The Rob Roy has been changing over the past year. I walk in tonight, sweaty from riding a bike and causally order a world class mai tai with house made orgeat. A man comes in and sits next to me, he wears a long sleeve t-shirt, a vest and what is at least an 18 gallon cowboy hat.
He says:
I want a Martini, but with Jameson and put an egg white in it.
With little to say, the bartender takes this cluster fuck of an order and makes a cocktail that "sea-bass" announces as "awesome" to all in the bar.
And that is the change in the Rob Roy. It is becoming a true world -class cocktail lounge but is no less a great super weird neighborhood joint, all welcome and only expect the best.
You know - I really want to give this joint three+ stars but the Friday bartender is SUCH a hipster D-BAG that I just can't justify more than two stars. Oh, and it doesn't help the cocktail waitress is a b*tch, too. Seriously ya'll (meaning employees) - the music may be loud. And we may be obliterated (or so you think) - but every little word ya'll say? Carries into the the entire bar. Think before talking sh*t :)
Hate this place on any other day that's not a Wednesday, where the bartender and staff aren't such a-holes :)
First, I receive the worst customer service by a bartender who refused to make me a certain drink and then scoffed and scowled when I ordered an alternative. And then, he steals my money! The most insulting service I have ever experienced.
CHECK YOUR BANK ACCOUNT. The bartender added an additional tip to my tab that I did not authorize. After calling the management, I have still not received my money back after two weeks. They offered no apology and did not comment on the insulting service. Thanks for stealing my money Rob Roy! I will not be back and continue to spread the word about your awful service and disregard for the customer!
Dark, charming, attentive servers. What more do you want? The crowd is pretty diverse which makes for some nice people watching. They don't have any beers on tap and their wine choices are limited, but they've got lots of other drinks. This a nice place to stop in for a drink or two on your way home or out for the evening. I hope to be back sometime soon to check it out more.
After eating at Wasabi Bistro, my friends and I decided to go have a drink or two and hang out. We came across Rob Roy. We decided to go here strictly because the logo on the outside, double R's back to back... it looks similar to the tattoos that me and my husband have (For us it stands for Ru&Rae our nicknames) . Anyways, we went here cuz my friend thought we needed to go, hell we might get a free drink, worth a shot right? Wrong.
First off the bartender seemed like he couldn't be bothered. Very snooty, but hey we were in Belltown, it could almost be expected. We all ordered a round of drinks. RIP OFF, come to find out we were charged $9 each for what can only be described as a gin-sour served in a fancy martini glass. WOW. Throw in some ice and a straw and I could have gotten this drink for $5.50 at a normal bar.
I dug the decor of the place, but that was about it. Needless to say I will never go back!
Zane rocks the house. Best bar I've ever been to out west. They get a good drink.
Rob Roy encompasses my ideal bar.
One that doesn't try hard to be cool, but simply is.
The interior is sexy w/ a twist of character: interesting patterned wallpaper, low-lighting, long, dark framed mirrors, a boar's head on the wall, library of well-placed books, black snakeskin by the purse hooks under the bar, GOLDFISH-filled glasses, inventive cocktails, sweet logo, 'lax seating perfect for mingling and patio to get some fresh air. The only thing I'd fix are the blah bartenders. They weren't the friendliest and one even snagged the goldfish glass I was snacking out of. Minus 1 star.
If I lived in Seattle, I'd come here all the time. Stopping by whenever I'm in town will just have to do!
Nice space, cool art, groovy decor, great drink menu....sounds like the usual Belltown haunt, right? Think again!
Came here with 3 friends and were attended to right away by a hipstery server -- the drinks were strong (Dark & Stormy and the Sidecar were early faves), and it never got too crowded...no small feat for Belltown on a Saturday night!
Clean bathrooms to boot. I'll be back.
I really love this place. Relaxed, but with a buzz and a perfect place to catch up with friends and people watch. Such a mixed bag of people--popped collar pretty boys mingling with cougars, ironically clad in animal print camisoles and pencil skirts that are horribly ill fitting. But everyone still has a great time!
Live DJ that was actually really great (who am I to judge? But I do anyway!) and they make a STIFF drink. 2 vodka sodas and I was doing festive leg kicks! Overall, a great place with a great vibe. Loved it!
Haven't been to this place since it has changed its name from The Viceroy. It's always been a great place for conversation over wine and music. I fell in love with this place the first time around because of the live DJ playing some really dope original funk and breaks beats. When I came back there was funk, breaks, and jazz music but no live DJ, which was fine, the music still suited the environment and perfect for the company that I had with me since we all enjoyed that type of music. The place hasn't changed much in aesthetic, still decorated with various analog music equipment and studded leather against their walls. They have a couple of lounge areas that are setup perfectly for communication between parties. I love the vibe here: dim, mature, sexy, grown. The owner was very hospitable and interactive. Definitely recommended for starting and ending a party night with drinks and conversation. October 8, 2009.
It was the Vice Roy and now Rob Roy but it's still a great bar. How can you beat happy hour until 8pm? The atmosphere reminded me of the old Vegas hotel bars you see in the movies. The character of the place is fun. A great stop in Belltown.
The Rob Roy used to be the Viceroy. New name, that's about it. Small, dark, intimate. Good place to start on a Friday night.
Have you ever loved a place, and told lots of folks about it, and then when a friend is in town you bring them in to see it? But then there's some snotty staff member and it pops your bubble?
Well thank God that did NOT happen when I came in with my date in bike helmets. friend... we were riding so I told the waitress we were not staying to drink - I just wanted him to sit on the couch and see how it would be to come here again.
She said Oh please, we are not busy, just sit and relax. I asked about the new name, and she explained. She even listened politely to my dumb Rob Roy drink story. She was very nice about explaining the drinks without being pushy or condescending. As much as this is an hip, eclectically swanky place (Like "I dreamed I was in Dean Martin's ski chalet....?), at least this time, the feeling was relaxed.
Anyway, no I am not her mother - I asked her name because I just thought "Kay" deserves a big shout out for being the employee every owner should have representing their business. Not that Linda needs any help, but. Okay, so.
CHECK BANK ACCOUNT AFTER YOU LEAVE!! I made the mistake of using my card here and when I checked my statement online a couple of days later I saw that the bartender had given himself a little tip that I didn't authorize. He also did this to my friend who used her card that night as well. The bartender was beyond rude and after ordering a drink he just rolled his eyes and said "no" and then actually had the audacity to snap at me when I didn't order my drink when my friend was ordering hers. I thought I was being polite and patiently waiting until he was done with her order to give him mine. After he treated us so horribly my friend and I both decided not to tip. This was a big deal for us since we both have worked in the service industry and have never not tipped before but I couldn't stomach the thought of even giving this guy a dollar, especially after I had tipped him earlier in the evening for another drink he had made me. I have been calling Rob Roy repeatedly asking for the manager and leaving messages and have been getting blown off; my friend did get a hold of the manager and he just asked her some info and apparently didn't even seem concerned and didn't even apologize. I would think your employees STEALING from customers might be of some concern, but who knows..this probably happens here all the time and maybe they are hoping most people won't notice. I can understand not having the best night at work and not being terribly friendly to customers but I absolutely cannot understand STEALING FROM CUSTOMERS!
