I've been coming here every since they have opened as I live 5 mins away.  Whether's it dinner or lunch, I've yet to walk away disappointed.  The lunch buffet and soda for $8.99 is a complete steal.  You would think they would put out only cheap pizzas for the buffet, but instead they have the same great pizzas available as dinner.  Lunch buffet includes salad, pasta, lasagna, and desert pizza.  I can only do this once per month or I would gain some serious weight! =)

Service has always been prompt and friendly in both the bar and dining room.  The kitchen can get backed up when it's really packed which is not uncommon.  This place does very well on the weekends.

My favorite two pizzas, Ohh That Smell and Crazy Train!  Don't forget an order of Brown Sugar Mozzarella bread and if you want an app the Buffalo Wings are awesome.

I've personally visited four other Rock's in the chain and this one in Federal Way was by far the best tasting.

DESERVES 0 STARS. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE & ICKY BUGS.

I was recommended by my family to visit The Rock for dinner, as it was SUPPOSED to be one of the best places to eat in the area. Unfortunately, the Federal Way location disappointed ALL when we visited Saturday 1/21/12. The wait was 30 minutes, which was ok with us. We had a drink at the bar while we waited. It was surprising only ONE bartender was serving a packed house and mildly packed bar. She did an awesome job despite the crowd. I asked her about the military discount that was published in the Volcano (local paper) and she didnt seem to have any knowledge of the advertisement. She asked a few other staff members and management and no one seemed to care or have any knowledge. I wish I would have clipped the advertisement. The 15% discount would have been nice. After we finished our drinks, our table was ready.

We were met by a rude and impatient young lady named, Kyndra. (yes, i mention names). This young lady could use a class on stress management and customer service. While we had compassion for the pressure to serve a packed house, Miss Kyndra didnt seem to know how to manage her set of tables OR service them with a smile. I couldnt believe, how many times she came up to our table and would WALK AWAY before we got to finish telling her something. She was short in her responses and seemed to be consumed in trying to manage her responsibilities. Listening skills could be improved as well as the level of patience.

The table had SEVERAL small gnats flying around throughout dinner. Flying around our appetizers then dinner when it arrived. VERY DISGUSTING. I told the manager when he happened to be cleaning the table behind us. He claimed to have no knowledge of the bugs and provided an insincere apology. I didnt care too much for the apology, i was seeking a solution... move us or SOMETHING!!! Nothing was offered. Nor did he even bother to return to check on us or the bugs.
    CUSTOMER SERVICE 101!!!

The food was decent. I expected more from what my parents had said they experienced at the Tracey location. I asked Miss Kyndra if there was a Margarita pizza on the menu. She said the "Stairway to Heaven" was a margarita pizza. Ummmm, I dont think Miss Kyndra has ever had a margarita pizza. THEY ARE NOT THE SAME. Although, i wasnt pleased, i ate it anyway. The combination of LEAVES n meats on the barely cheesed pizza was just disappointing. Not impressed. The greasy artichoke dip was average. My daughter wasnt impressed with the kids pasta. She ate about 5 bites and said she didnt want anymore. My mother had 3 bites of her chicken strips but the overwhelming swarm of bugs ruined her appetite.

While my mother isnt one to complain.... I am not afraid. The bill was $80-something for 4.5 people (4 adults and 1 kid). RIP OFF for the poor service and experience. I split the bill with my parents and Miss Kyndra n her delightful attitude got $0 tip from me.  I refuse to tip a bad waitress. Had Miss Kyndra served us BETTER, i would have tipped generously as it would have been well deserved.

Management and the staff need some classes on management and customer service. It was apparent a lot of pressure was put on the staff. The management didnt know how to control a packed house.

The bug issue was disgusting and who knows how long thats been going on. If a "company" is going to publish a Military discount maybe all locations should be familiar with the advertisement. Even if all locations arent offering such a discount to the armed forces, the COMMUNICATION should still be made to local franchises. Everyone i asked looked around like they were lost. Sad.

I am not happy about my experience at all.
I will be visiting from California again SOON... The Rock is NOT on my list of places to go visit when I come back.

EMAIL SENT TO MANAGEMENT (via website link) 1/22/12 - No response.

Do NOT order the artichoke dip unless you do not like artichoke dip and then who knows maybe this would be good to you?
It tasted "off" and getting sick is not my idea of a good night! ( really it is true " when in doubt toss it out...the dip was so awful I put my chip down before I took a second bite..and only drank part of a very skunky Carona
Maybe I am a pizza snob having grow up in a So Italian neighborhood
But whatever on this pizza it tasted like a cracker...stale cracker

Sorry you guys ...I had wonderful companybwho had a great time

I love this place.  The art work is great as is the atmoshpere.  I use it for business sometimes because we can grab the buffet then grab a booth.  Not to loud, so we can chat.   For friends and family it is great as well because you can get a beer or something stronger if you wish.

Oh, and the food is great.  Kinda odd to see some of the combinations on the pizza, but it works.

I stopped in tonight for a pint and to add another growler to my collection (31 now).  I've been here a couple times before with friends and although the pizza may be a little spendy....it is unique and tasty.  I had great service at the bar tonight....only $3 pints.  11 pm....may have been happy hour?  Growler fills are expensive here ($13).  I just got an empty this time which was only $4.  A new growler with fill is $17 which is pretty average for most places....just won't be coming here for a fill-up. The music is always great.....it's The Rock!

Usually I have a difficult time eating at a theme restaurant. I don't know - the decor, the gimmicks, and the bad food are some of the factors that keep me outside of their doors.

But when my pregnant wife muttered those three loving words as we drove down the 5 freeway from Seattle to Portland, I knew I had to make a quick stop.

    "I am hungry."

I got off at the nearest exit and the thought of wood fired pizza appealed to her appetite. After all, we've visited the Sammy's Food Fire Pizza in Fountain Valley numerous times and we enjoyed ourselves. How bad can it be?

    Ha.

The decor was... cheesy. Is that appropriate because it's a pizza place? Maybe. But the red and amber colored stage lights all over the restaurant didn't impress me. I did like the rock music they were playing instead of elevator stuff and the tables which were fashioned after traveling case lids for instruments.

The service was great. Our waitress Lisa was helpful, friendly, attentive, and all-around great.

The food. The food was less than mediocre. Perhaps it's the wild combinations of toppings that are "rock and roll crazy" - but it just did not work for me. The crust didn't really have any of the wood-fire smell or tastes either.

I don't know - it just fell below my expectations. Perhaps my expectations were too high? Whenever I go to Sammy's, I can tell the difference. At this place, it tastes like delivery pizza... or Digiorno... with wild mix of toppings...

    Eh.

Delicious pizza, cool decor, and a drink that comes in a bucket with a shovel. Jackpot!

My friend and I came here recently after she had gone on and on and on about how fabulous it was. We ordered the California Dreamin' pizza, and while neither of us are fans of tomatoes, the entire thing was amazing. Their garlic bread was mouth-watering carb-heaven goodness. And the bucket drink? I've had better, but still very cool!

In two words - too inconsistent.   Our daughter had introduced The Rock to us in Auburn and when we heard one was coming to Federal Way - we looked forward to it.    At first the crowds were an issue - long waits but that has gone away.   Very seldom is there any wait wonder why - perhaps my opinion is not only mine.

Our favorite pizza is the Can't Stop Rocking which when made right is great but it is only made right about 1 in 3 times.   But then perhaps the other 2 times are correct and the 1 time is wrong.    LOL     I personally feel for the price and the inconsistency it is not worth it BUT if it is correct - well worth it.   Hoping they will get their act together.

Well, I'm pretty impressed with this pizza joint. It's at a good location and easy to find. The manager and the chick bartender were extremely friendly. I had no problems with the employees.

Beer: I'm just glad that they are making their own micro-brews. I'm a pretty big fan of the Red...I wasn't impressed at all with their low cal pale ale. It was bland and even the bartender agreed that she wasn't a fan of it. My other one ended up with the porter, which he loved, since it tastes exactly like coffee.

PIzza: The pizza is probably the best I've had in a long time. It tasted like when I went to visit the other one in NJ. Since being from the Midwest, good pizza joints are hard to come by. And presently living in the PNW, good pizza places are very scarce.

Then the other one and the manager started to talk (of course it's about baseball), found out that the actual owner is from Boston. So he brought the Boston/NYC pizza back to the PNW. So, it's extremely different than the regular pizza like Pizza Hut, Anthony's, Garlic Jim's, etc.

I say give this place a shot... you won't be dissatisfied.

Its kinda silly of me to really like this place, but I do. hahah.

We came here after a day at Wild Waves and ordered the Sweet Surrender pizza and the buckets of cocktails. The cocktail was surprisingly good and what, $7? I just checked and it looks liek they don't make the Sweet Surrender anymore which is too bad.  I am going to miss that spinachy, honey goodness!

A lot of the pizzas sound excellent though and they have a great thin-crust.  They all have super fun names and this place is fun and casual overall.

I really want to try their lunch buffet sometime! haha.

Haven't been to this Rock for ages but decided to drop  in after finding out my taco destination closed early for the night. Busy Friday night, waited about ten minutes until we saw a group leave from the bar. The "Buckets" here are wayyyyyy better than Renton. Might not be as good as they had it when they first opened up but cant complain much. Order White Christmas pizza i think it was and also something else with pesto. They were "okay....." the hot wings i enjoyed very much though. Two 9" pizza's, hot wings, two buckets, and an order of garlic bread came out to a little over $50. It wasn't bad, kinda wished i went to the korean bbq place instead for that money.

Overall: pizza is better than a lot of places, "bucket" is better than the Renton Rock, too busy and too much money for my liking.

We had a group and waited over an hour to get seated. The hostesses never gave us any 'updates' on which table we were going to be seated at.

The experience only got hell of a lot worse.

It was 8:55 pm by the time we were seated, and the waiter took our drink orders. When he came back, I asked what time happy hour is and he told me, and just walked away.

He came back to take our order for food, and his personality totally changed.

Everyone got their food.. and there was an absence of NAPKINS at the table. SERIOUSLY? What do you expect us to use? Our clothing?

A friend had to ask for some napkins, and NOT EVEN close enough for the group to use!

He kept getting our checks mixed up. I understand it was a big party, but he kept putting the wrong drinks on checks, and it wasn't just once or twice, but three times. My friend was fed up and just paid for a beer she NEVER ordered.

The only thing worth coming here for is the Bucket.

This place has gone downhill. Its just run by a bunch of kids.

Ughh...I only come here because they can accommodate larger groups, otherwise, I probably wouldn't eat here very often.

The only things worth getting are the Mozz Bread and the buckets full of alcohol.  Otherwise, the pizzas aren't very good and I'd rather take home a Papa Murphy's take-n-bake pizza.

On another note, does it bother anyone else that the bathroom stalls are BLACK??  I realize that they have toilet seat covers....but if I can't see whether or not the toilet is clean, I feel weird about using the bathroom...it's gross.

First time to The Rock, not a bad experience. It gets really packed on the weekends.
Had their white christmas pizza which was not bad, if I had tossed some pepperoni on there it'd be better. Also had the wings and the garlic bread as an appetizer. The wings were mediocre, something you get from the frozen section at the store and you bake it yourself. The garlic bread was pretty much flatbread pizza with cheese and garlic, not bad. Service is ok, it was busy so not as attentive as I would like.
Overall it was an ok experience.

This place is fine. I've always liked the pizzas and usually order pastas during my visits. A good thing to catch is the $10 lunch buffet. It comes with a soda but for $1 you get a beer!! NICE!!! A lot of pizza, pasta, and salad, but I got sick of it after so many times.

They are quite creative with their premium pizza ingredients where are quite delicious. Assortment of sauces, hams, smoky bacons, sun-dried tomatoes, goat cheese, etc... the pepperoni is also huge and great.

The Bucket: Everybody talked about it so I had to try it. People talked about having 1 bucket before a movie and getting fffaaaaaaded.... in the Renton Landing location... NO. I've given it second, third and sixth chance as well. It just tastes like a VERY delicious fruit soda with a SPRITZ of alcohol. BS for costing close to $10. THIS Federal Way location however... has redeemed the Bucket reputation... First sip and the alcohol with GREAT CERTAINTY is present. I slammed the whole thing, which is still easy because of its fruity deliciousness, and a Hard-A type buzz kicked in. We were curious if starting to serve it as a pre-mixed drink made it suck but it's more about location now. Renton Landing Bucket = Suckit. Federal Way Bucket = Heck yes.

I only come here when my friends meet up for pizza and drinks. The pizza is OK, but I'm not a fan of the crust. I prefer thick or deep dish crust, and this is thin crust land. That said, I do like their Founder's Pie. It has ricotta cheese clumps on it, and I love ricotta. The drinks are OK, but the drinks on the menu are over-priced. Order something from the bar, and not the fancy ones on the restaurant menu. I don't go here by my own choice, but it doesn't kill me to come with 10 friends, so I give it a "meh."

Decent food and service here but I've had better. I ordered a burger with no bun and no cheese and somehow it came out in a wrap. I didnt even mention a wrap but only asked for extra lettuce to make up for not having the bun. Thought that was a little strange. Their HH options are decent and their Bucket drink is a good deal during HH.

    Items Ordered for Carry-out:

    - Plain Cheese Pizza.

Decided to try 'Carry-Out', because it was dinner rush hour and I was sure there were people waiting.  I called ahead and they told me 20 minutes.  I picked it up on exactly 20 minutes and opened the box (ie. check to make sure I received correct pizza.)  It was actually slightly wild, so I was a little disappointed that it was very possible my pizza had been sitting there for a little bit.  Overall it was good, but if you do order carry-out, get there earlier.  Heck, if you do get there early, you can eat as many of the Dum-Dum lollipops/suckers while you wait.

I had the lunch buffet with salad and a drink for 9 something with tax. Not too bad at all.

The lunch buffet had a good selection of there specialty pizzas, and not just a bunch of single topping pies. They also had a couple pastas to choose from and a soup. For the price I would say it's a pretty good deal.

I also really enjoyed their wood fired crust. Crispy, chewy, and buttery. MMmmmmm!

We've gone to this location about once a month for a year. The main dining room is too loud for us so we hang in the bar. With several sports bars in the area this is a good place to watch football on a Sunday afternoon. The bar is open and bright with lots of televisions about.

Hubby is currently hooked on the French Onion burger. Here is the breakdown Burger of the Month style:

Bun - Large kaiser style that holds up well

Burger - very thick and juicy with "french onion" seasoning mixed in - it's not too salty but tastes a bit like Lipton's Soup mix?

Veggies - large dill pickle slice, heaping mound of shredded iceberg (always super cold) and tomatoes that may or may not be tasty and fresh.

Cheese - gooey Swiss with sauteed onions mixed in almost making a second patty.

He usually ends up eating the extra cheese, onion, and lettuce after the burger is gone.

Thing twice before getting the regular size... it's huge... the petite size is more than enough to keep the carpenter happy :-)

You can sub out the fries for a salad... regular or Cesar.

I love the Walnut Pear Salad... the mixed greens are OK, but the vinaigrette is great with PILES of pears and plenty of blue cheese crumbles.

Ok so the food isn't anything special. They have mediocre pizza for really affordable prices. The best deal is if you come for their lunch buffet. For only $8.79 you get all-you-can-eat pizza, pasta salad, salad, soup, and a soda. They are constantly bringing out new pizzas and if there isn't one out there that you want, tell them and they'll make you whatever pie you want and they make it fast too!

I have to echo the previous review about the lousy service at this restaurant.  I've been here 5 or 6 times since it opened over the summer.  Ordered takeout pizza maybe 3 or 4 times.  I LIKE the pizzas and salads here, but the service is TERRIBLE.  The food itself is worthy of 4 stars...the service a -1.  Hence the 3 stars shown here.

Even with takeout, they've "lost" my order on 2 different occasions which required me to wait an additional 30-45 mins in the bar.  To make matters worse, the staff was not the least bit apologetic.  I was met with a "we lost it, oh well" sort of attitude that I did not appreciate.

I would probably NEVER come back here if it wasn't for the fact that I really like the pizza (crust is not greasy at all, just the way I like it) and that it's close to home.

In short...come here and try the food to see if you like it.  Have very, very low expectations on service and you won't be disappointed.

I've never written a review on Yelp, but I had the most horrible dining experience in this restaurant.  I saw some good reviews for the other locations, and I can't speak for them since I have never been there before.

The service stunk.  Our waiter took literally almost 20 minutes to get our drink orders.

The appetizers came quickly and we liked the chicken wings and the fries, except the fries came dumped with melted american cheese on it, which I didn't like at all.  I expected when I ordered it that it would have shredded cheddar, or some similar real cheese.  They did not specify on the menu that it was american cheese.

We also ordered a chicken caesar salad which was very very bad.  The chicken on the salad was so disgusting that I almost sent it back.  It wasn't real grilled chicken, it was the kind of chicken that you get in the deli aisle at the supermarket that has fake grill marks on it.  It was limp, flavorless, and plain gross.  I doubt it was ever on a  grill.

We also had ordered a pizza (the founders pizza) at the beginning of the meal, and our server completely forgot to order it for us.  So we were waiting for over an hour, no pizza.  So he comped the pizza, which I thought was nice.  But once we got the pizza, we wished we never had it.  It seems since he forgot to put in the order for the pizza in the kitchen, they rushed it.  It was undercooked and flavorless and runny.  The others in my party had this same pizza at other locations, and had liked this pizza before but this one was completely disgusting.  We ate very little of it, took it home, and threw it away.

You couldn't pay me enough money to go back to this restaurant, ever.

    edit:  this place still sucks.

For a couple years now we've always passed by and noticed this place.. Never really knew what to expect. I've had my fair share of this style of pizza and expectations are always high. So finally in the mood for Pizza and not having much selection in Federal Way we decided to come here.

The first thing you do notice as you arrive is the dim lit style atmosphere. The colors that decorated the place did some how complimented black backdrop this place had. It worked and felt right. With Rock playing in the background to the fire colored lamps that hung at every table, it really maintained its image as the name and its logo suggested. So far impressed :)

As we entered we where immediately greeted and seated. For having only an hour for lunch prompt service is a plus! Also there was a buffet offering that came along with the place. Didn't expect that. Since we've eaten twice already at a buffet this week, we passed immediately and dove for the menu. There where plenty to choose from here. From appetizers to a vast array of specialty pizza's, all baked in a wood oven there was much to get excited for. With so much to choose from we didn't hesitate to ask the waiter and host for recommendations. After a few mentioned favorites we finally ordered, what we got was OK, nothing to special about it. But still satisfying. For appetizers we chose the onion rings. It was heavy on the oily side but none the less good. Nothing better then freshly beer battered rings, not that frozen type. Unless its Red Robins :)

Lunch was decently priced as the regular 12" Pizza was about 15$, for 2 its not going to break your pockets. There is just plenty to choose from here but what stood out the most was the theme of the restaurant. Kinda has that Hard Rock Cafe feel to it. The pizza we order was OK, nothing to get excited about but I'm know that there is still so much this place has to offer and everyone eating seemed to be enjoying. I will come back for a second go. Enjoy!

Man I'm glad they opened that place.

They just make very very good (and different) pizzas.
I've tried several, white or red sauce and like them all, the common team is thin crust, wood fired and fresh ingredients, resulting in a simple yummy pizza.

They have some pretty decent beer to go along with it.

Also my wife ordered a burger there (also wood fired) and that was a very good burger too.

I just love those pizza, disappointed in most other places since trying this.

TIP: this place (pizza/bar) gets very crowded at times, especially on the weekends, and when it's full they seem to have a hard time keeping up, so if you want the best pizza try to go out of the main "rush".

Came in and split a pizza with my Dad.  It was good, if not a little too greasy.  Crust had nice flavor and the toppings seemed fresh.  Service was much better than the Lynnwood location and restaurant seemed cleaner.

Didn't drink anything at this location, but I'm sure a bucket will always taste like a bucket!  I'd be back if I were in the area and needing a slice of pizza...

There is so many places you will be able to get superb pizza, salad, pasta, burgers..but what is hard to get especially when you have young people as waiters/waitresses is superb service, except at the ROCK!

Now granted, it seems that all the servers that have endeared themselves to me have been trained by Sam but obviously whomever was in charge of hiring did an amazing job as well. And if that was Sam, somebody please give that woman a raise.

So usually I try to be good and economically good and cook but sometimes you just have one of those days at work where nothing goes right and all you want when you come home after a long day and commute is to be waited on in a fun environment in great company (aka as husband) and have a better night then you had a day..so that's when lately I have chosen to go to the Rock. Today was no exception. I had a HELL day at work...one of those sheesh I would quit if I could but I can't DAYS. So once I got home from good old downtown Seattle, my husband knew by taking one look at me. Off to the Rock it was. Here is how our evening went down:

Upon arriving, the waitress remembered us from before. (Over the past couple month she had waited on us twice) She remembered our drinks down to the warm glass for the beer. The night was starting off good. A big smile, and great service. This continued down to the minutest detail to the biggest smile. By the end of the meal I forgot how miserable my day was and how much I enjoyed coming to the rock and yet another amazing server. You can tell that they enjoy working there by how great they take care of us.  So here are my top servers

Erin (cute and blonde with big googley eyes, can't miss her)

Sam( soon to be married off and leaving us)

    Nick(we love you)

    and of course EVERYBODY Else

    ps..thank you

I love wood fired pizza and this place is a favorite. I am not a fan of thick crust pizza, preferring thin crust so I can taste the toppings. This place has it all and is always packed. Out of town guests enjoy this place too and one can get a beer or drink if they are so inclined. The place looks to be in an old warehouse, but it is a new building. I do not like the parking lot, but not everything in life is perfect.

If you were awake during the heyday of rock music and you're not a vegetarian, come here and indulge!

Yes, the main room is dark with a definite industrial feel - road case lids for tables, album covers for wall art, etc. Think back stage at an arena concert and you get the idea of the decor.

The service I had was great and I've been there three times - two lunches and a Friday night dinner. Maybe the people who wrote about the bad service got bad servers, but I did not.

The food selection is very broad - pizza obviously and other selections which I have yet to try - every time I go with people we wind up ordering pizzas or else trolling the lunch buffet - which is a nice way to sample the different selections - although I think maybe they kind of rush some of it out to keep the trays full - it goes fast at lunch.

Also they have a full bar that is separate from the restaurant, which is nice if you decide you want to hang out at the bar and oh yeah maybe we should order some food

All together this is a really nice place - geared more towards the over-thirty crowd I think. Not a lot of Kurt Cobain on the walls - I can just see young people going in here and looking at the album covers and wondering ...

Parking is catch as catch can - it's located in a strip mall and there are a lot of spaces but the ones near the restaurant will be full at meal time.

The place does get loud and crowded during peak times so be warned, but I think it definitely is better than some of the other peoples' experiences suggest.

Give it a try and decide for yourself.

The ratings have it just right. It's a place of extremes. Some good some bad.
The good: pizza, the bucket, a few of their beers are good, happy hours decent.
The bad: all food but the pizza, price, a few of their beers suck, no draft but their house brews.

Well I just had an important meeting here after work!
Was hungry since I ran out the door cuz my mgr asked that I come to work early on my late day.
So no lunch, did go to sushi, he paid awesome!
    Was hungry no dinner.
    So we ordered Happy Hour:
Wings, quesadilla, & 2 pizzas off of the menu, plus drinks... very nice!
    4 stars!
Service was good she seem disappointed that we weren't buy alcoholic drinks, but she than just did her best, and I tipped her accordingly, cuz she changed her attitude, I was happy, and she was too!
    I reward good behavior! 3 1/2 stars
