Review from Diana M.

For my 100th review, I wanted to write about something special. I can't think of anything more special then The Rent Party.
I learned how to swing dance in college from my best friend. He is probably one of the best Lindy dancers I know. I had so much fun dancing, however my senior year I decided to stop. Flash forward to October of last year and my friend, who is also a fellow yelper asks me if I would be interested in trying blues dancing. At lot of things were happening in my life and I needed a change of pace as well as a new activity. Blues dancing became that outlet for me.
The Rent Party combine two of my favorite things. Blues Dancing and Swing Dancing. Going back to swing dancing I realized how much I missed it and needed it in my life. Dancing fills my soul and being able to come here every Saturday and partake in swing and blues is wonderful. In case you were wondering, there are two rooms one for blues and one for swing. You can totally rotate between the two rooms or stay on one depending upon your mood.
Everyone is super friendly and welcoming into the dance community, especially if you are a newbie. They also have this thing for newbies called "Rent a Dancer," where dancers who are new can ask dancers who wear glow sticks to dance and they will. It's a great way to get comfortable with dancing.
Anyway since I have blues dance, I have fallen more and more in love with dancing in general. I am so happy to have awesome venues like The Rent Party where you can go, have a good time, and enjoy dancing, without alcohol or that party aspect. There is something about having venues that keep that option that makes me really comfortable and happy. So thank you The Rent Party for fulfilling my needs and keeping my soul filled with happiness. -

Ever want to swing/blues dance?
The Rent Party is a fun Saturday night dance to do both and make friends. Lessons offered before the DJ'd dances - they have two rooms - one for swing and the other for blues, with guest DJ's and Instructors.
Rent Party is beginner friendly. This venue has 'taxi'-dancers that wear glow bracelets to indicate they are open to being asked to dance. You can pretty much ask anyone, but the glow is an extra sign.
Here are some logits:
* Water available if you are thirsty. No bar.
* Walking distance from the 16th Street Mission BART Station, If you take BART, I encourage you to put be aware of your surroundings.
* If you drive, be sure to put your belongings out of site - including jackets, spare change, CDs, etc. Even if you don't think it's valuable, it's not worth getting your car broken into. If you have anything to put into your trunk, I advise to do so *before* you get to your destination - you never know who's watching.
* Lesson @ 8:30p
* Dance @ 9:30p
* Attire - casual.
* Smile and have fun!
Occasionally they have a band, so check their sites.

I can't believe no one has yelped The Rent Party! I'll take care of that!
First off, I've only been a handful of times to this event held at the ODC Dance Commons, but each time has been fantastic and I've ended up dancing until my feet feel like they are going to fall off! The vibe is friendly and open so experienced dancers and newbies both feel welcome. They provide glow stick bracelets for people to wear to indicate that the wearer is down to dance no matter who asks them, which really helps people feel a little more courageous about asking for a dance. Hence more dancing and more fun.
The event features two rooms of dancing, one playing lindy hop/swing music and blues in the other. Both always have great DJs on rotation. They have dance instruction earlier on in the evening, but unfortunately I haven't made it into the city early enough to catch one...one day!
It gets a little warm in the dance halls sometimes, so I recommend wearing breathable clothes and of course, comfortable shoes. Copious amounts of water is provided in the lobby (and you'll need it!) -

The Rent Party is a fun and friendly place to go swing or blues dancing, and since it has both, you have the choice of whether you want to do swing or blues all night long - there are two separate rooms and you can wander back and forth as you please. This venue is very beginner-friendly, and there are lessons every week during the hour before the dance for those who want to learn the basics, and also lessons for those who want to learn more (there are both beginning and intermediate/advanced lessons in swing). The only thing I would say this venue is lacking is an intermediate/advanced blues class. Logistically, I'm not sure if they can do it, but it would be nice for people who want to progress in their blues. Overall a great place for dancing, though, with lots of great music and fun people to dance with and talk to.

I went to The Rent Party week before last for the first time and it was rockin'! The organizers have done a great job turning the dance studio ambiance into a chill, party-like ambiance (and that's a hard task to accomplish!). There was an awesome turnout and great music! It's so nice having a weekly Saturday night venue in SF again!

I'm so excited about the opening of this new lindyhop and blues dance venue in San Francisco. It's about time this city got a venue that has 2 rooms and offers both dances on a regular basis. The crew putting this event together will rock your socks. They're full of great ideas and lots of energy. In addition, they include some of the best dancers and DJ's in San Francisco.
This venue is going to be a great place to dance, get awesome lessons from incredible teachers, meet new, fun people, and make lindyhop and blues dancing a passion. You've got to give it a go!
