This was my 2nd restaurant for Restaurant Week.  This time I went here with a few friends for lunch. I had never heard of this place, but thank God that I somewhat dressed up.  Apparently, if you go here for dinner, you need to wear a jacket and if you don't have one, they wiill lend it to you.  Man, I've only seen those types of places straight out of movies.  Anyway, I digress.

Anyway, this is a pretty fancy-schmancy place where all the waiters are wearing tuxedos and everyone seems a bit older than your usual, hip, cool, trendy restaurant in DC. It had that old school vibe where you would see power hungry assholes eat....jk...but not really.

Of course, I had to try the prime rib, especially when the restaurant is called Prime Rib and it didn't disappoint.  It came with mashed potatoes and spinch, all of which was excellent.

I'm not sure if this would be a place I would go all the time, but I liked going here for Restaurant Week and trying their food.  Overall, I would recommend if you're looking for a nice, fancy-schmancy restaurant.

This only applies to restaurant week 2012.  We had a magical meal. The house salad avoids the dreaded and often overpowering balsamic vinegar in favor of something more unique and palatable.  Mashed or baked potatoes were masterfully prepared; the creamed spinach was moist with no signs of charring or runniness.  The meat--prime rib-- was perfectly done (one would hope) and came served as a  generous but not ridiculously sized portion.  It comes with wonderful flavor-enhancing au jus.  For dessert, Key Lime Pie or creme brulee.

If you have a dog, ask the restaurant to save you a bite or two of your meat to present to Fido in the restaurant's rarified black bag.  S/he will love you more for it.  There is not a finer meal to be enjoyed anywhere by humans and not a finer doggie bag offering to be had anywhere.

Lush "Empire" styled interiors -- black and gold and leather - with a touch of the contemporary thrown in.

Gentlemen (you are aren't you?) wear a jacket or you will wear one of theirs, which are not exactly hidden from view as reminder that . . . This. Is. Not. Chipotle.

It appears not much as changed in terms of decor at The Prime Rib, which opened in 1976.  Dracula style drapes offset the glossy black walls and large black smoking pipe library armchairs as sounds of live piano and bass solidify the supper-club ambiance.  If they would have updated the creamy white generic basement tile ceiling, I would have been certain I stepped back in time and were dining in one of the Godfather movies.

Upon first glance walking in, I was concerned there would be an aura of stale smoke smell, but there was none to be had and so I could relax.

Men are required to wear a jacket, although I suspect they won't turn you away if you bring some arm candy along.  A coat check is provided, although I don't know the fee because I didn't use the service.

The clientele dining on this particular evening evoked images greedy Wall Street diners in 1980.  It's not my scene, but it was good for conversation and a good laugh.  The bar was bustling and quite lively; I've heard it gets a little "sloppy" as the night goes on.  It's not as much of a romantic place as it is for a few guys who are looking for a classy martini, some red meat, and a throwback night out.

The host seated us immediately and our glasses were filled with water.  Our waiter took a bit longer than we expected to come over an introduce himself.  With him, he brought only the regular menu.  We had to request the bar menu, the wine menu and the restaurant week menu.  All three took longer than they should have to appear.  We had to wait far to long for our drink orders to be taken.  It took so long, that we were able to place our drink orders and our dinner orders at the same time.

    The food was terrific.

The French Martini and Classic Martini were among the best we've had.  We have heard they're famous for their martinis and now we know why.  A bit pricey at $15 each, although I tend to still be stuck in Wisconsin price land.

The bread served was warm in the center with a side of whipped butter you could easily spread.

The Caesar salads appeared to be made with fresh lemon and raw garlic.  It packed a punch, which was lovely because many are so bland.

Their signature prime rib and London broil were some of the best we've had.  We've had lots of good meat at lots of excellent restaurants in many cities around the world and these cuts were among the best.  Both were prepared medium rare, as the chef suggested, and both came with creamed spinach and classic mashed potatoes.  Note that each side is normally $9, so this presentation was a $36 value.  If paying "rack rate," the portions are far to small to call $9 a value.

The crème brûlée and key lime pie were delicious.  The crème brûlée was a little cold in the center and not served at room temperature as it is traditionally served, but still delicious.

Our two restaurant week three course dinners were $35 each.  Our three martinis were $15 each for a subtotal of $115.  When our bill arrived, the cost was lower.  The server pointed out, without asking, which I thought was tacky, that there was an error and that he was going to leave it as is.  Our total bill, with the error, tax and a $20 tip was $111.79.  We tipped on the full price, but lower than 20% because we felt his service could have been more prompt in the beginning, warmer and inviting throughout and that he could have somehow acknowledged the birthday we were celebrating as indicated in the reservation.  We weren't expecting a song and dance, but a congratulations or a single candle on our desert would have made us feel as though our patronage is appreciated.

The bottom line is we got a good value and we know it.  The price we paid for our memorable cuts of meat and martinis outweighs our disappointment with our less than enthusiastic waiter.  We would go back when dining on a deal, but would not spend our hard earned money paying full price.

The food at the Prime Rib is great. I have been there a few times and the prime rib and their creme brulee is the best I've had around town. The service on the other hand is terrible. We've had the same waiter every time I've gone and since my group is a little younger, the waiter seems less than enthusiastic in serving us. This type of service is unacceptable. I complained to management about the waiter and I was told that he would investigate and I never heard back. Way to follow up on a complaint. After this last experience, I will not return. The food is great, but I will patronize a place that does not seem to want to work for my money. I'll spend it elsewhere...

    This place is amaaaaaazing.

Can we start with the dessert? Exceptional! The prime rib entree was medium-well (what a fool I am!). I should have eaten it rarer. Still, a tender, exquisite piece of meat.  I almost cried with joy!

It's expensive though. Even at restaurant week prices, I shook my head as I paid. But it's really high quality and high class.

People who complain about this place are being dramatic. Sure, I'm dramatic, but I exaggerated out of fun. The staff really do a boss job at getting you squared away. I showed up 20 minutes before my reservation and was seated. We were treated with courtesy. I was asked and offered the restaurant week menu and then presented with bread, water, and I quickly received my iced tea. The appetizers came out quickly. I enjoyed a Caesar salad. Proportions were perfect, as far as my busy appetite is concerned.

This would be a great place to have a last meal. Like if someone burst in with a machine gun and sawed off half the room. The atmosphere just made sense. I felt transported back 80 years. There was a piano player in the dining room. Each gentleman is REQUIRED to wear a jacket. Unless you're really rich. Then F those guys, I'm going to wear a Hawaiian shirt. That's probably what the guy in the Hawaiian shirt said. His friends, who were clearly not as rich, were wearing dinner jackets.

The mashed potato and spinach sides were heavily buttered for my fat, American craving. Delicious. But the show stopper was dessert.

I was able to try both the Key Lime Pie and the Creme Brulee. Someone is going to need to check my spelling on Brulee. It should honestly be spelled BruceLee because that dessert was like getting punched in the face. My world was turned upside down. Like a thin, crispy marshmallow resting on a cool...creme. I made sure that there were no remains!!!

After tip, I walked funny on my way out the door. But I'll be back next restaurant week without a doubt.

The Prime Rib is our choice and  tradition to celebrate family birthdays.  Our evening was perfection, from the attentive parking valets who helped my 84 year old mother out of my Cadillac, to the busboy who swept the bread crumbs off the table between courses.  We were seated at our requested table, and ordered martinis which were excellent.  The waiter gave us plenty of time before he brought the menus for us to enjoy our cocktails and the piping hot bread.  We ordered the house salad, that was excellent and had a lot of ingredients in addition to the standard lettuce and tomato.  The slab of prime rib was beyond perfection.  I ordered medium rare, and it arrived perfectly done, thick and juicy and went down like velvet butter.  The glass of Merlot was  the perfect choice.   The waiter honored my Mother's 84th birthday by singing happy birthday to her in beautiful operatic Italian.  We had creme burlee for dessert that could serve as the standard benchmark of how creme burlee should taste.  It was a perfect relaxed evening.  If you want to enjoy a nice evening with wonderful classic American food, perfect service, and polite patrons, the Prime Rib should be your destination.

we went here during restaurant week to try it out. It was ok. I was expecting better since all my friends raved about it but it was eh. I got the casear salad, crab meat, and key lime pie. it wasn't anything super special that i couldn't get somewhere else. the bf got the prime rib at medium well which he thought could have been more tender. service was really good and the ambience was nice but not really worth it. should have gone for lunch.

We love The Prime Rib.  Not sure what the complaints about the ceiling are about.  Acoustical tile ceilings may not look as trendy as the metal ceilings you see in a lot of the newer restaurants, but it and the soft surfaces absorb sound, which makes for easy conversation.  This is not a trendy restaurant, but it doesn't need to be.  The service is genteel, and the food excellent.  We got the prime rib, London Broil, and Crab Imperial, all of which were well prepared.  The house salad is a nice start, with an interesting dressing that's a nice departure from the standard spring mix with balsamic vinaigrette.  You aren't rushed through your meal here, which leaves ample time to enjoy.  We hope the Prime Rib continues in its current state, to be enjoyed for years to come.

THE choice for a classic steak dinner in a classic atmosphere, grand piano, wood panelling and all.

The prime rib was excellent. A split cut for me and a whole cut for the mister was more than enough.

We also had the lobster seafood salad, which was deliciously topped with lobster claws and other assorted seafood (I just cared about the claws). The Creme Brulee and Strawberries Romanoff were both decent, but nothing to write home about.

If the price seems steep, they also have a pre-theater menu served daily from 5-6pm.

Had great expectations-unmet.  Great dark atmosphere, good martinis.  The low fat Caesar salad was very tasty.  My wife had the prime rib and I had the special 16oz bone-in rib eye.  The prime rib was perfectly done, but the rib eye was thin and not very flavorful.  i was left with about 6 oz of gristle.  Upon informing the waiter that I didn't think this steak was worth $45, he comped the steak and gave me a free glass of wine.

The prime rib, while good, but my wife has has it just as good at PJ Skidoos in Fairfax for less than half the price.

For my 26th, 3 of my amazing friends came down to visit me for my birthday.  One friend insisted upon going to the Prime Rib, even though he hadn't been there in over 10 years.  As a meat loving woman, I happily went along.

Us ladies got all dolled up, and the boys looked great in their jackets.  Free valet parking after 5, a good start.  When we got inside we realized as group of mid twenty youngins of semi limited means, that this place was waaay old school, but a delightful change from the burger joints we usually patronize.  The host greeted us by the reservation name as we arrived, and sat us immediately.  For a Friday night, it was pretty sparse, but it was an 8:30 reservation so we chalked it up to that.

We started out with martinis and appetizers, including amazing caviar (my friend is Russian and had a craving)  The potato skins are famous for a reason.  Our waiter was obviously a lifer there and knew everything.  He was helpful with all of our selections from wine, which was great, to meat, which was mouth watering and delicious.  The boys got the full prime rib but as dainty ladies asked for the split cut (which comes without the bone) I was crestfallen upon hearing that but the waiter said since it was my birthday he's see if they could get us a piece with the bone.  HE DID.  And it was melt-in-your-mouth fantastic. Creamed spinach and au gratin potatoes were fantastic.

The creme de la creme was dessert, which none of us wanted.  BUT it was my birthday so our waiter insisted and brought me a banana split on a gold plate and then sang me happy birthday, IN ITALIAN, in a beautiful operatic voice.  To say I was blown away is an understatement.

Anyway, worth the money for an amazing experience especially for a special occasion.  We all still talk about it and can't wait to go back.

Would somebody freaking tell me how you can give half a star???!!!!  TPR  deserves 4.5 stars.  And here's why...

Hey, steakhouses come, steakhouses go.  How many ways can you improve upon creamed spinach?  perfectly grilled meat?  An iceberg wedge salad?

    Well, let me tell you.

You know how it's done... the presentation, the service, the sides, the salads...  TPR has been doing this for DECADES.  Do you know how many restaurants even exist for decades?  Exactly.

This is how you do it people.  Gentlemen wear coats (and mostly ties).  Cocktails are served and you are permitted ample time to peruse the menu.  Ask for Danny.  He knows the drill.

The bread arrives.  Your salads are impeccable.  You look around and maybe, if your under 30, you feel a little bit out of place but at the same time you might have the feeling that you have arrived.

Your steak, because honestly why would you order anything else, is perfection.  Buttery velvet in your mouth.

Did  I mention the wine list?  Go for the boutique Californians.  Can't go wrong.

OK.  Here's where we dock some points... I am a preservationist at heart.  I decorate for a living.  I know the importance of maintaining a design aesthetic.  BUT.  The "Dynasty" decor has to go.  I'm not saying ditch the clubby feel or let go of the traditional decor.  Seriously though...a little update wouldn't be bad.  Fabric is fraying.  The carpet is dingy.  The paint is dirty.  The mirrors????  Really?  This isn't Versailles nor is it a Disco Hall and who really wants to look at themselves while eating?

The Prime Rib is a grand established Lady.  I read that The Washington Post said TPR is out.  Really?  Just because everyone goes to Cafe Milano, and when was the last time you saw that restaurant reviewed, doesn't mean you should.  Chain steak houses?  Done.  Flash in the pan celebrity chef steak houses (Charlie Palmer much anyone?) yeah, whatever.  See and be seen scene (does anyone ever actually EAT at The Palm, blech) goodbye.

Decades, baby.  They must be doing something right.

Ah Prime Rib... I heard great things... Amazing things!  I thought I would be getting the best of the best.  Unfortunately, I bought into the hype.  I didn't have a bad dinner, but I didn't have a great dinner either. Let's start with something that was great:  the service.  Our waiter was amazing.  Very attentive, very informative, very polite, and just a cool guy.  If it wasn't for the great service, Prime Rib may have only scored 2 stars.  Also, the potato skins were awesome with the horseradish sauce.  Definitely worth getting, even if you only have time to stop in for drinks.

The bad:  the bread.  It was plain, cold, and didn't seem fresh.  Also, the mushrooms were rubbery and lacked taste.

The okay:  the tuna appetizer was worth eating, but that isn't really a ringing endorsement.  I doubt that I would order it again, and its executed better for less at about 100 places downtown.

The somewhat better than okay, but not great:  The steak.  I ordered the prime rib, medium rare.  The steak was closer to medium than medium rare, lacked the rich flavor I expected, and was far chewier than it should have been.  It was an okay steak, maybe somewhat better than okay, but that was the major problem here.  I expected the best prime rib I've ever had, but what I got was a serviceable cut of meat at an overly inflated price.

All in all, my trip to the Prime Rib was good, not great, not amazing, but good.  While I might stop in for some potato skins and a few drinks, but I doubt I will be going back for a steak dinner with so many other options around town.

My colleagues and I ate here for Restaurant week--it was by far THE WORST DC restaurant experience I have ever experienced.  The service was awful, food was mediocre (all 4 of us felt ill afterwards...we think it must've been the cream spinach).  Our waiter couldn't have been more rude/curt. WE felt like we were 2nd class citizens, bc we weren't 50 years old.  One of the food runners spilt water on my burberry sports coat. Restaurant was cluttered...we were in the middle of everything however waited 15 mins to receive a menu, and another 1.3 hours to get our entrees. Phillip was our waiter, and couldn't have been more unwelcoming.  As hospitality industry professionals (we all work at a luxury hotel in DC) this was by far a huge slap in the face to us.  We will never send a guest here again!  On a lighter note, could you put some of your revenue into remodeling??? Talk about outdated 1970's feeling...and the ceiling?? REALLY?

I took the bf here for his b-day. It was the most money I have ever spent on a meal in my life and I have to say that I was most defintiely disappointed for the money that I spent and would have still been disappointed had it only been half the price :{  Our waiter was very helpful and the appetizer of potato skins was good. My boyfriend got the prime rib, which he enjoyed and I liked the mashed potatoes and that is pretty much where the positives end. I got the salmon, which was some of the worst I have ever gotten at a restaurant before, the soup was nothing special and I dont even remember what I got for dessert, so it clearly wasnt great.

I know that I did not get red meat, but other great steak places in the area have a good fish option and this was just definitely not one of them.

This is what a DC steak house should be.

In my opinion, this is the best steakhouse in town.  Great atmosphere.  Very old school.  Very classy.

Cocktails were well done.  Steaks were all perfect.  I had the dry aged new york strip.  It might be the best I've had.

All the sides were great too.  Definitely reccomend the fresh corn and au gratin potatoes.  Everyone shares.

If asked for a steakhouse reccomendation, this will always be my first reccomendation.

    ***Restaurant Week Dinner***

Came here for RW 2011 with the fam and a friend's fam. It's very formal and the restaurant requires guys to wear jackets for dinner. Of course my brother, being the 21 year old guy  that he is came without one and thank God, the place let him borrow a blazer :D
There's a huge piano in the middle of the room and there's apparently always someone playing.
I picked the tomato soup as an appetizer, the lobster as a main dish and the creme brulee as dessert. The tomato soup was average, but the lobster dish was soo good!! The creme brulee was one of the main reasons I picked this restaurant and it was good but not the best I had.
Overall, I loved the experience; it's one of those places that make you feel special but if you're in the 20s you definitely feel overwhelmed with the formality of the place. Kinda reminded me of  a 1970s setting; all that was missing were the gentlemen smoking their cigars :D

This place is classic. I mean you can't beat their great service and their waiters with great personality! I mean how many times have you gone to restaurants where waiters don't converse with you and are so unhappy and it shows in their service? The waiters here are much older men and so are the patrons. Very old money.

However the food is excellent and the live piano player made it a sophisticated experience.

I wanted to love The Prime Rib. We got all dolled up for the occasion and were looking forward to a killer meal. Instead, we got an ok meal for a fancy meal's price.

The service was totally amazing: super attentive, crisp, and really friendly. But the amazing service didn't compensate for the only so-so food: luke warm soup, seriously undercooked steak served without the jus, a bland piece of plain salmon (probably not sustainably sourced), and under-seasoned sides spinach.

To be fair, we were there during restaurant week--generally not a restaurant's best showing--but still. The manager was very apologetic and took pains to compensate us (like I said, impeccable service). We'll be back, I'm sure, but I think we'll stick with the bar next time and seek our steak fixes elsewhere.

    1) 5 stars for the food over the years
& the history behind this place. Nicky B., may you rest in peace. We all respected you.

    2) Food last time around- 4 Stars. Still a great B&B dry-aged strip & a great wedge salad... Morton's - no match; Ruth's Chris - cannot
compare; and the Palm...just a play on words to this joint.

    3) Still great 5 Star service...

    But...

    4) decorum: hey, I still think the black on gold is classy, but a bit of a face lift may be in order... The carpets ain't getting no younger. Therefore, Three stars in this segment. "B," please spend more TLC on this baby...

Overall, I have to give it to the Prime Rib. However, I would also say that I may be putting my heart over my head on this one...

Yelp is a strange thing, I love it, but these reviews and reviewers are not mutually exclusive.  For Instance, a person may have an amazing burger at 5 guys and give 5 stars, but that same burger at Citronelle may get 1 star.  Or a vegetarian may give 5 Guys 1 star because they dont serve enough veggies.  I digress...

3 Stars in Yelp language means, "A-OK," and thats exactly what the Prime Rib was.  It was ok.

As we walked in to a bustling bar there was that tell tale smell like your grandfathers sock drawer.  The pianist playing December friendly music and folks dressed in suits they bought in 1976.  It kinda felt like Vegas in the 50s, although without the Rat Pack some of the nostalgia was lost.  What I mean to say is that for a dude about 30 and his much younger girlfriend you may want to check out a more posh steak house down the street.

Our waiter was wearing a rental tuxedo that he never returned and kept trying to save us money.  "The Merlot is just as good and $6 cheaper!" he said with a happy-to-help smile.  The steaks were tasty, but again I am used to the designer steak houses with 600 degree ovens and amazing Cajun char.  The point is that this place is perfect for the single man in his 60s, the empty-nesters visiting DC from Iowa, or anyone who still enjoys a pianist at dinner.

I thought it was going to take something like Restaurant Week (RW) to get me to a place like the Prime Rib, and while I was correct, it turns out that it wasn't that good of a deal, and I saved only $4.  For all of those people looking to save a few bucks on a good lunch, they have lunch specials that are pretty nice, and you'll be able to get your prime rib on.

Started off with a good Ceasar salad and then to the prime rib.  Yes, it was going to be a very hearty lunch.  The prime rib came with free mashed potatoes and creamed spinach.  Besides being a fan of all things free, I also enjoy mashed potatoes and creamed spinach.  The prime rib came swimming in its own juices, and being a klutz, I managed to splash my own shirt in what I can only assume was a combination of blood and meat juice.

That didn't stop me from having a great dessert of key lime pie though.

This has been a DC institution for years, was featured in this year's Top Chef, and is a mainstay for dinner, when a man plays softly on the piano.  For the full experience, I would head here for dinner and don't forget men, to wear a jacket.

The meal might have been four star worthy, but three stars for a relatively lame participation in Restaurant Week.

My boyfriend and I went to Prime RIb for Valentine's Day. We had a Bloomspot deal (which is actually their pre-theater menu) and both ordered caesar salads and prime rib. We tried both options of key lime pie and creme brulee for dessert.

So here's why I give this place 2 stars:

I heard that Prime Rib was voted for their atmosphere. We were seated in the tiniest corner of the restaurant literally almost on top of another couple. How romantic. And here's what I actually think of their atmosphere... it was too stuffy and pretentious. It felt a little warm in the restaurant and my boyfriend wanted to take off his jacket but as soon as he started to do so, people started looking at him like how dare he do such a thing.

The food wasn't anything spectacular, so I'm glad I got a good deal out of it. The prime rib came with creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. Both were bland and just did not complement the meat well. The prime rib itself was cooked to my liking but I've definitely had better.

I don't think I'd ever return to this restaurant again. I'd rather explore other restaurants that DC has to offer.

I was very underwhelmed by my most recent experience here.  I went here three years ago and remember being wowed, so I'm not sure if my tastes have changed or if their food has gone downhill.

I went for restaurant week and while the restaurant was busy, we did get good service.  The waiter wasn't overly friendly, but he wasn't rude, either.

I ordered the Prime Rib, mashed potatoes and the creme brulee.  I expected the prime rib to be fatty, but the taste was a little bland, even with the au jus.  The potatoes were also just mediocre, as was the creme brulee.  Thankfully, it was restaurant week, so I didn't pay an arm and a leg this time, but I couldn't imagine paying regular prices for this mediocre lunch.

Holy moly, this is such a nice place.  I went here for lunch with a co-worker for Restaurant week, but we discovered that they already a lunch special.  For $25, you'll get an entree, appetizer, and dessert, which is a good deal if you got money to blow.  This is the sort of place you go when you make partner, closed the Johnson account, or sold the murder house.  So if you're not celebrating, or got money to blow, then go somewhere else.

The food here was amazing.  The prime rib (house signature) was so moist, I thought I was eating a piece of steak flavored butter.  Mashed potatoes and spinach was excellent, and the key lime pie was like eating pure condensed milk.  Feels so right but it's just so wrong.

The only complaint I have is that this place gets crowded.  It might have been just because of Restaurant Week though, so I can't knock it down a star without knowing for sure.  I don't think there's a $25 dinner special, so that will keep more rift raffs like me out.

Came here for RW on a Friday and do not know if I would go back on a Friday night during RW again.  It was just entirely too crowded and because I do not have the smallest butt in the world, just trying to get to our table was a job without knocking everyone out in my path.

I started with the lobster bisque which was delicious - Next Prime Rib, which I absolutely loved. However, is it me or is the standard side dishes for restaurant week creamed spinach and mashed potatoes? Then for dessert, bread pudding. I told my waiter originally that I did not want dessert because I am not a fan of key lime pie or creme brulee. However he assisted that I order another dessert from their standard menu.  The bread pudding was delish and I am not a big fan of bread pudding.

I will definitely be back...However try to go during a week night and not weekend if it's restaurant week - May not be as busy and you will not get the rented banquet chairs.

I've been wanting to try this restaurant for a while, so when restaurant week came along I gave it a try...and it was disappointing.
The atmosphere was one of a kind: a grand piano, beautiful decor, black leather booths, and impeccable table setting. However, the food and the service were not that good. Let me tell you about my experience step-by-step:
As soon as I arrived I gave my last name to the host (he was smiley, nice, and polite) and I was sat right away, but I was not given a menu. After 5 minutes of being sat, a gentleman with black suit said: 'Hi, would you care for something to drink?' - I ordered, but still no menu in front of me.
I ordered a bottle of water and a soda, a few minutes later the buss boy brought me tap water and butter, but no bread...and still no menu. So, I asked for one.
My drinks arrived along with the menu, well...not a complete menu, I got a restaurant week sheet on top of an empty menu (there were no pages inside). I went ahead and ordered a Caesar salad and the Roasted Prime rib.
Within ten minutes the salad arrived along with the bread. The bread was nice and warm, but the  salad was soaked in dressing in the middle, not mixed properly, had 3 croutons (I counted them), and had a little Parmesan...it didn't look very appetizing...thumbs down for the salad. No one checked on me to see if my salad was alright...
The main course arrived in a timely manner with mashed potatoes and creme of spinach. The prime rib it was cooked as I ordered, but it was full of nerves, fat, and red blood dots of dry blood. I never thought it was going to be so disappointing...the sides were alright. The waiter checked on me dryly by asking: 'is it the right temperature?', that was it...
For dessert I had creme brulee and a double espresso. Thumbs up for those two, really really good.
The lunch experience ended with my waiter asking: 'You okay?', I replied yes, and I asked for the check (which was settle in a timely manner). My server was very dry, did not introduce himself, and made me feel unwelcome...I got his name when the table right next to mine asked him, Harvey.
The food was not good, except for the dessert.
Overall, my expectations of a great meal and service were crushed...
One expects outstanding food and service from a place like this, but not the case. I will not come back

The great mafioso atmosphere with the live piano player paired with delicious food and above average service deserve 5 stars

The Caesar salad was the best I've ever had; home-made dressing and accoutrements.  The Key-lime pie was spectacular

But... I had the prime rib for an entree, and it was really good, but I expected more than "really good" from the namesake dish.... sue me, 4 stars.

I give this place 3.5 stars.  I like this place because it has character.  As soon as you walk in and meet the host, you know this place has been around. Not your typical wannabe cigar and brandy steak house, Prime Rib is the real thing.  The lobster bisque is MONEY.  I like their prime rib and the way they do their horseradish, but I personally think their steaks are better.

They have a really good $25 three course meal for lunch; try it.

From previous experience, Restaurant Week can be extremely disappointing. Restaurants are crowded to the brim, service is not as friendly mainly because hosts/waiters don't think it's worth their time

However, Prime Rib just shoots to the top of the list of being a wonderful restaurant, especially during Restaurant Week.

My boyfriend and I came here after a long week of work. This place was packed!!! I was glad I booked my restaurant reservation one month in advance!

The server brought out our cocktail list..my boyfriend got a mojito and I got a Stoli elite martini with olives. My martini was good, but my boyfriend's mojito was a bit on the sweet side. No matter, as long as the food was good, I was happy :) and boy..was I happy!!!

We started out with a roasted tomato soup and Jumbo lump crab soup (only an extra $1.50 for this soup)! The roasted tomato soup was delicious and the jumbo crab soup was tasty (it's a vegetable soup basically but with jumbo crab meat in it), but there was barely any crab unfortunately. I probably would not get this again if I go back because the roasted tomato soup was VERY good. Yummy!

Both of us got the prime rib of course and wow, what a huge juicy piece of meat. Great portions and perfectly cooked medium rare. Especially for the portions, this was what sealed the deal for what an AMAZING deal restaurant week was for this place. On top of the prime ribs, we had the creamed spinach and mashed potatoes on the side. Both of the sides were delicious. The mashed potatoes were perfectly creamy and the creamed spinach was LIGHTLY creamy but not sickenly creamy (just light enough)! Perfection.

What ended the night perfectly were the desserts. We both got the creme brulee and the keylime pie. My boyfriend ordered a cup of coffee with it...perfect! Note that I have not found a single key lime pie that I have liked. I have never been a fan of it. Wow, how has Prime Rib changed my opinion completely of the key lime pie. I LOVED IT. Even though I typically would've loved the creme brulee (and please note it was still tasty), I just could not hold myself back from constantly going back to the keylime pie. WOw! Everyone PLEASE go get a slice!!!

I absolutely have to go back, especially during their restaurnat week deal. Wow, what a steal and amazing food!

Went to Prime Rib Sat 3/26/11 for dinner. The usual stuffy ambiance. Took a while for someone to actually take our order. Service was on the moderately slow side and was not extremely busy being that it was 630pm. I just don't think this place is what it used to be. Food was good, meat at Ruth's Chris is better.

Prime Rib is NOT a place to go in in jeans - unless you want the 3rd degree stare down from the time you walk in till the time you leave!  Er yes!  I found out the hard way!   I know I know I dont really have an excuse save that I was running late and my ride was at the door and I did not have time to change!  Ah well - the power of the economic downturn is that no restaurant can afford to turn away a paying guest!

Well, you'd definitely feel more comfortable if you adhere to their dress code stated plainly on their main door - tie(?) and jacket required.  It is a fancier kind of place afterall - they have a proper coat check before the second entrance door leading into the dining room.  They even have their dress code stated on their website: Business Casual for lunch.  Am just wondering if my business were "casual" and I work in jeans - wont that be business casual by my definition?  And wont my $200 pair of jeans beat a $40 off the rack pair of trousers?!  Just a thought but I digress.

As soon as you walk in you realise that this is one of those business lunch places cos everyone's in a suit.  You are shown to your table by a humorless looking waiter who stares at you as if you owe him money (er - ok perhaps because I was in jeans....)

The economic downturn has done wonders.....not always bad if you like to dine out .....cos Prime Rib now offers a $25 lunch deal.  You get a soup or salad, your choice of a main course (prime rib / steak / sandwich) with a side vegetable and dessert.  I had the prime rib (luncheon cut) and there was more than I could eat!

The deal is even better for Restaurant Week (16 Feb - 21 Feb) -http://www.theprimerib... - where you pay only $20.09 instead of $25!

At $25, it is well-worth going for lunch (it is not Peter Luger's good.....).  I would definitely recommend it if you have to go to work in a suit anyway!

Excellent steaks; excellent service; elegant decor; old-school charm.  The Prime Rib is a great steak house.

I went in May '09 and enjoyed the experience.  Booked via opentable, and had no problems.  The steaks are about $30 or $40, and expect to pay at least $40 for a bottle of wine.  Complimentary valet service.  The steaks were tender and juicy and were cooked perfectly.    Jazz piano was playing, and most of the patrons were over 60 years old.

Note: jacket and tie are required for men.  Ladies need to dress appropriately, too (dressy, business-casual, or business attire).  No jeans.

    I recommend.
