This is our go-to spot for Pizza on the Peninsula. They could use a better beer selection, but most places could.
We get the Golden Greek with no sausage, add anchovies. So good!
Good thin crust, always cooked nicely. We like the outdoor seating, and can take the little guy there with us.
Anyone got any other good pizza spots on the Peninsula? Let me know!
Fun, unpretentious dive-y sports bar at the border of Palo Alto and Menlo Park. I used to come regularly to watch late season baseball games with my guy friends. The bbq chicken pizza and Philly cheesesteak sandwich are tasty... and if you're craving something a little healthier, the Asian chicken salad is yummy.
They have a good selection of beer on tap, and Widmer's cider available (tastes like juice! MMM). Overall its a laid back, chill place to hang out with friends.
I went here last Friday with a friend at about 7:30PM and it was packed. The crowd was diverse with people of all ages, races, etc., and had a good energy, except for the kid sitting next to us who kept throwing the table's buzzer all over the place. Funny at first, but the novelty of projectiles invading our airspace quickly wore off haha
Luckily we found a table right after ordering but had to wipe it down ourselves because it looked like the staff were too busy dealing with taking orders, etc. The place was rather messy in general, and kind of reminds me of Antonio's Nuthouse on Cal Ave in Palo Alto. Not a big deal to me, but if you don't like peanut shells strewn all over the ground and/or sticky tables, maybe not the place for you..
Anyway, I got the Oasis Deluxe cooked medium-rare for $7.45. The burger was cooked as I ordered it, and tasted pretty good. $7.45 is a little over priced IMO since I can get a pretty damn good burger from In-n-Out for a couple bucks less, but The Oasis provides an entirely different dining experience (TVs, bar, no drive through, etc.).
My friend got the Hot Pastrami for $6.85 and though I didn't take a bite, it looked tasty and she finished it rather quickly. Next time I find myself here I'll probably give that a try.
All-in-all I think there's a reason The Oasis remains such a popular burger joint after more than 50 years in business. The atmosphere is fun, the staff seem nice, and the food is good enough. Solid 3-stars because I've had much better, but if a friend wants to go here again I'll have no qualms about it.
Divey atmosphere with scrawlings in the wood - 30+ years of stanford students leaving their marks on the place. Great burgers and very affordable pitchers (I got Anchor Steam for $9.50.) Try their philly cheese steak or their BBQ bacon cheeseburger (made me feel a couple years older afterward.) I intend to come here more often now that my girlfriend works at Stanford, just a stone's throw away from this joint.
Good pizza. That's what I'll go back for. Burgers were OK, nothing spectacular. Place is very pricey. Staff doesn't seem very happy. Typical bar feel. We'll return.
This is a tasty dive pizza joint on the Stanford campus. The BBQ Chicken Pizza is not to be missed! Be sure to eat it with ranch sauce.
I love Oasis! It's such a great place to grab a burger and a beer. I didn't give the place 5 stars because the beer selection is rather pitiful for a 'beer garden' but other than that fact, this place is flawless. The food is great, the beer is cold, the atmosphere is just right.
You can bring your friends, your family, or your coworkers to Oasis. It's a very casual sports bar with a bunch of TVs playing whatever sports event is currently on. I also enjoy the Oasis' late hours. I never get hungry for dinner till 9 o'clock but that's no problem for Oasis.
While the food may be better than the Dutch Goose, the beer selection is not as great and I also prefer the atmosphere of the Goose to that of the Oasis. Nonetheless, I would HIGHLY recommend going to the Oasis.
This is my favorite drinking hole in Menlo Park! There's a bar to pull up a stool at, patio seating, round/rectangle tables in the center, and semi-closed off booths up against the walls.
It's a go to spot for me and some pals to relax, chill, talk biz, or just hide from it all! The addition of the flat panel TVs makes it, I guess, a sports bar?! The menu is simple & straight forward. My favorite is ths Oasis Burger Special w/ fries & a 22oz of Anchor Steam! They have variety of ice cold beers on tap and you can also catch the old timers drinking 40s of Coors. hahaha!
Bring a knife or a dremmel because it's ok to scratch your intials, your name, R+J, or Ronnie Was Here tags right into the dark wooden walls & furniture!!! Cheers!
"St. John's" takes "The Oasis" out back and holds it down while "in-and-out Burger" kicks its ass. 'nough said.
On first entering The Oasis I had real hopes for this place; It looks amazing and has tons of history. A real treat for the eyes.
There's no other way to put it though; the burgers were terrible and far too overpriced.
-1 Star: $7.00 for a small frozen Costco patty with a single slice of cheese.
-1 Star: Fries are extra. Extra limpy for free, though.
-1 Star: Soda from the tap fountain was flat and tasted funny.
You order your food from one register and then have to move over to another register at the bar to order any drinks (water, soda, beer, anything). At noon today they had one waitress working both registers and clearing tables.
Based on all the other reviews, this was a serious disappointment; definitely won't be going back.
Oasis is my go-to place for an after work drink and food. The burgers are nice and sloppy. The service is quick and courteous, with those little buzzing pagers, so you don't have to stand around and wait for your number to be called. A wonderful dive accessible from Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and Stanford.
I think I most like Oasis for its scene. There's something about the lacquered oak tables and private booths with messages of yesteryear carved in them that makes me feel like I'm sharing an experience with the past. How many brilliant start-up ideas were scratched on napkins at this bar? How many harebrained ones? Did some Stanford student figure out a cure for cancer after his eighth drink? And forget it after his ninth? What did JB think when she sat down and saw that FL had professed his love for her through a permanent scar on the wall? Does Kappa Sig really "suck"?
It's not the best food, and it's not the cheapest beer, but I love taking friends here and talking about life. The memories stay with me longer than the food.
Divy little place, fun, inexpensive, and the burgers are decent. Best for meeting friends after work for beers. You order at the counter, so friends who show up or leave late don't deal with odd bill situations, lots of TVs
Just like the Garret/Jakes/Boardwalk, Oasis is a great place for pizza, burgers/sandwiches or some beers after a game or to watch a game. The beer garden outside is a nice touch.
Parking can be a hassle depending on the time you go.
Decent place to hang and watch a game or whatnot. Can't go to wrong with the burgers, fries, pizza, sandwiches, etc. All pretty solid. TVs are adequate but not great. Beer prices are solid at $9-10 for a pitcher, but...
Here's the issue I have with this place: like an oasis in the desert, this Oasis has lots of water. Specifically, Budweiser, Coors Light, and H2O. For a place that calls itself a "beer garden," there's not a single interesting beer to be found. The best you can do is Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Not a single real "craft" tap besides Sierra Nevada and Anchor Steam. They have the standard imports: Guinness, Newcastle, Stella, etc. Is it too much to ask to get a few good crafts or more interesting imports on tap?
This is the location that introduced to the Oasis burger, awesome pizza, and other delicious menu items. I ended up finding their other locations in Willow Glen and Campbell (Jake's and the Garret) and the rest is history.
Seriously, this place has awesome food, beer, and a great overall sports bar vibe.
So for the all the Jake's or Garret lovers who move up to the Peninsula, head here to experience the the same great food that has been around for years.
An institution for Stanford students for years, the Oasis is probably the best burger and pizza joint in the South Bay/Peninsula area. When working in nearby Menlo Park, my colleagues and I would come to the Oasis every Friday for lunch. While afternoon productivity took a serious hit, as did, I'm sure, my long-term health, I always looked forward to these meals. I routinely order the Big Kahuna, a big ol' half-pound burger on a sandwich roll with all the fixings (including grilled onions) and your choice of cheese (Monterey Jack, for me please.) Although the regular fries are quite good, I usually opt for the curly fries, which might be the best I've ever had.
Because it takes a little while, we usually didn't have time to get the pizza. But on those occasions when we weren't in a hurry (or if we went after work), we'd get one of their awesome pies. Of their signature pizzas, the Gilroy Special and the Chicken Garlic are the best. In general, the pizzas are loaded with toppings and have substantial heft.
Not really a sports bar, per se, they do have a few flat screens that are always tuned into some game or sporting event. The interior is quite dark, with tables in the center of the dining area and several enclosed booth areas along the perimeter. These booths are great if you want to keep your conversation private. But, when the weather is nice, grab a spot outside.
Writing about The Oasis is making me hungry and I've just realized that it's been months since my last visit.
Probably go here once a week. Good food, enjoy the atmosphere, they will do take out even when they are busy...nice staff.
The burgers at Jeffery's are better, but definitely more of a selection here. One thing they are DEFINITELY missing is milk shakes...what kind of trendy dive-ish burger joint doesnt have milk shakes???
This place really is an oasis from the overpriced 'gourmet' Counter Burgers, chic asian fusion, and upscale steakhouses that seem to dominate in this area. The Oasis is what you would imagine a perfect college hangout to be- loud, dirty, well-worn and a lot of fun.
The food is very cheap, and delicious (although decidedly NOT gourmet). The patrons are groups of men and women in their 20's or 30's, not a bunch of college jocks looking to spill beer on you.
The only competition in the area would be the Dutch Goose.
I was introduced to this establishment by a coworker who is a stanford alumni. The decor is the typical dive college bar with a decent selection of drafts, dark and old tables/booths, and sports playing on the tvs.
By far the best burger here is the Old Timer w/everything. I believe "everything" is lettuce, tomatoes, relish, onions, and mustard(i usually add ketchup too). What makes the Old Timer special, are the tasty slices of PASTRAMI on top of the burger. But it only comes with potato chips so I usually add on curly fries. Accompany this with a pitcher of beer and it's the perfect guilty meal of the week.
I've also tried the pizza and salad here and they are good, but if you come here definitely get the Old Timer otherwise it will just be like any other burger establishment.
Great burgers!!!
This place is really an experience. All of the tables and walls are covered in carvings from years past, and presumably past generations of Stanford students. The carvings are entertaining to read; I mean where else can you eat a burger with the word "VAGINA" carved in bold letters above your left shoulder.
The burgers here are so tasty, even though I'm sure they're terrible for your health. I've also heard very good things about the BBQ chicken pizza here, and I fully intend to take it for a test drive on my next visit.
Please, don't ever close!!!
I've been coming here since I was a child. And, I hope to bring my kids here someday.
It seems as though this will always be a central place to bring everyone together. You go away to college and come home. Where do you meet? The O. It's a perfect spot. You can eat a burger or some pizza, have some beer, then if you want you can make your way to downtown Palo Alto from there if you want to continue your evening... Or, you can stay there and be perfectly content to keep drinking your beers and eating peanuts.
And, if you are a Menlo Park local/native and you go in there, guaranteed you'll see someone you know if you are in there long enough.
Low-key. Food & beer is what you would expect from this old-school Stanford sports institution. Sports bar/grill all the way. Imagine a tailgate party that grew in the amount of people and had to be shipped inside. This is what would happen. And, that is the feel of the place.
I love it, and I feel so cozy whenever I'm there!
This place is pretty awesome. In Silicon Valley it kind of sticks out, because it is trying to be a dive bar, but you can't rightly be a dive bar and be opposite the Tesla electric car showroom. Sorry, but that's a contradiction in terms.
Anyodd, this is a pretty good bar, but beyond that it is a REALLY good burger place. All the food is decently priced, and they have a good selection of beers to go with.
TVs on the walls, there's always a sport game on that you can watch with your burger and beer. That's man heaven right there.
This place was a fun hang out to drink beers and watch the Giants game. The patio seating was nice, especially since it was a warm night. We ordered a BBQ chicken pizza. It was pretty good, although not the best I've had. It had too many onions on it. Other than that, it was a fun atmosphere, the people working there seemed to like their job. Overall, if I was in the area again, I'd come back and try something else on the menu, like maybe a burger and fries.
This will be short and sweet:
1. AWESOME wings- ask for extra hot...it makes em' extra good! :o)
2. Pretty good pizza; not my favorite but definitely a worthy slice.
3. Friendly staff and great "feel"- it's kind of a bar/hang out/dive and it's just fun.
This is a place we FREQUENT because it's right across the street from where I work. Great for a quick lunch or for drinks after work. Definitely worth checking out!
The moment I step into this Oasis I knew it's owned by the same people who run Little Jake's. They have essentially the same pizza and burgers you can find in Little Jake's. Even the board with the menu looks the same as Little Jake's.
It may be somewhat unfair, but after Little Jake's this just isn't a new experience any more. The fact remains though those are good pizzas and burgers, so good I think I won't be going back any time soon or risk getting a beer belly the size of their large Gilroy Special, or even the size of Bush's budget deficit.
The beer collection wasn't huge but there are enough decent brands for not-so-special occasions. We went there over lunch to celebrate my friend Lauren's passing of the qualifier, and it was fun enough while we were there. They have good fries and onion rings, also. The place does feel like a dungeon sometimes because of the poor lighting, but I'm willing to sacrifice some pleasure for style. Yes, a dive bar has a style too.
Honey lady took me to this place one evening while drivings down the El.
It's small from the out side, but opens up once you go inside. The seating is a little cramped but there are booths, which seem to help. This place has been here awhile. You can find some intestine stuff to read craved all around.
The food is ok, I had some BBQ wings last time. I'd prefer if they cooked them IN the sauce and not just pour it on after. The burgers are good though, and there seasoned curly fries are the bomb!
One of two spots to go in PA when you want some good bar food. (Other place is Dutch Goose on Alameda de las Pulgas)
This spot has some of the best burgers in the peninsula.
Oasis deluxe is what I usually get. Either that or a turkey burger to pretend like I'm being healthy. (Not doing a good job on that one since I look the same as my current pic)
The pizza is good too. Not amazing but solid. BBQ chicken wings if you like wings with sauce. Some people aren't into the sauce.
Good beer on tap. Always a good place to go and hang out with friends.
Pretty interesting crowd because you see a lot of Palo Alto locals come out. You get an extremely diverse crowd ranging from Stanford kids trying to avoid dorm food all the way to old grandmas hanging out with grandkids. It's a trip.
The Oasis Beer Garden is not the Dutch Goose...
It does not have the best deviled eggs ever...
It is not an easy 1 mile drive from my house...
It is not the place to always find tons of people I know (though I will likely still find a few)...
It does not always have easy parking...
BUT, it's still one of the best dive/beer bars in the area. I guess I can forgive it for not being the Goose... there can only be one Goose!
My co-workers wanted to go to Arby's for lunch - when we couldn't find it on El Camino, we decided to stop by here on a recommendation.
The parking goes all over the place once you get passes the entrance, but it's plentiful enough.
The line during lunch is long and screams "tasty food is served" here.
The burger was good - it clearly tastes like it's their signature item. Flavorful, juicy and plentiful.
There's outdoor seating for nice days, and a large interior in the bar.
I'll definitely stop by again. What I need to figure out is why they wanted to go to Arby's instead of here in the first place??
The only thing my boyfriend and I get when we eat here is the Old Timer. We split one because it's pretty big and we also get a side order of curly fries.
The burger comes with a beef patty, deep fried pastrami, tomatoes, lettuce, mustard, and relish (am I missing something?).
We always eat in the outdoor area in the back because it's usually sunny and the whether is nice. I don't think we'll ever stop coming here.
I still love their hot wings here. And their burgers are still damn good.
BUT i just had their BBQ Chicken Wings again and I gotta say these are the best BBQ wings I have had, EVER, PERIOD, that's it (not even you Domino's can stack up to the Oasis offering).

I have been eating at the O for close to 30 years...just the other day I took my family and we went for a drive to get the kind of greasy and fantastic burger that only comes from a whole in the wall like the O.
The fries and onion rings are solid as well as there pizza and all that stuff.
But the O burger is the best there is...period!
I love The O. It's been a couple years since I've been here but I don't think much has changed.
My buddy Hogan used to live nearby and we hit this place about once a week. Great pizza-crisp crust but still heavy on the toppings. Never really strayed from the pizza so I can't comment on burgers.
Beer selection is good, used to have hot girls pouring which never hurts. I also remember them selling 40s which is always a fun way to drink!
Went there today to cheer on the German team in the Euro '08 semifinals with the local German community. Yeah, they made it to the finals!
But I digress... I was floored when the guy behind the counter told me that my order would be delayed by up to 12 minutes (!) because the kitchen was backed up with other orders. I almost fell off my bar stool. I haven't had anyone manage my expectations in a restaurant in a loooong time. Usually, they just have you sit there and stew and defensively ask you to cut them slack because the cook just quit or is new or because they are unusually busy, extra sun spots, or whatever.

Great atmosphere if you like pubs / dive bars. Great burgers (expensive though - $7 plus add some for fries and a drink - a typical lunch will cost me $12) and pretty good beer choices. Parking is limited, the place is a little tough to find (its behind a glass company) and the line gets pretty long at lunch time. But still worth it if you are in the mood. The crowd was on the older side at the times that I was there.
I have had a few of the burger specials, the cheese steak sandwich, and the pizza. Some friends from work go there on a regular basis and I will continue to go with them.
do you have any suppressed hostility towards other, but still on your right mind knowing that making an assault or attack to a person will sent your arse to the brig???
OR
are you just frustrated about your work, family, friends or EVEN the lousy cheeseburger and cheese steak you ordered here???
if so....this is the place to be!
you are FREE to engrave OR etch with your swiss knife or anything sharp you have in your pocket or purse of WORDS or NAMES your "black heart" is shouting of anger, anxiety and dissatisfaction on the beams and inside the booths, though you are not allowed to carve on the tables.
so i had a nasty simple cheeseburger at this nook and he had the worst cheese steak!
the bun was doughy and the patty was bland...and yeah, you'll get a handful of potato chips instead of french fries. so i ordered a side of onion rings.
the onion rings ALSO had a doughy batter!
steak was unsavory, lifeless indeed. the "no fee" french fries that went with it was poor to fair. we smothered it with pepper, salt and ketchup to the max, which surprisingly was delish!
i wasn't impress with the food and the atmosphere.
i thought this place was a pleasant change from what is usual or ordinary, but it was the opposite.
i wished i had a pocket knife to carve the words: this place sucks!
I absolutely love this place. The pizza is delicious--especially the Gilroy Special. Mmm, just saying the name is making my mouth water. The ambiance inside is sort of old-school Ivy League hidey-hole, which brings back very warm memories for me. Highly recommended.
We come here after our softball games whether we win or lose. It's a chill place to sit back and relax and share a pitcher of beer and chow down on some great pizza. Also love snacking on the peanuts and throwing the shells on the floor. It's your typical dive bar that serves a wide range of food including pizza, burgers and fries, sandwiches and hot wings. Looking forward to spending some cool summer evenings on the patio.
Looking for a local burger joint? This place is better then Jefferey's per price and per pound!
Very casual and I like the tables out back where you sit next to anyone.
I've often thought what would happen if I wrote a screenplay where the main character was a semi-dive restaurant and bar.
Fade In
Int- A Semi-Dive Restaurant and Bar
That's as far as I've ever gotten, but the place I was thinking of was The Oasis.
Every group of friends goes through phases where they have favourite places to gather, typically to eat. The Oasis was one group of my friends' favourite place for about three years. We'd go, order a pizza, drink some beer and then head off to whatever plan we were workign on. And while it was good, especially the pizzas, I never grew attached and when we stopped going, it wasn't like I'd just ripped a Band-Aid off and was going to have to deal with the sting. It just sorta floated away...
The place does some OK food, is filled with folks on busy night and can lead to quite a wait. The Burgers are OK. I'd say they were a step below a place like Clarke's but they're still pretty tasty. And they're just the right kind of greasy. The fries are good too. The onion rings are delightful.
The place sorta rocks back adn forth with kids from Stanford, from the various high schools, and regular families. There's pinball, which is a place.
But at no poitn do I ever feel like this is a place I'd come to if it weren't brought up to me. It's just the kind of place that my friends would say "Hey, let's hit the Oasis" and I'd be like "Sure", with no reservations about going, but it also wouldn't have hit me to ever suggest it.
