Lovely amazing B&B. Dianne is very sweet and quite the cook.
She made her signature croissant waffles...a little heavy on the syrup but amazing. Gotta try this at home.
The beds were wonderful. The best is being a block from the beach. 10min to see the Harbor Seals in Monterey and we walked to dinner as Lighthouse Blvd. is so close.
The house, the food, the afternoon wine and cheese, the decorations, and garden are a beautiful respit from a regular hotel.
Who wants to go searching for breakfast when you can have a darn good one here.
I'd go back in a minute ! -

Once again, The Old St. Angela delivers. In fact, having stayed here 6 or 7 times already just confirms the consistently good service, ambiance, and warmth of this charming Inn.
On our most recent stay, we found out that the PG Chamber of Commerce rated OSA as the best hotel/inn in Pacific Grove! Given the number of higher profile locations in town, this is quite the compliment!
Congratulations and a job well deserved!1 Previous Review: Show all »

I stayed at this really lovely inn the night before my wedding, and the hosts were so welcoming and warm. They were really helpful with special requests from this bride-to-be and put my nerves and mind at ease. My room was comfortable and quiet, and the breakfast was sensational. The gardens were beautiful and the home had a really positive and friendly feeling. Thank you Jerry and Dianne!

My wife and I stayed here on our honeymoon and we both agree that this is our all time favorite place to stay. We stayed for a week and never had a bad experience. The owners Jerry and Dianne are some of the nicest people I have ever met in this business. Dianne is a wonderful cook who makes delicious breakfasts every morning from scratch (strawberry croissant french toast, artichoke and red pepper frittata, etc...) and she also makes hors d'œuvres for tea time. They are available anytime you need them and are always able to recommend where to get a good bite to eat. They were also nice enough to let my wife and I borrow some beach chairs when we realized we had left ours at home. I don't think I will ever stay at another place in PG after finding such an amazing establishment.

What a cute and quaint place! We recently stayed there as part of a wedding party. In winter...it was pouring down rain the entire time, but added to its coziness. I loved the fireplace, the freshly baked cookies, and the wine and cheese hour in the afternoon. It ends at 6pm. Beautiful outdoor garden.
It felt like a nice place to relax out in the main living room area, which is exactly what we did. It's got a nice view of the ocean...somewhat obstructed, bu you can still see it. It's only about a block away. They put out a very generous spread of wine and appetizers. It was delicious.
We stayed in the Nantucket Room which is right off of the solarium where they serve breakfast. It's one of their smaller rooms, but for the two of us...it was fine. It's good that it has a small loveseat you can sit at. The bathroom is small and cozy and the jetted tub is a nice plus even though we didn't use it.
My biggest worry was that we would be awakened in the morning for breakfast by the noise of pots and pans since our room is right off the kitchen. But much to our surprise...the staff was uber quiet! We didn't hear them at all. So quiet.
The breakfast was delicious the first morning with a croissant french toast. ..but the second morning, when it was just the four of us...in the entire inn...it was ordinary. An egg omelette, that we could probably make ourselves. But with that said, the staff was super friendly.
We didn't see the innkeepers very much at all. And there even seemed a point that Jerry (one of the innkeepers) seemed irritated that family members for the bride came and hung out in the family room...turning off the fireplace and shutting everything down early. It wasn't even dark yet and just a little passed 6 pm. He didn't seem as friendly as his partner, Dianne...who was much more friendly to us.
But that's minor....we would stay there again. It's quaint. Close to the beach walking trail and even within walking distance to Monterey Bay Aquarium and Cannery Row. -

Old St. Angela Inn is everything you could want in a bed and breakfast. Comfortable beds, fantastic ambience, beautiful garden, great food, convenient location and congenial hosts.
My two sisters and I, with our respective spouses, took our mom to the Monterey area to celebrate her 90th birthday. In 90 years, this was her first bed and breakfast, and I'm glad we were able to give her the best experience possible. Shortly after we checked in, owner Dianne, put out wine, soft drinks and snacks.
We spent a lot of our visit in the main room, just enjoying each others company and the fresh baked cookies strategically placed around the room. It was like sitting in our living room at home, but with better decor. Breakfast the next day, an egg dish with home fried potatoes, fresh fruit, juices and lemon muffins was a complete delight.
I highly recommend Old St. Angela. Our only disappoint was that our stay was too short! -

This is a very charming and lovely bed & breakfast just one block from the ocean. My boyfriend and I spent a weekend here and it far surpassed our expectations. Location is great, less than a 10 min walk to the aquarium, shops, restaurants. The staff and service is warm, friendly, and very hospitable. We stayed in the Bayview room, which is upstairs with a nice view of the ocean. The entire inn is immaculate and quaint with a gorgeous garden. The breakfast was absolutely delicious! Not only bagels and coffee like you get at most places. They cook a hot breakfast each morning, one day we had strawberry croissant french toast and the other day they made us a yummy egg souffle with country potatoes :) I highly recommend this place for a romantic getaway or just to get away for some rest and relaxation.
Thank you Diane & Jerry :) -

* Delicious & generous breakfast and afternoon tea
* Large & spacious room (got a king-sized bed for price of queen in other places)
* Reasonable price
* Home is kept very relaxing - no TV & beautiful garden really helped add to the ambience
* Great location - between Monterey Cannery Row & Carmel
You may hear some bathroom noises from other rooms at times but it didn't bother us at all. We really enjoyed it and rested well. -

We love Pacific Grove and this inn turned out to be just the place to savor our one-night getaway! It is charming and peaceful with topnotch accommodations, service and food.
Since we have three children, finances are tight, so we chose this because the cost was on the lower end for a B&B in this quaint town, and especially one so close to Lover's Point (we could even glimpse the bay).
So we stayed in the least expensive room (Newport), which was about $200 including tax. It was cozy but not claustrophobic and the window looks right out onto the lovely garden courtyard, which has a waterfall, pond, roses, various flowers, and a bird bath (we saw a bluejay in it).
It was decorated in a pretty Victorian style with a rich, textured feel, but not overly so. The only drawback (besides minor noise from the guests in the room above us) was the queen bed (though I loved how high it was), but that was my mistake. I've been spoiled by our roomy Cal king, so when we return, we'll splurge and book the Garden Room upstairs which is large and has a king bed. My favorite thing was the jacuzzi tub - it took forever to fill, it was so deep, but the pampering from the jets made it worth it! I believe most of the rooms have one.
We had the afternoon wine and snacks in the garden by the patio firepit, which was nice with the cold early evening air coming up from the bay (summers in Monterey are cooler). The food was delicious - hot brie and pesto in puff pastry, veggies and dip, lemon squares, brownies, and a red and white wine. Breakfast the next morning was even better - strawberry croissant french toast with bacon. There was also the option of bagels, muffins, juices, etc. And coffee, tea, sodas, and cookies are available at all times. We liked what we had so much that we even bought the inn's cookbook which was actually published by the former owners, but they still use most of the recipes and have even written in changes to them.
I know I'm going on and on, but I can't end this review without mentioning the library. As my name implies, I'm partial to books, so it was a treat to browse and the shelves (lots of antiques but still very readable) and enjoy some quiet reading time with a cup of peppermint tea in the sitting room after everyone else was tucked in bed.
And finally, the husband-wife owners...well, we only met the wife since the husband was away...were warm, kind, and helpful. If you read through the guestbook, it quickly becomes clear that this wasn't just my experience - so many expressed how strongly they perceived hospitality and personal service. And that's not the same thing as the hosts being overly chatty - I prefer attentive but giving me plenty of space - that's exactly what I got. And when I engaged her in more conversation, I even felt like we'd be friends if I lived in the area.
Can't wait to come back...but it will be another year...and maybe one day we'll even brave it with the kids (they're allowed if they're ages 6 and up)! -

I cannot say enough good things about this Bed and Breakfast. I was looking to get away from it all and spend some quality time with myself. I did extensive research on places to stay near Monterrey, CA and finally settled on this place.
I was not too excited based on the web site pictures but something told me to try this place. Perhaps it was the fact that it used to be a convent and then a rectory, I guess I figured it would have to have a good aura about it. And I was right.
When I arrived, there was an afternoon spread of wine and snacks. The room was extremely clean, (and I am super anal about that) and the bed was so large and comfortable that after taking a bath in the gigantic tub, I promptly fell asleep for a much needed nap.
The owners were polite and kind but not intrusive. They also hired a wonderful young woman to help out who was very attentive and sweet. When I asked about the delicious rum cake that had been set out in the evening, she immediately gave me the recipe. (I have yet to try it but I definitely will, it was the best rum cake I have ever tasted!)
To sum up, this bed and breakfast could not possibly have been better. If you are looking for a calm oasis near the sea, stay at the Old St. Angela Inn
Some tips -
Call ahead to book a room, my room was cheaper than the rates on the internet and even though I stayed on a weekend, they let me stay for only one night.
St. Angela Catholic Church is just a few blocks away, which is perfect for those who need to catch a Sunday service.
If you want to watch TV while you are on vacation and a 5 minute walk away from the sea, for one - you are crazy, and two, this is not the hotel for you. :) -

The wife and I found St. Angela's on a random Friday night in Febuary of 2007. We now stay at least once a year. It's soo good, if they are booked on a particular weekend we reschedule our outing for fear of being disappointed by any other B&B....

Very charming Craftsman/Victorian B&B with views of the water-- a lot of the rooms offer Jacuzzi tubs, and the location is excellent-- walking distance from the beach, parks, restaurants, etc., and a short drive from Carmel. The garden is a cute place to relax as well if you feel like being lazy.
They require a 2-night stay on weekends, and they do tend to fill up quickly as there are only 9 rooms, but it's one of the more charming, personable B&Bs in the area (where there's a lot of competition). -

This B&B is really lovely and a great deal being that it's only a couple blocks away from the ocean in Monterey. Our room was cute and cozy with an old fashioned potbelly stove, super comfy bed and ocean view. Breakfast was a perfectly cooked quiche and potatoes, fresh baked cranberry muffins and seasonal fruit served in the sunny solarium. The beautiful garden is the perfect spot for enjoying the afternoon wine tasting and snacks (who can ask for more than sun, food and booze?!).

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon back in November. It was more than amazing!! It's just one block from beautiful Monterey Bay, with some of the most beautiful coastline I've ever seen, and just about a 20 to 30 minute walk to the aquarium (depending on how often you stop to look at the crashing waves). Luckily we were at the inn during the holidays, and it was decorated beautifully. The keepers, a husband and wife team, are amazing and were very accommodating. She is a gourmet chef, and the breakfasts were plentiful and delicious. Around 4 pm, there's a tea time, which is like a small meal in itself. We stayed in the Nantucket room, right off the dining area. It was very quite and private. The bed was comfortable, and we couldn't hear the people in the room above us. The bathroom is nice and roomy. The garden outside is a nice place for bird watching, or a lovely visit by a couple of raccoons as my husband and I experienced. The Old St. Angela is going to be the only place we will stay in Pacific Grove from now on. You just can't get better service and hospitality!!

I can't wait to come back to this place! We arrived just in time for afternoon tea, where we sat on couches in the living room with other guests and enjoyed a delicious bean dip and homemade lemon tarts and cookies with some wine. The Bayview room was cozy and had a decent view of the ocean right from the bed, which was so nice to wake up to, along with the smell of bacon! I liked the old fashioned feel (no TV, analog radio). The whole house was decorated so beautifully. It felt like a home away from home. We enjoyed a FANTASTIC breakfast in the solarium overlooking a gorgeous garden and water fountain. We had blueberry pancakes, cooked to order, along with a buffet of fresh fruit, granola, yogurt, and homemade coffee cake muffins. The inn keepers couldn't have been more friendly. We walked down a couple of blocks to the ocean and then to the Aquarium, which was less than a 10 minute walk. We had a wonderful time and will definitely stay here again next time we come to Monterey!

My Wife and I have been to this B&B 3 times so far and we intend on coming back again. There are a total of 9 guest rooms. we've stayed in the Cape Cod room located downstairs with a cast iron stove/heater and a partial view of the ocean. Our 2nd stay put us in the Garden Gable room, probably one of the largest rooms, it is located upstairs with 10 foot ceilings and a King size bed and a gable overlooking the garden. Our latest stay was in the Bayview, a craftsman style room with a queen bed and a view of the bay. All rooms have jacuzzi tubs and are adorned with cozy quilts and stuffed teddy bears everywhere which are for sale. There is a beautiful solarium next to the garden courtyard where breakfast is served. The courtyard has an open hearth and waterfall for guests to gather and mingle. This Inn is smaller than most of the other more gaudy B&Bs in the area and is only 2 blocks from the beach and a short walk to the aquarium. My wife and I like to walk the neighborhood and sightsee the the old historic houses. The Inn was a rectory then a convent before being converted to a B&B, so bring your beads if thats what your into.

My mom and I had no clue that our journey up the coast would take us so long. Luckily the inn keepers at The Old St. Angela Inn had no problems taking our last minute reservations and offered us a room to rest our tired bodies. We were pleasantly surprised to get a great rate for such an exquisitely kept inn. The grounds were beautifully maintained and the house was well kept inside and out. Our room was so cozy and relaxing! We relaxed a bit before walking two blocks down to the water for an evening stroll. When we returned we had tea and cookies while reading and surfing the web from their ocean view living room. Then we tucked ourselves in bed to the sound of the fountain bubbling outside our window. We awoke to a yummy breakfast that was gobbled down in silence, it was that satisfying. We went for another stroll, grabbed our bags, and some of their homemade cookies for the road. A wonderful end to a wonderful trip. With confidence, I recommend you meander on over to Pacific Grove and stay at this enjoyable inn. You will not be disappointed. One last thing, this is all written by a girl who can usually find improvements for even the nicest bed and breakfast around... no improvements here though.

This was a great Bed and Breakfast. The inn itself is great and the rooms are quaint. It was a block from the ocean so we went often to watch and listen to the waves. The tea time was an added bonus and the breakfast was delicious. I'd definitely stay here again.

Had a wonderful stay in this inn. The room was beautiful and immaculate. It had a view of the water and its own small patio. The entire inn is impecably decorated. The breakfast was fantastic every day, and the wine and appetizers served in the afternoon were just icing on the cake. The location is equally as fantastic. Only a block from the beach and a very short walk to Cannery Row. We found several fantastic restaurants within walking distance. We would definitely stay here again!!
