I live just down the street from this spot in Echo Park and have been walking past it on my way to other fine EP eateries such as the Allston Yacht Club, El Compadre, and of course Barragan's. The menu and decor and vibe are somewhat similar to nuevo American spots in The Mission district of SF like Blue Plate, Foreign Cinema, and Front Porch.
The Pork Belly is the best pork belly I've had in LA. It trumps the Allston Yacht Club's -- although I'm not knocking AYC, their braised short rib is total face melter. My girlfriend got the veggie burger, which was house made and awesome.
The menu has all the standards of what you'd expect from a nuevo American type spot; hangar steak, pork belly, polenta, salmon, jidori chicken, etc etc. I'm glad that this quality spot seems to be flourishing -- with the newly added liquor license -- and I'll continue to support.
Just wanna jump in with an update. They now have the alcohol license, which is great- and the wines are delicious and not over-priced. Beer is great and they have yummy $4 Spaten. Damn good.
Went there for New Year's Eve dinner (6pm seating) with 5 friends. As usual- awesome staff, amazing food, laughter and love all around- this place attracts such a nice crowd. No pretentious b.s. yet elegant and distinguished food.
This team continues to rock. If you haven't gone yet- go!!

The Park is the most reliable restaurant I've found in LA. I've never had a shitty meal or shitty service.
Their cole slaw is incredible - as are the veggie burgers and josh's breakfast. who woulda thought corn quesadillas, arugula salad and two eggs over easy would blend mush mash together so well on the tongue?
Definitely a saving grace.
The Park spoiled my taste bud. I gotta go back!
Silverlake Funky. OK, Echo Park Funky. We started off in Silverlake as our end goal was a visit to the coffee snob headquarters of LA: Intelligentsia, but ended up taking a wrong turn on Sunset. As you walk in the front door past the modest outdoor patio, we were greeted very warmly by several members of the restaurant staff and quickly escorted to the dining room. Hmmmm. 11:30 am on a Sunday for brunch and plenty of room . . . not a good sign. Very casual decor. Being from Santa Clarita, I appreciate funky casual decor over the corporate cookie-cutter sameness found in spades in the SCV. Smelled good. Liked the look. Friendly and attentive staff. So far so good.
The brunch menu was creative. Several items appealed to my taste. I passed up a Monte Cristo French toast and a carnitas hash for quesadillas (corn tortillas) with gruyere cheese, two fried eggs and baby arugula salad. My wife had the veggie burger with home fries. Daughter #1 opted for The Parks Brunch Special - Mushroom, Cheese and Spinach Omelet, also with home fries. Daughter #2 went with a curry chicken sandwich, again with home fries.
No one was disappointed. I'm a big fan of corn tortillas and loved the pairing with gruyere. The eggs were done just right and when I sliced into them, letting the creamy yolks spill over the arugula and quesadilla, mmmmm good! I also tried their soyrizo "sausage." Very tasty but typically a little mushy. Overall a good flavor and texture combo.
I tried my wife's veggie burger (which she raved about): it was better than many I've had. Having said that, I am generally NOT a fan of veggie burgers . . but this one had a lot of flavor and an interesting texture. The bun was very fresh and really added to the experience. I also took a nibble of D2's curry chicken samy. Again, very good. I'm not a huge fan of curry anything and usually get blown away by it. There was just enough to make its presence known without overpowering.
Since we were headed to Intelligentsia, we didn't get coffee . . but they were serving it freshly ground in a french press (brought to your table). Waitress said it was from Groundwork coffee (local) . . smelled really good.
I'm tempted to give it more than three stars, but I'm afraid, for me, that breakfast/brunch will almost never get more than a three. Also this is my very first review so I want to give myself somewhere to go from here. Very good though, I will definitely go back. That Monte Cristo looked delish.
I give them four stars only because I feel they could expand their dessert menu for lunch. But no complaints on the food, it's great. Though I would probably say more about the menu if I didn't order the same thing every time I go there, namely the buffalo chicken sandwich, so tasty in soft bread. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Highly recommended.
What a lovely treasure in Echo Park! I've been wanting to try this place forever and Ben F. and I finally got a chance to. It was a Saturday night and luckily a table was available for the 2 of us.
The service was friendly, but the food took a while. He ordered the hangar steak and I had the half roasted chicken - BOTH delicious! The portions were perfect, all meats were cooked very well and the flavors were there.
Now we never do this, but we ordered dessert - the holiday special Ginger Cake w/Bourbon icing. We were stuffed so we shared and it hit the spot! You could really taste both the ginger and bourbon - so yummy! We'll definitely be returning :)
I've eaten here a few times but my last experience makes me very hesitant to return.
Good food but terrible, simply terrible customer service. A few minutes after ordering (and presumably before my salad had been made), I asked the lunchtime chef if I could change my salad dressing to vinaigrette, and she admonished me by saying that she didn't think it was a good idea to use my choice of dressing on that salad--even though the menu gives you two options for dressing for that particular salad--one being the vinaigrette.
Then the chef guilt tripped me by saying that she would have to redo the whole salad if I wanted to really change it. I didn't realize that if pay for my own meal at The Park, I don't have the choice as to how I would like it made. So as to not get into it further with her, I told her that I wouldn't change it since it appeared that it would pose a huge problem for her.
I actually came to eat lunch here that day so that I could purchase a gift certificate as a holiday present for my sister. I changed my mind after this encounter with the chef. I'll happily take my business elsewhere--preferably where my patronage is valued.
Seriously made $5 burger night a weekly ritual over the summer. Haven't been in awhile because we kind of over-did it, but I miss it. Get the burger with the tangy buffalo sauce and blue cheese- a tangy delight!
The fries are good too.
I've been meaning to go and try more of their seasonal menu- duck confit, butternut squash curry, polenta and brussel sprouts- yum! Would be great to try on one of their Supper Club Fridays. and now they have booze! yay.
Great people there too, and cute and sort of romantic inside.
The Park is a true gem in the eastside of LA.
i rarely become fans of establishments on facebook, twitter, etc., but i make sure to participate in all of this restaurants social networking because the amount of heart and energy from them is apparent in all of their efforts. they host special dinner events, prepare picnic baskets for dodgers games, host $5 burger nights, and offer $15 three course meals every tuesday. it's great to see this place embrace its neighborhood. they send out newsletters every week detailing their new menus from a chef who obviously and truly loves The Park and loves what he's doing.
i'm adding another star to my prior review for all of the great qualities and characteristics of this wonderful place in echo park.

i had a really solid experience here on $5 burger night.
there is something about the park that feels like 1998 silverlake -- a time before yelp and food blogs. a time when there was a personal, intimate quality to a lot of restaurants in the area. (netty's (RIP) comes to mind). a time when businesses here were characterized by DIY creativity amidst a largely ungentrified landscape. those were the days.
the park burger was sort of spherical, owing a lot to the bulbous bun that it comes on. the burger itself was a nice juicy medium. this is a burger you can finish in one sitting and be satisfied with.
and there is a whole list of creatively-presented extras and versions. i got gruyere, which was very necessary. be warned, the burger generally comes pretty dry.
another good point: for $5, you also get a side dish. the potato salad was pretty uninteresting. i splashed some tapatio to try to wake it up but it was an ill-fated battle. i think a few grinds of pepper and a little coarse salt could have done a lot for it.
flourless chocolate cake didn't do much for me either. perhaps because i wasn't having coffee or tea or a dessert wine.
on the subject of booze: the liquor list seems quite ample.
our waitress was cute, funny and attentive, even in a crowded restaurant.
be warned again: it gets super super crowded here. i've heard of wait times of an hour on burger night. and as you already knew, said crowd is dense with blogospherian hipsterism: skinnypants, vintage smock dresses, café racers and fixed-gear bikes parked out front.
(seriously echoboomers, party of 15 on $5 burger night? can you do ANYTHING in small groups? you'd definitely be eating more quickly.)
but the good news is that i had fun and i'll be back. see you there.
Dear Park,
You are one of my favorite restaurants in LA. There are so many reasons for this. Your "Speakeasy" nights, where we feel special cuz we're on the list, your $5 hamburger Wednesdays, your NEW liquor license (as of Nov. 10). But most of all it's your consistency: your food and service are always delicious and competent. I've never had a bad experience; actually, all my experiences have been nothing shy of excellent. Other restaurant owners should take note: 1. vary the menu but keep it affordable and thematic; 2. maintain the highest standards by hiring people (or BeING people) who obviously LIKE their jobs; 3. have a nice decor. It's really quite simple.
Am loving The Park for lunch, thanks to the current special of $5 for all sandwiches!!! The Buffalo Chicken sandwich is my new favorite and I crave it every week. A generous amount of moist, shredded chicken doused in buffalo sauce & creamy bleu cheese with crispy straw onions (definitely what takes the sammich from good to awesome) and tomato tucked in a fluffy bun = big flavorful WIN. I add the wild arugula and lemon olive oil salad for $3 -- a terrific meal.
Hope the $5 special lasts for awhile, but even when it ends, I'll still be getting my buffalo chicken sammich on.

Yum, this place is derlicious. Five dollar burger night rules; I got the J.R. (remember Dallas.. yeah, me neither, but my parents watched it after I went to bed). It was a bit more $ because of the bacon, yummmy. Fries are excellent too. My friend had spaghetti and meatballs; he seemed pretty happy about it. Another friend got a chicken dish, which I had a small taste of- also good stuff. I haven't really seen anyone make a bad choice here; everything rules. Not that expensive either.. especially on the special food nights.
Parking is on the street (which I can tell sucks), but we walk here from my friend's house. Cute decor and really nice servers. Water comes in that funny Ikea bottle to make it fancy. Sit inside or outside, both are really pleasant.
Loooooovely! The gals and I went here for their Speakeasy Tuesday, and we've decided it must be a monthly event. The service was great, the food.... DELICIOUS. The salad with grilled butternut squash was the perfect start. Then the chicken mole.... OMG. Tender flavorful chicken, cute little green pepper quesadillas, spiced black beans, fluffy rice.... NOMMMM!!!!!! Dessert was cinnamon bread pudding, and you know what... I liked it. And I HATE bread pudding. The only downside is the parking. But it's probably best that you have to walk a little bit- it'll ease the guilt of stuffing your face inside!
This may just be my favorite restaurant in the city - and for many, many reasons. It's not just the food or the laid back atmosphere but it starts at the foundation...
I love the people that keep The Park up and running. They are incredibly friendly, as if you've known them forever and they genuinely want you to have a great time while you're there. And you do.
Now, on to the rest...
The menu changes with the seasons, so you will never get tired of it, and the food that comes out of the kitchen is fantastic. It's like you're going out for a fancy schmancy gourmet meal, but at less than half the cost.
They have kick-ass vegetarian options as well, and the food is fresh, fresh, fresh.
They recently acquired their liquor license - they serve both beer and wine. There is a $8 corkage fee if you bring your own. So great!
On Tuesdays they have Speakeasy night with a $15 Prix Fixe, 3 course meal off a special menu, and Wednesdays it's $5 burger night.
Friday it's the Supper Club $20 Prix Fixe, 3 course meal, off the regular menu. What a steal!! My favorite night for sure.
During the week at lunch time they have a $5 sandwich menu too and the sandies are super tasty. The Sunday brunch is also delicious and great way to start your week (or end your weekend, however you'd like to look at it).
I've always walked away from this place feeling good about my meal, not freaking about how much I spent (or didn't spend at that) , and with a general happy feeling in the soul.
Go support The Park, let's keep her around for a while.
The Park is a great deceptively large dining room with great, incredibly affordable dishes. It's great for a date or getting a bite with friends after a show. The ambiance is pretty nice; I'm sorry I looked up and saw the cardboard ceiling tiles, but the paintings and fixtures are great.
The food is so reasonably priced and so alluring that you just can't help getting an appetizer and two entrees. My girl got the short ribs special and I had the salmon. We both cleaned our plates. We also started with the fantastic heirloom tomato galette. The food was wonderful and the service was attentive without being intrusive.
Recommended to people that have frequented other Silverlake and Echo Park estalblishments and want a tasty, affordable, casual date night.
A friend abducted me from writing this afternoon and took me to The Park to catch the tail end of Sunday brunch. We sat outside at a shaded patio table and ate our burgers with a view of downtown and houses on the hills through the wood lattice.
I ordered fried egg sandwich with gruyere and bacon, which was light, fresh, and fluffy, an unexpected surprise. The bun was soft and airy, and the touch of greens and tomato were welcome even by me. My friend ordered the veggie burger and loved it as well.
Our waitress was very cool. We ordered ice coffees, and she responded, 'Hell yea!' Then someone forgot their purse and she ran after her up the hill. The employees seemed happy, which added to the atmosphere.
On Wednesdays, all the burgers are only $5!
My husband and I came here for the Friday supper club dinner--three courses for $20 and BYOB, no corkage (hurray!). I honestly wasn't expecting much in the way of atmosphere or ambiance so I was very pleasantly surprised to actually find it quite endearing. It is small and intimate and very simple. I like the checked black and white floor and, come night fall, the candles made it particularly cozy. Plus we had a two-top which, for me, always makes the meal more intimate and I like that.
We were stumped on what to order so our waitress (who was friendly and helpful and never intrusive) offered some suggestions. I did the tomato and cheese thing (can't remember the real name) and husband did the calamari for our apps. Mine was good, but I had pictured something different in my head. That is not the fault of the restaurant at all, I was just expecting something different so couldn't fully adjust to what I was actually served--with was more like cheese in a pastry with tomatoes on top. Tasty but a little heavier than I was looking for. The calamari were delicious. Loved the sauce, the flavors. Very nice and a good portion size for a one-person appetizer!
Entrees were the jidori chicken and I had the salmon. Here we were both really, really happy. When my husband ordered the chicken the waitress said it was a big portion and usually people take home leftovers. I had to laugh because my 6'4" husband usually doesn't have a problem finishing a meal--but he took home leftovers! (maybe it was all the beer and wine filling him up...). Anyway, the chicken was delicious and he particularly loved pairing it with the mild bitterness of the arugula that accompanied it. Oh, and there were fries. Tasty little french fries that got all salty and soft from the chicken which sat on top them.
I found my salmon to be cooked very well and very nice but I think I really fell in love with the ratatouille that came with it. It was comforting and the vegetables were just tender enough but not mushy. Mmm.
Desserts--yellow cake with chocolate frosting and a butterscotch pudding. I won this round with the pudding. Don't think my poor husband even got a taste of it. So good. So... pudding-y. Yum. The cake was fine but probably wouldn't order it again. Not when there is butterscotch pudding to be had...
So, I say bravo to this restaurant for caring about making good food with quality ingredients and offering it to you at a very reasonable price. I think the supper club is an adorable idea--keep it up! And a quick note that the service was wonderful. Everyone was friendly and courteous and prompt. For such low prices, you could easily let the service go and think people will come back just because of good food and low cost, but they added to all that great and efficient service.
I love it here. The staff is so friendly, the vibe is so welcoming and warm--I could have rushed in from traffic to meet friends here, I could have had the worst day at work, the Dodgers could have just blown a great season on a heartbreaking postseason...but once I'm seated here all that stress melts away and I can just enjoy amazing food in a beautiful place at a great, great price. These guys seem to understand that treating yourself to a meal out shouldn't mean you can't eat the rest of the week.
I almost want to say I hope their liquor license takes a long time, because I love the BYOB option...but I won't say that, because the liquor license will be good for their business, and I want them around!
Basically, thank you, The Park, for being so unpretentious and wonderful. When I'm here I feel like family, and you've truly built a lovely restaurant that I recommend to everyone I know.
GO HERE NOW AND EAAAAATTTT.
Here's how I know that I've been in LA too long: I looked at the eclectic menu at The Park. I saw burgers and steaks and pulled pork and fish. But for some reason, I ordered the spicy grilled tofu. Three years ago, I would have laughed at the guy who ordered the tofu (TOFU!). Oh, how the mighty have fallen.
The good news: It was damned tasty. Actually, everything my friends and I ordered was damned tasty. The tuna and salmon were perfectly cooked. Crap appetizer was crabalicious. And the desserts--all good, but the stawberry rhubarb crisp was the clear winner, reducing three otherwise intelligent "adults" to drooling neanderthals engaged in a vicious spoon battle for the last bite.
Fantastic, homey neighborhood joint. And after your meal you can wander around Angeleno Heights and pretend you live in one of the amazing Victorian fairy tale houses.
It was a Friday night and I was excited to be going out to dinner with my wife and two close friends.
One of our friends recommended The Park and made a reservation for us. The restaurant is clean and the menu is pretty interesting *not amazing but definitely worth checking out*. The issue is the customer service and the saddest part of all is that it is not the staff with the poor customer service, it is the owner!
One of the people we were dining with ordered the steak and he was very clear with our server that he likes his steak rare. When his steak got to the table he cut it open to find that it was much closer to medium then to rare... He called over our server and politely let her know what the problem was. Our server took the steak and then returned shortly with a new steak and this time the steak was literally cold inside (at this point I was over all the back and forth but I get that it is difficult to cook meat and so I tried not to be annoyed at the restaurant or my friend for that matter!) what happened next was shocking and uncalled for and I would say that even if I was not a restaurant owner myself...
Our friend asked to change his order to the fish, assuming this would be a dish that the kitchen could prepare to his liking. Our server looked like she was going to faint and said just one minute please. The owner of the restaurant came over to our table and proceeded to tell my friend that she could not (really it was will not) allow him to change his order.
I know how hard it is to please everyone all the time and I also know how difficult it is to get every staff member to be 100% amazing every minute they are working but I do not have any empathy for someone making such a short sided decision as the one this woman made that ruined my Friday night dinner. It sucks to have to comp a meal but it sucks so much more to lose a table of four who would have ordered more wine and even come back if she had just handled this situation with excellent customer service instead of an embarrassingly low level of customer service.
A friend and I came here for a pre-show dinner on Halloween. We were super excited about the menu and of course - the BYOB option.
Unfortunately when we arrived we were informed that for the moment the restaurant was not BYOB. The main reasons we chose this little gem! In hindsight - probably a good thing.
We were both extremely happy with our food. Brussels Sprout Salad. YUMMY! I had the short ribs, amazing (like Mom's), while friend had spaghetti and meatballs.
If I lived closer to The Park I would definitely visit often. Actually the food was so good, a special trip may be in order.
very nice, quaint atmosphere. Had breakfast w/ friends and it was simple and delicious.
Friendly staff and good service.
Parking can be challenging but it's Echo Park. You expect that.
Awesome. Went there this morning and had brioche french toast with strawberries that was transcendently good. The home fries were really simple and not too salty. The service was friendly and quick. Definitely a new neighborhood fave.
This has become one of my fvorite food places by far! I just moved across the street and thought is grab it to go. Aaaaammmmmmmmaaaaaazzzzzing veggie burger that is vegan!!! Mmm! 2nd time I came in and ate the service was great. I love the homey feeling here too. I'm here for a 3rd time actually yelping from my
Table and yes, it is still Amazing! I Would recommend to anyone!
who can beat a $5 burger night EVERY WEDNESDAY. The veggie burger is off the hook! I usually top it off with some crispy unions and a side of fries!
I would also like to add:
All you people getting all uptight about the hostess, IT IS A SMALL NEIGHBORHOOD RESTURANT! WHEN IT IS A WEDNESDAY AND THEY ARE PACKED! DONT GET ALL UPSET WHEN SHE DOESN'T STOP TO CHAT WITH YOU FOR 5 MINUTES! I've been coming here almost every Wednesday for the last 4 months. She is very nice, but hey, if it's busy and she's running around doing her thing, shoot, let her work! She always says hello and that she will be right with me, never forgets who got there when and seats as many people as possible as quickly as possible. If you're looking for a place to go where you'll be waited on hand and foot go down the street to taix. You snobs make me so mad.
GO THE PARK! :]
I've been meaning to check out The Park for months and finally got the chance on Wednesday. I had always been very interested in the $5 veggie burger deal...nommmm!
The outdoor seating was lovely, the staff is VERY friendly and the food was good too. I will need to explore the menu with more detail, but must say that I was totally down for The Park.
OK...parking kinda sucks.
Oh and...the dude in the white SUV that stole my prime street parking spot, you know who you are, I wish impotence upon you.
We went as a party of 8 on Saturday for lunch at 1PM.
The good:
- The iced tea was good
- Caprese that we ordered was pretty good. $9. The side of home fries was delicious. Serving size wasn't too bad either.
The bad:
- They have a very limited beverage selection (attempting to be health conscious, so they don't carry many sodas, and for some reason, no lemonade either)
- Parking was difficult
Overall, not bad, but I don't know if it's worthy of 4 stars because I am not itching to go back there. But it's pretty good if I am in the area.
The decor is bare, the parking has like three spaces, and the menu is sparse. But, the food is cheap and excellent. My wife said this is like a Chinese restaurant: not much to look at, lots of cost-cutting, but the food is terrific.
I had the Jidori chicken, half a bird with one of the few chicken breasts I've had that were moist. My wife wondered how they did that, did they bake it with water? Don't know, but it was one of the best chickens I've ever had--crispy skin, moist, flavorful meat--and the stringy fries were addictive. She had the seared albacore, nicely seared on top, almost raw in the middle, with a very flavorful seasoning on top. The clam chowder was buttery with nice fresh chunks of clams, potatoes, and a sprinkling of bacon bits. Their french pressed coffee almost rivaled San Gabriel's Vietnamese French drip coffees, and they had a wonderful rhubarb strawberry crisp a la mode. Service was friendly, attentive, though you do have to wait a little for well-prepared food. All this for under $50! Next time, I'm bringing some friends along.
My favorite neighborhood place.
The jidori chicken might be the best roast chicken in the city.
Great clam chowder.
Incredible deal on speakeasy Tuesday
And the staff is great.
This restaurant has been mentioned several times in Los Angeles magazine under "cool place to eat" or "great cheap eats".
We happened upon "The Park" because we wanted to find a nice brunch place close to Little Tokyo, as we had errands there; however, nothing was open in Little Tokyo on a sunday morning.
So by hopping on Sunset, we perchanced upon the Park. And wow, what a great coincidence, as this was a great find. The decor is green, and there are pictures of trees on the walls that just play into the whole artsy feel of the joint. After all, you are in Echo Park, and Echo Park ain't Beverly Hills, but that's a good thing.
And the food is delciious! The three of us had a huevos ranchero, an omelette burrito, and a monte cristo sandwich, and we sampled all of the dishes, and they were excellent. Sweet and juicy! Yum!
Our waittress was friendly and helpful, and was so fun to be around. Like a classic oldie came on the radio that was playing over the loudpseakers, and nice thing you know, she's getting down and doing a boogie! haha, that goes to show you how chill the place is.
A great find, and a return visit is definitely in the books!
our waitress gave me a to-go box for the other half of my burger before i had even asked for it! that is some jedi mind trick shit. awesome!
i got the veggie burger. it was good. the bun was really awesome. i guess the wednesday $5 burger special is happening everyday now. awesome! overall, a nice vibe. recommended.
I've been a fan of this place since they opened but I stopped going when they cut off the BYOB - I don't mind paying for a drink but consider beer or wine an essential compliment to a meal out. Anyway, once alcohol became an official component on their menu, I was psyched to return.
After calling in and not being able to secure a reservation for our preferred time, I told the woman on the phone that we'd just come in and give it a try, something she said should work out. When we got to the restaurant, there was no wait but the place was full. The manager didn't even look me in the eye when she rudely spit out that they had nothing for us that night. There was absolutely no sense of customer service to her approach - much more of a "hit the bricks" attitude, which left a really cruddy taste in my mouth. While I have no problem being turned away from a place that is doing slammin' business - in fact, I love it when small local restaurants succeed - it's the manner in which we were turned away that really chapped my ass. Mind you, I'd eaten at The Park numerous times previously, and know some of the staff quite well, which makes what happened even more confusing. We were basically ordered out in a way that would have been rude to any kind of customer, let alone someone you're on a first name basis with.
While I've had great times at The Park in the past - including my birthday and the birthdays of a few friends - I'll be hesitant to return as I'm not too keen on supporting the livelihood of someone in the service industry who doesn't really give a crap about customer service. Oh, and the being treated like offal part wasn't too pleasant either...
Wow....the service was exceptionally great! I love the homey feeling. The outdoor seating was charming! The dishes are inexpensive and the $5.00 burger was pretty damned good! My brother dish (okay-I had to try his food) was so tasty. My Victoria enjoyed her French fries (she was a bit disappointed because chocolate milk and quesadillas were not on the menu). Nice place:)
Earlier this week, the Girlfriend and I went to The Park for their $5 Burger Wednesdays. The deal offers either the Sirloin or Veggie Burger with your choice of side (Fries, Salad, or Potato Salad). Premium toppings up the price of the meal but are definitely worth it.
I enjoyed Mushrooms, Garlic, Guryere and homemade Aoili on my Burger, which was made perfectly. For sure one of the better bites I've had in awhile. We did have to wait around 30 minutes to be seated because the place was packed. But for good food, I'd wait indefinitely.
Maybe they should get those beeper things they use at Outback Steakhouse.
The Park also has a $5 Sandwich lunch special Tues-Fri from 11:00-2:30. And with a pending liquor license this local joint is quickly becoming the top destination for cheap, quality gourmet eats.
the cuisine is mexcellent, the service is more than affable without being obsequious. Westsiders!--please stay home. too many of you have "discovered" echo park/silverlake. we can spot you miles away, and we don't like you. not even if you are Lakers fans.
jeremiad over. back to the park...
the alcohol thing has GOT to get sorted here, however: i coulda happily strangled someone (yes, a Westsider) for a goddam pint to go with the IMMENSE shrimp/cornbreaddy pancake aptzr.
the kitchen is treacle-slow so bring an interesting friend or an engrossing tome or you are FUCKED. the hackeysackers in the kitchen take their sweet time--nevertheless, it's a novel little place, a trifle spendy, but my god one's thankful for a place with some savoir faire and minimal 'tude.
the antidote to the appalling Allston Yacht Club downwind from it! hahahahaaha: i am just brilliant, aint i??
I used to like this place. I'd been a handful of times and had enjoyed the food, until I had the visit from hell.
Totally rude waitress, and I had to wait F O R E V E R to get my food. Delays are okay, but you've got to at least acknowledge that they're happening. I practically had to shout fire to get glanced at, and when I did manage to get our server's attention I got some weird spiel about how they take a lot of care with their food and that's why it was taking a while. Yes server lady I understand I did not just walk into Carl's Jr and order a western bacon cheeseburger, but it's been well over an hour here. Unless you are slaughtering a cow in the kitchen (might add an interesting wrinkle to the tired open ktichen trend) I should have my steak by now. The guy next to me has his and he got here after me. Sounds like there's no more free corkage too. Oh well.
The Park burger is the BEST burger in LA. It's big, beefy, and beautiful and it comes with perfectly crisp matchstick fries. Add a side of aioli and you have the perfect meal. I've had other "best burgers" around LA and this is at the top of my list.
Each time I go back I like to try something new on the menu and I am never disappointed. The innovative cheese plate was a trio of terrific comfort food. The fried green tomatoes with gougeres were as good as any I've had in the South. Jidori chicken is a standout and large enough for a second meal the next day. The service is always warm and friendly, even when the restaurant gets hectic.
Even if you are not in the neighborhood for a Dodger game The Park is worth the drive from any part of LA.
I went here a few weeks ago with some of my Echo Park compatriots to ward away a Saturday hangover. Boy, did it ever do the trick! We sat outside on some lovely mosaic-printed outdoor furniture (yes, I did say mosaic-PRINTED. You can see the pixilation. So strange why someone would do that...) and the adorable waitress brought us carafe after carafe of delicious french press coffee, fresh squeezed orange juice, and lots of "nom nom nommmmmmmm" inducing food. I personally had the pulled pork sandwich and wasn't disappointed!! I only wish they put some booze on the menu so we didn't have to discreetly spike our own bottomless mimosas...
Friendly staff and attentive service, two things that are really important to me when choosing a place to dine out. Have been to The Park three times - the best thing I ever ate was a lamb rib appetizer and the meat just fell off the bone. Some of the other items have been hit or miss for me, but the restaurant is clean, cozy, and friendly. Have always been able to find street parking within a few streets. Thumbs up!
