7 reviews for The Panorama Cafe
A real cafe (with vegetarian dishes) in the middle of Queens! I had just about given up and succumbed to Starbucks and all its franchise vibe and train station overcrowding.
This cafe is truly in a place you would never expect on Parson's Blvd between the GCP and Hillside Ave, right in the middle of a neighborhood.
But its worth the trip -- great gourmet coffees, teas, vegetarian sandwiches made on the spot and an incredible chicken caesar salad. There are often homemade casseroles and dishes put together as daily specials.
High ceilings and big chairs and couches in the back make it a nice place to hang out -- an old piano is there for walk-in musicians. In fact, on some nights I have noticed local performances and even slide shows and movies.
The problem is if you are driving you are likely to drive right past the place -- it is inbetween 84th Drive and 85th Avenue, and parking is only on the side streets -- not on Parsons Blvd itself.
If you come by subway, take the F Train to Parsons Blvd and walk uphill about 5 blocks.

This coffeehouse/cafe really fills a niche in this Queens neighborhood. I am partial to the Frappes on a hot summer day, like the Blueberry Rooibos organic looseleaf tea and am a big fan of the vegetarian chicken caesar salad.
There are lots of changing dessert specials worth trying but you will quickly become a regular if you like rich decadent brownies and gourmet chocolate chip cookies. And don't let me forget the gelato!
Last Sunday I had a breakfast special of eggs scrambled with spinach and feta served on a Gyro with cucumber tzaki sauce and hummus. It was perfect!
The ambience is vintage coffeehouse (but with bright primary colors) with a dash of peace and serenity. The free WiFi makes it a great spot to bring your laptop too. Be careful though - once you settle into one of the big overstuffed chairs you might not want to get up and ever leave.
This place is awesome! I lived in this neighborhood since I was 7 yrs old. I'm 39 yrs old nowadays. This is a great infusion of progress. I definitely like the free WIFI. The latte's are delicioso. The food is good. If you like vegan. This is for you. They have rock candy!!!! I better make sure my Mom doesn't find out. We had a english upbringing from my Mom's side. The King and Queen would want us to patron Panorama because it's good. Let's support them!!!!!
Free WiFi. Vegan treats. Good tea. Worshippers of spiritual "cult" leader Sri Chinmoy. (That's a generous usage of air quotes) Otherwise, the people who work there remind me of the friendly Hobbits in Lord of the Rings. Glassy eyes and large pot of soup. My apartment is near here. I've been reticent to post a review about this place because...my apartment is near here.
:o).
The Panorama Cafe has become THE cafe for my friends and I. It's a wonderful place to hang out around while sipping on some of their drinks to study, talk, or simply to kill some time in [as a matter of fact, my boyfriend and I had actually fell asleep and took a brief nap there on their wonderfully comfy couch lol].
Their food is like organic homemade food made by some of the most friendliest people. We have actually befriended one of the people who works there [he's a doll]. The drinks that they offer ranges from healthy smoothies, to chocolately delights, to capuchinoes, to refreshing tea. Ultimately, this review cannot be complete without mentioning their delicious selections of dessert. Not only are their cakes, brownies, pastries, etc. healthy but they're absolutely scrumptious :P [I'm hungry just thinking about it].
So I definitely recommend that if you're in the neighborhood and you want to try something new, bring your friends or date somewhere, or simply want to chill [and feed off of their free wi-fi], you should definitely stop by and try some of their food.
This is exactly what we need in this neighborhood - a real coffee shop where you can sit for a few hours and read, study, work on your laptop, etc. The coffee is delicious (as are the baked goods!) and the espresso drinks are well-made. Staff is friendly and offers great service. Free wireless, large tables, and comfy chairs and couches make this a great place to study or meet with friends for a couple of hours.
Edited 7/18/09: I hate to say it but I've stopped coming here - once I learned more about the "cult" or whatever it is that is affiliated with this cafe I decided to take my money elsewhere. Unfortunately, there aren't many (any?) other places in the area to go...
Did you know that the Guinness World Record for unpeeling and eating a lemon is 10.97 seconds? Or that the Record for most amount of jelly eaten with chopsticks in a minute is 455 grams? or that the Record for most hula hoop hulas in a minute is 170?
All of these records were done at The Panorama Cafe on Parsons Blvd in Jamaica Queens. This roomy quaint cafe offers a wide range of loose leaf teas ($2.25 for a large), with an excellent grilled cheese with sundried tomato bagel (whole wheat or everything bagel - $4). Hardwood floors with comfy couches and chairs, plenty of tables to read a book, study, or play chess. Free water fountain (hey, I need some cheap fluids when Im studying for 3+ hours at a time) & free WiFi. Walls are decorated with Guinness records that occurred at the cafe, as well as other things I cant quite recall.
Usually I roll my eyes at folks that say "I hear Queens is up and coming." I suppose shops like this provide supportive evidence of such statements. All they need are some artists to move into Jamaica.
Open 7AM-9 PM M-F, 7-6 Saturday and 8-8 on sunday.
