This motel was such a good deal! Modest price, lovely decor, good beds, great amenities, and very friendly helpful staff. It had a fine bathroom, big flat screen TV in good repair and we were able to park our fully packed SUV outside the door.

his is  good, old fashioned Yankee hospitality at it's best. The rates go up in high season so try to make it here in late June as we did. Portsmouth and the New Hampshire Coast are very beautiful and special and perfect places for all you Northern New England and Canadian Maritime lovers out there.

You cannot go wrong by staying at the Port Inn unless you wish to pay a lot more  in the heart of the historic district.

Also try the locals favorite restaurant down the street, the Dinnerhorn, recommended by motel staff and delicious! There is also a locally owned Fresh Market on this road that is wonderful.

Our large, comfortable room had a full kitchen with everything you need to live there: dishes, utensils, pots and pans... Plus free wi-fi. A good deal at an affordable price.

The front desk guy was friendly and helpful. He joked about Washington DC folks coming to town (perhaps for presidential primaries?) and charging them a 20%-higher anti-discount. He knew the Portsmouth area well, and made some informative restaurant recommendations.

The only downside is that you have to drive through a terrifying traffic circle to get here from downtown.

Port Inn is the best it could possibly be, considering what it is. It's a motel at a busy traffic circle on the outskirts of town. When I saw the website, I figured it was a total BS, but I kept seeing good reviews so I gave it a try. We were up for a week and needed to save some money, so we stayed here for two days of the trip.

When we checked in, we were pleasantly surprised-- the room was new and clean and didn't smell or anything weird like that. The bathroom was spotless and had granite everywhere. The room even had a microwave/mini fridge and a flatscreen TV with digital cable-- I wasn't expecting any of this. There was also a coffee maker that was in the bathroom-- kind of weird. The bed was super super comfortable (minus the tacky gross motel comforter which we always throw to the side anyway). I can't say I ever felt like I definitely wasn't gonna have my stuff stolen, but I still think it's the most comfortable I've ever felt at a motel.

The rate includes breakfast in the morning which is basically lukewarm coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and yogurt, and some standard pastries and breads. Better than expected, considering I didn't know breakfast was included, but don't expect eggs or french toast.

As far as location if you're visiting Portsmouth, I'd say-- if you can afford a downtown hotel, do it. The Ale House (our fave), the Hilton Garden, the Residence, and the Sheraton are way higher on my list than the Port Inn, just because they are walking distance to everything you want. But if you do decide to stay at the Port to save some cash, just park in the High St. garage in the morning and pretend you're staying downtown.

A clean MOTEL with a heated pool.  Don't believe the pictures on the website, though.  Cheap for the area, for a reason.

If you can afford a better place, do, unless you like free samples of bath products.  Seriously, they have the standard soap, shampoo, etc., but then they ALSO have SAMPLES of pert plus, oil of olay, Tide (Tide? who needs that at a MOTEL??).  I mean, what the heck?  Are they the free samples you get in the mail? Did they take a handful at a street festival?  Totally and bizarely random.

It's not within walking distance of the Historic Downtown/Waterfront area of Portsmouth but I would recommend this lodging ! From the outside it looks to be a well kept older motel but open the door and you feel very comfortable-and ready for a good nights rest! The beds and linens were of high quality, the bathroom feels brand new, marble counters, plenty of counter space, lots of wall outlets and small refrigerator, microwave, iron, luggage racks, real glassware for drinking and coffee maker. There are even laundry facilities at this Inn! Lobby had fresh fruits, yogurts, pastries, fresh coffee, juice and tea for the morning. Would recommend staying here for the price and right on Route 1.

Amazing value. Stayed in the cheapest "economy" rooms, 18 and 19 at the front, on the motor court facing the street, and each was impeccable. Not a resort, not ultra-luxe or ultra-modern, but big for the money and equipped better than most 3-4 star places I've been lately and cleaner than any -- bar none. Freshly redecorated top to bottom and perfectly maintained. Spotless, everything in place, and zero hotel stench. Free wi-fi. Great owners / staff, extremely knowledgeable, personable, and service oriented, making this place what it is. Would recommend to anyone with reason to be in Portsmouth.

Continental breakfast was just alright, decent enough. Good coffee and plenty of it, teas, cocoa, juice, milk etc. Heavy on the sugar and carbs from breads and pastries, none exactly popping fresh, no protein to speak of but cream cheese, peanut butter, packaged yogurt, and no place to eat but the reception area chairs.  Definitely not a bad spread, will get you going, and only notable in that it doesn't match the perfection of every other aspect of the hotel's operation.

Not a five star hotel, but for the money you get a great deal. Probably one of the cleanest, if not the cleanest, hotel/motel/inn rooms I have ever stayed in. Would definitely stay here again.

This place was perfect for a stop on the way to Maine. Super cheap for what you get, really nice and well-attended continental breakfast (yay mini bagels!) HUGE bathroom, clean, conveniently located near the highway, but also easy to get to town. Note: their hand-drawn map to town is charming but a little...confusing. But it's way cheaper than all the chains in town and probably nicer, too. I'd definitely stay there again.

Map location is approximate. Help us map it!
