Wonderful place.  We took a chance after staying in the same place each trip, and we are so glad we did.  This was absolutely a relaxing destination.  The rooms were beautifully put together, and we had a view of not only the ocean, but the lake on the other side, too.  We stayed in a parlor suite which made for a great  way to eat breakfast and lunch in the room and eat nicer at dinner.

The staff here was very friendly and welcoming.  We used the parlor for a game of scrabble - they had several other boards down there, a library of dvds to rent, and books as well.  Although the wine hour wasn't a specific draw for us, I did enjoy some with our game.

Take advantage of the wonderful continental breakfast if you go, and the turn down service is also a very pampering option, even if you've slept in the bed mid-afternoon for a vacation-nap!

Don't worry about this not being directly on the beach, you are still so close, and there's a path right down the D River to get there easily.  But stay as high as you can in the hotel to get the best views!

I hope we get a chance to come back here again :)  It's worth every penny!

According to staff, the owners built this small hotel (29 rooms) when they realized that the other upscale hotels in the area were growing dowdy and vulnerable to competition from new construction. Although our initial impression of O'dysius was of an upscale, boutique hotel, execution too frequently fell short of the owners' intent.

But before we review the problems, I'll mention the many things that were DONE RIGHT. Our small room was well laid out with a spiffy slate entry. The furnishings were nice enough, the bed was very comfortable, and there were two nightstands and table lamps. The tile bathroom was small but upscale, as was the jetted tub. The shower was excellent. The plastic bathroom counter was, as usual, too low, but it was adequate for two people after the usual hotel junk was removed. The bathroom lights were adequate for shaving. There was ample storage and local calls were free. The common room off the lobby, where the wine social was held, was nicely appointed, bordering on elegant. It included a small library with a large collection of DVD's, most of them three-star or better movies. Staff was helpful. A small but good continental breakfast was served to the room.

Problems of DESIGN and CONSTRUCTION: Although the rooms were air conditioned, the hallways were not, and we were surprised by how warm they became on a sunny but mild day. Sound insulation between floors was inadequate: footsteps above us, apparently even those not directly above us, thumped through our room. The alcove above the gas fireplace was sized for a TV which was too small to be viewed satisfactorily from the bed. Although the bathroom was small, the towel rack and towels were placed out of reach from the sink.

Problems with FURNITURE and MACHINERY: We watched a DVD from a small, well-worn loveseat, because the small TV could not be viewed satisfactorily from the bed. Although breakfast was served to the room, the room lacked a table and chairs. We ate in clumsy positions off an end table and a magazine rack while sitting on the loveseat. I nearly kneed my end table and breakfast onto the floor. There was a one-person alternative, a small desk against one wall, with one chair. I placed our breakfast tray on the desk and served the end table and magazine rack from there. In the second-floor hallway outside our room was the ice machine, by far the loudest I have ever heard. When operating, it sounded like an industrial vacuum cleaner. On the other hand, the cheap plastic motel radio with the one-inch speaker was silent: I watched it search repeatedly through the entire FM band without finding any of the several stations in the area. The remote for the DVD player was so poor that it would not operate the machine unless held within a foot of it.

Problems of MAINTENANCE and REPAIR: One of the lights in the room was burned out; we secured a bulb at the desk and replaced it. The toilet would not flush without holding down the handle. One desk lamp had electrical tape wrapped around the cord and I wondered why. Paint was chipped and scarred here and there and the wallpaper in the bathroom (a high maintenance choice, wallpaper in a bathroom) was beginning to open at the seams. In short, the lack of maintenance, repair and remodel that had made the competition dowdy and vulnerable was working its egalitarian magic here.

Problems with STAFF: The host was helpful but impolitic. On learning that we were from the Portland area, he announced that, having lived there, he wouldn't go back. On learning that another couple were from Arkansas, he declared that his companion kept him away from her Arkansas relatives because he wouldn't tolerate their bigotry.

In sum we found O'dysius OK but overpriced.

Amazing, Awesome, Incredible, Wonderful, & everything else that you can think of!!  This place is a hidden luxurious hide away!  Again, passing through an area with a significant shortage of chain hotels, we took a chance....... & we couldn't have been happier!  Evening wine socials of hotel guests, beautiful ocean view rooms.  Ours was beautiful, cozy, & romantic with a comfortable soft bed, warm blankets & a fireplace.  Not your ordinary continental breakfast.... you have your choice of three options, all served with coffee or tea, and juice...... & delivered to your room at a time YOU request!  C'mon!  Seriously?  Yeah, I'm not kidding!  Staff is friendly, accommodating, & very professional.  If you find yourself in the area, check it out!

Amazing place with outstanding service! We stayed there last October and enjoyed out top floor room overlooking the ocean. All the rooms face the water with balconies and are nicely appointed. Ours had a fireplace, beautiful furniture and a cozy, intimate setting. The staff was more amazing. The manager is a trained sommelier, so at dusk daily, she has a complementary wine tasting for all guests with a great selection of wines. She was also very helpful in recommending great cuisine in the area. Relaxing, beautiful and reasonable rates, a must if you are in the area or passing through.
