Go to the Rainbow Gathering unenlightened and clean, leave with a new consciousness and become dirty as hell in need of a serious bath by the end of it..
The hike to the site is 3 miles this year and you pretty much have to carry in on your back what you plan on bringing. This means choose wisely for what you choose can make your load heavy. Also, it means that you gotta want to be there to get there.
On July 4th the Rainbow people gather 20,000 strong in a meadow, form a circle and become silent while holding hands for world peace. Pretty soon you can hear the 'om' sounds reverberated throughout the crowd. After approximately 5 minutes of this everyone breaks for wild drumming and dancing in the middle of the circle clear into the night. All in all it's a great party.

The philosophy is simple: leave the land in better shape than how you found it. This pertains to living on the land for a month at a time.As the Rainbow family has no leader there is still a consensus: ask before you take pictures. It's a real drag but people aren't too hip on the whole picture taking thing.
Don't worry about food as there are plenty of kitchens along the trail to feed you. They range from Chai tea to soup to a full on meal, even fresh pizza sometimes.
Every year the gathering is held in a difference state. If you are interested in finding out more I suggest going to this link:
