The Ruby of Crested Butte B&B
2 reviews for The Ruby of Crested Butte B&B
There is nothing better than waking up to the smell of fresh bacon, looking out the window and seeing over a foot of fresh powder at one of Colorado's greatest ski resorts, Crested Butte. The only thing better than the skiing was the food and accommodations at the Ruby.
There are 3 essential components to a great B&B: 1. The Bed. You have to have an overly comfortable bed that you never want to get out of. 2. The Breakfast. The menu needs to be fresh, nutritious and creative. 3. The Inn Keepers. The owners or managers need to be attentive, interesting, fun and friendly. I must say that Andrea and Chris excel in all of these criteria and much more.
Staying at the Ruby we felt as if we were staying at our really good friends house (who knew how to serve up a great breakfast). If you are staying in Crested Butte, summer, winter...whenever you have to stay here. It is walking distance from downtown CB and right next to the bus stop that takes you to the mountains.
The Ruby is the next best thing to home. It is comfortable, clean, quaint, cozy and not cramped. And you can bring your dog! Chris and Andrea have done a fantastic job with the place. The breakfasts are absolutely amazing. The beds are super comfortable. What a great place to come back to after a day out snowshoeing or skiing. Hot tub, fireplace and hot chocolate : ) Try it out and you won't be disappointed!!

History
Established in 2005
The Ruby actually began as a simple conversation of dreams while on vacation in Crested Butte in 2004. While visiting over the Fourth of July holiday weekend, they collected advertisements from the various real estate signs listed in front of properties that were for sale. They laughed at how much more expensive the property in the area was than back in Denver, where they lived. On one particular flier, they noticed that it was originally built as a bed and breakfast inn, but it hadn't been operated as such for several years. "Could we open a B&B?," they asked. "Is it possible?" Andrea commented, "Let's let something else stop us; let's not stop ourselves!" Numbers were run, concepts were proposed, banks were harassed, careers were 'placed on hold', and nerves were frayed, but five months later, Chris and Andrea arrived in a very snowy Crested Butte without a dime being borrowed from family or friends. A few weeks later, on January 1, 2005, The Ruby welcomed their first guests.
Meet the Business Owner: Chris and Andrea G.
Chris and Andrea are part of a new era of B&B owners. Andrea was born in Alabama, where much of her family still lives, raised in Virginia and Chicago, and graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder. Prior to moving to Crested Butte, Andrea worked as the Human Resource Manager on an acquisition team within a non-store division of The Home Depot - basically she helped the big boys buy up mom & pop's around the country. Chris is a native of Nebraska, was raised in Arizona, and graduated from high school in Longmont, Colorado near Boulder. After getting his degree from the University of Wyoming, and a two year stint as a financial analyst for Mirage Resorts in Las Vegas, he moved back to Boulder where he earned his law degree. After passing the bar, Chris worked in the Governor's Office of Economic Development where he served as the Associate State Director of Small Business Development. Basically, he helped mom & pop's get purchased by the big boys!
