We went to the Poplar Inn this past Saturday night for a Christmas Dinner outing with two other couples. This was our third time there in the last year. Each time has been a great experience.
The food has been outstanding every time with everyone being very happy with their meals. Hardest part in going back is deciding between the really good meal you had last time and something that others really liked. Steaks, seafood, chicken and duck have all been keepers.
The bartenders and staff have been very friendly, attentive and just add to an all around good experience. The live entertainment at the upstairs bar provides a good background for conversation. The atmosphere is kind that of a nice old country inn
The Poplar Inn has quickly become our favorite place to dine in the area and is well worth our 30 minute drive. -

Great food and great staff. Was in town for work during the week of Valentine's Day but, they were very accommodating to get me in. Started the shrimp and lobster bisque, which was extremely flavorful and had a nice couple chucks of lobster in it. Ordered the filet mignon and brussel sprouts, the steak didn't need a thing added to it and it cut like butter.

Just to correct a couple of minor things in response to what others said here (I'm a native of the area and know the place well)...
1. Sodas have never, ever been $6. They are $3. Note that sodas at Applebees are $2.99.
2. The owners of the Brown Dog are not, and were never, the owners of the Poplar Inn (other previous names for this same location are "The Courthouse Inn" and "The Poplar Place").
Anyway: it is the best restaurant in West Bend, hands down. Or Washington County, for that matter. If you're living out in the country out there, don't bother going to Milwaukee for fine dining. It's here. -

If you are looking for amazing food, a great atmosphere and great staff... this is THE place to go in West Bend! I love everything about the Poplar Inn. The patio is very nice during the nice weather months and the inside is very warm and inviting. Tony and his staff are top notch!

Whenever I am visiting family.. this is the only place to eat in town. The service is excellent and the food is very good. The restaurant is located in a historic building and decorated beautifully. We love the upstairs especially.
They once told us they get a lot of diners who drive specifically up from Milwaukee and I believe it. The place is great! -

I was impressed with this restaurant. The service was great (thanks, Megan!), the entree was fantastic, and the outdoor patio a plus. It was a pleasant surprise and a rare gem I would definitely frequent again on my travels.

Can't say enough about this place. Went there again last night and my wife had to restrain me from licking the plate clean. Food, waitresses, bartender, all top notch. Can't wait to go back.

I agree with everything Sarah Z. said BUT it's not called the Brown Dog Pub anymore. Not sure what it is now. Same owners though!

It's called the Poplar Inn now, conveiniently located on Poplar St next to the Library. Have to agree with most of the posts that the food is excellent and have never had a bad meal. Once or twice we've come across things that are undercooked or not as we would have liked it and it was always handled without a problem.
