My room looked out over Rockefeller Centers Tree lighting ceremony. What more can I say?

Well, here goes anyway: The food and room service is to die for. I booked a suite, and a room, just cause I had friends joining me, and let me tell you, the suite was much bigger then the average sized apartment in that town. The service, I felt like a princess, and I should have for this kind of money, but with that said, most places that charge that much forget about treating you like a princess after they have your bookings. Which this place doesn't.

The spa was a wonderful experience as well, and I wish I was there now having Martha give me that nice facial......Aaaaaw, Christmas in NY was divine this past season, as it will be next Christmas, because this is where I intend to stay from now on.....

Oh, and the hotel was dressed to the nines in Christmas trees and the spirit. I'm just a nice reformed Jewish/English girl who loves Christmas, what do you want? He?

So, if you can get by the prices, you will be charmed with this wonderful place.

My family (5 ladies) have weekend city trips and we spend the weekend shopping, eating and each time we go we stay at a different hotel.

The palace is more beautiful outside and in the lobby then the actual rooms.  I remembered thinking how grand the rooms must be from the architecture of the building but stepping into the room I was a little shocked to see how simple it was.  Nothing bad but for the plaza I expected more.

The #1 reason to go to the plaza is their Sunday brunch.  I have never had a better brunch anywhere.  Yes you certainly pay the price for the taste but it is worth every penny!

I had a very unsatisfying experience tonight at the Palace Hotel.  I arrived at midnight coming off a redeye, and the person who greeted me at reception tried to get me to sign off on a rate that was 3x what I actually booked.  I pressed him on this three times (this can't be correct - right?), and he insisted that that was my rate.  Then I asked to speak to a manager, which took about 15 minutes since he was dealing with another unhappy customer.  Then he made me dig out my booked price and reservation # (which they didn't have in their system), and voila: 25 minutes later, I had my correct price.  I won't be coming back here.

When walking into the hotel, if you don't look straight up, it's pretty charming looking.  Look up too far and you are reminded you're in midtown.

The room I was in had a view of St. Patrick's Cathedral which was nice.  This is definitely not a modern, trendy hotel, more like the Fairmont but with better TV's.  The bedding and bath products were perfectly nice and sometimes you can sneak into the executive lounge and hang out there for hours.  I mean, that's what I heard.

Stayed here recently over the Halloween weekend and found myself pleasantly surprised :)

It's not the kind of place I would ever think to book, because I picture it being terribly pretentious, filled with old folks and business types, and the kind of place where I constantly have to use my "inside voice" and would feel bad about stumbling into, if I should ever have one too many cocktails. Basically, I thought it was a no fun zone and luckily I found myself here and learned I was wrong.

Right from the get go, the door man who opens the car door and swoops the luggage away is a delight. He really seems to be enjoying himself and to be in an "I Love NY" frame of mind. The check in staff are equally friendly. All around if there's a person who works at the hotel and they hear your name once, they will remember it and always greet you with a smile and upbeat attitude :) The people staying at the hotel were also quite nice, opposed to what I was expecting. *yay*

The rooms are nice.. tho the traditional was a teensy bit boring, but I'm kind of used to more trendy hotels so it's probably not that bad. I stayed in the traditional(tower rooms) for the first part of the trip. The beds were extremely comfy and there are a gagillion pillows to use or not use. Turn down service usually leaves two on the bed and makes a neat pile with the remainder. For the second part of my stay there, I was in a contemporary junior suite(tower section again). It was certainly more modern and pretty large. With a living room area, huge double sink bathroom, and separate sleeping quarters. We didn't want to leave lol!

Room service was super fast and tasty. The house car is a Maybach, with a very personable and knowledgeable driver. Such a nice change from hoping into a taxi, giving a destination and having the idiot driver ask me for directions. There's also free wifi if for some reason you find yourself sitting in your hotel room bored. Service and accommodations from beginning to end were stellar and this is now one of my NYC faves!

The executive rooms are the real deal; reminiscent of concierge level that you have at a Marriott with it's separate lounge, save the fact the one here, is nice.

And with a great view.
And keeps rolling out the treats from dawn until sunset.

The beds are nice, firm, and allow for sleeping, and for a NY hotel, the place is quiet.

For a NY hotel the staff is exceedingly nice and gracious while still being true pros.

A hearty recommendation.

My homegirl used to work here, so I spent quite a bit of time in this hotel. It has everything you would ever want in a hotel. The restaurant is amazing, the bar is classy and fun, the staff is beyond hospitable and professional and the rooms are absolutely perfect.

If you ever need some place to hold an event, I suggest this place hands down. They put 100% into all that they do, and their parties are immaculate. Your clients, friends, family or whoever will be very impressed.

Oh man and the sheets! The sheets are the best thing about this hotel. They are the most amazing sheets in the world. I want to swim around in them forever and then swim around in them some more.

Whether you are looking for an event locale, a weekend getaway or a place to stay in the city that's close to shopping, restaurants and more bars, the Palace will hook you up. If you are a baller and need a place to live while you are filming a movie or write a screenplay, then this is where you go. if you are a president of a country and you are in town for very important NYC biz, then you stay here. If you're me, you dream of living here. Ohhhhh the sheets....

We love the Palace.  We stay every year for my wife's birthday (which happens to be New Year's Eve) and were only disappointed once.  Despite going on NYE, we routinely get upgraded to a larger room without asking.  The Palace is certainly not cheap, but a better bargain than the other top hotels in NYC.

Last year was the only year with a problem.  Our room was not ready until 6PM, so we waited in the executive lounge (which is lovely) for three hours since from 3 on we were told it was only a 30 minute wait, every 30 minutes.  That was frustrating, but these things happen.

Make sure to get a room overlooking St. Patrick's and Madison avenue.  Corner rooms are huge (esp by NYC standards).  Ask for one at the desk and you might get upgraded.

Five star hotel that mainly serves the business corporate clientele rather than families and children in the heart of Manhattan's wealthiest district.  The staff is indeed beyond hospitable and professional as constant vigilance is well noted to serve clients needs above and beyond the call of duty.  The rooms are superb and very clean, fully stocked with all amenities and drinks.  There is a grand piano playing in the evenings to senerade guests upon entering the lobby.   There is an ample supply of pens and note pads for taking notes upon entering the lobby and phones to contact guests when visitors engage in a meeting.  The coordinators are beautiful.

This hotel hosts elaborate functions in their venues which can really put on a show for black tie affairs as well as "jacket and tie" events.

super over extravagant and tacky hotel. I was here doing some magic business with clients and for toy fair. Ok ok, I never stayed here, but used their meeting facilities, ate lunch here, and met with clients in their hospitality suite. Tacky, way overdone, but...nicer than the Waldorf, more updated than the Carlyle and almost more fun than The Pierre and definitely more lush and laid back than the Four Seasons.

There is a time and a place to love kitsch, and that time is when you step into the Palace with its marble columns and gold leafed detailing, the over the effing top staircase and the overstaffed concierge (who are my peeps btw.

Love it! Hint: This is where Mattel has holed up for toy fair this year, so if you want to pitch your new toy to them, this is the hotel to stalk ;)

Old skool opulence and elegance.  I kinda felt like I was staying in a palace.  The entryway is breathe taking.  The service is impeccable.  We stayed in one of the tower suites.  The view was ridiculous.. it made me swoon.  Our room was gi-normous.  The bed may have been the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in (minus the bed @ the Far Eastern Hotel in Taipei).

I felt very cozy at this hotel.  Our room had a fruit basket waiting (grapes, cherries, lychee.. yum) and chocolates!

It was hella expensive. But I didn't have to pay;) The Palace made my stay in NYC that much better.

Despite that this week it was announced that the Palace Hotel went "to the dogs" in the will of Leona, last weekend we were made to feel as though we were top dogs. The hotel was beautiful, turn down service was great, fitness center- super.  Only two things could have been better. To charge for internet connection in a room that is $400 each night is a bit strange, and offering coffee service only until 6 30 am is interesting. why not 7 or later.  I guess the early bird gets the worm.  And this hotel still gets a 5 in my book.

Okay, full disclosure: I've never stayed here.  But I did visit.

While looking for good hot chocolate, a friend (who has stayed there numerous times and loves it) suggested we try the Palace.  The restaurant didn't look like the kind of place you'd visit just for hot cocoa.  So we asked the front desk for a recommendation on where to get some.  He explained that they were giving out free hot cocoa and cookies in the lobby and that we should take some.  We explained that we weren't guests and were happy to buy some if they had a cafe.  He insisted we have the free stuff.

The hot cocoa was good.  The cookies wouldn't have been disappointing had we paid, but for free they were quite tasty!

So for friendliness to everyone--even random folks off the street--the Palace gets my vote.

The staff here are so FRIENDLY and willing to the extra mile to make your stay perfect.

It has that old world charm with a bit of an updated look. I love the courtyard. I just picture royalty pulling up in a chariot of horses with trumpets and etc. It's just simply a beautiful setting.

I can't think of the restaurant but it has a smidge of a modern flare with the classic wood trim and feel to it all, very nice and romantic.

We took the ride up into the towers, the VIP side of the hotel, and we discovered the club floor. Tons of food everywhere and sweeping views of the city. There are people here to assist you with business services and general to do's as well.

To the room, quite large for NY along with the bathroom. The linen was crisp and the room was minimal in furniture, which I appreciated.

Highly recommended, if you've got a couple of extra bills.

I usually favor the modern and trendier hotels rather than the fancy, "old-world", European, elegant, luxurious kind; BUT the exterior architecture is gorgeous and was even better when I stepped inside.  I must say I was very, very impressed with the beautiful and elegant interior, lobby, grand staircase, and the very professional check-in staff member (considering it was 4 a.m., he was very friendly).  I had booked a room for 2 adults and 2 children (we really had 4 adults), but when the check-in staff clearly saw we had "lied", they didn't bother to charge us the extra adult persons fee.  We also had requested a Deluxe Double room, but they had given us a room with one King bed instead.  We asked if there were any rooms with double beds available and he kindly upgraded us (complimentary!) to a room with 2 double beds in the Towers (slightly bigger rooms than the Deluxe and located on higher floors [41st-54th] with exclusive access to super fast elevators and personal concierge).

Our rate included complimentary breakfast for two during our stay, where we had the choice of eating in the Madison Room (located on the lobby floor) or having it brought in by room service.  We ordered the American Breakfast and it was hands down, the most delicious and best breakfast I have ever tasted in my life!  Waking up to the Chrysler Building on the 51st floor and having breakfast to a view is seriously amazing.  Our room was pretty big (465 sq. ft.) compared to what's the "norm" in NYC and fairly new (rooms are located in a modern building, not in the Villard Mansion).  The Tower rooms are either in traditional or contemporary decor.  Our room was contemporary and although it was decorated very simply, it was comfortable, inviting, and warm.  The beds were super comfortable; and the micro-fiber slippers and robes were so amazingly plush and comfortable.

Great location, very close to Park & 5th (where the shopping is).  Customer service is SUPERB.  The day we left, I wanted to go down the grand staircase through the main entrance to meet my family, but I couldn't carry our luggage myself.  One of the employees in a suit saw I was having trouble and asked if I need helped.  I insisted I didn't, but she immediately called over 2 men to bring our luggage down the staircase and out through the main entrance to the courtyard.  If that's not great customer service, hell, I must have been mistaken for Lucy Liu.

During my stay here, I also learned the popular CW television show "Gossip Girl" occasionally films in the hotel, which I thought was super cool 'cause I'm a big "GG" fan.  There is also complimentary access to their 7,000 sq. ft. gym and Wi-Fi.  I was very, very pleased with my stay here and without doubt, I would *definitely* stay here again!

My wife and I stayed here over the weekend, and the hotel was great.  Yes, it was pricey, especially for a corner room, but, it wasn't out of the ordinary for the location or New York.

The concierge was very helpful -- they helped us find dinner both nights we were there in the city, arranged to take us to a theater, and even called ahead to make reservations for us.

The gym at the place over looks St. Patrick's Cathedral, so it was a very cool was to workout.  Also, all of their machines have LCD screens on them with cable, so you can watch your own personal show.  They also give you free fruit and one free drink (juice, etc) of your choice per visit.

We ate at Gilt one night, and the food here was great.

Come to the Palace Hotel for their sizeable rooms and if you like traditional/elegant.  The staff was overall very friendly and it is centrally located in Mid-town.

My only complaint was that my sinuses were going nuts with stuffy recirculated air.

All in all, not the typical "modern" hotel that I would stay at, but for NYC, you have to appreciate the size and overall quality of the staff.

I really don't like midtown unless I'm shopping, but I made an exception for this place. The service was flawless. The tower suites have GORGEOUS night views of the city. Huge, beautiful bathrooms and supercomfy rooms. Also big walk in closets and dressing area. The big complimentary bottle of water and chocolates were a nice touch for the hangover I was nursing during check-in. The entire hotel is just beautiful and everyone from the front desk to the concierge to the superfriendly  bellmen made the time I spent there a real pleasure. Now I just wish they'd get rid of all of the tacky tourists hovering around the lobby.

I swear someone has access to delete my reviews because I swore I made one for the Palace over a yr ago. Anyhow, one of my favorite hotels in Manhattan! Great location. Elegant antique feel yet new look and clean. Service is excellent. Drivers are great and quick with valet (if you leave your car there). Suites are breathtaking with some great views (depending on which side of the hotel you're on). The bar downstairs, Gilt, is fun to grab a drink and has good music. I can't think of one negative thought about the NY Palace.

Beautiful hotel! Both classic and contemporary decor in the tower section. The lobby is gorgeous and the courtyard is outstanding.  They have one of the largest fitness rooms I have ever seen and it overlooks the St. patricks Cathedral. I think by far the best hotel I have stayed at in NYC.  Their doormen and bellmen do excellent work. Customer service is outstanding.  I really do not have any bad things to say about this hotel.  They have large closet spaces, beautiful views from the rooms, and excellent bathrooms.  Just a fabulous hotel and old world. I would definitely do it again.  Architecture was beautiful and it was in a very convenient location.

Stayed here because the wedding we were attending was recommending it.  Our price was $350 (with tax about $400) so that was a pretty good price. . .for NYC I mean. . .but I saw specials on their website that compared.  It was a perfect place!  Rooms were lovely and service exceptional.  Extremely quiet, no banging doors or people talking in halls, we heard not a peep once we got to our room.  The chocolate on the bed was a nice touch, as were the slippers and robe.  Location is fantastic, you are near the shopping of 5th ave, Rockefeller center where the wedding was, times square is a fairly short walk away and the subway is nearby too.  The $7 sprite in the restaurant was a bit steep, but I guess that is NYC for you.  We did enjoy the dessert we had there and while on vacation, why not splurge?  We'll definitely be back.

okay, the only reason this hotell is not getting five stars are minor ones but they are just the reason some hotels should be five and not four.  the palace is just that...its really beautiful. my family got a really good rate on expedia as a summer sale. we stayed three nights. the rooms are traditional in decor and were very clean. i mean i am picky and dont like any dirt and am grossed out by many things. this hotel was fabulous and housekeeping must be doing something right. linens were luxurious and baths were marble. room size is average hotel size. as a family we needed to get two rooms so it was a bit of a splurge and well worth it. lobby is really nice and restaurants are very special if you're into hotel food. the hotel is blessed with an outside sitting area which serves wine etc in the evening. we got bagels nearby and ate them on this patio/courtyard.  it really wasnt used by many people at all which was surprising. the subway is close and visitors should use it.  using  a cab is just too pricey for a family and when you are coming and going it pays to get the all day pass in NY and hop on and hop off. there's a french wine bar/bistro nearby which was nice. Le Bateau on 51st, essa a bagel a bit further for breakfast on 3rd ave.  the staff at the palace was great and anyone visiting ny should try to stay here. love love love it.

This hotel reminds me of New Jersey or maybe Chinatown - it's tacky - with lots of gilt, mixed stone, intricately detailed granite and marble floors. It's generally overdone, and not in a tasteful way. They also charge $16 for 24 hours of Internet, which I think is ridiculous given that this hotel is in midtown and caters to business travelers. It's perfectly comfortable and clean, but lacks something....the Benjamin is a lot nicer and comparably priced..

We stayed at the Palace recently between Christmas and New Year's.  Its Mid-town location is excellent and puts you right in the middle of the action, just a couple blocks from 30 Rock, close to shopping on Fifth Ave. and walking distance from Times Square.  The hotel itself has an impressive main entrance on Madison Avenue, although most of the arrivals and departures have been shifted to a more practical (and much less impressive) entrance on 50th St.  Our basic guestroom was large by New York standards.  The bathroom was a nice size and nicely appointed.  We stayed in the older "main house" section, which was fine, but I understand the "Towers" section is newer and somewhat nicer.  Clearly they make efforts at a five star experience, but consistency issues plague the service level a bit.  Also, we pre-paid our rooms from an internet wholesaler, so we got a reasonably good rate.  I probably wouldn't stay here if I had to pay their "rack rate" in the $800-900 a night range. Overall, it was a good experience and would stay here again if I could get a rate in the $400/night range again.

After visiting a friend staying here, I decided to book my next trip to the city at the Palace.  Upon arrival my reservation dropped out of the system.  Thankfully, I had a printout of my confirmation.  The front desk attendant rectified the situation by offering me a fabulous corner suite - 1 bdr., kitchen, dining room, living room and 2 bathroom - STUNNING.  Overlooking 5th Ave and the worlds best shopping!

Later that night, I received a note during turn down that complimentary breakfast or dinner room service had been extended, along with some fresh fruit and nuts.  I invited some girlfriends over and we had a ball.

From the time you arrive everything is done with such care and sophistication.  Very attentive staff.

Sure there are TONS of places to stay in NYC, but I only stay at the Palace and have done so for the past 3 years and will continue to do so.  I don't always stay in the suites, but the regular rooms are very spacious and well appointed.

"Ohh la la. I've been here on more than several occasions and never leave unpleased. The service is excellent, with friendly cheery bellman, and desk clerks. The food is delicious. The rooms are all clean, and full of white fluffy bedding. The spa is small but luxurious. I had the best massage when I came here. I look forward to staying there again."

I absolutely love this place (and so does everyone else I know)! I spent 3 months in NY living out of various hotels and this is by far the best one! The rooms are big and beautiful and the service is great. I would only mention two downsides...1) the service is almost too attentive, as I stayed in one day because I was sick and they came by about 5 times during the day even when I had a do not diturb sign up...and 2) they dont give you any frequent traveller points.

Fancy pantsy.  A very elegant hotel with a pretty price to match.  Expect total professionalism.
