The pursuit of the perfect pickle is not a task to be taken lightly. I have been disappointed time and time again by hazy jars on deli countertops borough wide until I caught wind that the Pickle Guys had made it to Brooklyn...and as the sign suggests there are under Rabbinical Supervision to ensure they really are as kosher as they claim!
Despite the vast array of pickled products I stuck to the tried and true variety-a mixture of the "New" (least sour) "50% Sour" (will only make you partially pucker) and alas, the lip smacking full on "Sour" variety. Like a bandit vacating a robbery scene I ran full speed with my ziploc, twisty tied shut to ensure the goodness made it home.
I'm still working my way through the lot...barely setting them to down to type this review. My boyfriend will probably be displeased when he smells his mousepad...he doesn't share my affinity for pickles.
Yay, it's a Brooklyn outpost of The Pickle Guys, complete with the NY sarcasm and humor that one must know and love to be considered a true NYC denizen.
So besides the great sense of humor of the guys working there, there's a huge selection of pickled vegetables. First for the pickles. There's sours, half sours and new pickles. Then there's hot pickles and horseradish pickles. Pickles that are pickled and dunked in horse radish! Super yummy.
Additionally, there's tons of other pickled veggies such as pickled mushrooms, beets, cabbage, peppers, tomatoes, olives, garlic, etc. They also have several different kinds of pickled herring.
However, being the purists that we are, we just went for straight up pickles in several varieties, and have yet to have a yeasty soured pickle (a sign that it's gone bad) or a misflavored pickle. The flavors are light and not overwhelming, just the way I like.
Pickled everything! A bit pricy for a pickle if you ask me, though. The staff there is a riot. We had fun talking to them. I don't think I've ever tried so many different pickles within a week.
Advice though, don't mix em. The flavor will run together :(
