I don't understand why I have visited this place more than 4 times.
Is that because I can get taller than my American buddies, for a few minutes?
Evert time I visit here, I carefully observe every situation but I cannot solve what causes the height changes.
Especially when I was asked to stand on the left side of the board, a friend of mine on the right side, he was much taller than I was but when we switched the places, I was actually looking down at him and could see the top of his head well.
If you have any doubts, you must try standing on the board.
This is not a fake attraction.
Last weekend, I flew down to SF for some down time and Santa Cruz on my list of places to visit. My cousin heard about this place from a friend, so we decided to head here to see what the buzz was all about. The drive here was more interesting than the actual attraction to me. The road entering The Mystery Spot is one lane and a bit bumpy.
The Mystery Spot is a fairly cheap place to visit at $5 per person plus $5 for parking. I think they have tours every half hour or so. The attraction itself was dull. You are brought around by a guide who tells you the story of the place. But if you thought about the place practically, you would kind of feel foolish that you spent your money on this place.
The attraction is the oddity of way things are perceived physically which comes off as an one trick pony. It is certainly a curious place to visit, but you would be better off visiting the Boardwalk. This place was just not for me unfortunately.
We came here on a Wednesday morning at 10:30am, so we had no problem with lines or anything. $5 per person and an additional $5 for parking is a small price, it probably costs more in gas to get there.
The spot itself is like nothing else I've ever seen. It's not cheap tricks that can be easily explained, it really is a mystery and left me with a feeling I haven't had since I was a little kid: wonder.
I wonder how the ball seems to roll up the ramp. I wonder why I'm shorter on that side than the other. I wonder why the trees are all bent in different directions. I wonder why the ball swings one way on some days and another one on others. I wonder...
My son and I took a quick trip to the Mystery Spot since he had never been there. You can't expect too much for $5, however it is still fun and a bit mind bending, particularly when you have read the 'how they do it' on the web.
This is a good cheap date spot. Like others have said, its $5 a person, and $5 for parking, which they really don't even check since you have to go inside and pay for parking.
The gift shop is cool and has a lot of stuff to look at, however they are very pricey. And surprisingly the woman's bathroom was fairly clean and well stocked. However my boyfriend said the mens wasn't so nice and apparenlty people don't know how to aim in there!
One thing to note is to please wear comfortable walking shoes. I had no idea that steep climbing would be involved in this activity or I would have worn my sneakers instead of my strappy sandels! I wasn't so comfortable on the tour because of that!
Boyfriend took me here for my birthday. We travelled almost 2 hours for a 1 hour tour. I don't know if that's a good thing but this place is very interesting. However, I did get dizzy when we got to the "center." Some say it's due to a magnetic field. Whatever was happening, it was very weird. I wasn't hungry, tired or any reason to feel dizzy. Our tourguide was informative but had corny jokes. The price is pretty cheap but there is a parking fee. Nevertheless, it's a good place for families and tourists to enjoy. It's one a California's tourist spot so you have to visit at least once.
This place is located in the woods so you'll lose cell phone service. One of the perks is that you get a sticker at the end of the tour and who doesn't love stickers?
Make easy reservations online. If the phone line is busy, try back every 5 min or so :P
Not gonna lie... I got an insta headache when we got to the crooked cabin. It was sort of like motion sickness with a little ....wtf-this-is-not-right sickness.. kinda ruined the experience. The kids and the really annoying 3 stooges (soo effing annoying...these 3 guys...grown ass men acting a fool and being rude) had a blast, tho. Guess it's a fun thing with the family or tourists...
During our tour, the tour guide tried to convince us thru corny jokes that our $6 was well invested... but all I was thinking was...man, could've gotten garlic fries and a beer at the Boardwalk with that money. Now THATS buyers remorse.
Fail
I recommend everyone to visit this place at least once in their lifetime.
$5 admission - not bad.
$5 parking- You pay inside after you park; they don't even see your car or check which one is your car. Can totally lie and say that someone dropped you off. Haha.
Tour - The tour guide was friendly but kinda creepy. Like he reminded me of a happy creepy clown but outside of his job, he could be a really mean and bitter person. I saw times when he seemed really annoyed of the foreign tourists on our tour.
I wish the tour guide did not have to rush the the tour. Like cmon, the tour was so short and they probably make a lot of profit, given that there is not much to pay for. He spoke pretty fast and it was hard to comprehend his explanations about the mystery and before you know it, we had to move on to the next mystery. Not enough time to take pics. =|
I want to go back one more time just to hear their explanations one more time.
The biggest mystery in this spot is whether or not our tour guide, MATTHEW, was 18-years-old or not. My friend and I had a crush on him.
AGE AINT NOTHIN BUT A NUMBER!
I still don't know how the navigation system actually got us to the mystery spot, but i guess it's not such a crazy mystery afterall.
The tour was decently interesting...even without all the contrived jokes, the disinterested guide, and the free bumper sticker.
Once the tour was finished, the three star rating i was about to give it was down to two stars.
In the end, it was interesting, but not interesting enough to drive back out there to entertain my friends or myself.
Now the only mystery is "why is the mystery spot so popular?"
My 4-year-old put it this way: "Mommy, it's all bendy in here!"
This is a true California gem. Go!!
I'm not sure how I feel about this place.
My boyfriend and I went here on a whim one day because we had nothing to do. it was between The Mystery Spot and The Winchester Mystery House and based on rates, we decided to do The Mystery Spot. The tour was only $6 each person and parking was $5 per car, so we figured that wasn't too bad and made the trip from San Francisco to where ever this is located (it is a mystery after all....I know: bad joke).
We had no idea we had to make a reservation for a tour, so when we arrived, to our disappointment, we realized the next tour was in a hour and a half. We did, however, drive to nearby downtown Santa Cruz to walk around, which was a great way to kill time.
When we went back for our tour, I realized one thing: The Mystery Spot is run entirely by teenagers. With that being said, this is where my confusion about what to think about this spot begins.
I feel like this is one big hoax that they make you believe is actually happening. I would rather not give away all the details of the Mystery Spot tour, because some of the demonstrations are pretty mind boggling and unexplainable. I do, however, feel that the tour guides really push the idea that this is a mystery and that it is a weird place. They push on you how you will feel about certain things. That is why I am confused about how I feel.
It is without question that the mystery spot is crazy and should be seen, but I don't know if I feel that way because they brainwashed me to feel that way or because I actually fell that way. Either way, it's worth experiencing once in your life. The price is right and you even get that cool Mystery Spot bumper sticker upon completing the tour!
You need to go at least once. For 5 bucks it is a good deal (unless of course it is one of their busy days, and they charge you an extra dollar per person to show up). Oh yeah, 5 bucks for parking. But, if you come from SF or Oakland or in the nearby area, it's worth at least going ONCE. It's not about the actual attraction, it's about the drive up. My suggestion, stop by, check it out, and then have a picnic (or the other way around).
There's a trick to this place, and it's not an optical illusion. It has nothing to do with crackpot theories. Google it, I'm sure someone has a pretty detailed analysis of the hubbub of this mystery spot, but google after going. Take pictures, and maybe bring a barf bag because that slanted cabin will make you want to puke.
Overall, it's a 3/5. It's A-OK, really, it is A-OK. Make the trip, but find some other stuff to do while you're in Santa Cruz. :)
You now have to make reservation ahead of time, especially on weekend. Call ahead and book your tickets ($6). The tour isnt very long but the tour guides do make it interesting and you'll have something to think about for a few weeks. Pay very close attention to the directions or you can get very lost in the Santa Cruz woods.
You can head down to the Beach boardwalk after. Its close
Tours are $5 per person & parking is about the same per car.
A tour guide walks with you around the mystery spot and shows you how mysterious this place is. He would bring a level stick? What is that called? With the level stick, he'll show you that each place or wooden board is leveled by looking at the liquid in the middle of the stick. The first place you go to on the tour is a perfectly leveled platform. He would pick people of similar height and on one side one person would be significantly shorter and the other would be significantly taller. WEIRD? VERY. Several places that he took us were like that. One of my favorites was the lopsided house building looking thing with the ball on the side. Hold on, it's crooked and fun. That part was my favorite place to take pictures. Remember to bring a camera!!!! At the very end, you get a Mystery Spot bumper sticker. Remember to put it on your car, so the value will go down. That's what the tour guide told us :]
I wouldn't come here all the time, but it's relatively cheap and a touristy attraction, I guess...
If I lived closer, I would bring people from out of town here.
Ooooh, woooo, so mysterious. Everyone having fun, except one loud know-it-all who insisted on "explaining" everything. A pox on you, Mr. Science. Nobody cares.
If there was any justice in the universe he would have been sucked up into a ufo.
And fun it is, for only $6! Can't beat that anywhere.
The main staging area, where you wait before going up the hill for the tour, is a very nice deck with great shade plants. Even the gift shop is a far less cheesy place than you normally encounter.
After your visit you can drive around on scenic mountain roads, make your way to a nice place to eat, maybe go the boardwalk or a winery. It makes for a nice day.
I am not sure about the reservations. It is hard to expect people to find this fairly remote place, then find a parking spot, at the time they schedule. In any case, it is certainly better to go early on a week day if you can.
Besides, I do think the compass thing is strange and it is fun to watch tourists from all over the world trying to understand the guide's clever raps.
And, in this day of painted plastic bumpers and the huge costs of repairing them, they no longer have employees slapping Mystery Spot stickers on your car. Just take a free one and stick it on someone else's car.
I found out about this place a few years ago while curious about magnets, aliens and basic strange stuff. It was one of those internet nights of research and intrigue, while avoiding my then boyfriend and his GTA, i'm sure. After reading about this place, i really wanted to go. And, whatever i could find about it seemed to raise more questions than answers. In my mind, it was set.. i would go there.. some day. But, when?
Well, years later the urge was still there but, you know that thing where you let life get in the way of adventures? Well, yeah that had happened.
So, just last weekend Greg takes me on a birthday road trip to San Jose and Santa Cruz. The Mystery Spot was one of several dots on the map for us to visit. And, i'm so glad it was! Getting there is fun too. Curvy road, homemade mailboxes, foresty, beautiful santa cruz mountain!
When we got there i secretly hoped Greg would enjoy it, especially if i really did. He can have the slight tendency to be a captain-bring-down tee hee. Plus considering that we were about eight hours away from home, and he had driven the whole way, and paid for everything, and it was my birthday, and he was getting tired and hungry and cranky, i thought it would be in our best interests if he DID enjoy himself. =)
We arrived with a few minutes to spare before the next tour. The view is awesome with trees all around and tall enough to reach heaven. Tickets are $5 per adult and $5 to park for each car. Tours are about 45 minutes long. Now, i don't understand the parking fee (as i've seen a few peeps mention that as well) but hey, they all need to get paid too. The tour starts and the tour guide does his thing. Everyone seems to be a bit excited but, dubious. Which is totally understandable. Our little introduction to the history of this place and the start up the hill, ends with Greg saying, in his famous incredulous tone, "it's an optical illusion." I think to myself, "geez why did i even say i wanted to come here."The walk up is a bit steep, i would recommend against high heels and flip flops, if you're gonna visit and maybe bring a light sweater, as it get chilly there.
Anyway, without giving too much away.. i'll end this by saying.. Sure, maybe it is an optical illusion, maybe not.. But, for me AND Greg.. ahem.. and a lady that had to leave after less than a minute inside, the very feeling of this place is totally inexplicable. THAT is not an illusion.
If you're not too far away from this little house while going somewhere else, i highly recommend giving it a-go. At least so you can say you did it. Plus you'll get some funny pictures there and i guarantee you, you will start giggling.. oh AND you get a very cool, very hip, bright yellow mystery spot bumper sticker for some good ol' fashioned shameless advertising. I'm so happy i FINALLY went.. and hey, if Greg had fun, you will too.
Huge hit with the kids...and I have to admit that I loved it too! It's cheap ($5 adults & free for kids) and just bizarre (why does the water run up instead of down?). Overall, a good place to go if you are in the area. Watch out for the gift shop...lots of over-priced crap that kids love!
A good value at $5 plus parking but only if you've got other reasons to visit Santa Cruz because it's off the beaten path.
I wasn't really excited about going here, but my daughter was. I called ahead and they said about an hour wait.
Less excited.
But we went.
I heard it was easy to miss, but it wasn't.
Very clearly marked and only 2+ miles off Ocean St.
Simple Simon..
Only beef I have, which is anywhere..
Paying for parking,and admission.
Like you are really going to walk in.
And there aren't any buses that go there.
I have my own revenge for thus, but I don't want to incriminate myself, so I plead the fifth on this....
SO, I was more than exceeded my expectations!
Yay!
After dining at not so cheap places that did not even mee my expectations, this place was stellar on our way OUT of town!
All I can say , is you have to go, once in your life.
Really cool.
And they do NOT exaggerate on their claims that you may become dizzy.
More like totally PUNCH ASS drunk feeling entering the zone.
AND you will feel like a 90 year old Grandma walking up that short ASS hill into the "spot"!
Gravitation!
Hell,
Or hill!
My hubby and I stopped when we were on a northern cali trip. It's cool just don't expect it to be a big place and certainly do not recommend travelling from southern cali just to see it. just stop by if you're around the area. Military gets in free so we were happy to save $5! lol.
For all the naysayers that review this place... bah to you and your sour puss opinions !
This place is fun ! And, it is a mystery to me. Now I've always been a person who feels there is some logical explanation for everything (don't believe in ghosts and stuff) but, this experience left me really thinking. So, indeed the cabin is slanted and your first assumption would be that duh... that is why you feel like your falling when you step inside. But, it was very clear to me that there was some sort of force on your body. I felt "heavier" and somewhat dizzy inside the cabin. The best way I can explain it is as if there is some sort of reverse gravity inside.
What ever the case... I had a lot of fun and, I recommend this attraction to anyone visiting the Santa Cruz area.
Gerg
"GOOD PRICE FOR SOME INTERESTING ENTERTAINMENT."
Things I recommend bringing:
-a leveler
-a camera
-a gameboy, psp, nintendo DS, iPhone, or some handheld because you'll probably be waiting for awhile with nothing to do.
When you leave the main road and turn into the path leading to The Mystery Spot is pretty narrow in some points. On occasion, a car will be coming from the opposite direction and it will be a tight squeeze. Parking lot can fill up fast but the guides do a decent job of getting people to replace spots as people leave. We had to wait about 10 min before we were directed where to park. Not that big a deal.
A cheap $5 for parking and $5 for a tour but you should get there early or buy your tickets online to avoid waiting. We had to wait over an hour for our turn and there really isn't much to do but buy simple food and browse the really small gift shop. So bring your Nintendo DS or play with your iPhone or something.
That being said though, once we got on the tour it was really interesting and fun. It seemed a lot longer than I thought it would be and felt I got more than my money's worth. We had a decent guide. His speech was well rehearsed and I couldn't tell if he was bored or just going through the motions. Overall, he was just fine. You learn about the history and theories of the Mystery Spot. However, the best part is the house.
You totally lose your equilibrium while in there. Lose your sense of left and right and up and down. Some people had to leave that house quick because it was making them queasy. But if you can manage to handle the uneasiness, you can take some really fun photos in the house. Don't forget your camera!
I'll definitely come back again just for the sheer amusement. Also, I have to remember to bring my own leveler next time to see the test results myself. You gotta come here at least once to experience it because writing how it feel in words, just doesn't cut it.
On our way to Monterrey we decided we wanted to check out this much talked about "Mystery" spot and decided to stop just to see what all the fuss was about..
Our GPS apparently took us through the very narrow and winding woods as we didn't know about the other route until we were headed back.
Once we got there it was still pretty chilly at 10:30am and our tour was to start at 11am. We had a pretty nice tour guide who told us of the history of the place, apparently it used to be a piece of land no one wanted, but someone turned into their tool shed. There was definitely a good amount of Mystery involved as to why this one particular area was so off center but no definite explanation.
Once we got into the little shack things certainly felt dizzy and it was hard to keep your balance but at the same time pretty cool.
I was also surprised it was just a little shack basically as I had pictured this entire fun house. Anyway, it was crowded standing in the shack, trying to get pictures.
Overall, it was intriguing and a fun experience. At the end we got our bumper sticker which we wasted no time adding to our collection on the back of our car.
Be warned though, the drive up there is long and narrow so drive slower to be safe and definitely bring a hoodie in addition to your camera!
The family and I really liked Mystery Spot. We had a hard time finding it - the directions on their flyer and when you call are HORRIBLE.
I recommend going on a weekday because apparantly it gets packed on weekends. You get there, pay the 5.00 parking and 5.00 per person, and they give you a tour time. The tours consist of a tour guide and approx 15 other tourists. The tours run every 15 minutes and we were able to get one within 1/2 hour of arrival.
It is NOT all optical illusion as many other reviewers have stated. Its definately a bit cheesy, but it is legitimately a "mystery" and very interesting if you're a bit quirky like we are.
TIP: If you have any physical disabilities or limitations, be aware that there is some steep walking uphill, and you can get very dizzy in various "spots."
The gift shop is VERY expensive. T shirts are 20 bucks, which to me is alot. We still bought one because they are quite silly.
If you're in the area, check it out - definately entertaining for older kids (8 & up).
Tremendous fun!
THE perfect place to take visitors and tourists. It's different, it's interesting, and the arguments if it is not just a beautifully executed illusion and how they did it, will keep you and your visitors busy on your way back home for sure.
I must give them one BOO, for the additional parking fee.
There's a trail access at the end of the parking lot, I'd recommend taking a (beautiful) hike while waiting for your tour instead of falling right into their gift shop trap.
Wow, i got dizzy...but the kids had fun. Probably not the best place to bring a 3yr old bcuz its hard to focus while you are trying to keep yourself and the young one from falling over. It can get musty with everyone breathing and the over excitement of this mystery...lol...none the less i was very happy the kids had a blast. It is also very inexpensive and not too far from dt santa cruz where the shopping is at!!!
Fun place to go during the day. A great little part of Santa Cruz that everyone has to go to (or else you'll always wonder what all those bumper stickers you see are about).
Yeah, it is a bit cheesy and might be all smoke and mirrors but it is fun. The little experiments may just prove the magic. The youtube video that "disproves" everything does not hold water since they actually use a level here as opposed to the video of a crooked shoebox.
If you watch LOST you may be more sick and think you are in a timewarp that will give you the nosebleed of death.
So stupid it was fun. The most fun I had around stupid people that $5 could get me. AND my roommate paid for it. Oh yeh, and you get a free bumper sticker.
This place was cool, for 5 bucks it was worth the experience but, to pay 5 bucks for parking?! Hah...what a JOKE! The road to get there in very narrow and jacked up. So it's like where the heck is everyones 5bucks going toward?!
Anyway, the tour guide was really corny, tried to be funny but he wasn't. He didn't seem very into his job just pretty much had the attitude of "it's another day tired of this BS" haha. The actual house was pretty much just a slanted house on a hill, thats crooked. Once you get inside it's really weird, you get lightheaded..well for me I did. It's cool to take pics but, it's not that exciting. I highly suggest you wear shoes and not sandals because it's a little hard to walk inside the actual house. I wore sandals and i kept sliding everywhere. (probably just my sandals..but still).
All in all, this place is worth a ONE TIME visit...ONLY! haha.
Lots of fun. Even more fun with kids.
Beautiful area. There is a shack there that you go in and pool balls roll upwards as do lipstick. It's all pretty cool illusions and tricks. The guide was a lot of fun. I have a video of this somewhere which I'll have to stick on youtube.
This is the very first time YELP! has guided me to a crap hole.
After doing a little research of my own, I've come to find out that the mystery spot isn't the only one of it's kind, there are 3 other houses just like it on the west coast, ohh some mystery.
Honestly though, i could see how it could have been fun if you had children; however, i'm in my early twenties and it was far from it. We (my boyfriend and I) spent only 5 minutes in the actual house, as the tour in front of us was running behind. If you notice the window in the second room is covered up, surprise! Stick your arm through there and you'll notice that your house is not exactly level, mystery, I think not, ever taken physics, you too can figure it out, build on a slant and everything will end up slanted!
I was also quite pissed at the fact that my car was covered in several mystery spot stickers. All-in-all, I'd say, save the $15 (you and another person + parking) and spend it on something nice.
I can't decide if this place is lame or not, especially since my boyfriend decided to google "mystery spots" after the tour and, well, yea, basically de-mystify it all.
I recommend NOT doing that, going along with it all, and having a good time. The woods are beautiful and this is a kitschy little spot that's fun for everyone. There are some neat things to see, and if you're the most skeptical person at least there's nature and a yellow car sticker involved.
This IS a fun place to go, having been there several times growing up and most recently this past summer.
But now they charge for parking and have a guy monitoring the parking lot. I think this is because with the internet, more people know about this place than they can accomodate at one time.
Further proof of this was that we bought our tix there, but had to wait an hour! Never had that happen before.
Check it out if visiting the Bay Area.
I loved it. It's cheap. The house that's in the "eye' of the mystery spot is super cool. It feels like you're free falling or on a roller coaster or have vertigo. I can't describe that feeling..hehe. But it was a trip being there.
Unfortunately we had a lot of older non-english speaking people in our tour group who needed translation from their adult children or disregarded what our tour guide said and did whatever they wanted to anyway. So we didn't get to see all that he wanted to demonstrate in the house.
So bring a big group so you can dominate, then it'll be even awesomer. I definitely want to go back.
plus the redwood forest area is so nice and green and cool...literally bring a jacket if you're going any other time than summer. We saw a girl with a tank top and some booty shorts and she was sitting on her b/f's lap to keep warm presumably.
We made a whole day of santa cruz, so it's possible. Just head to downtown after for some lunch/dinner and stroll around shops.
OK...been here done that. NEXT!!!
Just kidding. =)
Finally got to experience this place last year with the family. I remember watching an episode of Evening Magazine in the mid 80's with Wayne Walker and Jan Yanehiro and this one episode always stuck with me. If you know who Walker and Yanehiro are, you're an old fart just like me.
Located in the Santa Cruz Mountains, along a winding road, where I hear pot farms are always popping up. The drive to this location was filled with much anticipation. It was a summer weekend in Santa Cruz so the weather was hot. Good thing there were trees everywhere and the parking lot was pretty much shaded. Thank God for that since we brought along Maxie.
There were plenty of tourist like us so we had to wait until the next batch completed their little tour. There is a nice gift shop at the entrance and you are free to wander inside. There were also a bunch of Mystery Spot bumper stickers they were giving away. We took one each but don't have a clue where to place them. Heck no...they're not going on my car.
So, it was finally our turn and we readily complied. They explained how the laws of physics and gravity does not apply here. There are strange forces within this little area and it might have something to do with Aliens. Either that or some kind of magnetic force that may be a gateway to another dimension. (Roll the Twilight Zone theme song)
You walk up a paved pathway and you feel something pressing you down. You pass a certain line, walk further up and you feel a pressure pushing you from behind. WTF is this? Did I inhale some mushroom along the way? It's got to be one of the weirdest feeling you will ever have. Or, you're completely brainwashed into thinking that there is some kind of magnetic force.
You get to the little shack and they show some demonstrations on gravity. Is that ball going uphill or is it an optical illusion? Well, the shack is slanted so your view is a bit obscured. I'm no Scientist or Engineer so I can't explain what's going on. There is that little voice of reason in the back of my head that's saying there's got to be a logical explanation here.
So they told us to go inside the shack and things do get weirder. Why am I feeling nauseous? Some kind of energy is inside the shack bouncing around every particles and atoms that everything is effected; including your equilibrium. You feel like you're about to hurl, so you hurry into the next room and it quickly goes away. There's a rope hanging in the middle of the room but it's slightly tilted. You can easily walk up a wall as if you were Spiderman.
Then we step out of the shack and they ask for volunteers. No one budges so I raise my hand as a sacrificial lamb. Oh, they need one more. OK...at least I'm not the only about to make a fool of myself. They measure our height and I was taller than the other guy. They place us at opposite ends and now he's taller than me. Another optical illusion I say and it has to do with the slanted shack. Or is it?
They say that there are several magnetic spots in the world where everything gets skewed. They have no explanation for it and it's just another mystery to solve. Are we coming back? Probably not, and this was just a once in a lifetime experience for us.
Was that a UFO I saw hovering above the trees?
The Mystery Spot is FUN... stop being a whiner and ruining everyone's time. :p
Make reservations cause they sell-out on weekends.
NO -I don't wanna know why it's not possible. NO - I don't wanna know the secret behind it. I want to spend my 5$ and enjoy a bit of mysterioussss fun. 5$ fun is almost unheard of these days so don't ruin it for me! I can't believe you'd complain about anything that cost that little anyway!
Yes - I'd go back. I'll happily take my friends and family that wanna go when they come and visit me. Though there's a lil wait, it's a perfect lil addition to a Capitola run!
See ya there!
Yeah, it's touristy, but it's still pretty interesting and is something everyone should do at least once. Anything you can do outdoors with friends and family that's highly entertaining and good clean fun can't be all that bad in my book, especially for only $5.00. You even get a little exercise walking up and down that hill.
Warning - For whatever reason, some people do get very dizzy and nauseous here. Could be magnetic fields, a vortex, the spaceship buried below, or maybe just the slant of the trees on the hill. Regardless, the guides are funny and enthusiastic and they even give you a free bumper sticker at the end.
It's cheap, fun outdoor entertainment...what more do you expect for $5.00?!
Lastly, avoid it during peak times and holiday weekends. Certainly not worth waiting an hour for, but awesome if you catch it when things are dead. Be sure to check out the gift shop before or after too.
If you're from the Bay Area, this is one of those places, where you can say I've been there. I found this place from those who have the yellow and black "Mystery Spot" bumper sticker on the car.
Good thing it's cheap! It's basically one of those places where you can walk in and walk out, pending how many people are there.
When I was there, I felt little dizzy, not sure why... the guide mentioned that there was something different about that particular area, but I can't remember her exact words.
I would probably go back in about 10 years....
I always wanted to go here. So we had a free saturday and i decided to drive down to SC to check out this mysterious place. I really wanted to see the broom demo but they didn't have it. =(. I still wasn't disappointed. The house is magical. I think a leprechaun lives in the back.
Our guide was ok. You could tell she's been doing this for awhile. her lines were memorized. When we were outside the house she did demo where the ball looks like it's rolling uphill. I don't know how that works because it was level. I guess I should have checked before we went into the house. That was pretty cool.
all in all I probably wouldn't go back unless I had some kids and wanted to make a pit stop to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. We went to Gilroy after this and geez that was a long drive.
We got some cool bumper stickers. I put them on my friend's big black dodge ram before he left. I wonder if he noticed. hee hee.
