A 24-hour diner ~3 blocks from where I live?  Bad news...

Parthenon just opened in March 2008, and I can already tell I might be frequenting this place often for my late night hunger pangs.  I went for the first time last night (around 11pm) and I really enjoyed myself.  The server was really friendly, and helped us out with some recommendations.  The menu was pretty extensive, though they didn't have milkshakes (which I consider a diner essential).  When we asked our server about that, he said that they would have more menu items soon, but since they were new, they were still working things out.  So he promised us milkshakes in a month

I personally love breakfast food, especially at night (it just tastes better at night!) but I was torn between the french toast with blueberries and ordering a breakfast sandwich.  Our server recommended the French toast, which I think was a poor choice, party because I really was in the mood for something savory rather than sweet.  But also, the French toast was kind of soggy, like it was soaked in eggs and not fully cooked.  My friends enjoyed their food, though (gyro deluxe and french fries), and I think I would definitely go back again to try something else.  I've also heard good things about their omelettes, so that might be something to keep in mind for next time.

Overall the atmosphere is really nice.  It's a big space, and really well lit and clean, unlike the two other nearby 24-hours places.  I would say The Parthenon Diner is a good substitute for Paper Moon, which is a little too far north for me to trek to late at night, especially since I don't have a car.
