If you haven't made a point to step back in time at The Patterson House, you're missing out on the best place Midtown has to offer.

The drink menu is amazing. Classic cocktails, inventive drinks with all sorts of different tastes from which to choose along with the proper mixing and you'll know the bartenders are outstanding. if you go often enough, they will get to know you right down to which drink you'll choose to end the evening.

Also, try some of the food options. The BBQ Sliders and Doughnuts will absolutely blow you away.

I highly recommend this place for any occasion. However, make sure if you go, you plan to spend a little bit of money and bring only a few people. Limited seating (this is non-negotiable) and a certain clientele make the Patterson House a grand experience.

Freshly made cocktails at $11 a piece.  Lots of drink options.

Sorry, I guess I am a jaded New Yorker when it comes to these types of places.  I think they are more of an anti social gathering place, with their rules and all about having to be in a seat to have drink.  The rules which you can read out in the main room are stolen directly from another bar called Milk and Honey.

Also, the people who started this bar have another place in Chicago called the Violet Hour with the same concept.

Didn't try any food here, but it all sounded tasty.  I guess if I was hungry for food, I would have stayed for more than one drink.

This place makes me want to tighten my corset, cock my head, batt my eyelashes and say -"Oh, why thank ya kind sir!"

There ain't no doubt that this an absolute unique experience.  This is not the place to just stop by to have a drink.  These are unique cocktails that are made to order.  The bartenders are in 1800s garb.  They use authentic, turn-of-the-century ingredients like bitters and cola.  Ice comes in blocks, not cubes.  You come here, patiently wait for a seat, order a drink you have only heard of from your great grand dad, and then flourish in great conversation.

A wonderful, unique experience in Nashville.

We came for anniversary cocktails, sat at the bar and became instantly hypnotized by the shimmering atmosphere: rows of housemade tinctures and sundry garnishes, metallic Victoriana wallpaper, crystal chandeliers and a wall of books. The place is gorgeous.
We had a Vincent's Ruin (Bulleit Bourbon, Lemon, St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur, La Muse Verte Absinthe, Lemon Bitters)
and a Spring Sazerac (Old Overholdt Rye, Rothman & Winter Apricot Liqueur, Herbsaint, Peychaud's Bitters, to best of memory).
We'd heard it was laid back and quiet, but I don't think the room is large enough to quite pull off the "quiet" claim, though it hardly seems fair to blame anyone for their good cheer in a room like that.

Hello, Patterson House. Since I live in Chicago, I consider you the Violet Hour of Nashville. The menus are not the same - there is some overlap, like the Tequilla Mockingbird and the Juliet and Romeo. But the Patterson has its own delights, too, including the Cooper's Bright and the Maisy Day. The Maisy Day tastes like a sophisticated, grown-up version of the vodka & tea I used to drink when I was 18. The Cooper's Bright is a gin drink with house made grapefruit liquer, topped with sparkling wine. Tasty, but a bit sweet.

We also had some snacks, the truffle deviled eggs and the shrimp corn dogs. The deviled eggs needed salt, like seriously needed salt and even the truffles didn't save them. I would not get them again. The shrimp corn dogs, however, were super.

I was not taken by the Patterson House's interior. It's an odd mix of traditional - dark wood bookshelves filled with books and nicknacks and crystal chandaliers - and the modern, with silver damask wallpaper. The dark wood with the serious-looking books did not mix well with the glitzy chandaliers and the shiny wallpaper. I think it would look cooler if all the books were covered with silver or white jackets. It's certainly not as relaxing as the cool blue interior of the Violet Hour. However, it's still a great spot with excellent service. And it beats the Violet Hour in that by 9:30 pm on a Saturday, there wasn't a wait for a seat.

I love bars...I love drinking...but spending $11 on a cocktail can be a bit much.

But this joint is spectacular. My friend and I came here around 8pm on a Friday night and had no trouble getting in.  It's very chill...and you're not surrounded by obnoxious jerks who want to be the center of attention.

I had the bacon old fashioned...my drink tasted like liquid Benton's bacon with bourbon..you really can't describe the flavor unless you've had one.

This is one of those places that you can't and won't understand until you've experienced it for yourself..

There is no dancing...there are no mixers....and yes the drinks are expensive...but  you're getting so much more then just a drink..

Perfect place for a quiet intimate evening..

Atmosphere was nice, if not a little pretentious.

But the main issue was the $11 drinks that HAD to be virgin. My boyfriend and I had two a piece and thoroughly enjoyed the flavor, however the potency was definitely lacking. If I spend $22 dollars in drinks for myself, I would like to atleast know I didn't pay that much for juice.

I went here for a girls' night out last night and we all had GREAT drinks and appetizers. I got the Huckleberry Fizz and it was phenomenal  It was sweet and Ginny at the same time. YUM!

I also had the tater tots as a snack and they were GREAT! I would never think of this as a place that serves tots, but they do and they were DELICIOUS!

A hidden new gem in Nashville, this unique restaurant/bar is more of an event.  We had a birthday celebration last night and it did not disappoint.  The huge variety of drinks alone were fun.  We all ordered different drinks, then proceeded to pass them around the table, thereby sampling tons.  Don't miss the ice in each drink - chards and spheres.  Also, we were told all the fruit juices are squeezed and make fresh daily.

Appreciated having a bottle of water on the table.  Just an added touch that makes perfect sense when drinking.

Small plates were cut to share.  Don't miss the shrimp on a skewer, s'mores and donuts.  I am normally not a donut fan but these are out of this world.

Another added bonus - NO SMOKING ALLOWED ;)

Service impeccable and attentive.  Our server took an extraordinary amount of time to explain the variety of drinks we had questions about and to make further recommendations.

Wonderful for most any occasion - and I will be back soon.

This place was so much fun.  I love that they only allow in as many people as they can seat.  I also appreciate the rule that men are not allowed to approach women that they have not been introduced to (apparently, the bartenders are able to facilitate introductions).

The atmosphere and decor has been described by other reviewers so I will not bother.  The drinks are separated out by the main alcohol in it (rum, gin, etc.) and the menu changes seasonally.  The drinks are so elaborate that it took me ages to decide.  If I drank more and could have tasted more drinks, it wouldn't have been such an agonizing decision.  Alas, I stop at two, so the Sunshine (their version of a pisco sour) and the Bacon Old Fashioned were my choices.  Both were excellent.  They do make some of their own liquors for some of their cocktails.

The food was great for snacking.  I don't think this would be a good place to go for a meal if you're starving or have a big appetite, but a panini and the shrimp corndogs were perfect for me.

As expensive as the drinks here are ($11 each), if I lived in Nashville I would go all the time.  Denver restauranteurs - everyone I've described this place to in town has been intrigued!

This place is amazing..enough said...if anyone has lived in a big city they will understand what a bar like The Patterson House is trying to do...they make you feel like you are back in the 1920's... or even before...It makes me want to put on a flapper dress and pull out my cigarette holder (although smoking is only allowed on their new patio)  the bartenders are attentive and know almost everything there is to know about liquor...yes any liquor...and I promise you if you know of a "classic cocktail" they can make you one better....the food menu is great...just enough food to fill you up...the menu changes seasonally which is fun and right now they have house made hot dogs with scotch whiskey sauerkraut made in house with house made sausage and buns....oh wait a house made dill pickle compliments the three mini dogs you receive...the winter blue ribbon sandwhich is amazing with house made apple butter, chicken, ham and swiss, along with the shrimp corndogs which cant be beat....end it all with their Brioche donuts tossed in a cinnamon sugar mix and add a Stingy Brim with it and you are good to go...the service is impeccable and the "no standing at the bar" thing really works...it is THE place to be on a Nashville weekend night....dont miss it...go twice a week if possible...a little pricey at $11  a drink but you can watch your bartender pour 3-4 oz of alcohol in each...drink two and try to walk to the restroom...then complain about $11  a piece...it wont happen...i promise...

I simply cannot contain my excitement about Nashville's newest addition, The Patterson House!  I went last night to the official opening and am just in love, plain and simple.  An intimate space of dark wood, leather, vintage wallpaper and library books provide a relaxing, comfortable atmosphere.  In addition, they score major points for having superb acoustics, allowing easy conversation.

Now on to the menu, which centers around signature cocktails and a long list of classic cocktails created by the firm behind The Violet Hour in Chicago.  All drinks contain house made syrups and bitters and fresh fruit - no fake stuff here.  And of course, not to be overlooked- the food.  Several creative small plates, all priced under $11. The chef is a veteran of Craft in NYC and Alinea in Chicago, so if you've dined at either, you know it goes without saying that it's amazing!

Here's a rundown of the drinks we sampled last night: Juliet and Romeo-unbelievable. Gin, lime, mint, cucumber, rose water. Could drink these all day. Friend had the Briar Patch- lemon, blackberry cordial. Next on to the Cooper's Bright for me- gin, lemon, St. Germain Elderflower, grapefruit liqueur, sparkling wine. (friend loved my Juliet and Romeo so much she ordered it for round #2).  Last but certainly not least in my book, the Moscow Mule- vodka, lime and fresh ginger syrup. Tingly on my tastebuds, ah, can't wait to have this again and again. Friend had the Pim's Cup, which was good, but she agreed- the ginger concoction was the winner of the night. If it weren't a Tuesday, we would not have hesitated to try even more, letting the competition continue into the wee hours of the morning!

I wanted to try this place since it opened and I have to say.  This is the best bar in Nashville by far.  From the unbelievable ambiance, to the perfect ice cube, to spectacular drinks.  I look for any excuse to come to the patterson house.  Wait it just started to rain, sounds like a great excuse to me.

Living right up the road I was able to watch the transformation of this once purple Cajun place (Patrick's) morph into the short lived but promising Edisto and now, its most recent and hopefully permanent incarnation as The Patterson House.

With no windows and a blue velvet curtain to sheild the bar proper from its anteroom entry one can really escape the heat, the noise and the meh that is traffic and summer and, when I am in a bad mood, all of Nashville.

You can escape that immediately at Patterson House and this is all before you have a beverage.

Speaking of - they give you water with your cocktail which is a welcome addition.  I need nearly a litre of water just to hydrate a bit and with summer in full swing I would prefer not to attempt doing so with alcohol.  I would be face on the floor before even approaching hydration.

Every drink I have had has been beautiful and delicious.  I am especially  fond of the Pimm's Cup.  In this heat anything favored by imperial India seems appropriate.  The food is very nice snack type fare - but on the quality side.  Grilled cheese?  Yes - but it's a panini and not greasy.  The Clemens panini is another craveable sandwich - goat cheese, rocket and roasted red bells.  Delicious.

You can get a bite to eat, have a little to drink and escape the elements.

Also - tax is included in the price of menu items.  It's so nice to be handed a bill and not see those stupid cents and such tacked on at the end.  Round numbers, thank god.

I finally got to try this place out after wanting to for the past 2 months - and i was very impressed! I'd recently been on a trip to Chicago and tried out a "sibling" to the Violet Hour, called The Whistler - where they focus on the ice, the homemade bitters, fresh juice, etc... I believe some of the people behind Patterson House had taken the idea from the Violet Hour...  anyway enough about chicago...

The outside of the place is very deceiving...  as I was wondering why they would build on this huge addition to the existing place and not put in any windows... and then once we walked in, it all made sense.
They're trying to capture the speakeasy atmosphere and they caught it!    when you first enter, you're greeted by the host, who then brings you through some heavy royal blue curtains and it opens into thie gorgeous dark  and decadent room.. The ceilings are low and covered in pressed tin...  one wall is covered in different size mirrors... the bar is a huge square in the center of the room with chandeliers hanging..  cozy booths line the walls..    The bartenders are all easy on the eyes as well..  if you're with one other person, I'd recommend sitting at the bar, as you get to see all the action.  It takes roughly 5 minutes to concoct your drink and the whole time its a show.  They carefully measure out ingredients, as well as taste along the way to make sure it's just right... and then you get a special glass depending on your drink, with a special type of ice created specifically for the type of drink so that it slowly melts and doesn't water down your drink.  To top it off, they'll then take out these medicine type bottles and drop in little homemade aromatics and bitters to make the drink extra special.
I first tried the Bacon Old Fashioned.. I mean, I love bacon... and I've come to love old fashioneds, as my dad has been drinking them ever since I can remember.  I guess he's been a fan of them since they first were popular back in the 60s and never got tired of them.. now he's excited that they're popular again and he doesn't have to explain to the bartenders how to make them anymore.  ANYWAY you HAVE to like bacon to enjoy this drink - because it honestly tastes like bacon!  It has this great smokey flavor and with a hint of coffee & pecan from their homemade bitters..  very tasty.  My boyfriend tried their Manhattan, not the classic version but whatever fancy version they make... I didn't pay attention to the ingredients on the menu, but he ended the drink by lighting the oils from the orange peel as he squeezed it over the drink - fancy.
Secondly, we had the Dark & Stormy (you better like ginger!  Its fantastic!  Instead of ginger beer, they make a ginger syrup and top it with club soda)  and I had the Juliet & Romeo ..  I have to say I DONT like gin, but I love this drink.  Just give it a shot!

Next time I want to order from their menu as the food looks great - items such as truffled deviled eggs, fig & prosciutto flatbread, nutella & banana panini, etc... etc...   I wanted to try it all.  All the food items are $10 or less... ALL the drinks are $11.  Which I think is a little steep - but I guess its alright considering its a work of art in a glass... just means if you want to go out and have a few drinks, plan on dropping at least $50 a person!

Expensive, but worth it if you're only having a drink or two.  The scene is unique.  You have to wait for a seat to open up, because I guess there's a rule for no standing or something.  The drinks are what you would come here for, and they're worth it.  Everything is made right in front of you.  In other words, I don't believe the mixers are pre-made or anything like that. The ice cubes are really cool too.  They have different ice cubes depending upon the type of glass used.

Nifty place tucked away inside an older refurbished, traditional Nashville house. I didn't dine with them this time, but was actually referred to them by our waitress at Virago. It's walking distance from the Embassy Suites - Vanderbilt. When you walk up the stairs and across the threshold you will then walk through a blue velvet drape covered doorway into the bar area. The room as mentioned in past reviews is without windows, but lined with bookshelves with filled with a lovely collection of books. The books give off the smell of a study, along with the combination of nice aromatic hints of fruit and spices from the bar. The bar is in the center of the room and is busy busy with artistic tenders of an eclectic list of concoctions. I had the Juliet and Romeo which begins with freshly muddled cucumbers, add gin, rose water and homemade bitters by droppers, lime juice, etc...You have to try this place it's fabulously different. The music reminds me of the club music in Seattle... nice cross culture beat.

I'm not really a "bar" type, so I was quite skeptical when my boyfriend said, 1) We're going to a bar with people our age (25-35), 2) They have books (a bar in a library??) and 3) they make up all their own drinks in this 1920s Prohibition style.  Parking was a breeze if you park on a side street.  We had to wait a bit because they were short a bartender, but I admired that they weren't overworking the other two bartenders.  Customer service here is 6 out of 5 stars.  They are just incredibly attentive and I never found anyone obnoxious.  They will turn you away at the door if you're not dressed nicely, or are wearing flip-flops, so the crowd was reputable.  The food is delicious, but the drinks, omg the drinks--they're spectacular!!  The music is played low so you're not fighting to speak and everything is just very smooth and laid back.  The drinks are $11 apiece and they're all top shelf.  Impeccable attention to detail.  They're also open until 3am on Sundays.
