Not much to add that hasn't been said. The cocktails are ridiculously good. The Bacon Old Fashioned was spectacular. The tapas were a great addition (pork rinds, goat cheese balls in particular). The atmosphere authentic. The servers attentive. Every cocktail is $12 and worth every penny.
One of my favorite bars I've been to. -

Overall: You should definitely go if you are looking to splurge! The drinks are pretty good, but if you're all over the place (like we were) then you may have a few misses. The cocktail prices ($12) are steep, but the food is reasonable ($7 - $10). The ambiance is GREAT (maybe, my favorite part?).
Service: Very Slow. Our server was terrible, but we were in an alcohol induced happiness so it didn't matter.
Drinks:
Juliet and Romeo: My favorite! (full disclosure: I'm a sucker for minty drinks)
Blinker: This was good! My boyfriend said it tasted like a Rockstar.
The Vanishing Edge: Terrible. I returned it and she quickly took it off the bill. It tastes like straight tequila.
Bacon infused whiskey drink: Very strong, but drinkable. I did not like it, and I don't think my bf would order it again. You may have to LOVE bacon to enjoy it.
Gilded Edge: Very good! The honey was a nice flavor.
Tight-Rope Walker: Too similar to the Gilded Edge, but not as good.
Food:
Cheeseburger Sliders: I enjoyed them! The burgers were a little too charred, but the bacon and bun were excellent.
Tater Tots: Nothing special about them except for how few you get.
Rinds: I never had them, so I wanted to try something "southern." After trying them, I don't understand the appeal. My bf said they were pretty bland.
Blue Ribbon Sandwich: It was decent. Something about it was too sweet. I wouldn't order it again. -

Was a little worried when I saw the curtain preventing me from peeking in. So glad I pushed on. The service was incredibly helpful and tolerated all of my questions. The cheap, delicious appetizers offsets the 12 dollars.
A couple of the drinks I had were just okay and basically tasted just like a vodka sour, but one drink that I had off the menu was incredible. Very coffee like drink. Can't remember the name.
I will be back. -

This is actually a great cocktail bar, and one can also either eat at one of the tables, or at the bar.
I have to say the cocktails are definitely some of the best I have ever had, served with a huge golf ball sized ice cube!
Been there on several occasions. The pizza is absolutely delicious. The humas is also good.
The place is very dim inside, and they have stools all around the bar, really great warm decor. I'd say if one is not interested in a cocktail, then this place might not be a good choice.

Awesome late night spot! I like this place!
Awesome drink menu! One of the drinks I tried I did not like as much, so the bartender changed it out for a Classic Sidecar; first time having one. I like cognac, so this was great!
I highly recommend getting the Fig & Prosciutto flatbread; it was great! It is just right if you are hungry, but don't want too much.
The flatbread was topped with fig, prosciutto, arugula and blue cheese. It was a great blend of flavors! -

So I've heard about Patterson House, from a friend of mine who is a down to earth but reads GQ. If you're confused about that, then you're not the only one. He did go there on his birthday and mentioned how the cocktails were great but pricey and the different types of ice they've put in their different cocktails.
Detail wise I really liked the look of the place and this was the surprise that my gf had painstakingly crafted so I wouldn't even know that she was in town. The staff did their best to keep the surprise a surprise. From the host and hostess-and despite their 'rules' with a dress code and stuff I saw people in shorts and t-shirts so they're not that snooty and some of the other rules actually make some sense; bartenders are people and I don't think it's snooty to call them by name.
I had two cocktails there, and they were strong, but smooth. How smooth and strong? Simple, they drank easy and after two I got more affectionate as my gf calls it; I'm not big on PDA but apparently, I get a few in me and I gain a whole new appreciation for it. We ordered some olives and hummus to line my stomach a little more so I wouldn't get too stupid.
I mostly had whiskey cocktails but every cocktail that my friends got all were delicious, well made and a few of the lightweights got pretty toasty of two rounds. Not an everyday bar but one worth going to.Listed in: I'm a little bit country,…, Noshville

After a somewhat disappointing dinner, I decided I was leaving nothing else to chance and taking up two independent recommendations for drinks at Patterson House. I'm so glad we did.
I'm a fan of places that do not pack patrons in just to make a buck. Much like my beloved speak-easy in Chicago, PH is one of those lovely places that only admits people if they have room to sit. I will admit it, I'm old, I enjoy having my cocktails sitting down. Furthermore, I'm a fan of the crafted cocktail. I might not be known to nurse a beer, but I sure do like to sit and appreciate a finely crafted cocktail, which is what PH delivers.
The wait staff is incredibly friendly, as were the lovely hostesses.
Given that I was coming off a cold, i went straight for the hot drink. A toddy was a sure-fire way to heal me, right?
We also shared the s'mores for dessert.
Drinks plus dessert served by sweet and friendly people? Perfect. -

I live in Chicago. I would trade Violet Hour for it's Nashville sister Patterson House in the blink of an eye. Patterson House is gorgeously appointed, laid back, cool and full of charm without all of the obnoxious Wicker Park denizens that haunt Violet Hour. sigh. The bartenders made for delicious eye candy, while the drinks they concocted kept the conversation flowing beautifully.
Whaddya say, Nashville, wanna trade?
p.s. we went on Sunday night - no wait at all! -

This is a cool little hidden gem on division. The drinks are all sorted by "liquor" in the drink menu, so depending on whether you prefer bourbon, gin, whiskey or tequila, you can pick your poison accordingly... Great place if you enjoy "mixology"! The appetizers here get a thumbs up - the goat cheese balls are good, and the chicken skewers are too. Service can be slow and staff sometimes are uptight, but overall the chic atmosphere and decadent drinks make it worth it.
(Space is limited here, so expect to wait for a table - they only allow a set amount of people in at a time, which can be nice if you're already on the inside. i believe you can make reservations, which i highly recommend.) -

Truly a gem.
The Patterson House is one of those establishments that invites you to experience and relive the 1920's. It's not just about the drinks or the food here, it's about the entire experience. I was truly floored by the level of dedication and thought they put into the recreation of this scene. Minute details such as the unmarked building, the heavy curtain that separates the privileged and those who must wait just a bit longer, the dimly lit chandeliers and even the arrangement of the seating all contribute to this fabulous ambiance of a forbidden and chic place to indulge our thirsts.
The level of service was fantastic, and I really appreciated the level of pride the staff and our server alike exuded in playing their roles of a staff in a high class hideout. The drinks are all extremely creative and the bartenders do not skimp on the alcohol at all; most impressive (again) are the minute details: custom molded ice cubes that ensure a cold and smooth finish, flavors that are unique but delectable and garnishes that compliment the drinks without overwhelming the customer. At $12 a cocktail, this place is really a valuable find. The Bacon Old Fashioned is remarkable, as is the Pimms Cup Variation and I'm sure, every other drink on the menu. If you ever go to Nashville, Patterson House is an absolute must! -

Amazing drinks, interesting and tasty "tapas" style food items. I wasn't sure if the slightly rude attitude behind the bar was part of it or if she was just having a bad day. Damn, she can mix a drink!!!

Our group had been traveling most of the day so naturally we were thirsty.
I yelped places nearby and saw mention of a bacon ol' fashion.
After tasting the bacon ol' fashion I can tell you this place is absolutely worth visiting.
All folks at the table agreed these were some of the best drinks we'd had in some time. From the grapefruit n vodka drink to their take on the dark n stormy, we all thought it was fantastic.
Awesome place that has a speak easy environment and the drinks to back it up.
Pretty work, we'll be back again. -

I don't know if this place *needs* another review, but I feel it's important to express the following: We went to The Patterson House two nights in a row because our first night was a 5-star experience (I'd honestly give it more than 5 stars). Unfortunately, our second evening was a 3-star experience (though the drinks were still excellent).
All the other reviewers who comment on the "exclusive" ambiance, the waiting for a seat, the curtains and mystique, are all completely accurate. The people who own/run this place are working hard to create a solid, consistent environment, which I completely admire. The decor, lighting, and feel are all perfectly well done. The drinks are VERY well crafted, and the food is tasty.
We sat at the bar on both nights we were there: the first night with a bartender named Miranda, who was fantastic--patient, knowledgeable, helpful, overall positive and excited to help us find the drinks we wanted. She made generous cocktails with such precision, and even gave us a taste of one of the cocktails we had discussed, but didn't order. She was wonderful.
Our second night we sat with another bartender who, though also knowledgeable, did not seem as genuinely enthusiastic or happy to be doing what he was doing. He wasn't as welcoming either. The service on this second night was a complete 180 from our first night, though the drinks were still very well made (not nearly as generous though!).
All in all, I really love this place, but we left the second experience with a sour taste.
Bottom line: if you like well crafted cocktails, this is THE place in Nashville. -

Wow, I now know why this place receives such high praise! I have visited the Holland House, 308 and now The Patterson House and it is in a class by itself. My experience included a super nice hostess and an awesome bartender (Doug, I think). He was very knowlegeable and made the best manhattan I have ever tasted. A few more veg options for apps would be nice.

Review from Ryan O.
Without question then best craft bar in Nashville. They are a bit picky on the rules but for me it adds to the experience. The speakeasy vibe is just right for my tastes. It's not as stringent as some that take it overboard in larger cities but not lax enough that you will have frat bros huddled up at the bar ordering jager bombs.
Sure the drinks are pricey but get over it. They are supposed to be. You are paying for quality and precision. Also you shouldn't be coming here for more than just one or two anyway because this isn't the place you go to get college style wasted.
The old fashioned here is perfect and on par with the best I've had all over the country. In-line with the bacon craze that seems all the rage these days and even more in-line with the local craze for Benton's bacon, the bacon old fashioned here is something every bacon/bourbon enthusiast should experience at least once.
Friday and Saturday nights are crowded and this place is small so expect a wait. Duh. Good places have long waits. Don't cry about it since you won't find better cocktails anywhere else in town. -

I'm another one who heard of the Patterson House via the Food Network. This was my second trip to Nashville, but I didn't make it there the first time. I had one thing that I wanted to do in Nashville on this trip, and that was the Bacon Old-Fashioned. Two of my favorite things in one glass? C'yeah!
We walked up the stairs of an unassuming building not too sure of what to expect. After entering the waiting area that looked like an old study (complete with some excellent house rules), we were greeted by a host who told us that for our party of 3, it would be about 45 minutes, but we could give them our number for a text message when our party was up next. We gratefully did this, and headed to another local bar recommended by the host for our immediate beer needs. Despite wearing 5 inch heels, I basically ran back to the Patterson House when I received that text message.
Usually in my experience of going to places that I've heard about on the Food Network, I've been disappointed in some way - service, price, quality, etc. Not the case at the Patterson House. Everything - especially the Bacon Old-Fashioned, was fantastic. The only complaint I have is that the water that they serve in glass bottles on the table was room-temperature. Not sure if this has any sort of speakeasy significance, but I would have dug some cold water.
If you're going to Nashville, like bourbon, like bacon, and really awesome atmosphere, go to the Patterson House. You won't regret it (even though your wallet might - hand-crafted cocktails have a hand-crafted price... otherwise I may have had 8). -
Review from Eliza R.
What more can I add to the hype about the Patterson House? I dunno, but this place is a DREAM. I went with three friends on a Tuesday around 11pm, and we surprisingly had to wait 15-20 minutes. But once those blue velvet curtains were pulled back and the bar portion of the space was revealed... love at first sight. I really dig the low lighting and antique speakeasy ambiance. The vintage books and jars lining the walls, along with the chandeliers, are a perfect touch. I also loved how the tab is presented in an old book that you can write in!
Our server was a cute indie boy in skinny pants, a vest, and tie, and since it was my first time there, he kindly explained how the drink menu worked and made some very good suggestions. I ended up ordering a rum-based ginger cocktail called the Dark & Stormy, as well as a Hot Toddy-type concoction called the Golden Bird. Such complicated and well thought out drinks are hard to come by, and certainly worth the $12 a pop. Yeah, for $24 I should have left Patterson House a lot drunker, but it was the perfect atmosphere for a group of friends to talk and relax. I love this place and will certainly be back! -

Even though I don't know a lot about mixology I'm sure the drinks here are very special. Each drink is made with the attention to detail that a gourmet restaurant would out into an entree. The bartenders can elaborate about every aspect of the drinks while maintaining the character of a speak easy. The food is good I recommend the mini-burgers and the Cerignola olives. The Juliet and Romeo is an amazing drink. Everything from the house extracts to the ice cubes is perfect.

Part & Parcel. It's like grapefruit juice on steriods with vodka. The wait was shorter for 4 and yet totally worth it. Turns out the taste-masters can't be viewed from the side booths but who pays to watch? You pay to drink.
And you bet your ass I ordered some doughnuts. That's right. I'm easy to please. Just give me some warm and gooey, cinnamon and sugar coated balls of carbs and butter. What was interesting about last night is I had talked the doughnuts up so high with my friends that had they not been of "quality" I would have been in trouble and lost my street cred. Luckily, I know what the hell I'm talking about. Of course all drinks are $12 so for two folks you can get out under $30.Listed in: 365-2012, Date Me, Love Me!, Midtown Management, A Quick Meet-Cute

If 3.5 stars had been available, that's what I would have chosen.
The Patterson House is ridiculous to find - look for a blue brick building on the corner of Division and 18th. I like that they do not have signs, that does add to the allure of the entire vision they have.
When my friend and I finally found it, we were a little underwhelmed with the inside space. The hostess was pleasant, informed us of a 30 minute wait for 2 (Friday night, 9p) and we settled into two of four leather arm chairs they have. The waiting room is lined with some bookshelves and "pretty" books and a heavy dark blue velvet curtain shuts the bar out from the waiting area, again adding to their 1920 speakeasy.
When we were ushered inside to the bar I was again underwhelmed. It's smaller than I had thought and most of the space is taken by the gigantic bar. It's quiet though, and dark. Most of the people there were on dates, so the whole "guys aren't allowed to approach girls" (which makes it seem like its teeming with singles) was totally unnecessary. Maybe it was just an off night for singles, lol, but there you have it.
So, why 4 stars?
THE DRINKS. Dear god, if you go, let the bar tender know you want an off the menu drink. They'll ask about your likes and dislikes and then whip an incredible liquid gold concoction for you. When I asked what was in mine, the bar tender rapid fired a list of 17 ingredients (definitely won't be making that at home!). It was delish. All the drinks are $12 which takes a lot of "pressure" off of worrying about which drink is how much. Just order a damn drink that sounds good!
The food was tasty, we split 3 of the small plates and each had a drink. Total was $20+ tip each and we were there for about 2 hours! Not too shabby and I will be going back. :)Listed in: MUST go to, Midtown, Most Popular goes to...

Review from Stacey L.
A great place to begin the evening! You definitely feel special when you get the go ahead to pass through the special curtain that blocks the nobodies in the lobby from the chosen in the bar.
I have been to a number of these speakeasy style bars in several cities and this isn't the best of the bunch. But, I do love specialty cocktails and love the special touches that a true mycologist will provide.
The food was reasonably priced, but nothing particularly special. The drinks were about $2 overpriced in my opinion. $12 is the same amount I paid in similar bars in New York and San Diego. Both of those places offered more class and expertise.
Warning... this place is difficult to find. The sign is super small and the building just looks like a typical house. You will have to look closely to find it, which I am sure is intentional.
For more info on specific drinks to order, check out the review of my partner in crime, John B.
This is not a bar I would become a regular at or even go more than once or twice. But, as a tourist, it was a great way to start one special bar crawl night. -
Review from Venu N.
The Patterson House's execution of the decidedly Southern approach to the speakeasy is simply masterful. After passing the unadorned entrance multiple times, we entered the hallway replete with period paintings and bookcases lined with outdated legal research material. The inside of the bar was shrouded by a simple blue curtain so we waited in the foyer. We perused the "rules" which basically comprised of not taking photos and being polite. The Patterson House's clientele consisted mostly of individuals in the 27-35 range with some excited young women in tight fitting yet sophisticated dresses for some appreciated eye candy for the admittedly lecherous tastes of myself and Viper. There were also some older couples as well as some college aged girls whose sartorial choices appeared to be patterned after their grandmothers.
We finally made it past the vaunted curtain and entered the bar. Dimly lit, it probably best serves as a date place. However, I was in the mood for a higher end experience regardless of company. I started with the Bacon Old Fashioned. While my experience did not border on the subliminal, this drink was certainly well crafted by our knowledgeable bartender. I tried a delicious seasonal Sidecar, the Black & White, and a number of other creations that brought a novel approach to traditional drinks. I ended with Patterson's House approach to the hotty toddy which was nothing short of amazing.
The Patterson House's reputation is not simply built on its libations but also on its culinary offerings. The tater tots tasted like McDonald's hashbrowns and were perhaps a bit too salty for my tastes. Having said that, they were tasty enough and the light aioli was a decent complement to the dish. More impressive was a delectable fried goat cheese offering served with a gorgeous red pepper sauce. The crowning achievement, however, was the hallowed Elvis Panini; they use Benton's bacon, peanut butter, and banana to provide this updated approach to the legendary musician's favorite treat.
For those looking for a classy, quiet night out with a sophisticated, "Old South" clientele, The Patterson House is a great start in Nashville. -

I first heard about this place from The Best Thing I Ever Ate on Food Network. Bacon old-fashioned?!?! YES PLEASE!!!
We put our name in and asked them to give us a call when our table was ready. That was so much better than waiting around in the cramped waiting area. It can get super stuffy!
Their nuts were also super tasty but a bit too spicy for me.
We actually came here after dinner so I was too stuffed to try and other appetizers or any other drinks.
But ohhh....bacon in my drink!!! YEAH!!!! -

Drinks: 5 stars
Food: 2 1/2
I don't know about this one, I could have easily given it a 3 star but the drinks we had were very good. Unfortunately, the food was just kinda meh. The tater tots ($5) were not really anything special and the Goat Cheese balls ($7), while above average in flavor, didn't seem to live up to the hype and pretension that permeates this place. Now, I'm all for a little bit of pretension and exclusivity now and then, but next time I visit this place (and btw, this is where you should START your evening) I'll sit at the bar and have a great cocktail or two.
As for my drink, the Eclipse ($12) the drink had a complex flavor comprised of Flor de Cana 7 yr Rum, demerara syrup, averna, and chocolate bitters. There was also an orange peel which made for a wonderful drink that was complimented by their somewhat signature ice ball. (Tip: if you want to make these at home, you can buy molds online. I bought mine from the SF art museum of all places. Spherical Ice Mold: http://bit.ly/tpH2Yn $16)
Another interesting thing our server Nicole stated was that the drinks become more intense the father down the list. So, mine was fairly strong as it was third of four on the Rum drink list. The other drinks in my group included the Dark & Stormy ($12), and the Bacon Old Fashioned ($12). Both tasted great. -

While you'll most likely see my at a dive bar or hole in the wall, it is nice to go somewhere like this every once in a while (and I stress once in a while)
Very old fashioned speak easy style bar. No standing areas. Have to be invited to sit to the bar, a lot of rules I'd normally find ridiculous etc. It was a great pleasure to sit down at an intimate table with friends and have nothing but our drinks and ourselves to keep us entertained. -

Very interesting place and fun that we have this in Nashville. Thank you to Yelp reviewers for helping me find it. There was a 45 minute wait so we put our name on the list and went down the street for a Margarita and mexican food at Chuy's. When we came back they had called us but the host was kind enough to get us in next. The hostess I don't think was so thrilled but there was space at the bar so all was good. The best part was watching the bartenders make the drinks. Very impressive but I really don't need to go back here for another $12 drink. They were good but the ambiance wasn't that interesting and the music was much too repetitive. I'm probably no their demographic anyways but it was a fun evening out and the staff was all very friendly and down to earth.

This is by far one of my most favorite speakeasies. It's unique, it's era inspired, it's high-end and it's sexy.
The decor is a mix of modern meets roaring 20's meets Ernest Hemingway. The drinks are complex and delicious. The atmosphere is intimate. The check is even delivered to you inside of an old book you're allowed to write inside of.
I like to try something new every time I go, but I've become pretty partial to the Vodka Cobbler. It's every bit as amazing as it sounds.
Be forewarned though, the prices are pretty steep (usually $12 per drink). It's definitely worth going for a couple of cocktails with your girls or mister though.Listed in: Party Down, Table for Two

I love the mixed drinks. They are total drink experts and use the best ingredients. The nuts are great, but most of the other food doesn't really excite me. The panini was greasy, and the flavor wasn't exactly what I was expecting for the price and standard compared to the drink.
Classy place, be prepared to wait a long time for a seat, and don't come dressed like a slob, it's a posh stylish place. -
Review from Em P.
Nashville, TN
I know most of this has been hashed out already, but I'll add my 2 cents:
Yes, there will be a wait. No, it really isn't that bad anymore and it's a small space. No, you can't bring a party of 15 bachelorette party Beckys in to be seated. Yes, there's only one table that can accommodate a group of 8. Yes, the drinks are expensive for Nashville. Yes, they really are that good.
I've reserved going to The Patterson House when there's either an occasion to celebrate, or when I have guests in town that would appreciate craft cocktails (my mother-in-law tried to order a mudslide...fail). My gameplan is always to start the night off here so, a) you really get to taste the cocktails in sound mind, and b) you are more likely to be sat quickly. The prices aren't really THAT BAD. A poorly-made rail martini would be the same price in larger cities. You pay for quality here. They change up the menu seasonally too, which is nice to have some fresher flavors in summer and the toasty warmth in winter. Don't forget about the list of classic cocktails in the back of the menu. I feel these are oft-overlooked because the specialty drinks are so interesting., but they make a mean gimlet or sidecar too. Service has tended to be pretty good, but always knowledgeable. If you tell your server or a bartender the flavors you like, they will make you an off-the-menu drink that will think they have booze ESP.
If I can't decide on what I want, I get the bacon old fashioned. One of my favorite cocktails made better by my favorite smoked meat. -
Review from Zeke A.
I think this is the first "speak easy" I've ever been to in my life and it's a wonderful gem in Music City.
All of the drinks I've had are superb. The attention to detail is amazing from the glass chosen to the garnishes. Patterson House is really an adult beverage playground!
I'm a fan of vodka and rum and have always enjoyed my drinks from these families. If you are overwhelmed on what to get just ask your server and tell them what you usually like. They can recommend something that will suit your palate.
I've only had the pizzas here and they were very delicious! They tasted like they came from a wood burning oven and I just loved the charred pieces of the crust. The special that was available when I was there was so unique - brussels sprout, roasted chicken and a spicy ragu sauce = YUM!
My only hesitation for not giving 5 stars is that the service can be a little off sometimes. One time I was there they forgot to bring out an app and by the time the waiter came back we were ready to go. Just make sure you are ready to be patient as the cocktails and pizzas are definitely worth it! -

This evening out was one of our favorites of our Nashville trip this past weekend! The wait for a table was long, but well worth it.
The drink list was extensive. Most drinks were separated by alcohol, with 5 drinks to choose from for each alcohol, and then a catch all list at the end of the classics. Everything is homemade, down to the bitters, so the drinks were very fresh. We tried a few different ones and all were great. Our favorites were The Southside and The Moscow Mule.
As for food, they have a small list of appetizers and snacks and we ended up ordering most of them. We were blown away. Every item we ate was fresh and fabulous. The doughnuts were an amazing dessert.
Definitely a gem and would recommend it to anyone for a classy night out. -

SWANKY! Love love this place. I wish my wallet could afford it as often as I would like but.. One of my favorite places back in Chicago was Violet Hour. After discussing this fact it became known that its the same owners- small world.
The speak easy atmosphere is a glamorous little twist for Mid town Nashville. Its dim lighting and 20's interior just takes you back to a time when cocktailing was a real craft. They use fresh unique ingredients and the flavors will wow you. You can choose your poison of Gin, Vodka etc and pick one of their creative concoctions. The Patterson House will definately be on my top list for places to go to for special occasions or just to let my boyfriend spoil me for a night out. -

The waiters are very friendly, but they do not ass-kiss. They just serve you a drink and make it really, really carefully. They then answer all your questions about the drink and how they made it, without any rolling of the eyes, even though you deserve rolling of the eyes.
The drinks are outstanding. Way better than the Holland House.
The atmosphere is cool, not too pretentious, good potential for star-spotting (on weekdays). Go for pre-dinner drinks and appetizers on a weekday for the best experience.
The wife and I love this place and continue to come back - highly recommend. -

This is definitely one of my most favorite places to go when I'm in Nashville. Very laid back, intimate atmosphere with very attentive bar tenders. I always end up ordering the Pimm's Cup and the Juilet & Romeo (YUM!).
I highly recommend this place!!! -

Two words...Grandma Barker. Holy cow this drink is awesome. I am always tempted to try something new at PH, but cannot stay away from this cinnamon and strawberry tinged whiskey beverage. It is currently not listed on the menu, but they are happy to make it upon request. Also, regardless of my hunger level, I cannot deny the bar nuts. Spicy, sticky goodness!

This was the first "speak-easy" type bar I had ever been to. I was impressed with the wait to get in by waiting in front of the velvet curtain. Once inside I was really taken back by the "emptiness" of the place. The "emptiness" is not a bad thing; it created a intimate atmosphere were you could sit and have a conversation without having to talk over a crowd.
We were able to get seats at the bar which proved to be the best seats, in my opinion. The highly skilled bartender would help us with our drink selection based on our preference and our previous drinks. It was like a guided tour through the land of cocktails.
While at the Patterson House, you MUST order the tator tots. They are by far, the BEST tator tots I have ever had; and the garlic aioli was decadent crowning addition.
I loved this place and can not wait to go back again! -

I came in around 5:30 PM on a Thurs for appetizers and drinks at the bar. My lovely bartender, Miranda, took care of me with excellent cocktails and the goat cheese appetiizer with "Elvis" pannini. The drinks were excellent and the food quite reasonable for the prices. I left with a $44 bill before my tip - I will be back again for more!

Here's the deal. The cocktails are really exceptional and works of art. The quality of the ingredients are evident. Now..... let's talk about the rest of the establishment. The hostess' are typically rude and make sure they project a "I don't care if you come to drink here or not - you're bothering me"-attitude. This is the schtick - You are a nobody unless you happen to be some regular or in you throw your money around to get special... well actually normal .... treatment. On one level it works because for the wannabe's that want to "be all that" they like the sense of getting in a place that is exclusive. To people who travel and have experience many lounges and VIP clubs... it's a joke.... their attitude.
Nonetheless, it's pricy and pretentious when it could be exclusive and charming. My sensibilities become fatigued here very fast and become an amazing bore.... I will need to try the Holland House which is similar in it's cocktails and concoctions. I just hope they don't have the snottiness. -

Going on a weeknight is a completely different experience at The Patterson House. Staff were much more attentive, the wait was non-existent, and the atmosphere was much more low key and relaxing. Of course the drinks were superb, as always, and this time our nibbles were fresh and delicious.
