The Remix is aan awesome mix of every genre you could possibly want. From flapper to disco era. I am a freak for vintage accessories, and have bought probably around 4-5 bags from here...they are a must.

Clothes on the other hand, can be a bit tricky. On the hanger, superb, on me, not so much. I am short(about 5'5") and have an athletic but hourglass figure(about 130lbs)...the clothes fit a bit funky, but i guess that's the fun of the hunt.

Prices are reasonable and I have always enjoyed the staff there. I always go in there with a feeling of reverence for the finds, but it wasn't until one time when i was the only customer and glancing back toward the roped off section that i was truly awe inspired. They have truly vinatge finds back there from designer original lines, to handbeaded accssories to vintage coats. too rich for my blood, but it felt like i was at a fashion museum except you could take home the pieces!

I strongly suggest checking out Remix bc it's been a love of mine for years and i think you'll love it too!

So there's been some whining about the cost of some of the clothes here, to which my only response can be a smack across the face with the back of a hand and a loud "COME ON." Prices are moderate at worst and, anyway, she picks her collection with care and you can tell. Though I am always proud of myself after shoving past dozens of hideous garments to find a $9 thrift store gem, sometimes I just don't have the energy.

I got an adorable floaty I Dream of Jeannie-type nightgown here just today for $18. The woman who owns this place is so sweet and chatty. She told my friend and I that the "top" floor (separated from the bottom by a half-foot high step) was more '50s and '60s clothes, and the bottom was '70s and '80s. She seemed able to tell just looking at us that we were bottom-floor kind of girls. Well hell, if I'm that easy to stereotype I guess I only have myself to blame...

Nice to have some non-flea market retail around Eastern Market. Between Peregrine Espresso and this place, my hipster ass pretty much has it made.

I ventured into Remix...on the day of all days...'I was broke!" I nearly lost it when I saw all the hats!! I am a hat fanatic and can rival any hat collector of Ladies hats. The other fall back was ..the hats were too small.  I will be back on payday which is this comming Friday! I have about $300 to spend! Who says " If it dont fit , dont force it? There will be a hat for me...that fits or else! Wish me success....All in love...It is one of DC's Best Kept Secrets...sshhhhhhhh!

I kind of don't want to tell anyone about Remix.

I never considered myself a vintage shopper.  I've tried it a few times (Secondi... no thanks) and did like The Mustard Seed back in the day, though that isn't necessarily vintage.

But when I walked through the doors of Remix, I felt like I was in heaven.  Remix feels like a stylist hopped in a time machine, went through tons of pieces, picked out only the best ones, came back, and put them in a big closet for me to walk through.

I found probably 4 or 5 summer dresses that looked great on me.  I ended up purchasing two, at $28 each that's a steal! I also purchased two slips and a gorgeous top.  Everything I tried on felt and looked like it was made for my body.  The fabric on one of the dresses is so luxurious that it feels like it could be designer.  Cheap price just wont buy you high quality fabric anymore (I'm always hating on polyester, acrylic, and synthetic blends).

They were pieces that I would definitely wear... they didn't feel old and dirty or out of date and stuffy... they felt like actual "vintage" clothing.  They were one of a kind pieces that I haven't seen anywhere else with great cuts and clean lines.

They have a huge variety of pieces.  I saw men's (suits, casual wear, cowboy boots), women's (evening wear, all decades, suits, summer dresses, shoes, accessories), and home decor.  I was happiest about how cheap everything was.

The owner, Stacy, was really nice.  She was also very knowledgeable- I held up a dress and asked her if she knew what size it was (sizing is pretty off when it comes to vintage clothing) and she looked it up and down and said "probably and 8" and it definitely was once I tried it on.  I had walked in a few days earlier and met a saleslady named Jameela who was also soo friendly.   I feel like Remix is doing something that you don't see much of in DC.  It's totally different than the vintage store in georgetown (Annie Creamcheese) which I have never been able to find anything good when I've gone there.

Everyone in the store was very friendly - including other customers! Being inside the store kind of felt like a little community... we all talked to each other, showed off our outfits, wandered around the store barefoot, and had fun.

I guess if there's any downside it's that they only have two dressing rooms.  I don't blame them though, because there isn't much space to work with.  The dressing rooms are adorable though, and one of them is much bigger than the other - try to nab that one, it's got better lighting and is easier to use when changing.

Remix is going to be a staple for me from now on!

I really feel like I should like this place more. I bought a wonderful dress and a great and unique hat there. Still, I can't justify the prices because I've definitely had equally special finds at other stores. I also feel like it lacked the kind of selection I wanted. Granted, I dress like a mix between Punky Brewster and Ingrid Bergman, but I did expect more variety and more unique items.

I think it's main problem is that it's in a weird limbo between vintage shop and second hand thrift store. The selection is limited, like a thrift store, but it lacks the pure thriftiness of it.

But, that being said, I thinks it's a good enough store. I really liked the purchases I made. I really like the location. I like the layout. I just don't looove it.

.....................................THE MOJO THIEF (A CONFESSION).........................

Ok, so I went to Nordstrom and found a stylin' 1970s-inspired velvet jacket for $480.

I took me a digital photo of it, yes I did.

Then I high-tailed it over to the Remix, and found the same damn color (she sorts by color), similar cut, et-cheddera in a REAL '70s jacket.

I bought the little sucker for $50.

You think Remix is expensive?  Not if you look at it this way.

I loves that jacket.  :-)

I am, by no means, a vintage hound. But I am girl who's not afraid to hunt for a statement piece, a bargain or wear used clothing. I also really adore vintage cocktail dresses. So it is safe to say that I came to The Remix with high hopes. When I walked in I was greeted by a very friendly staffer. I roamed the store unencumbered as it was the middle of the day and it was raining outside.

After a thorough scouring of the goods, I left, empty-handed. Not a single item in the store inspired me.

I love the idea of the store, but the reality just didn't match up.
I hope to return again and be convinced. Until then, I'm marking The Remix mediocre.

I mourned when the Remix decamped from my neighborhood to Eastern Market, but I don't blame Stacie. The new location seems to be treating her well and she has much more space for a wider variety of goodies.

Her clothes are always reasonably priced, professionally cleaned, and well-presented. She's upfront about any problems with a piece and doesn't fill her racks with junk - a mistake a lot of vintage stores make (IMO) because they seem to think this will appeal to treasure hunters. That's fine at Goodwill, but not at a higher end store with many couture pieces and other fabulous finds.

I must have a dozen coats from the Remix, every one a gem. I hate to tell people how great it is because I don't want to share. :-)

I don't understand why people complain about the prices. Comparable to department stores it's reasonable. Sure some of the jewelry is a bit pricey but honestly where are you going to find it elsewhere? You're not. Unlike most vintage stores, this place actually is NICE. The owner takes time to sort through her inventory so she doesn't offer JUNK. It's nice knowing that each dress doesn't have a rip or other major defect. I bought a dress there, vintage 1960s for about $75 bucks. Quality, not some cheap crap. Had I purchased a dress comparable to it at say Nordstrom or Barneys it would have been the same if not more. Just because it's vintage doesn't mean cheap. If you want cheap vintage then go to goodwill and sift through their crap. What I like about this place compared to other shops in the area is that the clothes aren't crammed into a rack, the pieces are kept nice on GOOD hangers, and there is a large selection. If you're a bigger girl say 10+ you're not gonna find much selection as most of the pieces are size 0-6 but I guess that was the style back in the day.

Look, if you're looking for a UNIQUE fashion piece then this is a unique store. if you want THRIFT, go to goodwill.

I've lived on the hill for about 3 years now, and I think this place is pretty new - maybe opened this summer. It's pretty baller and rather refreshing.

There are some cute boutiques in DC, but who can afford to shop there all the time? And we all recognize and understand the problems with the mall, albeit an alluring place to spend a day wasting money you don't have.

Enter...The Remix. They've got great stuff in there and won't break the bank - at least not across the board. The pricing seems to follow the beat of it's own drum - I get it though - I don't understand the "true" value of some of these great vintage pieces.

I bought an awesome fall jacket a couple of weeks ago - you remember - it was that one weekend when we all actually thought fall had arrived...sigh...so now the jacket hangs patiently in my closet until the day when the high is NOT 80 friggin degrees.

Btw, the staff was not that nice...but that's totally not a deal breaker. I have a feeling that I could return next week and they'd be super attentive and friendly. It was clear that there were a couple big spenders in the house while I was there, so all sub-par retail service is forgiven...at least for now.

And I have since rethought this. The day after I posted this review the owner emailed me to apologize about my impression and offered to send me a coupon. Now that is how you run a small business. The Remix just went from a 4 to a 5.

A great vintage shop with high-quality clothes at reasonable prices and friendly staff.

I went looking for a suit.  The selection wasn't the biggest I've seen -- maybe a couple dozen two-piece suits, and about as many more unmatched coats -- but this was more than made up for the fact that a high percentage of these were things I'd actually wear.  Lots of cool suits from the 40's, 50's and 60's, plus a zoot suit and a 70's-style velvet suit.  All these were in the $90-$125 range.

I can only vouch for the men's clothing, but it seems that the women's section in front is larger.

The woman working behind the counter that day was great -- very helpful without being too intrusive, knowledgeable, and she even let me take a couple of suits to the tailor down the street (before I had paid anything) to get a price estimate on alterations.  (I ended up buying a different suit, the first one I've ever found that fit me right off the rack -- a nice thing about vintage stores is they tend to have things that fit smaller people like me.)

I'll definitely be coming back here.

The Remix is a neat, attractive vintage shop located by  the Eastern market metro. The flow of clothing progresses from mostly 40s, 50s, and 60s in the front, to 70s and 80s (as well as a men's section) towards the back of the store. The highlights include vintage staples such as leather gloves, 50s cardigans, and rhinestone jewelry, as well as inexpensive leather jackets (men's and women's), a great selection of scarves priced at $5, hand-knit wool hats ("Mom's Fun Hats") and, their best feature of all, an excellent fall/winter coat section.

I shop for vintage at flea markets, thrift stores, second-hand shops with just the occasional vintage piece, and at nicer vintage boutiques like the Remix, and I'm pretty picky about price based on environment. In a retail store that is nice, clean, and well-organized, I expect, and am willing to pay more than I would in a charity-based store that is less clean, and less organized. In the category of nice shops with good quality, unique merchandise, the Remix has competitive prices which always strike me as fair.

This place didn't have as good a selection as I thought it would. I was so excited for Remix to come to this neighborhood, but was a little let down by the selection and customer service.

Remix has two levels, so it's fairly large. The fitting rooms are huge, and all the clothes are clean and in good shape. However, I didn't find the clothes to be practical. The racks were filled mostly with things I could never wear to work or to go out. The rack way in front of the store seems to be the best bet, and they even have new items in this section.

There was one section of the store that was roped off and said something like "Invitation Only." I don't know what that's about, and would have asked the manager... except she was on the phone and avoided eye contact with me.

They do have a great selection of sunglasses and jewelry, and this section is where I spent my money. I don't think I would go back, even though I ended up buying some things. I used to work in this neighborhood and that's how I found out about Remix in the first place. But I work and live clear across town now, and it's just not convenient for me to make the trek to Eastern Market. There are definitely some clothing boutiques I would travel an hour for... but this just isn't it.

Whenever I have stopped in here, there has been at least one other person browsing, if not more than that. This is a good thing, because I am a fan of the store. It may be the way the owner has set up the vintage fashions inside the small-ish shop. The sweaters are brightly colored and so fun and cozy looking they practically scream "take me home."

I found a satiny kimono top for less than 1/2 the price of what the new ones are going, and supposedly these are the "new trend" this season (not that I am one to follow trends, but when I do-- I do it on the cheap).

Most of the clothes here are from the  '50s and '60s, but if you hunt you can find 40's and 30's fashions as well.  Yeah, the furs here are a bit icky, but that was vogue for the period that this shop carries.

Remix is a small store, with racks upon racks of old time threads. It's located by Evening Star Cafe. They've got your usual vintage fare (things  that came out of grandparent's attic) and a slowly-expanding men's section. I've found some really cool leather jackets and coats in there but unfortunately none were a good fit.

The one thing that may be their niche is their furs, which is something that's hard for me to stomach, but people who like fur appreciate. The other day they had this fur stole that still had the animal's face attached to it.... and the expression on the little furry face was not pleased. I don't get it. I can't find anything sexy or glamorous about carting a dead animal carcass (with face attached) around your shoulders.

Anyway, the owner is very nice and the selection is interesting for perusing. Take the three stars with a grain of salt, because everyone's fashion sense is different. You may go there and find you love it all. I still prefer Annie Creamcheese.

If you really *lovelovelove* vintage clothing that is in perfect condition and you don't want to pick through rack upon rack of offerings at any urban thrift shop, then The Remix is the shop for you.

Just be prepared...because you're going to pay for it. And no matter what, it's still used clothing.

I took a break this afternoon and strolled into The Remix, expecting exactly what I saw...a hip, well presented, uber-clean vintage enclave...very DC...and I KNEW there wasn't going to be a bargain in sight. The absolute first item I happened upon, a wonderful 50's style circle skirted linen dress with faux-folk print and a capelette, in excellent condition, was accompanied by a price tag of $95. My chihuahua like yelp upon discovering the asking price made the prim sales girl (who was young enough to be the twice-great granddaughter of more than half of the clothing's original owners) wince ever so slightly and the older woman shopping quite close to me giggle and say "pricey, eh?"

Yes Ma'am...you can say that again.

But I wasn't ready to give up hope. I'm a die hard shopper. I will look through every rack, turn every price tag and doggone it...dig through every bin to find treasure.  But alas...the treasure before me had already been discovered by the peplum-pickin'-pirates of  The Remix and they charged a hefty fee to give up the booty.

Although they have some stunning samples of old-fashioned haute couture and style and yes, they have saved you the time and effort of finding these items yourself, I find their asking prices bordering on outrageous. Maybe I'm wrong in my assumption but, to individuals who enjoy wearing vintage fashions...DISCOVERING them after picking through bins of fabric dross is more than half the fun.

I'll give them two stars for having very good taste in most of their selections, but The Remix, for a diehard vintage shopper, is a disappointing experience.

I just moved to Washington DC from Los Angeles about two weeks ago, and anyone who has ever been to LA knows that LA is vintage heaven - from the flea markets, thrift stores and consignment vintage shops.... any fashionable Angelino is well-versed in vintage clothing.

That being said, I was really happy to find Remix when I first moved here.  I walked in the selection was decent although the price is a bit higher than I'm used to paying.  I am giving Remix only 3 stars though because of the service.  The owner (I don't know her name) obviously knows vintage clothing and knows her business very well - unfortunately I think that has become a downside Remix.  Every piece I looked at, the owner was hounding me, telling me "That jacket is from the 1940's" or, "That dress has a very 70's feel to it."  Well yeah, duh!  Anyone who has picked up an issue of Vogue at least once in their life can see if something as whatever era feel to it!  I understand she is trying to be informative, but to me if came off as "I know more about vintage than you do" attitude.  And please don't tell me something is "worth" it because its from 1955 or whatever.  The cost of vintage is relative and honestly, I would never pay more than $100 for vintage in LA but here it seems as if I'm trapped at these uber-priced vintage boutiques.

Also all the designer vintage is locked up in a side room that is inaccessible to the general public.  Apparently you need an appointment if you want to check that stuff out.  Why is this!?  Is the average Joe customer not good enough to dig through the designer pieces to see if they want anything?  Are we such vintage-illiterate that the owner is scared we'll ruin her designer pieces by browsing through them or something?

To sum it up, if you are a vintage novice, Remix would be great.  The owner is helpful and can answer all your questions about the various garments throughout her store.  If you are a vintage pro, the owner will feel a bit condescending and you feel like she is treating you like a dumb-ass.

I am disappointed by Yelpers here! I went to Remix expecting it to be great based on all of these reviews, but unfortunately I was quite disappointed. The bulk of the women's clothing consisted of 80's suit pieces. They did have some decent looking winter coats, but that was about it. The jewelry selection was also quite small. They had only 2 rings. Compare that to Annie Creamcheese's racks and racks of vintage rings. The place had an odor and when I ventured downstairs there was a sketchy man talking to himself. Overall, it was not a pleasurable shopping experience and I do not plan on returning ever.

I went in Remix to shop I was feeling really bad that day; Robyn was the sales-person she was supper and for that reason I will always shop in that store.  I went back to ask a question about how to get on yelp to give Robyn a compliment and Amber was there, she was super; for this reason I will always shop there.  We need more customer service people like Robyn and Amber.  Whoever is hiring this staff knows exactly what he/she is doing.  Keep up the good work.  I have reffered a lot of people already.
