An inclined surface or roadway connecting different levels.
Look it up, that's what the Ramp means. Connecting different levels is an understatement.
Living the life less ordinary is what happens to me at the Ramp. Who knew an average brunch with a fabulous view and some strong drinks would lead me to dancing in the Castro? That's actually nothing compared to the time I got kidnapped by Canadian muscle builders that whisked me away in a limo and forced me to drink Dom Perignon all afternoon long. True story, ask Billtron.
Yes, this is the sort of thing that happens when you start your day at the Ramp. -

It was a gloriously warm and sunny San Francisco Saturday (in January!), so I thought: what better than to take a bike ride someplace new for brunch? As I'd never been before, my friend suggested we try The Ramp. It's situated on the bay with two outdoor seating areas. This clearly is the main attraction.
Despite the fact that there are obviously plenty of people who like to bike to this place, there wasn't a single spot in their huge parking lot to lock up. Nothing, not even a friggin pole. Seems a little lame in a city like SF, but whatever, we walked our bikes back out onto the street and found a pole there.
Once inside, the waitress was very friendly and offered us seats on the back patio with the proviso that we would have to order food at the bar as they were not permitted to serve food out there. As it was pretty packed on the main patio, we decided to do that. We found a table in the sun looking out at the water, which was nice, though it has to be said, it's really not the prettiest view of the bay to be found - it's a rather industrialized area with not much to see.
When we got menus, we were a tad shocked by the prices and the limited choice. My friend went to the bar, ordered food for us, and brought me back my coffee. The coffee was only half warm and barely potable. She convinced me to bring it back and get another, but the second one was exactly the same. I added more sugar. By the time I got another cup, they had either made a fresh pot or I had by then gotten used to it.
The food was just okay; like the coffee, it was not particularly hot. At those prices I was at least expecting my omelette would be served while still hot. The English muffin that came with it was like a brick. I was afraid I was going to break my teeth on it.
The barmen were also quite frazzled and, shall we say, a bit curt with the customers. It seemed like they were annoyed by every request. Perhaps they should get more staff back there on the weekends?
Despite all this, both the bike ride and the company were delightful. -

A patio brunch in SF overlooking the water is a true treasure.
This is a working man's place for brunch so don't show expecting a gourmet meal and white napkins, c'mon -it's called The Ramp for crying out loud.
I haven't had the breakfast items, but lunch menu consists of lots of things that are probably pre-made...calamari, fries, stale nachos, tolerable guacamole. That's ok, you don't go to the ramp for a extraordinary gustatory experience, you go to soak in the sun, listen to some music and perhaps throw back a couple of shots...
Bathrooms are messy and the service is no-nonsense. Go to have fun, meet up with friends and enjoy the few truly sunny days that SF has to offer. -

Food is expensive, so are the drinks, but the absolute perfection of sitting on the dock/deck on a sunny day can't be beat. It's hard to find but worth it if you can. Look for the sign that says, "Ruby Sailing" and you're in the right place.

Great sunny spot on a pretend SF summer day like this past weekend in February! The chips, salsa and guacamole always deliver satisfaction. The truffle fries were tasty......and the chipotle chicken sandwich decent. I think next time I will opt for their burger over the chicken sandwich, but nothing tops this place on a sunny day! Not having to drive to Sam's in Tiberon to get the same exact feel makes it my favorite SF sun-basking spot! Parking is plentiful also :-)

On a sunny day- it's great!
Food-wise, it's OK, nothing fantastic, but good. -

I cannot believe this is listed as a dive bar! Huh?! Cutest restaurant/bar ever! The neighborhood isn't that great I guess and the menu is limited but the food and drinks are good. Parking is also good. It's a nice place to go on a summer day and lounge outside while soaking up the sun/fog along the waterfront, but I like going there even more during a cold winter day and sitting inside with an irish coffee. It gets this nice, cozy holiday vibe.
PS: AWESOME HOT DOGS. -

I don't mind this neighborhood spot. Out on decking (if it's not too cold), it's like a cool secret that serves up simple Americana and drinks. I have been there when the service is slow. I have been there when its sunny and fabulous outside. Hey, you can bring your dog and sit with ten friends around one of their big tables if you want. They have live music, etc. Essentially, it's a high-end dive bar (does that exist?). Go with your peeps. On a beautiful day or night, really its special to sit by the water and look out at the old docks, the birds, etc, a fisherman's bone-yard delight, and nicely privately out of the path of most things SF.

Review from Roy N.
Been coming here for years and have noticed that the place and surroundings have progressively gotten better over the years. I remember years ago when I first started coming here when there were more rotting planks and a more industrial, run-down feel to the area surrounding The Ramp. There was also the occasional odd smell wafting around back then which also seems to have disappeared over time. Back in the day, I often used to joke that it was like the alternate universe to a deck restaurant/bar in Marin.
Regardless, I've always felt that this place had it's own individual charm and have always enjoyed coming here. Nowadays, this places seems much nicer and far more deluxe than I remember it being, yet still retains that laid-back casual feel that I enjoy with a distinct lack of pretense. Yesterday afternoon, on an especially crazy day where nothing seemed to go right, I had the opportunity to stop in here for a quick escape.
The weather was surprisingly fantastic yesterday with no wind and strong sunlight. I loved being out on the deck there, but after a while, it was actually a little too hot for me so I ended up going inside. Before that, I really enjoyed sitting out on the deck and enjoying the surroundings while sipping on an Absolut Soda with Lime. Wanted Absolut Citron, but they didn't have it so I ended up getting that instead. Shortly after, I looked up and noticed that they have Hangar One Citron. Oh well, maybe next time.
The was great too and the bartender was both sweet and attractive. Didn't get her name, but I think the receipt said Lori. She was most attentive and a true professional. As always, service makes such a difference!
Sitting there on that deck, it was the nicest little escape for me...a little slice of heaven, even if for just a short time before heading back to reality. Afterwards, I was in such a good mood that I decided to extend it by heading to North Beach after, but that's another story. Took a couple pictures which I've posted above. -

Horrible! First of all, The Dump Truck server had her sixth toe hanging out of her flat tires/beat up Tom's Shoes, DISGUSTING! Unsanitary! She should be sent home for that. We ordered our food and two beers... 35 minutes later she told us a dish was no longer available. One hour later she asked if we wanted another round, not even noticing that our food wasn't there. After waiting a hour, I left ten dollars on the table for our beer and left pissed off. They were not even busy either, as we only waited ten minutes to be seated on a saturday. I will never go back again!! I gave them one star bc zero stars wasn't an option. When i called to complain the next day, they took my info and never followed up. I used to spend over $150 for lunch every week here...NEVER AGAIN! Obviously they don't care about customer service or word of mouth. Usually when something is fantastic you tell a few people, but when something is terrible, you tell everyone. Congrats, guys!!!!

This place is like a hidden treasure. It is south of the ballpark surrounded by nothing really but when you walk back there you find a cute hangout spot situated right on the water. The food is consistently good although possibly a bit over priced but the atmosphere is great. It is the kind of place where you can just chill all day with your friends enjoying weekend cocktails and tasty bites.

A beautiful day at Mission Bay, for a Saturday lunch. The ramp has pretty decent food at a reasonable price. The menu is small, but good enough to order a satisfying meal. The service was OK. Especially considering how crowded the place gets. And with the weather being a lil hot, the attitudes could've been ugly. But there were lots of smiles.
I had the Fish & Calamari & Chips. Very decent portions, but the fish fillet wasn't very big, with too much crust that was kinda greasy. The calamari was good... but I wish they used steak fries instead of the the small type.
But I'd come back just for the leisurely atmosphere, and the great view of the bay.
It's a very cool place. Check it out. -
Review from Jackie G.
I've been here twice because I was invited by some very important people. I haven't tried the drinks here, but apparently they seem to be the only thing that's good. The first time I came here I had an overdressed, overpriced Cesar Salad. The second time I split a version of Eggs Benedict where they replaced the bacon with mushrooms. The hollandase sauce was good, the "poached" egg- cooked over hard. I was also considering the veggie burger which is a good thing I didn't because a friend ordered it and it was so plain! Plus, $8 for chips, salsa, and guac?! Are you kidding me!?
Service does work their asses off though. Don't hate on them. And I do enjoy the outdoor seating. -

I went to brunch here after going sailing with some friends.
It's kindof overpriced (nothing is less than like $13 even though they just have burgers and scrambles and such), but understandably because it's on the water and its the only place to eat around the marina. (Although sadly there isn't really a good view of the water).
It has a nice outdoor seating area and they serve decent beers for $5-7.
I got the Sam Scramble which came with potatoes and an english muffin. I enjoyed it.
My friend said the burger was good as well. (The fries were good.. I snuck a couple)
Overall, not worth going out of the way for but definitely worth eating at if you're near the pier. -

Great out-of-the-way casual place to chill with friends on a hot summer day. This place definitely has its own run down ambiance -- it feels removed from the hustle and bustle of the city and is SUPER casual. Ie, you can run or bike there on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon and not feel bad about sitting at a picnic table in your gym clothes enjoying a cold beer!
The crowd is super chill and usually really friendly. If you sit outside in the back you can even bring your doggie. Large (and strong) Bloody Marys is another pro along w/views of the water.
Really the only cons are the service (sloooooow!), the general dirtiness (which I guess is part of the "waterfront shack" ambiance), and the bathrooms/portapotties. Don't come if you're prissy, but if you're looking to share a pitcher outside with friends and enjoy some sun - this is where it's at! -

San Francisco, CA
The food/drinks/service is very Mediocre but the location and ambiance is keeping this place hot for a Sunday brunch.
Food is overall expensive and lack of surprise and yet I'm sure the regulars return for sitting under the sun and not their clam chowder.
Those plastic white patio chairs are a bit uncomfortable and at least 10 people will kick your chair throughout your meal since the tables are pretty close together but they do a good job to refill your water, clean your table and let you hang out for as long as you need.
There's something about this place that you keep coming back and yet it has nothing to do with the food they serve. -
Review from Megan L.
The Ramp is tucked away on the very east end of Mariposa by the bay in a very undeveloped area, but it was surprisingly packed for lunch on a Friday.
The pork in the pulled pork sandwich was so tender.. I tend to shy away from pulled pork if I'm not in the mood for something heavy, but this sandwich was just right. Their chips+guac and calamari were great, and the burgers looked awesome too.
I went on a sunny day so there were tons of people dining outside and drinking at lunch. Great spot to chill before a Giants game without having to pay the inflated prices for the restaurants along King St. -
Review from Casey S.
Great place to spend a sunny afternoon. I think it has one of the largest outdoor patios in SF. The food is a bit on the pricey side but at least the bartender makes great bloody marys!

My Gal Pal Laurie came for a visit during the week of our beautiful Indian Summer. I thought what better way to spend the day than at the Ramp enjoying some chilled beverages, on the water but not in touristy Pier39/F.Wharf. We took the Muni "T" line to Mariposa and walked one block, the Ramp was packed for lunch.
We grabbed a table for two on the rail overlooking the water. I always have loved this place, it's "Rustic" easing into "Divey" but safe and the food is good. Great selection of beer and cocktails too. The waitresses are always pleasant and smile and are quick to bring out the drink/food orders. On a sunny day in the city, this is the place to come and just chill out and admire San Francisco's industrial past, watch a cruise ship in dry dock get worked on or see a fisherman fish out a $10 spot from the water with his rod and reel; you don't see talent like that at Pier 39! -

I went to brunch here on a Sunday. It was beautiful out so the fact that we were right by the water was really nice.... but that was pretty much the only thing that was nice. I thought the food was pretty expensive for what it was (kind of crappy diner food) and the service was definitely sub-par.
We ordered chips and guacamole when we first got there because we were starving. Twenty five minutes later (and it was not a very busy time) we flagged down our waitress and asked about the status of our guacamole. She told us that they had run out and had to make more. It would've been nice if she had warned us... We ended up getting our appetizer after our main courses and the guacamole just tasted like mashed up avocados... not that I'm complaining about that but it didn't seem like it should've taken half an hour to make. -

My rating is a mix of all my experiences molded into one. It is actually really a beautiful place during the day when the sun is shining on our beautiful SF, but it's a little high priced and maybe because it is next to Mission Rock, the crowd can be a mix of who knows what. That being said, I did go here on a taco tuesday and it was excellent. They serve tacos from 5-7 for $2 each and I was quite impressed. The choices of meat were carnitas, chicken and shrimp, which the carnitas and chicken were excellent and my tacos were huge, I am so used to taco tuesdays with tiny tacos! Also, we ordered some Don Julio Margaritas which were definitely pricey, about $10.50 each, but at least half the large glass was filled with tequila. If they are gonna charge you at least they put the liquor in it.

I love the Ramp! Such a cool place on a Sunday day to enjoy great food with great people!
Sitting on the water down in Mission Bay this place is definitely a happening spot. They have live music in the evening and plenty of space.
I've been hear a few times from Brunch and the food is always spectacular. I must recommend the Crab Benedict. They really hook up the fresh crab (more then i've ever experience on any other crab bene) and their hollandaise sauce is amazing.
They also have pretty decent Bloody Mary's. Nothing stand-out-ish about them, just a well balanced refreshingly delicious Bloody. -

Well... it's only about a block away from the T train, but it was hard to read the sign. Don't start wondering around guys, it's right at the corner of Illinois and Mariposa!!! I ended up walking to a grey building about 300 ft away!! It caught my attention because of the flags, which seems more like a bar to me.
Anyways, so finally found The Ramp. I feel like this would be a cool place if it were sunnier. There's lots of outdoor seating and you get to watch all the parked boats. They have a good selection of beer. Good times with good friends! That's always a plus!!! -

So, my first time here and its for my cousins wedding on July 1st! My cousin had her wedding and reception here and it was pretty nice. Very different. I thought the bar atmosphere would clash, but it didn't. That had to be the fastest wedding that I've ever been to. Faster than Vegas or the courts. I think its time for me to convert! LOL...
From what I've seen it looks like a great place to relax, drink, and eat. Its right next to the water, but don't expect blue waters like you are in Hawaii or something. This is the San Francisco bay... It's dark murky waters. Its just the perfect spot for a somewhat hidden dive bar/restaurant.
Food was average, but not horrible. Staff was great and upbeat. If I asked I received.
The only real knock on this place was the hours. I was looking at their closing times and wondered why they closed so early. -

I went last Monday for lunch with a few friends. It was sunny beautiful day for an outdoor lunch, this place was perfect.
We had Oysters for appetizer which were superb.
I had the special of the day, Mussels on curry sauce, to my opinion the curry sauce was not strong enough to taste it, still the sauce was good, I guess I should it asked to make the sauce mild. However I was satisfy with my choice.
My friends ordered Fish and Calamari Fritto and some of the Hamburgers, which they were talking how good it was.
I will definitely come back for more! -

3 1/2 stars.
Great patio setting
fried calamari was solid, and what I'd expect.
Decent, but not the best beer selection.
Had a steak sandwich and it was good. Steak wasn't seasoned terribly well but the bread was delicious and it was a tasty snack. Little pricey, but it's a nice place to relax for awhile and sip a cold one before heading deeper into the city for shenanigans. -

I will give the place 5-Stars for outdoor seating overlooking the bay, even though the view is a little to industrial and post apocolyptic for my taste:)
they serve burgers, sandwiches, salads and all around crab benedict seemed to be the biggest attraction. And it is as sinful as it sounds, loaded with tons of mayo, served on white bread with potatoes.
I ordered the garden burger and was pleased that I could get it on whole wheat instead of the baguette. it was alright, nothing that blew my mind and am glad that I was able to get everything on the side. Only problem it was served with fries, instead of a salad.
We started with Oysters and that sure was a treat.
My friends ordered soup and crab benedict and seemed to thoroughly enjoy their food. . They apparently have music starting at 5pm on Sundays, but since we left at 4:15pm, I can't say how good it is. I did enjoy sitting outside on a fabulous day in San Francisco, but can pass on the food, which is okay at best. -

A little breezy and cool on a Wednesday after work but sat outside as the inside bar was noisy with a soccer game on the telly! Got a nice table near the rail. Had the fish and chips hubby had a burger. Pretty good considering the place! Fries nice and crunchy, Fish and Chips not greasy. Beer went down nice!
Only drawback - a table next to us pulled out their cigarettes and started smoking. If we weren't already done and paid I would have to say something. Not sure what the laws are about outside bars but it made me want to leave! -

One of my favorites for a very relaxed, sunny Sunday brunch in SOMA.
Daniella's Scram with extra jalapenos and coffee is the perfect combination to start off my and possibly also your day.
Even when packed full this place is a bit of an oasis away from the city without being too far out. The service is always spot on and the price is just right for what you get. -
Review from James T.
This is one of those off the beaten path places that isnt somewhere you'd think to walk into. I came here with a friend who works at UCSF and it was really convenient to get here. They have their own parking lot so you dont have to go anywhere to search for parking and then have to pay at the meters.
This particular weekday lunchtime was raining, so we werent able to enjoy the outdoor seating. Im not sure I would really enjoy it because there is definitely the smell of fish in the air. There is a full bar here and a pretty good selection of beer on tap. The clam chowder was decent but definitely was missing something. Adding pepper and tobasco always does the trick tho :) I had the fish and chips. The fries were pretty good, but the fish was a little too greasy and the size of the fish was a little too small for me. The sandwiches my friends got looked really good and if I do come back, I will be getting one of these. The server also passed by with one of their burgers which looked really good. -

Margarita's were so bad we had to send them back. The second drink I got was supposed to be a gin and tonic, but they poured a vodka tonic. Again it was kinda of nasty, but I drank it anyways.
I like the patio seating, it was lovely sitting out there on a sunny Sunday afternoon. -

The only reason I give them 2 stars instead of 1 is the view - on nice weather it's actually quite nice. :)
Food is quite bad (burger came unseasoned and overdone, buns were burned, fries were cold). A coworker of mine spent the weekend on his toilet from food poisoning. Beer selection is quite pedestrian.
Not going back there again. -

Great place to dock and have lunch on one of the rare warm days on the SF Bay. I can get my small boat in there very easily so it makes for a nice stop. I think in all the years I have been coming here I have only been to it once by land. Food is what you might expect from this long time SF bay-side bar, not bad but not great either. I usually stick with a beer and a burger, pretty hard to blow that. Bloody Marys are not too bad either. Service can also be week so don't expect the Ritz, this isn't what this place is about. So if you're out on the Bay and get hungry for something I do recommend The Ramp as a nice place to put in.

Two words: laidddddddd backkkkkkkk.
U order at the bar and they bring ur food to ur table.
Must try: tiger prawn crustini and calamari! They are both off the hooook! The bloody mary wasn't the best I've ever had. They've got a pretty good selection of beer.
This is apparently the place for brunch. I came this past Saturday n they were wayyy too busy. I had to leave i wasnt feelin the club atmosphere. (but if ur into long waits, lots of ppl and loud music on a nice sunny day, this is the place for u!)
as for me, this is a great place to come and wind down on a sunny weekday. ;) -

Pros: Great atmosphere, great vibe, nice location, live music.
Cons: Service sucks. Bartenders and attitudes are never a good combination. Yea, the brunette one. An abundance busboys/girls but they don't take orders, serve, etc. But they will take your drink without even asking you if you're done. Only 2 bartenders inside on Carnival weekend? Really guys? A freakin' $12 dollar cheeseburger? A 7$ Hot Dog? At a Bar-b-cue?
On a positive note, the Port-a-Potties were immaculate... -

40 minute wait on a Sunday? OK, I can deal with that. Decently poured drinks and a friendly staff. I had the crab eggs benedict which was decent, but needed more hollandaise sauce. the crowd is a good mix of yuppie people who have taken over San Francisco for the most part, but I'll let that go... Don't know if I would come back...

How's it hanging Ramp?
You know, I am gonna be honest with you.
Your food was horrible.
The server was so stressed, slightly sweaty and kinda out of it.... spaaaaaace cadet...well at least the 2 seconds we got to talk to him
Food came out cold, sent it back, they put it under a heat lamp for 5 minutes and sent it back...eww GROSS... eggs..really...
It hurts to even think about my food experience here, so I wont.
SO now you might think, why 2 stars?
Because the drinks are really good and the patio is awesome before or after a giants game.
So 1 star for food and service , seriously The manager here should really try to hire servers who are capable of serving....
3 stars for patio and drinks.
Unless there is yummy food in my tummy and sunshine outside I will not be back here!
later dude! -

Have not eaten there, but for salsa dancing on Saturday afternoons, this place cant be beat. The bands are usually very good, the people are friendly and you get to dance outside as the sun goes down and the seagulls fly over head. How awesome is that?
