I go here for a Rajun Cajun about once every 2-3 weeks for lunch. The Rajun Cajun is the only thing worth getting on the menu. I've tried a few other sandwiches and always was wishing I got the Rajun Cajun. The Rajun Cajun is not good for you. In fact the Rajun Cajun is warm gooey badness, but damn is it tasty (add a little hot sauce to kick it up a notch though). Its also fun to say "Rajun Cajun" Ok you get the point.
This place made me even more happy when they offered "Shorty" size. You can get a respectable size sandwich (ie don't feel disgustingly stuffed after eating it) now for just 5 bucks. :)
CLOSED
Ballard location is still open.

What I like about Other Coast: the lattes. Whether hot are iced they are delish! And the ladies at… Read more »
$15 for a sandwich!!! I had to do it. It's a "foot long". By foot long they mean three pieces of sandwich awkwardly served on two plates. They might as well fill a trough for me and ring a bell screaming "come and git it!"
Ok, I made a mistake. I got a size that everyone (including the EXTREMELY friendly cashier) told me I shouldn't...but what's the point of having a size that no one gets?
The taste of it, I got a Ragin Cajun, wasn't too great either. The cajun mayo made the sandwich incredibly greasy and overpowered all other flavors. Plus the bread was completely scorched creating that glass-like crispiness that cuts the roof of your mouth to ribbons.
I feel bad writing a less than glowing review because the staff seemed really nice. I called in a take-out order for a half Reuben minus the meat, add roasted vegetables. That part was great. I wasn't expecting to pay $9 and some change for a sandwich that had been microwaved though. The bread turned so hard that my co-worker asked me if the sandwich had been made on biscotti.
the only reason why i didn't give this place 5 stars is because (at least at the time i went there) it was really crowded...
Other then that, the rajun cajun was spectacular and i CAN'T wait to go there again!!! YUMMMMMMMMM
GO THERE
Here is why I miss working downtown.
Two words: Rajun Cajun.
This sandwich is one of the best I have had in a long time. It was hot, melty, tangy, spicy, drippy and crispy. They use delicious french bread that comes out of the oven hot, but still flaky and tender--not hard and crunchy. It really wasn't as spicy as I was expecting, but it's probably spicy enough for most Seattleites.
I stopped in for a late lunch and the restaurant was fairly empty. It's clean and bright, but without much character (as I'd expect in a downtown office building). The only drawback are the prices--definitely on the spendy side, but totally worth it. Unless you're a 300 pound linebacker I'd suggest getting the six inch size when you order, because these suckers are huge.
This is a pretty nice cafe, but a little hard to find (it's inside the Union Square building). Good for me because it keeps it a little less crowded. They have a great selection of sandwiches, but they can be a little expensive (like $9+ for just a sandwich, no sides) and really messy. I've tried both the Rajun Cajun, which was delicious, and the meatball sub, which was really dry and the bread was so crispy from the oven that it flaked and fell apart in my hands.
There is also a significant shortage of electrical outlets; I wanted to spend part of an afternoon working from there, but my laptop battery wasn't fully charged. There also appears to be wifi, but it's password protected and I'm not sure how to get the password. And there's no other wifi within range... kind of a deal-breaker for me.
Will not go back again.
I have eaten lunch here on a few occasions but after one day of really bad service I do not think I will ever step foot in there again.
Their sandwiches are not bad, I liked the fact that they cut the meat right there.
One afternoon I stopped in for a chicken salad. They were not busy at first. You place your order and then wait for the "sandwich makers" to whip up your order. After about 10 minutes of waiting and watching like 12 people get their order that came in after me. I went up to the counter and asked the lady about my order. She looked through the receipts and said she did not get it asked what I ordered and said it will be out in a few. After another 10 minutes she looked up and asked me again what I ordered. I told her again. She then left the counter and after what seemed like 5 more minutes came out and started to make my sandwich. When she was finished she shoved it at me without even looking at me or anything. No apology no nothing.
My lunch is only a hour and I wasted more than half of it waiting for a soggy mediocre chicken salad sandwich and did not even get a "sorry about that" Never...Never.....Never again!
If God was a sandwich, He'd be the Rajun Cajun. And I guess I'd have to eat Him.
So good.
Tasty spot. I just finished a Ragin Cajun. I think this Sammy would be as good as everyone has said if you get the spicy sauce/mayo. Unfortunately, I don't care for mayo and the two sauces are premixed. Other than that, it's hot, bread is just right, globs of melted pepper Jack. What's not to love?
Great service, friendly staff, and free wifi.
Per all the Yelp! reviews, I tried the Rajin' Cajun, and it was perfection. Spicey, saucey, and super messy!
These sandwiches are huge, so err on the small side when ordering.
I love that this little sammy mecca is neatly disguised amidst the hustle and bustle of the downtown office suits in Two Union Square.
My fave is the Mantooth!! So good. And I'm also a huge fan of the chai there. It's spicy and not too sweet, as it should be.
The only explanation I have for my disappointing experience at the downtown other coast is this:
You know that band you really like. Their first record is raw and edgy and not perfect. it has this certain charm to it because of the flaws. Well that first record gets the band signed and they head into a real nice studio with an accomplished engineer. Their second release has professional packaging and is very clean. They gain all sorts of new fans. However with all these upgrades the songs just don't give you that same feeling that first record did. You still like the band but you wish they would have kept all the qualities that got you hooked in the first place.
I felt like I was eating in Starbucks, My rajun cajun barely required one napkin, and for the first time I actually thought it was expensive. I never seemed to care before. Sure the extra seating is nice but i still prefer the intimacy of the Ballard location.
My ratings are low because I know what the ballard location is like.
Way efficient lunch stop! This little sandwich place had a yummy sandwich and soup and it was heated and delivered to me quickly so that I could continue on my way.
The soup wasn't the best I'd ever had, but the sandwich was filling, warm and on a very tasty bread.
ive had way better sandwiches at jersey mike's and other chain like shops. considering its locale and prices, i was expecting alot more.
I'm happy that I don't have to make the trek to Ballard to get a couple of my favorite hot sandwiches---the Rajun Cajun and Chicken Parm. I wish I could eat here every day, but I'd go broke. A 12" Rajun Cajun goes for $12.95 and Chicken Parm at $12.75.
This downtown definitely has a leg up on its Ballard location in regards to its wide open seating area and acceptance of credit/debit card sales.
The same Ballard goodness in the downtown setting. Well actually, a little better than the Ballard location, in my opinion.
First off, the location is awesome and super close to anywhere downtown. Secondly, they take debit cards here! How sweet is that. And the sandwiches here tend to be made better, never burned, and served faster.
Not really anywhere to eat there, but the idea was more of a lunch counter, grab your sandwich and go. Which works perfectly for me. So if you like the other location, give this one a try!
I just had a Rajun Cajun and it was awesome and messy like a good
hot sandwich should be. The Chicken Parm is pretty tasty also.
Very impressed.
I had never been to this place before, but being from the East Coast I had to give it a try when my co-worker suggested it.
I tried the Rajun Cajun and if I recall correctly, I paused in the middle of my meal to declare my love to the sandwich. It was either that good...or I just need a girlfriend. ;o)
The sandwich was large - Even though I was really hungry, I had their 6" one and it was more than enough.
That's a damn big sandwich! If you've ever had trouble getting a 6 incher in your mouth, you 'd better do some stretches or something. These sandwiches are well worth it.
Go for the Rajun' Cajun. By Seattle's standard, it's a bit spicy, but it's absolutely delicious. I guarantee it's the best lunch you'll ever have, in a place full of lawyers, that's not in hell.
This Other Coast is waaaay better than the snarky Ballard location.
First of all: They take cards. Sheesh! They're really fast and it's a lot bigger, cleaner, employees are nicer, and I hate to say it....but my sandwich was really good. Better - by a lot - than the ones in Ballard. Yee-haw I'm so glad I work near this one. Or maybe not....good thing I also work near my gym.
Rajun Cajun is the best sandwich I ever had. Spicy warm. Yum. Even when I'm not hungry I stop by and get one.
Sub perfection.
The only disappointment I've ever had here was the chop salad, but really... what was I thinking lunching here during South Beach Diet phase 1. My bad.
It's the closest thing Seattle has to Potbelly Sandwich Works. So, I'll take it! I had their roasted veggie sandwich and their vegetable chili. Yum.
I go to The Other Coast every single day, about mid-morning. I usually get a coffee before I leave Capitol Hill in the morning, which you think would be enough for me, but The Other Coast is so good that it has lured me into a decadent, ill-advised two Americano a day habit. This leaves me highly over-caffeinated and ready to face the day.
And oh, the breakfast sandwiches! I try not to indulge on their cheesy-eggy-bagely goodness too often, but nothing clears the fog of a head clouded by a bottle of red wine the night before like ham, gruyere and egg on a poppyseed bagel.
Further, best baristas ever.
Want a real east coast style sandwich? Check this place out. It was recommended to me by a friend on the east side, who has to come all the way to Ballard anytime he wants a good sandwich.
A good sandwich you'll get. The full size subs? They cut them into 4 pieces...and you can make 4 good meals out of it. It seems spendy at first, until you realize what you just got for your $$. And tasty! Tastes exactly how you would expect a real east coast deli sandwich to taste like...Seattle style.
This place is great. It threw me off for a minute that they are not accepting credit/debit cards, but you can still write them a check. Great for those of us who don't carry cash on a regular basis.
Check these guys out if you wanna see how the other half live.
If you're looking for the best coffee and sandwiches in downtown, look no farther than The Other Coast. The entire crew there is always upbeat and friendly - obviously they're drinking the company coffee - which is exactly why I stop every morning. Ryan makes the best latte and cappuccino in the city. I love his hearts on the top of my latte!
If you have time to go back at lunch, I'd highly recommend the warm Rajun Cajun sandwich, with just enough spicy bite to make you feel sassy all afternoon. All of the sandwiches are excellent and made to order.
Check it out.
what can I say except this is the by far the best sandwich I've had in downtown Seattle for lunch. It's excellent.. I've had it three times in two weeks and can't wait to go again this week.
Rajun Cajun: Cajun style turkey, pepper jack, cheese, tomato & onion with spicy salsa mayo. Hot!
Great location in the little Union Square courtyard. While they have plenty of places inside to sit, I would always recommend sitting outside on a nice day.
So far, I've not been impressed with the sandwiches. The last I had was the capcola and smoked gruyere. As amazing as it sounds, they actually managed to go so overboard with the condiments (way too much balsamic) that the flavor of gruyere was completely drowned out. I pulled out a little piece of it to be sure it wasn't just an underwhelming piece of cheese, but not, by itself it was very flavorful. They're also quite lettuce happy.
It's also a little spendy for a sandwich (6" and a soda was over $10). Overall, the service was very good and I will try a few more times before I pass final judgement on the place.
Had the Cajun sub...it was huge!...and yummy...be prepared to get messy with that one. I went during lunch hour though so that meant waiting fairly long to get my sandwich (approx 15 min). Everyone else's subs looked yummy too.
Mmm came here for lunch and got a marinara meatball sandwich. The bread was deliciously crunchy but if you have sensitive gums, it might hurt a little bit afterwards. Like mine. But it was worth it. It's expensive though...I'd recommend getting a 12" sandwich and sharing it with someone. My friend loves the Rajun Cajun. Getting a 6" sandwich individually is so expensive...
I visted this place for lunch a couple weeks ago, and I was quite impressed. I ordered the Rajin Cajun sandwich. Immediately the name caught my eye, as I LOVE anything hot and spicy! The sandwich was delicious. They put plenty of turkey, pepper jack, spicy mayo, and some other tasty veggies. I got the 6 inch and a bag of chips which came out to about 9 dollars and some change. Not bad as the 6 inch filled me up a lot more than any 6 inch would at subway or quiznos. My only gripe would be that the veggies were a little soggy but other than that it was exquisite. Highly recommended!
A great place for sandwiches. I love being able to make a custom sandwich with everything I like.
But don't forget about them for breakfast! Fantastic coffee, artfully done, and really good breakfast sandwiches. One of my favorite lunch places.
It's a great place to grab lunch, I work in the Union building. I would have given it five stars, but I love the character of the original a tad more!
i enjoyed a roast beef sandwich. half for lunch and the other half on the plane ride back home to la la land. it's a simple concoction but full of flavor. the bread was not too hard to hurt to top of my mouth and the roast beef was juicy. it was also cool to eat with the locals since i was in "tourist attending convention" mode. perhaps my shorts and t-shirt gave it away while everyone was in scarfs and sweaters.
Two words: Ragin' Cajun. This place continually serves up the most delicious sandwiches in Seattle! It's a little pricey for a deli (1/2 sandwiches for about $7-$8 and wholes for about $13) but you definitely won't leave hungry.
The one downer is that they only accept cash at the Ballard location. But they do have an ATM in case of an emergency.
I tried this place after a reconendation and Im glad I did! Make sure you try the hot sandwiches!
