Charming and intimate space.
I really enjoyed that this location was very low-key and mellow. A great place to enjoy a beer and chat with friends - just my kind of place. I love that you don't have to yell and scream over booming music or tons of other people's voices.
If you're a person that's chill, easy-going, let's-chat-over-a-beer-in-dim-lighting kind of person, this might be your place. -

Like the bar on the corner in every neighborhood. But classier.
I wouldn't make a trip to go here but it is definitely somewhere you need to go if you are in the area. -
Review from Danny P.
Me: I'll have a Captain Lawrence, please.
Bartender: Sorry, what was that?
Me: The Solid Gold. Or Liquid Gold. Wait, is that the name of the beer or a marketing slogan?
Bartender: Both.
Now, that's both clever and reassuring, because the taste of the beer was indeed that of liquid gold, and The Sackett is an enjoyable place in which to, uh, enjoy it. Small space, with a very dark, wood, one-step-above-your-parents-wood-basement-paneling kind of feel to it.
Either that, or as if it should have a sawhorse in the middle.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that the space is small, but they make up for it by having friendly bartenders, games, and one solitary tv in the corner they'll turn on if you ask nicely. No food, so bring yours in if you want some -- they seemed amenable to us ordering pizzas, but it was a Monday night. Not sure the same could be said on a Saturday.
Good place off the main drag down on 4th Ave, extending the influx of new bars leeching out from Atlantic down the new Brooklyn Magnificent Mile.*

This bar does nothing new but has the best aspects of a Park Slope neighborhood bar: a small and intimate space, quality jukebox, requisite board games (Jenga, Connect Four, Scrabble), and four quality (if hop-skewed) beers on tap make your draft choice easy. (Don't worry, there's a decent bottle backup as well). The bartender seemed laid-back and cool. I was here on a slow night but it's hard to imagine this place getting hectic.

The owner of the Sackett, Michael, was kind enough to message me, apologizing for my last experience at the Sackett. He offered to buy me a few free drinks upon my return. It was a heartfelt note, and completely unexpected!

Review from Lama B.
For a neighborhood bar on a rainy evening I really loved the vibe of this place. It is very laid back and chilled, and many people just came and sat at the bar sipping cocktails and chatting away a Sunday night. I am very bad at doing nothing, so we decided on a very competetive game of Scrabble. I gave Eli and George a head start, let them make up words and drank way more gin, St. Germain, and soda cocktails than they did, and I still won.
That in and of itself increased my love for this place and I think it will be great in winter. It's right across the street from my yoga studio, and although drinking before yoga is not encouraged, no one said anything about cocktails after. -

If I wanted to emulate The Sackett I would;
Put some chairs in my living room, pull out Jenga, put on my best playlist and call over my favorite friend to make me my favorite drink.
Okay so that was an absolutely bizarre way of phrasing how much I love this bar. It's not pretentious, you can hop in and have a drink alone without looking like a creepster and pathetic; unless that's what you're going for.
The bartenders are kind and interesting and will talk to you if you want, and wont if you dont. Once I have more money I am totally going to try to become a regular. -

You couldn't ask for a better neighborhood bar. I've been going in regularly for about six months now and have never had a complaint. The bartenders are amazing- really friendly, helpful, and happy to talk to anyone, especially Brett and Tim. The menu is constantly being updated and you really can't beat the cocktails, especially for the price. I also reserved space for a birthday party there in October and Ann, one of the owners, made everything so easy. Everything was ready to go when we arrived and I know everyone had a great time playing games and hanging out.

Review from Jia J.
On a Tuesday night, this tiny bar is super pleasant because there will only be a non-PDA couple out of your field of vision at a table in the seating area and a dude weirder than you at the opposite end of the bar. He will have body odor, but it will be mild, and you will know that the smell is not inherent to the establishment.
You will then essentially be alone to take out your copy of Atlas Shrugged and do your obligatory reading of Ayn Rand without feeling pretentious while you wait for someone who might or might not actually show up.
The attentive bartender will give his advice if you ask for it. He will let you taste the Campari if you admit that you haven't had the stuff on your tongue since you were 17 in the Caribbean, pouring it into a 3/4 full can of pineapple soda to avoid being caught by the chaperones of the marine biology program you were there for.
The drink will be $10 or more, but will be so stiff that you won't even think of the next one for a long, long time.
Just a warning: a chat with a friend. a shared Speckled Old Hen, and a few New Order songs on the good-songs-only loaded jukebox may result in making out in the street. But then again, no one will really be around, so it's like the tree that falls without anyone to hear it.Listed in: Jia's ROTDs

All signs point to a lovely evening out. Popped into this delightful little joint one low-key evening for a drink and a lively game of Boggle with the boy and had a great time. They were kickin' some good tunes(yay Sloan!) a-la Ipod belonging to the bar keep's g/f and I had a coupon for a free beer!
This is a pretty tiny space-cozy and intimate but perfect when it's not crowded. Apparently there are empanadas which I will certainly try at some point and some English crisps to choose from as well. Beware of the sweet smell of" the herb" which was wafting through while we were there. Also the WCs are teeny-tiny-mind your knees!
Don't forget this hidden sliver of a gem next time you are in the Slope looking for a good place to throw a few back and relax. -

Occasionally a bar makes you want to move into the neighborhood just so it can become your neighborhood bar. Sometimes a bar makes you wish you never entered that neighborhood, much less stepped foot inside that wretched establishment. You would be lucky if The Sackett was your neighborhood bar.
After only one quick visit, I am a fan of The Sackett. Fairly empty at 8 pm on a Friday, but fairly full by 9 pm. Completely friendly bartender and staff and nice patrons. The Sackett is small, but charming with about six to eight tables scattered about in addition to the bar. I have popped into many neighborhood bars in my days and this place was one that did not blink, it just kept on running.
Add to all this the fact that there are board games and this place is a true gem which I plan on revisiting plenty with expectations of adding that fifth star, possibly moving in and checking out the empanadas.Listed in: Drinking alcoholic beverages, BoCoCaGow

This is my favorite booze joint these days. Located on a side street in a desolate stretch of Gowanus, The Sackett is small but never crowded, the jukebox pumps out excellent tunes at a conversation-friendly volume and the bartender is super sweet. It also doesn't hurt that his generous pours and gentle prices ensure a quick buzz for those with a high tolerance and limited means.
The regulars at the bar will invite you to join their conversation and there's no shame in ordering a drink with just two or three ingredients. It's the perfect antidote after a string of fancy, sceney mixology places that left me broke, hoarse and thirsty for more straightforward libations and less pretentious patrons.
I'd recommend this place for a date, quiet get-together with a friend, and getting drunk on the cheap without the olfactory trappings of a dive bar. Think: More classy, less assy.
Some other things to note:
- Happy Hour (4 - 7 pm) Mon, Tues: $2 off drinks; Wed - Sun: $1 off
- About four beers on tap, one of which is Brooklyn IPA ($5)
- No food served while they await their inspection from the Health Department but they're stocked with more take-out menus than your local Chinese delivery guy.
- We once ordered banh mi from the super-quick Vietnamese place and the food arrived before the song finished playing on the juke box.
- On a recent visit, my $7 glass of Dark & Stormy was 2/3 rum and 1/3 ginger beer.
- This is my 200th review! (I'm expecting streamers and confetti to rain down on me as soon as I click the "post" button.) -

Cute bartenders and super fun/laid back. Drinks are reasonable and the music is great. It's a cute indie bar minus super crazed hipsters--and if there are some present, they can easily be ignored by the various other characters you'll probably encounter.
The staff is really great--my first time there I got there early while I was waiting for a friend who was late. I was only one in there and the bartenders very friendly and chatted me up while I waited. -
Review from Vivian H.
Bartender: Did the Hornet knock the wind out of you?
Me: Yea, it was pretty strong.
My clever compadre: You got stung!
On a cold chilly night, I darted down a side street and quietly entered this dark, unassuming, beautiful, cozy bar. Exposed brick, gold wallpaper, antiques and a small jukebox add just the right touch of intimacy and secrecy.
I started off with a Hornet ($8) which is made with tequila, campari, grapefruit juice, splash of grenadine. Although strong (the way I like it), I I would have preferred this with gin. After this, I swtiched to beer. A safer bet as I didn't want to get sloppy.
Everyone at the bar was super-friendly, chatty and acting in concordance with the Brooklyn Bill of Rights.***
I will definitely be back to enjoy some brews and friendly company.
FYI: They are currently NOT serving food. No empanadas here. That was disappointing (they were getting their empanadas from Bogota). They are waiting for a health inspection, and then perhaps will serve food again. But, they have a myriad of menus to order take-out.
Note: Mon and Tues $2 off drinks. Wed-Sun $1 off drinks. This excludes non-alcoholic.
***Brooklyn Bill of Rights: When in Brooklyn, do as the Brooklynites do! -

My favorite bar! Bonus - also in my nabe. The bartenders are cool and friendly. Cocktails are made well. They have their own concoctions and know how to mix a delicious classic as well. Good beers on tap, very low key atmosphere, outdoor seating for the warmer months.
They have games like Jenga and Uno if you want to do that, which I always do. The TV is hardly ever on. There is a jukebox or sometimes the bartenders will play their own music when it's slow.
They don't serve food, but you can bring in take out from where ever you want. This is an awesome option.
I am in love with this place.Listed in: My Neighborhood

Great bar! The bartender was really cool and attentive and the selection of beers, the cozy setting, the jukebox full of modest selections such as The Police, Prince, Stevie Wonder, Guns N Roses, and Peter Gabriel left little to be desired.
That said, the jukebox's volume was a little too loud, but other than that, I'm not giving this bar 5 stars because there was no food. -

I liked it. I went there for Tues. night trivia on a date about a month ago. It was fun, but HOT. Ok beer selection, although my first choice wasn't working....it's tiny, but has some good game selection and a cool vibe.

Brooklyn, NY
I really do like this place. It's small and modest with generally very good music playing (and they have a juke box!). The bartenders are ridiculously friendly and helpful and the drinks are relatively inexpensive.
But the last time I went there, I got into a little scuffle with another patron. See, we were playing Jenga at our table and this woman entered, violently knocked our table and therefore our game, sending pieces all over the floor, into drinks, etc. Obviously, I yelled, "JENGAAAA!" She did not respond. No smile, no laugh, no "sorry," no "Jenga!" Nothing. It was so weird.
Therefore, I'm a huge fan of the bar, not sold yet on the clientel. I'll go back. :)Listed in: Favorite Bars

Nice little neigborhood bar with some class.
Some high points:
- Good beer selection
- Great jukebox!
- Boardgames available
- Booths & outdoor seating
- They have a TV, but also had the sense to leave it off when nothing in particular's on.
The only thing that annoyed me was the bartender kept his hand on the knob for the jukebox, and would sometimes skip songs or crank the volume too high. -

Brooklyn, NY
This is a wonderful small bar with a wonderfully small bathroom. Tiny. Probably uncomfortable with people with claustrophobia. Great jukebox, moderate prices, dark, cozy, it's a sign of the 4th Ave. times, up and down the length of Park Slope/Gowanus with plenty of underlit glory to go along with the brews.
Is this the place you do a nightcap on a date, maybe with the ass-out hug? It's basically the opposite of Union Hall, and while both are awesome, you'll want to go here to get away from everything. I don't think it's cozy like in a pub atmosphere where you pick up conversations; I think it's cozy in you come to have a drink with yourself, listen to the music, and chill. -

The quintessential neighborhood bar that I'm happy to have right across the street. I haven't been there as much as I would like, but I from what I've seen the extremely friendly owners are there all the time. There are always a couple of great drafts for $5. Quiz night every other Tuesday is awesome, if often too hard for me (study your Brooklyn Paper).
Good music on the jukebox, intimate space, always friendly patrons. Speakers almost never fall on people's heads. A great presence in what is becoming one of the best beer neighborhoods in the city. -

Neat bar that was PACKED the Saturday I went. Whoa whoa whoa doggy. Got there around 9:00 and found a table - thank goodness - because by 10:15 this place was jam packed. I'm talkin' every square inch filled up by a mob of quasi-hipsters (that sounds more negative than I intend, but they were all really cool. Which is why they're quasi and not full-on hipsters).
The bartenders were EXTREMELY nice and the whole atmosphere is very comfortable. This is a bar that can be very chill at some times (9:00 on a Friday; Connect Four time, baby!) and can flip to high-energy at the drop of a hat (10:15). Also, the drafts were very interesting and I had a really good seasonal here (forgot the name). I have a feeling the owners choose those carefully since they're all pretty uncommon yet tasty. -

A cozy tiny bar just off 4th Ave in the confines of Park Slope. The place is more of a lounge and I would come here just to relax either alone or with a couple friends. The leather seating is comfy and the bartenders are nice and very talkative especially if you sit at the bar. The bartender really knows how to make a good stiff drink so be sure to tip him well if you plan on hanging out there for a while.

Super cozy! This tinier than tiny bar is perfect for snowy evenings. On Monday and Tuesday happy hours, Genesee Cream Ales are a buck. ONE DOLLAR people!
Quiz night is Tuesdays at 9 and story-telling night (known as the NutSackett) happens Wednesday nights one night a month.
Try to beat Ann, one of the owners, at Boggle. You probably can't, but if you can, you win a free drink. -

This is a totally laid back neighborhood bar with a good selection of coctails, wine, and beer. Prices are good and staff is really friendly too. I think this may be my new favorite bar in the area! It reminds me of bars I used to hang out at in Greenpoint when I lived there. Just very chill.
Edited to add that they have Boggle! And apparently one of the bartenders is quite the Boggle whiz so if you want some stiff competition she'll be up for the challenge. -

This is where I want to be in five years. When I turn 30, this should be my neighborhood watering hole. It's tiny but not cramped, with atmosphere but not attitude, drinks but not drunkards.
The beer selection is expertly curated (short but without any duff selections), and a buck below the neighborhood standard $6.'
I loved the games on offer: Uno, Jenga and Connect Four, and the juke box had a great mix of indie tunes and pop standards.
Top it off with a friendly bartender who gave the DD a free soda (giving me another taste of life in my imaginary 30s - never having to deal with the G) and here's a place up for return visit in less than five years. -
Review from Maddie O.
I love this place. Met a few friends there after work one day and had a decent time, not crowded, friendly service, totally normal. I went back on Sunday afternoon with 3 friends seeking air conditioning and a place to kill time. This place was perfect. It was almost empty except for the staff and another table. We had a few beers, and played 3 of the boardgames they have available. The bartender was really attentive, coming by to collect glasses, get refills, take orders for empanadas, reccomend which quirky potato chips we should order (prawn cocktail, mighty good!) He was nice enough to lend us some pens and paper for some other goofy game we wanted to play. Oh, and the bathrooms are clean!
I can't speak for this place on a busy friday or saturday night, but it is perfect to kill a few hours on a lazy afternoon! -

Two dollars off Mondays and Tuesdays means that Genee Creams are one dollar. That's right: a buck a beer, even in enn why see, friends. There is no reason to grab a beer anywhere else those days, unless you don't drink swill. ('course, if you don't drink swill, you can always get a generous pour of Michter's for six bucks those days.) Oh yea, and the empanadas are decent.

New York, NY
This review will be short and sweet, just like this bar: a relatively new watering hole that is a welcomed (and conveniently located) addition to Park Slope, and which provides a nice alternative to the 5th Ave scene.
It's just small enough to make it feel very warmly cozy, but not so that it is uncomfortable. And what it lacks in space it makes up for with friendly bartenders, reasonably priced drinks (and even outright cheap especially with their happy hour special), and board games.
This place is perfect for a few drinks solo at the bar, a low-key date with your future wifey or baby daddy, or with friends. I didn't try any of the mixed drinks so I can't speak to that, but my best mate Johnny Walker was reliable as always.
They take credit cards, but with a very reasonable $10 minimum. -

LOVE this quaint little spot in Park Slope! It's got a great vibe and the bartenders are great (talk to Brett or Michael...they concoct great cocktails!). The juke box is great and when that's not playing, the bartender plays a real good mix from the ipod. Great for a date or a night out with friends! Games are available to play (uno, scrabble, etc). Overall, The Sackett is really GREAT!!!

This seems like the place to bring a date. Every couple in the bar were making out. It was pretty funny and encourages smooching and flirting. Maybe it's the cocktail selection, the nice bartenders, the dark cozy atmosphere, the Jenga or the happy hour special. Fun place, small.

We popped into the Sackett for a pre-dinner drink and loved it. Great tap. Mixed drinks are well made and creative. The bar is small and intimate. It was quiet and felt like such an escape from busy 4th Avenue outside. If you want a great drink in a quiet, friendly, relaxing atmosphere, this is your place. Perfect for pre-dinner drinks on a date.

Tucked away off 4th Ave in Park Slope is this awesome bar that feels like a living room. Maybe it's the board games available at the bar, maybe it's the good music and maybe it's the cozy atmosphere, but in a neighborhood full of bars, the Sackett stands head and shoulders as my favorite.
Happy Hour from 5-7 on Monday and Tuesday means $2 off drinks. I'd suggest getting the most bang for your buck and ordering a Genesee Cream Ale for $1, but all of their drinks are reasonably priced. Beat Ann, the bartender, at Boggle and win a free drink. -

There is nothing bad I can say about this place. It's a true neighborhood bar with great people and great drinks. I love the old fashioned cocktails and the special attention the owners give to every person who walks in.
Try a good old "Old Fashioned" for a great simple bourbon drink. I'm still waiting for the perfect night to try their "Jalapeno Daiquiri." Their cheap beer is Genesee Cream Ale which beats buying a Pabst for the same price at another bar.
They have trivia on Tuesday nights and a storytelling night on Wednesdays which I highly recommend. I like just going in on a random night for their amazing happy hour ($2 off everything, which means $1 Genesee Cream Ales). They also have all kinds of word games.
It's definitely my new favorite Park Slope hang. -
