. We caught up, enjoyed our Hermanos and picked out a few nibbles - the nachos and carne asada tacos (which came highly recommended by the server).
I was pleasantly surprised with my most recent visit to The Saint. Our service was competent and enthusiastic, food and drink were good - alllllll served up in a comfortable and welcoming setting.
Not sure how long ago this happened, but The Saint has expanded the seating in the bar area. The only drawback is that if you sit at the new counter area, you're directly on top of a two-top, which ain't so great for either party.

I've eaten here before and enjoyed it. HOWEVER, I have just gotten back from my mom's birthday brunch that I arranged for my family. I made a reservation a month ago for 11:00am today (Sat.). They open at 10:00am. We got there at 11:05 and the place was EMPTY and locked up. There were other people waiting outside with brunch reservations and one by one they all gave up and left. We waited until 11:15 and still no one arrived to open the restaurant. Luckily, I thought of a plan B and moved our party to 611 Supreme who kindly accommodated our party even with a busy dining room.
Seriously, The Saint. That was embarrassing for me. EPIC FAIL. We had reservations made a month ago. I mean that is just the epitome of bad service. Unbelievable.
I've been eyeing the saint for a long time, and was saving it till I was 21. The outside looks so cool and I couldn't wait. I finally went in, and sat down for some food with my boyfriend.
It was a little pricey, but I had been waiting for a long time to go here! So I opted for a little bit more of a pricey drink (a fresa which sounded friendly) and it was really my fault that I didn't ask more about it. It was like drinking straight alcohol. My boyfriend order coranitas which were a great deal.
I ordered one of the things I thought would be the least spicy for food (pork +pinapple?) and it tasted alright for a little while but eventually the spice took over and I couldn't finish what seemed like it could be really good! My boyfriend said the same thing about his steak. It was sad because it was pricey food but we just couldn't surpass the heat.
Overall, I've wanted to go here forever and was dissapointed. I wouldn't ever eat their food again, but if you like really spicey then you might want to try it. I will probably come back to their bar some time to grab a drink (something with a little less alcohol in it). I still love the atmosphere of the place.
I am a very simple and easy to please gal. I have a very nice clean simple top three in my life. The Saint has one of my top 3 and does it like no other... for that I love them.
Tequila, but Tequila done right and given the respect and love that it deserves. Fresh ingredients, no syrups here - this is from scratch. I wish I could have stayed for more - sadly I was driving and had to be good.
Food was deserving of 4 stars - good portions.
Decor - not that it matters was not the warm over done traditional Mexican places I am used to... but the tequila makes up for it.
I will be back. Again... and agian.
Came here for happy hour on a Friday evening. The only thing I'll complain about is minor (and I'll get that out of the way now) is that we told them as soon as we got in that we wanted a table for 4. Someone else that came after us got the table that was supposed to be ours. The waitress apologized sincerely and it was all ok! No biggie. She was pretty cute too :)
This place is a tequila bar and has good small dishes. During 5-7pm they have their happy hour and there are 5 cocktails and 5 dishes which are 5 dollars each. It was really packed pretty much the whole time but you can't really blame that on the place, that means it's good right?!
The house margarita was really tasty as was the "To go" which is grapefruit Juarritos and tequila, served right in the bottle with lime. Yum! I also tried some sort of orange+grenadine+tequila cocktail which was really tasty and kind of spicy/gingery as well.
We got the nachos which are HUGE and really good. Comes with pico salsa, guac, pinto beans (ick), melted cheddar, and another spicy salsa for dipping.
We also got chicken mole tacos, again for 5 dollars. I have to say I was impressed, because I've had really great mole at Oaxacan Kitchen in Palo Alto so my reference for comparison is tough.
Finally, we got a plate of guac and chips, good stuff.
Ended with tequila shots that the cute waitress recommended for us and left very very happy :)
This HAPPY HOUR is fabulous for those people who are looking for low-key (either to chat with a friend or a lover). I myself am one of those people, and appreciate the delicious wood tables and simple decor. Flickering tea candles add to the laid-back atmosphere in the evenings, and the choice to rely on the outside light during the afternoon is the best, in my opinion.
I recommend grabbing one of the appetizers during happy hour for your dinner, as you'll get a small plate with rice and beans in addition to, say the mole tacos (WHAT MOLE! very good, methinks - $5), which is just enough tasty substrate for those handmade margaritas ($5). I'm not a huge fan of margaritas, but these ones are more sour than sweet. Mmm...
Been here twice, never for a formal sit down dinner. I went once for happy hour and the margaritas were very tasty. $5 for happy hour, which incidentally, is the same price all day. Not a huge fan of the other drinks, but if you request a shot, they will whip up some sort of spontaneous tequila shot and they were all quite good.
The food wasn't that great, i don't get what all the fuss is about.
I came in here with a friend of mine after seeing an ad somewhere. We thought, Tequila bar? Fuck yeah! Their Maria is a tasty spicy drink worth trying out if you lean toward a drink with kick. Though the kick did lead to an almost stomach ache later.
My friend enjoyed some drink with egg in it.
The decor was pretty sweet, but the time of night we chose to roll in made it very crowded.
This place is worth a second check out. Im thinking happy hour! Good luck finding parking around here though, its a bit of a nightmare.
Better drinks then food on the second time around. Seems they have found their stride and it's the happy hour/drinking crowd. The Mole was pretty bad this visit but the drinks were good.

I just tried The Saint out for the first time a few weeks ago, and I loved it!! I've been there twice or three times now, but every time I've had a really good experience. As someone who is pretty darn broke all the time, their happy hour is excellent. Great drinks for $5, and the nachos and enchiladas were soo good!!
We had the nicest server one night, she was always on top of everything and did the "last call for happy hour" swing by, which was appreciated.
Oh yeah, and their bathroom was surprisingly great! If a place has a sketchy bathroom, I'm much less likely to come back. I'll definitely be back to the Saint.
When the Wing Dome went bust a year or so ago I always wondered who would take its place. Not until the place was painted sea foam green did I get really curious about going there..
One night a friend suggested going and we were off! I didn't know it was a bar specific to Tequilas but that was no problem for me as I don't discriminate my liquor.
What's unique and fun about this bar is that they sell low to high-end tequilas, mixed drinks, and infused tequilas. The best thing I've ordered are their samplers.. I find that they're the best deal and you get to try a few different drinks. If I remember correctly I had a strawberry infused drink and it was spectacular!
It's a neat place to stop in and try something new.
Atmosphere is hands down a 5 as well as service. Food is A-OK. Chips are a tad too salty. Guacamole app is really good with cilantro, lime, and salt. They have a great happy hour deal with 5 items for $5. I had the mini enchiladas, which hit the spot. However, I really wanted sour cream and The Saint doesn't have any available. I grew up in the Dairy State, so I HAVE to have sour cream with my enchiladas and tacos. No sour cream was a bummer.
Also had the Ceviche, a citrus marinade, which was pretty decent. However, the Camarones Diablo, spicy shrimp in tomato chipotle, was not good. Shrimp did not taste or smell fresh and this dish was a let down. My friend and I each had a half of a shrimp and left the rest on the plate. Believe me, I can eat my weight in shrimp without a second thought, but these shrimp gave me a couple of thoughts. Something was not right with them.
The Hermano, their house margarita is darn good. The Manana is good as well. I will return for drinks and Guacamole with chips, but that will probably be it.
I tend to avoid the block of olive way between bellevue and denny because it's loaded with dives and weirdos. The Saint is an exception. Specifically, this is the place to go if you are craving tequilla - many options to choose from. Reasonable food. Very cool bartender. A good place to stop.
Specifically, I recommend The Saint for happy. For starters, it goes until 7PM. Wells are only $3 and there is a menu of specialty drinks at only $5/each. The Hermano, their house margarita, is excellent. Happy hour also features 5 or so Mexican tapas. The mole tacos were good, served with beans and rice, for the price. The nachos were definitely above average. The portions are good; one is enough but you'll probably hit up a second if you have a few drinks.
Some guy set his hair on fire, releasing a putrid odor. The entertainment value (the horror on his 21-year-old girlfirend's face) made up for the grossness in terms of star rating.
Enjoy.
I was immediately drawn to the atmosphere of this place when I walked through the door.....candles lit on the shelves behind the bar, Spanish photos on the wall, and fitting music to match. I almost felt like I was in a different country.
My coworkers and I attended Happy Hour (5-7pm I believe), imbibing on $5 "Bebidas" (ie, very delicious margaritas) and a bargain silver bucket of 5 Coronas for $8. The chips and guac was unbelievably tasty, as was my main entree (cheese enchiladas with rice and beans). The staff provided top notch service (kind, attentive, and timely), particularly after hearing that a few other customers were rude to one of my coworkers when she kindly asked them if we could grab their table when they were ready to leave.
My only complaint had to do with just that (the table/seating arrangements).....they could use more tables. But they do well with the space they have.
I was most impressed with their margaritas, which says alot because I'm a harsh critic when it comes to my 'ritas.....
It's a really cute little space. The bar is only 5 or 6 stools long. I was on my way to the elite when I ran into some yelpers and had a drink here prior.
I had the honeysuckle. I didn't realize this was a mostly taquila bar. Everyone has that 1 bad experience w/ that 1 alcohol that turns them off for the rest of their life. Mine was taquila. I won't go into how (mostly because I don't remember, something about a house party in college and cuervo).
The drink was not nearly as sweet as I thought it would be, and the taste of the alcohol wasn't bad. I couldn't taste much of the honey that was supposedly in it, but it was still light and refreshing, I'd definitely go back for this drink.
The painted walls by the bar are interesting with black and white (I think) portraits, it was really dark in there when we went. I like the very .. minimalist feeling of the place, but it's not empty. A very warm welcome atmosphere.
The building is powder blue.
This place is too bad. I watched it being remodeled from Wingdome, super excited about what could be. It's so pretty!
But that's really all it is - style and no substance. I'm no tequila drinker, so their pricey flights hold no sway in my mind. Though (after I had to tell him how to make it) the bartender made me a nice Tom Collins.
The menu prices aren't bad, but the food is. The hot salsa lacks real heat, and the guacamole is super bland. I got the puerco pibil, which was sickeningly sweet and served with only 2 tortillas. And a side of radish wedges, shredded cabbage, and peas? Weird.
Things I like:
1. Building: Nice, spacious layout that never feels too crowded, feels intimate, lots of candles (wondering how long it takes to light all of them), and just generally upscale and nice without being too shi-shi.
2. Tequilas: Lots of 'em. I'd love to know if anywhere else has a better selection in the city.
3. Price on some things: I'm honestly effing tired of paying 8 bucks for a so-so margarita. They have a few selections (The Hermano, another one whose name escapes me but is essentially a pretty nice tequila sunrise) that are 5 bucks.
4. Mole: Not the best I've ever had, but pretty solid.
5. Guacamole plate: Some of the best salsas I've had since I've been in Seattle.
Things I could do without:
1. 14 dollars for the Fresas: Tried it just because I had heard someone on the radio talking about it. Strawberry-infused tequila...essentially a martini. It was an interesting and great flavor, for sure, but I'm not about to ever order another one. I'm picturing the meal I could've had in its place in my mind. Perhaps the Mole?
2. Service...sometimes is absolutely tremendous, and sometimes is just ridiculously inattentive. I've been in The Saint when there were 8 people tops, and waited with an empty drink in front of me for half an hour or more while the bartender gabbed with his buddy at the bar.
All in all, it's by no means dive-y, but it's a nice place to go with a group of folks and have a couple good margaritas and enjoy a fairly upscale atmosphere that isn't horribly overpriced.
Prior to this last spring when one walked up East Olive Way on Capitol Hill one was greeted by several sights: the often witty and always colorful signs hawking fried chicken or other delights at the City Market, a crowd of derelicts aka regulars congregated in front of The Crescent Lounge, the boarded up building that used to house The Wingdome, and Supercuts.
What a delight when in April along with the spring thaw we were treated to a blazing turquoise and white reincarnation of the old Wing Dome building. The building adds needed color to an otherwise dreary neighborhood.
The cheery colors on the outside of The Saint compliment it's welcoming and classy interior. The owners wisely kept all of the picture windows, which give the place a wonderful natural light during the day. While sitting there sipping handcrafted tequila cocktails one can gaze at the serious miens of Mexican bullfighters in all their black and white glory on all the interior walls or the trolls at The Crescent smoking. Both are equally entertaining.
At night when the candles behind the bar are lit The Saint is filled with an otherworldly light that plays over the tequila bottles (they have around 150 different types of tequila available).
Simple put I love The Saint. There seems to be a lot of complaint about the cost of the drinks, but in my opinion that is nothing but piffle: the annoying chatter of people that don't know a quality, hand-crafted cocktail from a margarita mixed in a bottle.
When you go to The Saint and I recommend that you drop everything and go now, here is what I recommend:
Drinks I love:
The El Diablo. It is a rather piquant little cocktail served in a bucket. The cocktail itself is tequila mixed with fresh juice, ginger and what I believe is crème de cassis. It is fished with a piece of candied ginger on a toothpick. It is the perfect combination of booze, spice and sweet.
The House Margarita. If your tastes run to Jose Cuervo's "tequila" and margarita mix your much-abused liver and taste buds are in for a treat. The margarita mixed at The Saint is made with fresh limejuice and above well tequila. Don't ask for no salt, the delightful and crunchy salt on the only ads to the flavor.
If you are looking for something a little lower cal I suggest you order shot of any of the wonderful tequilas they have on hand (I particularly enjoy Patron Silver, Don Julio Reposado and for less fancy evenings Hornitos) and ask the bartender to muddle it with oranges with a dust of cinnamon and pour it over ice.
Food I suggest you order at The Saint:
Dinner:
Puerco Pibil. I am not a huge Mexican food fan, but I know bad Mexican (I'm looking at you Torero's and Azteca) and the food at The Saint isn't that. The Puerco Pibil is pulled pork cooked slow cooked with a combination of spices, served on a banana leaf with rice and beans and tortillas. It is delicious, the spice combination ads the right amount of heat and the tortillas are good for sopping up the extra juices.
Chips and Salsa...a must. The chips are warm and salty, and yes they are a salty, as they should be, which only helps to enhance their flavor and the flavor of the salsas. The trio of salsas is tasty, one is hot, red and spicy, one is chunky with onions and tomatoes and is much like if not in fact a pico de gallo and one a green tomatillo based salsa that is nice after the heat of the red.
Brunch (weekends only):
Do you have a sweet tooth? If so I suggest you order the hot cakes. These lovely pancake like creations are smothered in fresh cream and strawberries that have been soaked in tequila to make simple syrup that only exists in one's candy coated dreams. For total diabetic shock (in the best way) order it with a mimosa.
Mollettes (pretty sure spelling is wrong) a traditional breakfast south of the border. This savory breakfast item is sliced baguette type bread smothered in eggs; queso blanco and black beans or you can go with chorizo. It is hearty and filling.
There is also a wonderful scramble on the menu that combines potatoes chorizo and cactus, yes cactus. Having never eaten the flesh of a cactus I was a little wary, but pleasantly surprised by it's springy texture and fresh flavor. It added something a little special.
So I am not accused of gushing I will point out that The Saint is a new establishment and does have s few glitches. The service can on occasion be less than attentive and an occasional dish comes out of the kitchen cold, but overall The Saint adds a necessary touch of class to a strip of East Olive woefully overdue for a face-lift. So save your pennies and pour your PBRs and Jose Cuervo down the drain hipsters and discover the delights of a cocktail that has some thought and craft behind it. Maybe order something to eat also, skinny jeans shouldn't hang off your ass.
You get what you pay for in life and when you pay at The Saint you get class and nothing but class.
My most favorite bar in the city. The El Diablo and the Honeysuckle are my most favorite of their drinks. I'm so pleased they've lowered the cost of all of their drinks because now I don't think twice about dropping in with friends to grab a few drinks.
The atmosphere is really really lovely, especially late at night when the tequila has warmed your belly a little.
Went here for brunch this morning and was pleasantly surprised.
I ordered the vegetable and egg tacos and my husband had the huevos rancheros. Both were excellent.
Service was a bit spotty but it was early on a Sunday and I think they just weren't totally awake yet.
Prices were really reasonable and the decor was really cute.
I would definitely go back and eat more. Maybe even have a date night and check out the tequila selection and ambiance in the evening.
If you make it to sainthood, you might think you have it made, but hold on a sec. They have patron saints for EVERYTHING - accountants, tooth pain, even the U.S. Army Field Artillery (wtf?). I mean, I bet St. Barbara thought she was going places, until she drew the "Gunners" card.
However, there's no patron saint of tequila. However, Patron is a tequila at the Saint. And it gets mixed up quite well with the devils of sweet and sour.
I felt a little ripped off with the $10 Jarritos margarita. Basically they take a Mexican soda in a bottle, dump out quite a bit and refill it w/tequila. Strong, but not worth it. Luckily, my next one - El Santo - restored the order.
Also, the sauce that the shrimp comes with should be bottled and sold on street corners in vial. That stuff is crack!
Tiffany's box on the outside, delicious tequila on the inside...really how can a girl say no!
The triangular shaped building catches the eye while driving down Olive, and if you haven't taken a moment to stop in, you really are missing out. The menu has every tequila imaginable, and the pricing goes from extremely affordable to drinks only a true "baller" would buy =). The hermano margarita is delicious...and only $5, at that price they just keep coming.
Delicious food, great ambiance, and friendly staff....thank goodness The Saint is here to take care of us all here on Capitol Hill.
Went for Happy Hour on a Wednesday... They have 5 choices of drinks and 5 small plates for $5 each. I had the Hermano (The Saint's version of a margarita) plus I sipped off my husband's El Toro (a drink made with raw egg whites). I personally could not handle the slimy texture but most folks at the table tried an El Toro of their own and liked it. We also tried the Mole Tacos which were very good. Their Mole has 21 ingredients which they proudly announce on their menus:) But personally, I think the rice and beans on the side of the taco were even better than the taco itself. Our server was extremely courteous and friendly. She rocked! Sadly, did not catch her name. Also the bathrooms are fun to go check out, fab decor! (Seriously!)
