I love shopping at this place since they carry many labels that are relevant to my style. Great job to incorporate art with fashion with music, the whole lifestyle.
The buyers do a great job of keeping things fresh, introducing new labels and reinforcing the classic labels. Fans of streetwear, skateboarding, punk, hip-hop, rock, city-life.
Makes shopping fun and entertaining.
Every time I'm in NYC, I have to stop by Reed Space. Everything from the products, employees and design of the store is on point. One thing that I really appreciate about Reed Space is all the print media that they have. It's a lot of print media that you cannot find at your local bookstore.
The store is not over saturated w/ loads of brands and most everything there is quality. Well done.
I came here for a photobook launch party.. absolutely cool place... My friend told me it's a clothes/shoes/fashion store and they often host music/artist events.. How come I didn't hear about this place..
They carry unique stuff according to my friend who's the regular shopper here. I will definitely come back during the day to check out their style..
As far as the party/event goes.. it's a COOL place!!!
This place is legit. Kicks, t's, and everything else you need, Reed Space has it. They've got gear from Mighty Healthy, Stussy, The Hundreds and their own label Staple. On top of the good selection of clothes, The Reed Space offers a good selection of music, accessories and streetwear/fashion related magazines and books. They've basically got the whole lifestyle covered. One makes The Reed Space stand out for me though is the customer service. I've been in plenty of places (cough, cough DQM) where the employees are too engrossed looking at skate videos on YouTube or discussing the latest Ghostface mixtape to even bother offering to help. The last couple visits I made to Reed Space the employees actually acted like they wanted to sell merchandise. Weird, but I appreciated it.
Dopeness.
The selection is so fresh, so choice.
I've been here twice and each time I am so enamored with the threads, mags, accessories and kicks I know I'm missing something. When you find that one piece you know you can rock better than anyone else, buy it cause this place got it going on.
Dopeness.
The Reed Space, if you are into streetwear this is the place for you! Jeff Staple the man behind the store took it to a whole new level. Very open space, dope design (kindergarten size chairs as shelf's..dope!) and very friendly customer service.
You can find everything from sneakers, shirts, hats, accessories, everything you need..make sure you bring lots of cash, i know i didn't.
- doesn't hold anything I would ever buy personally
- seemed overpriced but I'm talking about the merchandise itself not the stores retail etiquette, I'm sure the items would be just as expensive elsewhere
- love the staff because I'm friends with about half of them
- mentionably nice owner
- holds occasional shows, events, art exhibits
- the store cam (that you can check out online) is a tad creepy
- small female section
I respect Reed Space mainly because I respect the man behind it. Jeff Staple is simply just that dude. And I make sure to stop by whenever I'm in town, mostly to see if I can meet him personally.
The shop is just basically street culture in a box. Books, toys, kicks, gear. The clothing stock they have is nothing fantastic, but they do make sure to carry some new brands that are definitely heading in the right direction in terms of street fashion.
The store itself is sick and the interior design/ layout is bombs. My favorite part are the small chairs on the wall as shelves because it rings in memories of myself pimpin' it hard in kindergarten.
I've heard their sales are stupid, too. Stupid cheap.
Friendly staff, not the hip hop/urban/art/design pretentious kind at all. I really appreciated that.
Its kind of weird how you have to buzz the doorbell to be let inside, but don't let that scare you off. On one side there is a great selection of magazines and books, displayed on hanging school chairs. They have apparel and shoes for men, a variety of mixtapes (which they will happily let you sample if you are curious about hearing one), and a nice selection of beautifully designed knick-nacks. The boyfriend left with a whole bunch of stuff including IDN Magazine, a book, a pencil bag that reads "Helvetica," and "Lomography" tape.
Check it out.
A gem for the boys. Wide range of accessories and street fashion that doesn't scream designer. The main reason I heart this place is for ending a 10 year search for the perfect winter coat befitting a special 6'2'' man.
This place is so not cool. Where are the outrageous prices, the attitude, and the douchebags? Instead, the prices are reasonable. The staff is friendly. The rest of the people who shop here are people I might actually want to hang out with. Unbelievable.
They also host exhibits from time to time. Go to their openings. Good people, good music, free beer. And cultural stimulation, of course.
The last time I was here, it was the day after they'd posted some pix on their website of these dope neon yellow and black Air Max Lights that they'd just gotten in. I came in with a friend a little late in the day and he was totally digging them, but they didn't have any left in his size. They'd been selling like crack all day long, and unfortunately they said they don't restock their sneaks. My friend was pretty bummed, and pissed at me for not taking him here sooner. So, learn from him and spare me your grief. If you see something you like, cop it now (like I did, with a pair of white perforated Blazers) or regret it later (like my friend).
On the flip side, he also spotted some cute girls, and, lo and behold, we ended up running into them later that night at Savalas. So, it wasn't a total loss.
Clothing, Magazines, Urbanwear.
Stumbled upon this place while going to myplasticheartNYC a few blocks down.
One of the few stores that I've found that offers a wide selection of unique t-shirts, sneakers and wares in a nice neatly contained store. Another fun and unique quality of the store is the fact that they have a large variety of urbanwear magazines for those of you who need to read and keep up with the latest trends. All magazines held up on a wall of chairs.
Need that T to look good, have to get that newest limited sneak, trek on over. I like the fact that it's in a nice quiet area, I don't have to fight with everyone to get everything!
Best Store in NYC! The Reed Space, the retail extension, of Jeff Staple's design agency Staple Design is my favorite store in all of New York City. They're got pretty much everything you could want, if you're a gearhead like me.
Street wear, photobooks, kicks, accessories, jackets, furniture, more and more and more! Completely unpretentious like other street wear stores, *cou-supreme-gh*, and everyone there is super friendly. Its a bit off the beaten path in, to what some consider, the really real downtown LES scene, but a true gem indeed.
don't sleep on The Reed Space.
I like the brands that this place carries, including foreign family, 10deep, and crooks and castles. i thought the guy at the register today was unfriendly. man, this isn't supreme, you may have a doorbell on your door but that doesn't mean you have to act like a too-cool-for-school douche. everyone else who worked there seemed nice. maybe he was having a bad day.
I think the main reason why everyone who's reviewed so far is saying the staff are so friendly is because they truly are. They are what make this place so wonderful.
They're not like some other places where the staff sit atop their high horses acting all uber underground with their "i'm cooler than you" 'tudes.
The thing with selection here is it's great as well as it sucks. Let me elaborate. There is a large selection of neat art pieces, toys, accessories, books, tops, bottoms, and kicks. However for clothing items, the size selection is rather limited.
It's pretty much if you see something you like and you can get your size in it, buy it immediately. I'm sure if you came back at another time it's gone. The prices are very reasonable for a store like this and for what you're getting.
Overpriced in every sense of the word. The clothes are obnoxiously ugly for the most part (although i did manage to score one of the Rude Movements t-shirts there). The shoe selection is not what it used to be.
Street fashion sucks now, and this place pretty much sucks now as a result.
I already get the sense that this review will result in a lot of NY-based hate mail sent my way but I gotta say that the Reed Space was a bit disappointing so far as shopping goes. There were a few hits and a few misses, but I must say that I was rather underwhelmed... perhaps I just showed up on a bad day.
I'll admit that their sneaker, hoodie, magazine/book, and CD collection is impressive, but maybe it's just not my style... their clothes were... well, not good looking. A lot of the graphics printed on the hoodies and shirts were tacky in my opinion and way overpriced for the quality. They had a nice selection of jackets and coats, but I've seen a lot better for much more reasonable prices than what was being offered at Reed's.
Then there's the art. Yes, it was cool, but the tattoo parlor across the street had way more interesting art in a much more interesting setting.
All right... that being said... hate mail, I welcome you. On a better note, the staff was awesome, they were playing good music, and it's so clean in there it starts to feel sterile.
This place has amazing kicks and tees and is neatly organized. The wall with the mix tapes is pretty impressive too. They have some hard to find zines that are a must.
reed space is the one place i can't leave new york without dropping by. not only do i like staple, the brand, their storefront is arguably the best in new york in this category. reed space has a vast selection of shoes, clothes, bags, hats, literature, etc. i can't leave without getting something. in fact the last time i was there, i picked up a crooks and castles fitted and a staple tee.
the people and aforementioned selection are what set reed space apart from the comp. everybody in reed space is like a friend you never knew you had. they are just very chill. the vibe and atmosphere is much different than other boutiques. reed space doesn't carry the self-importance of alife, the "can't do wrong" attitude of supreme, or the indifference of a variety of other storefronts. don't get me wrong, i love alife and supreme, but reed space is definitely tops.
is it creepy that you can peer into the store? maybe. is it expensive? relative to what? the gap? it's streetwear, the prices fit the genre. the only bad thing about reedspace is it's in new york and i'm located in dc. i'm for sure going up there when the pigeon new balances drop!
I concur with the other two reviewers of the Reed Space--the staff is very friendly and down to earth. This place is great because unlike other LES boutiques it is large enough to have some selection! Check it out for limited run Nike apparel and footwear collabos with artists, as well as a wide array of smaller-label t-shirts and hoodies. The Reed Space has everything you need--books, magazines, mixtapes, clothing, and kicks--all hard to find elsewhere. Today I got an all-over print sweatshirt with a Freshjive monogram that mimics the Fendi logo in block lettering. Fresh to def.
Went here for a Courvoisier x LRG event. Super small, but ultra clean and well lit. Non descript street leads here. Very nice, but not ultra impressive. I guess if you're going to hold a mini "mixer" type of party talk to them.
ive been meaning to drop praise here for a minute. went yesterday and it was just like all the visits before: mad cool shit, chill vibe, and great layout/space design.
it's hard to stand out with your offerings if you're a streetwear boutique and reed space always does. the selection of industry-relevant mags/books/print is especially well-stocked.
like somebody else said, worth "trekking" to....
The Reed Space is a retail store/art gallery brought to you by the graphic and clothing design team of Staple Design. What I like most about Reed Space is that nobody is too cool for school - literally! Their interior is based on a "school house" concept where miniature chairs line an entire wall and provides extra shelf space to display their goods.
Merchandise includes graphic designed tee's, hoodies, limited ed. trinkets + an extensive selection of japanese mags. All in all, some pretty dope shit, which includes chill and friendly staff + a DJ who can always be counted on to give good beat (hip-hop, drum+bass, dancehall, etc.,).
With its good vibes and recent renovations which doubled its capacity, the Reed Space does a great job operating as a gallery and fulfilling their self-designated role as "a positive social contagion."

Reed Space is out of the way from all of the other downtown streetwear boutiques, but very much worth the trek. Actually, I almost feel silly grouping Space with other streetwear stores because it's so different whether I'm talking about the items carried or the unpretentious staff. Although there's a wide variety of items sold, everything just works and you always want to come back to check out what new stuff is in. I'm not personally into the clothes that are sold here, but I love the different books and magazines keep me coming back.
Okay, so I went to NYC this past weekend and Reed Space was on my list of places to go. Even though is was raining my entourage and I ventured out. This place was awesome! STAPLE is one of my favorite brands and it is hard to find. Online you can only really get mens clothing so I was psyched to get some girl duds. When you walk in there are books and magazines on your right. On the left is a rack of clothes, and on the wall a type up about every brand they sell. It was really cool that they took the time to post those so consumers could find out some juicy info about what they were buying. I bought some great T shirts and decided I couldn't afford the sweatshirts. To my surprise when we walked out of the store we noticed the REED SPACE OUTLET where everything was 50% off. I could finally get a sweatshirt for under 100. This place was great and had tons of stuff. T shirts were 15 and sweatshirts about 40. They also had some jackets, hats and sneaks. So if you go, check out the outlet next door first. I am not sure how long it will be around.
