You would think this iconic venue with its reputation would be the size of an astrodome or at least a really large Target.

Um, no.  It's fucking tiny.

What's not to love about a joint that has 32-oz beers for $11?  And it's not your typical shit beer like Bud Light.  No, Bob.  They got Anchor Steam and Stella Artois on tap to satisfy your "refined" palate.

Sure this venue is GHE-TTTTT-OOOOH.
It's run down, somewhat stale-stenchy and smelly. claustrophobic in some parts, and there are some creepy labyrinthy nooks which are rife for hosting either a murder or a clandestine snog and much much more. big nasty more.

i happened to be an unlikely witness, but not a partaker, in a particularly lewd and lascivious tryst that took place on top of some backroom rusted steel machinery thingamajiggy. i think it was a bavarian maid getting hit up by some sort of bleeding toothless sniveling ghoul.

how a propos for Halloween weekend, methinks!

But really. There's no reason to come here for the (non)ambience.

Sometimes one has to remember it's All. ABOUT. tha. MUSIC.

So, after my going outta town for H-Ween Weekend Plans IMPLODED, it was time for Plan B.

Tonite, 'twas a mesh of ridiculo phat groove amid a tribe of arms and legs akimbo, hands in the air, spin around drop down looooow, raise the roof, funk-ass kick back, chill, head-bobbin' almost break-dancin' gonna make you sweat DJ-set workouts of the most brilliant sort, AKA:

**the Dutch Downbeat-Electro-Breakbeat-JazzHouse stylins of KRAAK AND SMAAK

**Miami-NYC-by way of D.C.'s Trip Hop-Film Score-SpyFi-Exotica-Breakbeat-Worldbeat Phunk of URSULA 1000

**And Two lesser Spindrift sets from an underground hip-hop outfit called the Fort Knox Five, as well as a zombie-esque stumbly rave from the Good N Plenty. mmm. mmm.

Despite the quickly alternating rabid shakin' insanity and trance-ey chillaxin' goin on, the energetic crowd numbered barely 40 at its peak. ummm, yea and the place holds like 300 or more.

The joint woulda been packed to the gills if we were in London. Tokyo. Paris. Barf-elona. Melbourne. Amsterdam. New York. Fuck, just about ANYWHERE else woulda been epic and kinetic.

Alas. I take it L.A. is content to RAGE more on the mainstream.

Speaking of, I had to barrel-ass it back down to RAGE itself down on S&M Blvd so i could re-join the rest of my peeps i'd abandoned, namely--the fag hags and gay boys and other straightees in our group.

Yep. Finished the night in that sweaty sardine can.

So, Kraak and Smaakers, Ursula 1000-heds, et al. I apologize for my unappreciative, clueless city.

You guys slipped in under the radar and presided over a virtual graveyard, save for the few, the restless-leg syndromed, undead gyrating spirits amongst you of which i was proud to be one of 'em.

Heeellls Yea!

See you guys next time in the E.U.R.O, yo!

DONE.

Though the Roxy is a good venue to see music, if i were you i'd be very careful giving the ticket office staff your credit card information to buy tickets for their events.

we called their ticket office last week and used a credit card that we hadn't used for 6 months to buy tix to an upcoming event.  not 2 days later that bank called us to let us know that someone was trying to use that credit card info to make suspicious online purchases.  we weren't liable for the charges and the card was quickly inactivated, so in the end no harm done (to us at least).  but no telling if this happened to other folks that passed on their credit card info the the Roxy Ticket office last week, so i thought i'd put the word out.

and just to be clear... i'm not disparaging or accusing the "management" of the Roxy for any wrong-doing, and i understand that you can't always control the knuckleheads that you hire for minimum wage to field these ticket calls, but no matter who is at fault, the "identity thief" was likely associated with that transaction the bank fraud team informed us.  i have heard that the same thing happens from time to time at restaurants or conveinience stores when a "rogue" employee tries to work a scam.

so happy the fraud department flagged this for us, but others might not be so lucky.  BE CAREFUL FOLKS!

I came here to watch a friend's concert: FeelGood.  Ciao Stefan!  And ended up meeting so many cool people from other bands who I just fell in love with!  One of them was Aijia!  She is amazing and part of a Soul-funk band that I can't get enough of!  The bouncers were so warm and cheerful and so were the bartenders.  I support any theatre or concert hall who supports local bands with some severe talent!  Kudos and thank you so much for being around!

I had wanted to go to the Roxy for-EVER.

This past Saturday, there was an after party/show with the Grooveline Horns from Jason Mraz' band.  My best friend was super excited for this show because she is literally obsessed (no joke) with Mr. A-Z.

Most of the venue is standing room only, but there's a seated section to the left of the stage.  The show itself was a lot of fun, Jason Mraz was there singing and rapping.  Surprisingly, Jason came down into the crowd and danced with his fans.  Lots of people took pics, including my best friend, and it was pretty exciting!

A friend of mine is in the band and so we got to go upstairs / backstage to hang out for a little bit after the show.  Inside, the walls were covered with different stickers and show flyers.

The venue itself is quite small and intimate, but that makes for a good view no matter where you are.

Sunset Blvd, the history of Hollywood. Growing up with old siblings was such a pain at times.  I would hear them talk about going out to places in Hollywood and how they would always have a fun.  In addition, being that I was a TV baby, I always surrounded myself with disenchanted media that always portrayed Hollywood as a place to be at.  That or a place where all the celebrities would go and get drunk and do drugs.

Fast forward 20 years and I find myself at the Roxy.  I've been around this area of the Sunset strip where the infamous Viper Room and Whiskey a Go-Go are also located at.  Every time I drive by around this area, it gives me a weird feeling that River Phoenix died in front of the Viper Room.  Sad sad day.

But on a positive note, I was at the Roxy recently to see Little Boots, a UK electro-pop singer.  Mind I add, an awesome musician as well.  I didn't know what to expect of the Roxy thinking that maybe it will be a little grungy and I might see celebrities and or a bunch of biker gangs hanging around the area.  I was wrong.  Instead of grungy, it was quite nice inside for a live music club.  I mean compared to the places where I would go back in the day to see bands in Orange County, this is quite tip top.  They have a full bar, tables/lounges that you can actually reserve and AIR CONDITIONING.  I don't know how much I can emphasize that.  Air conditioning is a must at these places.

As for the crowd, I guess it depends on who's performing but this place is pretty hipster in a sense that a bunch are dress the same way.  You know, tight jeans, a-line hair cut, plaid/flannel, fedora hats, etc...  Not that I care but I just laugh because I never knew it was cool to be hip.  In that case, count me out because I'm not hip at all.  I'm considered more of a douchebag by some people.

The drinks are pretty stiff here.  But prices aren't cheap as well.  What do you expect, it's Hollywood.

The sound system could improve.  But since the venue is quite small, the volume is way loud.  I couldn't hear my friend talking since they were blasting that shit.  They really need to adjust this and add more volume to the vocals and less to the instruments.  Either way, Little Boots rocked it with her Tenori-on.

Overall, it was a fun time.  i can see this place turn into a little dance club if the right people come and perform like Steve Aoki or MSTRKRFT. You know hipster electro music shit.

Bo Burnham, that skinny 18 year old silver tongued devil from Boston.

That's who we saw when we went here.

Came here on a Thursday night, but we were coming in from Orange County so we left the OC around 5 and got here around 630.

The line started from the door and went to the end of the block for this truly talented but offensive silver tongued devil from Boston.

The venue is small and intimate. The performer is right in front of you and you can see him nice and clear. They served appetizers and drinks before he came onstage. The price was up there, but they didn't serve it with pretentiousness as if it was made of gold or something. If you can help it, eat before coming. The food was just OK and so were the drinks, which were served in (gasp) plastic cups. I guess that's the precaution so in case the performer enrage the audience and the audience decides to pelt the performer, they'll be plastic cups instead of (gasp) glasses or bottles.

Oh, we got to sit down, so ask before you come over if there will be seats or not.

Parking was OK and fairly easy that night but then again, it was a Thursday.

The Roxy is a great venue. I don't care about the distance. The venue and the act, that twinkie from Boston (oh so talented), made it all worth it.

Go find an act you'd wanna see here and go see him/her/them. You won't regret it. I promise.

Super cool, intimate venue, with a low stage, and no barricade. Plus, it's on the legendary Sunset Strip. Not sure how the bar is, but as far as concerts go, this is a great venue. It is mostly standing room, and I believe in the back there are some cozy little tables. Parking can be hard to find at first, but there is parking located almost directly across the street from the venue. All in all, great venue. Plus, you never know who you will see here....Jimmy Page caught a taxi, after exiting through the alley after the dead weather show. Great place to see a show.

TIP:  I didn't have my ID with me when we went in because I wasn't drinking. They charged a friend and I each like $5 because we didn't have our IDs. It was basically a quick way to get $$$ from people, because they don't warn you ahead of time ( and most venues just wristband people who want to drink). Moral of the story: bring your ID.

THE classic Sunset place to see bands. This place has been around foreeeeeever. It's "all ages," so it's a good place to get your start as a cool kid when you're young and just starting out with hitting the scene. I have seen more shows here than I can count and, aside from getting a parking ticket almost every time, I have had a good time. It's a good-sized venue. Small enough for an intimate crowd and large enough to house more popular acts.

Very small comfortable atmosphere here at the Roxy.
With the stage so low, the band and the crowd are practically one.

Only thing that gets me angry is the two drink minimum fee
and how the doormen enforce that bull on those under 21. Other than that, it's a small intimate place - along with reserved tables and a merch booth that you practically have to pop your head through to see the cool gear.

As soon as you walk into The Roxy .... you feel IT.

What exactly is IT that you feel?

Well the IT you feel is the history of course.  I mean as you drive along Sunset and just look around and see all the historical landmarks, The Roxy is one of those landmarks.

But that's not all.

The IT I'm talking about is not just the history .... IT has many meanings .... When I came to The Roxy to watch Katchafire

http://www.youtube.com...

Guess what ... it was all ages.

So the IT I felt was both old and young at the same time.  I mean there were teenagers there that were not old enough to drink but from the smell of the place, they sure were old enough to smoke.  At the same time I seen a couple fools who could've passed for Bob Marley himself if he were still alive.

Also the IT I felt was being both rich and poor at same time.  I mean when you charge $13 for a Maker's but then serve it in a plastic cup, I really didn't know what to say.

Don't get me wrong ... I'd definitely come back if there was a band or artist that was playing here that I'd want to see but I've definitely experienced better venues.

Come back and experience IT for yourself ...

I think there must be an ordinance in Los Angeles that any girls who plan to be on Sunset between La Cienega and Doheny after the sun has, in fact, set must dress like strippers.  Except, of course, for the lovely Stephy S., who I had the pleasure of meeting last night at the Roxy.

The fact that I almost always get parking tickets when I go to the Sunset Strip gives me a bitter association with all of the venues on it.  The Roxy is on the short list of places that I don't mind rolling the dice to visit.  It's not so small and cramped that the volume makes your head feel like it's going to collapse (like a certain venue whose name rhymes with "sniper loom"), and that also means that there's space to shake your groove thang.

I'm always a bit thrown when I see drinks served in plastic cups, but they have a kick to them, so who am I to complain?  Plus a lot of good bands grace the stage, so there's an easy pairing that makes for a good night.

Just saw Nico Vega at the Roxy and it's really a shame that that place hasn't changed a lick in years. All that's different is that they've painted everything black.
The lighting is still the worst, and they still don't have anyone working a spot light. The bands were all dimly lit, or lit with a red light. Very hard to get good photo here with a digital camera and no flash.
Drinks are very expensive. I didn't want to do their "special" of a Bud and a cheap tequila, so my Corona and shot of Cuervo cost... wait for it...  $17!
Plus way too many children running around. Little elementary school kids were in there after midnight!
The floor around the stage was extremely sticky and now I wonder if I tracked something all over my car's new floor mats! Hmmm...
The west end of the Strip has so many vacant businesses. Maybe one day someone will build a new rock club, because the big 2 are very dirty and old. Making bands pay to play in these clubs should mean they at least put doors on the restroom stalls!

There's nothing "classic" about the Roxy other than the sign out front.

Oh, and they have insane street parking too. There's a 2 hour limit before 10 pm, so if you get there at 9 pm only put in enough money to get the one hours worth. You can't get more time out of the meter until AFTER 10pm! SO then you can add more quarters. Bring at least $3 in change!
Most of the parking lots there were charging just $5 on Tuesday night, so that's probably the better way to go. That way you don't have to worry about running to have to fill up the meter when the bands go on late.

Oh how the years they have passed...

I used to pretty much live at the Roxy. Having been a music industry die-hard and schlep for over 13 years, there was a pretty strong chance that one of my bands or a friend of one of my bands would be playing here each week. Back in the day, I saw Linkin Park play here before they were signed (gotta love work). I sweated through a Summer show of Pete Yorn's when the air conditioning went out (not fun). I saw early Incubus (awesome), The Hives (awesome attitude-ridden fun) and Bad Religion (I think they've played here since I was 12) play way back when here way too many times to count and the scandalous nights spent at On The Rox... oh don't even get me started :)

Friday night was the first time I've been back here in about 3 years and wow, I am old. Granted it was an all ages show for Billy Boy on Poison, which were quite good, but standing their watching the same room I had strutted my way through, double fisting drinks and shit talking in slip dresses and combat boots, for over a decade, it all just seemed kinda surreal. Instead of double Kettle's and sodas on the rocks and shots galore, here I was painfully sipping terrible wine because the idea of hard alcohol seemed a bit much.

After the band played and we decided to stay for the next band and it was all we could do to try to talk our way into a table, which meant a 2 drink minimum, but who cared, it was a place to sit our old asses down.

Oh how the times have changed.

But in looking back, I lived through and partied enough for a small army during my time in the rock scene. My liver has seen enough Jaeger shots, my attitude has had enough bitch fests in the girl's bathroom here and I definitely supported enough struggling musicians and did my part for the economy. So, I leave the Roxy happy, solid and totally cool with handing down the torch to the next reign of rock chicks. Enjoy it, girls, I wouldn't have traded it for the world!

Whoa! Came here to see a new and up and coming artist Zee Avi. She is pretty awesome if you havn't heard of her already. http://www.zeeavi.com. A little mix of Ella Fitzgerald and Norah Jones with that easy going make you feel good Jack Johnson vibe. Her teeny weeny malaysian accent makes her music even more unique.

Tix sold out on ticketmaster but the Roxy allows you to buy them at their box office on the day of, which if we didn't call, we would of missed the show. Make sure you line up early so they don't sell out at the box office as well. Cheapest parking is $7 in a garage half a block down.

Stage set up is awesome. Seating arrangement is good pretty much anywhere in the Roxy and I think it can be standing room or first come first serve seating depending on the show. The Roxy is a lot more spacious than the Hotel Cafe yet still has the quaint up close feel that the Hotel Cafe has. The back offers a little lounge if you want something cozy  that's not right up front at the stage.

Sound was awesome, but i think mostly because the performers were awesome. I would definitely come back for another show. In fact, it looks like the Roxy will give you free tickets to a show if you yelp them. I'm all about free stuff! 4 stars Roxy!

My first time at this venue was to see Patrick Wolf perform. Since then, I've seen a couple of other local performers up on stage, and have always found it to be an enjoyable time.

Upon arriving, you'll notice that the place is an intimate venue, allowing for a relatively close view of the artists on stage. This is why The Roxy makes for a great place to see a singer/band that you really love. From all the times I've been there, the events have been general admission, so things are first-come, first-served.

From my experience, the staff is friendly and helpful. The bar is big, but bring money, as drinking can begin to add up quick. Overall, this is a pretty cool place to see a performer you like.

A solid, decent venue. Not my favorite in the slightest, but not one I'd dread going to if someone I loved was playing.

I went here for the Nylon Summer Music Tour, which had a great lineup (Jaguar Love, Living Things, Plasticines, and Patrick Wolf). I didn't think the 25$ ticket was too steep a price to pay, especially for the raw talent of Patrick Wolf. So let's review the pros and cons.

Pros:
-Intimate venue - you can get pretty close to the performers
-Parking isn't a problem, we managed to squeeze into a 5$ until 2AM garage just across the street
-Decently priced tickets
-Free cups of water at the bar (they charged me a dollar for tap at the Troubadour...that's just unpatriotic)
-It's on Sunset in a good area

Cons:
-Okay, I'm generally not a squeamish person, but the bathroom was FILTHY and it didn't have soap...
-The two drink minimum
-If you're underage, you have to buy a "drink ticket", so you pay 3$/person for nothing
-Nowhere to sit, really...

So that wraps it up. Decent venue. I'd come again.

I've been rockin' out at the Roxy since I was like, 15, and the Roxy still sold merch in the front lobby and had tables in front of the bar (I miss those). I love the ambience of this place, and how it's sectioned off (dancefloor, bar, VIP booths, lobby).

It's intimate as far as performances go - not as intimate as say, the Troubadour, but that's a good thing. You can be as close or as far away from the band as you care to be.

I'm in LA trick!

I went here back in mid December for the first time.  It was a lot smaller than I thought it would be.  I didn't hit up the bar because I wanted to be sober for the show.  My plus one said the drinks were good but pricey. This place gets four stars mainly because I wanted to see LMFAO put on a show and they did. It was a packed crowd but everyone was into their performance.

Yes! The party's rockin, Yes!

As far as iconic venues to see music go, The Roxy is a must-visit for the sole reason of visiting a very famous venue that hosted performers from John Lennon to Miles Davis to Nirvana. Yes, The Roxy has certainly seen it's share of brilliant musicians. However, if you didn't know the history behind The Roxy, it would be just another divey, low-budget music venue that now sees the likes of tribute bands and Taylor Hicks (I guess not all American Idol winners become, well, American Idols).

Cons:
- Very small, which also means very smelly when packed.
- The bar - unfriendly service and pricey drinks.
- Terrible lighting. I felt like I was at amateur hour at the Punchline.
- The sound system and acoustics were horrible except for one sweet spot in the middle of the floor.
- Who is the promoter? They need to be fired. They booked my favorite band in the middle of the week with two (terrible) openers. My band did not go on until almost 11pm. Hello, some people are still working in this economy.

Pros:
- It's The Freakin' Roxy!!!
- The backstage area and green rooms are unbelievably cool (see attached pic above). If you get the chance to get back there, do it. Every inch of the hallways and green rooms are covered in amazing photos and signed posters. My favorite? A very cool b&w pic of Bob Marley and his entourage.
- Lots of places to park, at least during the week.

Despite my minor complaints with The Roxy, I'll be back when a band I like is booked. But I need to really, really like the band. And, although I admittedly voted for Taylor Hicks on AI, my next visit won't be for him.

I took my hubby here for his birthday.  We were entertained and jammin' in the ADA seating section when Raphael Saadiq performed last fall.  It took a long, long time for Raphael's set to start.  If it hadn't been for the ADA seating, we probably would've had to leave because all tickets were general admission only.

Sitting in ADA section happened to be next to the VIP seating section.  We were within arms reach of Farnsworth Bentley, Eddie Murphy and other notable African American entertainers throughout the night.  There were also some record label reps there:  Columbia, Sony, Universal, etc.

Janelle Monae opened for Raphael and she was FANTASTIC!  She's a very vivacious retro-punk, R&B type of performer.   She does the college scene and other small venues.

Overall, we had a good time despite the long wait for the show to start.

Great, fun club for anyone wanting to check out the Sunset Strip Scene. There's a little papparazzi out front any night and plenty of people watching from multiple vantage point.

Once inside, you'll enjoy a small club with nice elevated stage and a rear bar that sells tall cans of Bud Light -- my personal favorite. Prices aren't bad and their tiered VIP section over the stage has some nice sight lines. If you're there too see the band, there's not a bad spot in the club and the sound system runs strong.

There's a crazy mix of folks at the rock show I went to last night. Tons of 90s era rock porn star and old metal dudes, combined with some young almost hipsters and the drunk look-a-likes. Non scenester peeps are actually pretty nice, which is an emerging era in Hollywood. I often find people are much more approachable in LA and Hollywood than they are in Orange County.

All in all, a great place to experience if you like rock or dance music.

I was forced to a show here once.

-roommate left me to fend for myself as she made out with the singer of some shitty band.
-was sober
+there was a chick fight outside after
+some photographer gave me his business card
-the photographer invited me back to his loft. gag.
-some kid asked me if I was on myspace
-got home at 3am, and had to work at 6am

The venue is pretty chill though.  The sound was good, it wasn't too crowded and the cover was only ten dollars.

i've had some of the best time in my life at the Roxy and seen some of the best shows. Incubus, Snot, OneSideZero, Camp Freddy with Ozzy, Linda Perry, Juliette Lewis...are just one amongst many others.
I'm not much of a drinker so i go for the shows, and i always have fun.

Still the best place to see a band PERIOD!
There are great clubs all over the place in LA.  The east side has come a long way and the Troubador gets a lot of good talent but there is nothing better than seeing a show at the Roxy.
Going tomorrow night and I can't wait.

The first thing anyone needs to know about the Roxy, is where to park.
That is across the street in the structure, its usually $5-$10 depending on what night of the week you are out on. If its a holiday such as Halloween plan on paying around $20.
This is the best location to park because they do not close the structure so if you are partying and leave your car until 4 am, you can still get it out.

Okay, the only way in my view to roll it the Roxy is to get what they consider "VIP". Its a raised area with the only chairs in the venue. You dont have to buy a bottle, just a two drink minimum per person. Which come on, most of drink far more than that in one night anyways.

However if you choose to be part of the standing crowd which usually turns into a mosh pit on the nights I attend, there are two locations to get your drinks. The male bartenders at the main bar play stupid but if you ladies so a little cleavage your drink will be more than you can handle.

I would recommend ladies holding your pee pee as long as humanly possible! The bathrooms are not clean to put it nicely. There are only 3 tiny stalls that usually are lack seat protectors and toilet paper.

All in all its a great venue to see your favorite band. Its average priced for a Hollywood venue with good service and plenty of standing room.

I get a warm and cozy feeling when I think of the Roxy.

Maybe it's because I'm always drinking when I'm there and the place gets packed. The best part is it never gets too packed where you have to start throwing elbows because the drunk bastard behind you is falling/rubbing up on you. (Haha! You know it's happened to you too.)

It's dark, small, loud, and always good times.

What you should know:
1. Park across the street next to the restaurant for 5 bucks.
2. Chug a beer before you go in. Drinks are small and not cheap.
3. Cameras are allowed...(awww yeah.)

P.S. For added entertainment, read what chicks have been drawing on the bathroom walls. Drunk girls are hilarious!

Nic Adler please listen up and communicate THIS.

I don't hate your bar. It's Hollywood history. Any rock n roller can tell ya that the 70s were iconic, musically speaking.

John Lennon, Alice Cooper and Keith Moon all clinked the ice around in their glasses, shared laughter, and kept the seats warm with their talented arses at your bar, man. One of my favorite Frank Zappa albums woudn'ta happened if it hadn't been for The Roxy.

BOWIE played The Roxy. Oh do I love David Bowie.... I could listen to Hunky Dory endlessly... Space Oddity... Ziggy Stardust...Pin-Ups...even Diamond Dogs. after the split from Spiders from Mars, ranks high with me... !

Legendary, Nic..... (((((((sigh)))))))

What rock n roll dreams are made from.

The Roxy has experienced its fair share of turbulence in these latter years ... I hafta be honest with you... I couldn't care less about what's going on at your club now. I haven't even heard of 60% of the acts you have coming through your doors now. And $10 for a frikkin cocktail? I know ten bucks is becomin' Hollywood norm, but jeez, man... how about enough booze where I can actually taste the liquor? It makes me weep inside. The crowd has become lamer, too... but it no doubt coexists with the lame acts on the bill. Meh.

I don't want to feel this way, Nic.... I wanna see The Roxy rise up like a phoenix, man!!! Fiery! Intense! Excited!

Cheaper (or better ABV, that's 'Alcohol By Volume'...ahem) drinks and better acts. I know you have it in you!!!

Go get 'em, tiger.

I thought I'd already reviewed this joint? Hmmm, I must be slipping in my old age.

I've been to tons of shows at The Roxy, a few years ago, it was quite a shithole. I went recently and they pulled a remodeling bit, to my surprise. It was no longer a safety hazard.

Drinks are expensive, so drink when you park, or take a swig before entering. That's all I'm saying.

I have not been back, because no one that I want to see has played this here joint.

Mushroomhead, I'm waiting. Wait, they'll be playing HOB. See what I mean?

So lately it seems I've been taking a lot of pictures at this place.  I like the lay out of the place and the cozy atmosphere.  I really like that it's small and intimate.  The bouncers are nice and have never given me a problem about my camera, whether I've had a photo pass or not.  The acoustics are great too.  The booker is top notch because they always have  great bands here.  The only beef I have about this place is the drinks are way over priced.  But I guess that's what you get from a place on the hollywood strip.  This is definitely one of my favorite places to hear a band!!!

if it weren't for its iconic status and history thus the music acts that it books...i would not come here.  its old, run down, needs a remodeling badly, all-ages (meaning a guaranteed crowd of teenie boppers), no sitting room whatsoever, and the drinks are a bit weak.  i'm still going to end up here a few times a year just to catch some musicians who i'm in to, but other than that...its definitely not a top venue.

tip: parking can be had for $7 across the street.

ROXY!~ what can i say?  i came here and fell in love with the artist Zee Avi~ We tried to get tickets off ticketmaster and they sold out, so we ended up going to the box office, WHICH give u cheaper tickets anyway, unless u use ur credit card~ Roxy lesson: please pay cash~  Parking can be found around roxy ranging from $7-8 dollars which is pretty cheap considering its on sunset, but then again i went on a wednesday night.  The bathroom reminds me of the movie nick and norahs infinite playlist.  Theres graffiti all over the doors complete with stickers and broken bathroom handles.  But i suppose it adds to ambience of the roxy.  Come to watch a show, enjoy some $6 dolla fries and have a beer~!

It's the Roxy.

For the most part, it's pretty indistinguishable from the other similar-sized Hollywood Venues. Which means it's good quality and everything.

Okay, I'm going to give you the quick and dirty, none of this sentimental memory crap that everyone else is saying.
Approach this venue as if it were a football game: "gain positoin"
I love the Roxy! It's a place for young people [40 and under depending what band] because it's all unreserved general admission and sometimes it gets brutal. But not too young, leave your 11 year old bro at home--it's just not an appropriate scene for youngins'.

To Gain Position:

Prepare to leave with bruises some people are very pushy to get to the front.
Get there early, so you'll get the best spot in the house, right against the stage. I cannot stress how awesome it is to be so close to the artist, it's like the best feeling in the world.
Plus: All of the acts come through the front door and they take pictures and talk to the people standing in line most of the time, so this is a great opportunity!
If this is your first general admission, I suggest this is not the best place, since you have to "gain position" for your spot--or bring an experienced friend.
For the "shorties": I have never seen anyone here that is strikingly beastly or overly tall. Perhaps, it's because I'm a giant myself, so I don't notice, but no one should have a problem seeing.

Will Call Tickets:

Have a friend stand in the regular admission line, while you stand in will call [which doesn't open until 1 hour before the show starts, despite whatever they may tell you].

Parking:

The parking structure next door, it always has parking and they're standard size spots [not those tight ones made for clown cars]. And parking is like $8.00 on Friday and Saturday. But Sunday and Monday it is like $6.00.

Have a great time and create wonderful memories. aww.

Rolled through here last night to check out some dope bands.  Some of these acts are very collected, and their music reflects it.  Friday nights, I suppose the bands that have already seen some mainstream radio success are out.

I don't think they open doors until 8:00.  We arrived early, and they just make you stand outside.  I think you could easily just go backstage and carry in a guitar amp or something and baam! You're part of the band.

If someone asks you, just be like "Don't you know who I am?"
Haha.  Don't forget your stunner shades.  Drinks: Pricey.  I saw a fair share of high school and younger people in here.

Diet coke:  $4.50.  Get out my face w/that bullsh*t!!!!
Sip Redbull for $5 instead.

Maybe they are monopolizing on the teeny-bopper crowd who came to sip kool-aid and hawaiian punch.

It's an intimate venue, the lighthing is great, sound is excellent, and you can see the band well from almost any spot inside.
