This was our second visit to a Kimpton Hotel and both stays have been literally perfect! The Muse is a fun hotel in a great location with truly outstanding customer service.

Every single staff encounter we had was positive. And some were downright unbelievable. I had forgotten to add my InTouch number to the reservation, but the hotel staff spotted it in advance and had me all set.

We had a superior king, which was just a bit more than a standard room. It was huge for New York and completely spotless.

What was especially nice was getting a totally quiet room, that actually had a view and was as close as we were to Times Square and Rockefeller Center.

We're sold on Kimptons!

this hotel was quite nice.  although i'm not too into the whole urban/modern decor, the thing i remember most about staying here is how hospitable hotel staff were.  they were very sincere and friendly.  when i first walked into this hotel, i was a bit intimidated by the ambiance because the overall decor seemed "cold" (to me).  it seemed very dark (but not gloomy-dark), just...different (but a nice different).  can't explain!!  it was not your typical westin, marriott suites, etc. stay.  as soon as we checked in, however, everything felt like home.  i just couldn't believe how hospitable front lobby staff were - and everyone was extremely cheerful and helpful in how to see the main attractions within a week, and which places to go first and why (and where to eat the most delcious food at prices that wouldn't hurt your vacation fund ;P)

*we should have listened to them thoroughly and not gone to tavern on the green!  aaahhhhhh!!*

anyway, the rooms were exquisite:  clean, linens fresh, i wasn't afraid to jump in bed and just doze away like a baby.  the bathroom was okay, i just found the set up a bit more for show n' looks than traveler's convenience - but still - everything was nicely placed.  lOVED it!

another great PLUS of staying here as well?  location is central to everywhere you want to see and be at.  i highly recommend this hotel, it's well worth it :)

This Kimpton hotel served us well.  The room was extremely comfortable and well appointed.  The staff downstairs were pleasant and efficient.  If you can get in with a favorable rate, just go for it!

As far as the location goes, you're close to just about everything in midtown, which means in particular that you'll have no trouble finding a nearby Starbucks if you're in to that kind of thing.

As far as the rooms go for NYC it is a pretty good size for your standard room. They just redid the interior the lobby and guest rooms....unfortunately they did not change the bathrooms they are still from the pre remodeled rooms...There are reasons I would prefer not to stay there.

1. There was fecal matter on the tank of the toilet....it was gross...yes you heard me poop. The housekeeping staff seemed annoyed that I asked them to come clean it.
2. Service is mediocre at best
3. The restaurant staff is SLOW....
4. The room service menu is pretty bad. and if you ask them for any substitutions the answer is typically no.

Why I would stay there

1. My Corp. has a corp. rate there and generally being the on site host I get an executive suite which are pretty nice.
2. The rooms are pretty large for an NYC room
3. The remodeled rooms are so much nicer than they used to be
4. Really close to NBC Studios (My Corp. has space at the ROCK) nice short walk, if you are visiting the ROCK
5. Really close to Times Square without actually being it in.

Better than most worst than others...

LOVED IT HERE!!!

From the minute you pull up outside and valet takes your car you ARE treated with some of the best customer service I've seen in New York.

The room was terrific.  Fun decor, spacious, comfy bedding, soft towels, and more.

VERY convenient to Times Square and all that New York has to offer tourists.

What's a review without a bit of a critique?  If I had to find something I would say the walls were thin.  But so what!  Have a night on the town and you can sleep through anything!

Would return in a heartbeat.  Truly loved it.

Very warm reception.
The decor is greco-roman inspired while maintaining a streamlined New York effect. It's kinda like a haven on that street so close to Times square and all the craziness.
The bed was extremely comfy, the room had enough space, considering it's New York and the bathroom was pretty too.
I'd totally go here again!!

I am a bit of a Starwood whore - looking for the SPG points wherever I go. In Manhattan, I can usually be found at the W Times Square or the Westin. Kimpton is usually my second chain choice if I can't find a good Starwood hotel.

On my last trip to NYC, I decided to shop around a bit (travel expenses are getting a little more attention than usual for obvious reasons) and found some great reviews for The Muse. My rate for a King Premier room was about $100/night cheaper than anything I could get at the Westin or W, so I decided to go for it. Boy, am I glad I did.

From the moment the doorman opened the door of my car and walked me to the check-in desk to the morning that I checked out, my stay was on par with some of the nicest hotels I've stayed in around the world. My room seemed large for New York, though this was partially due to some nice usage of mirrors. The bed was more comfortable than my favorite Westin Heavenly Bed, and there was plenty of room to work. Free Wi-Fi as well! The view wasn't anything to write home about, but it wasn't awful either.

I will definitely be back.

The Muse Hotel is one of the most polished hotels I've stayed at. It's perfectly nestled in the busy Theatre District with plenty of restaurants nearby, and you can still get a quiet night's rest.

The room was comfortable - nice bedding, flat screen tv, ipod dock, mini fridge, a lot of cabinet/closet space, and spacious bath/shower.
The only thing I would have liked is to have complimentary wireless internet. One thing I didn't mind but amusingly thought as ridiculous was their pricing for the room service menu. They had homemade guacamole for $30 and homemade chips for $20. I'm curious as to who would order that.

I really appreciated the attention to detail. In the bathroom, they had a list of available items travelers might have forgotten. There were also heaters right outside the front door of the hotel so travelers wouldn't be cold while waiting for their rides. The concierge also remembered our faces and would welcome us back every time we passed by.

Me? Stay in a hotel -- in Manhattan?! Why would I do such a thing?!

Yes, yes, I did such a thing for my friend's bachelorette party! She wanted the Plaza -- we gave her the Muse. Still, it did not disappoint! The beds and bedding were extremely soft and comfortable. The location was perfect for all of the things we had planned to do -- see a play, dine out, photograph the bride-to-be with the Naked Cowboy, and, of course, venture out all night to bar hop.

We felt very luxurious, indeed. We donned the fancy robes that were provided for our use. (The staff kindly brought us an extra one so that all four of us could have one.) We enjoyed the beautiful lobby. The room lived  up to our expectations, and was not small or cramped at all. It was a great place to stay. It was costly, but to be in midtown, we definitely got our money's worth!

I didn't even realize The Muse was a Kimpton Hotel until I arrived for check-in.  When booking a group of 28 people, I was looking for something trendy and boutique like near Times Square and after looking a the photos online and doing a site check, I was sold!

My stay did not disappoint!  I was at The Muse for 6 days and the bed gives the heavenly bed (Westin) a run for the money.  There was plenty of closet space, a very large nice bathroom and an iPod alarm clock docking station to make it feel like you are at home.

The only thing that I wouldn't give 5 stars is the room service, but I don't normally pick a hotel for that, so who cares!  Plenty of places to eat within a blocks radius.

Highly recommend this hotel.

Posh, gorgeous, simple, artsy, hip, and very clean. Loved this place. Too bad I was so devastated about losing my camera in the NY Taxi cab that I spent the night crying into the most comfy pillow and soft bed I'd ever been in. Small bathroom, but fantastic bed and decor.

Expensive, but super beautiful.

I recently visited NYC for a conference, and the conference hotel was the Marriott Marquis. Lucky for me, that hotel was all booked, and I ended up at the Muse.

Of course, all Times Square hotels are pricey, so that's not worth talking about too much. The conference rate was under $300/night, and I'm guessing that's a pretty good price for the area.

The Muse is a boutique hotel, and some of the rooms have been recently redone. They upgraded me to one of the upper floors, in one of the revamped rooms.

Slick black and white decor, with a leopard print chaise!  Nice bathroom. Comfortable bed, with a variety of blankets and pillows. Plush robes. L'Occitane toiletries. Flat panel TV.  Though it was August in New York, I managed to hit rainy weather--no worries, the Muse provides an umbrella to use during your stay. They even have one of those things for your iPod, so you can listen to it via speakers.

Wine in the afternoon, coffee in the morning. Great service. Walking distance to everything in Times Square. Comfy loungy chairs in the lobby. I always felt relaxed when I got back to the Muse after my conference sessions.

I didn't go to the restaurant, nor did I order room service. But I thought the staffpersons were very friendly and helpful.

Thumbs up!

I spend about a week a month in NY on business, and have been forced to stay at hotels that 'fit within company policy.' Of course, every hotel that I've tried has been a huge disappointment. I won't mention any names...Algonquin...The Omni...so you can imagine how excited I was when I found out there was a Kimpton hotel a block and a half away from our office! woo hoo!

Now, I typically love Kimpton hotels, but there's a few things about the Muse that forced me to give it a 3+1=4 rating.

3 Rating = room is great, clean, comfortable, just modern enough. but, no DVD player, no HD TV, and the in-room dining just hasn't wowed me yet...and I've tried 4 different entrees to date.

1 Rating = block and a half away from my office. cant go wrong with that.

So overall, I give it a '4'. I will definitely stay here for my next business trip to NY, and most likely there on after.

Oh yeah, and I just found out that the concierge can get me 24 hour in-room spa service. for that, i add another .5 rating. Total - 4.5 out of 5.

I booked a room at The Muse sight-unseen basing my selection on the information they provided on their Web site, which can be risky (did anyone see the Golden Girls episode where they did that-?? disastrous). But to my relief and delight, the photos and descriptions were spot on. This boutique hotel was clean (top priority) and had good bath products (second priority). The rooms remind me of the W with pretty plush beds and minimal decor. They arent' very large, but there's enough space to spread out a bit. I had dinner at the attached restaurant, District and while I was only one of three patrons eating that night, the food was still very good and while not Chili's prices, it wasn't a terrifying bill either. I wouldnt advocate staying in Times Square if given a choice, but if you had to (like me) I would definitely recommend this place to come in from the cold.

Don't let the fact that it's a corporate hotel throw you off... How else are you going to run into Auren Hoffman looking true blue Repub? Incredible staff. That if you ask nicely and wear a suit, will give you a free glass of wine. You can also get a room with a decent view

My office is in Times Sqaure and since I'm there a lot (think at least two to three times a month), I used to stay in The Muse.

Never again.

I am a self described Kimpton Whore.  Kimpton Hotels are my first choice no matter where I travel.  Kimpton allows you to bring your dog, and I like to take Eddie with me on all my travels.  But I digress.

On my last trip to The Muse, this horrific event happened:

-- My husband and I were travelling together (for once) and arrived to check in at 7:00 p.m.  I had booked my room 10 days in advance, had a copy of my itinerary and confirmation number. When I arrive I am told that they oversold the hotel and they do not have a room for us.  I remain calm, remind them that this really wasn't my problem, that they had already charged my credit card, that I had a dog with me, and the chance of me finding a dog friendly hotel at that time for a five night stay was between slim and none.  And that they better find a room.  STAT.
-- They did find a room.  On the second floor, right above the Muse sign, with an air conditioner/heating unit that was so loud, we had to go by ear plugs at Duane Reade to sleep (as they had no one on staff who could fix it).  And the room STUNK to high heaven of cigarette smoke and was so loud that it was impossible to sleep.
-- The next day they put us in a room that was more acceptable.
-- When we checked out, my husband realized half way home that he had left his $500+ watch in the room.  We called the hotel immediately  and guess what?  The watch never turned up.

I will never, EVER stay there again.

A few years ago I traveled with my husband on a business trip and the Muse was one option for lodging but unfortunately he went with another. We stayed in a teeny tiny room not far from the Muse on that trip. I recently traveled with a friend and was shocked by the size of our room at the Muse. It was huge, especially for Time Square. The beds were comfy. The service friendly. I'd be interested to know what kind of discounted rates people have scored here though. I don't think I'd pay that kind of money to stay in Time Square myself. One nitpick: the wine service from 5 to 6 is a nice touch, but they should offer some crackers with that rather full glass of wine (aren't I picky?). Okay, two more, they need new towels, the dull, frayed ones just didn't fit and the gym's elliptical machines are a bit old and clunky, I'd rather have a pass to a nearby gym.

as i was just making reservations for the hubby and me at a san francisco kimpton hotel, i realized i never wrote a review for my beloved Muse in new york city. The Muse is great for many reasons -- one big one being that it is a small, boutique hotel (which i prefer to large monstrosities) and the location is KICK ASS. the hubby and i are into seeing broadway plays -- the Muse is smack dab in the middle of all the Times Square/Broadway excitement, but it's also quiet and feels like home. hell, i think i've found heaven. we walked just about 8 or so blocks to central park -- which was lovely and not too cold while we were there in february. the beds are super-comfy. i LOVE the Muse's bath robes (mine was a leopard print -- so much fun) and the Aveda bath products. the wine in the lobby was nice. the restaurant is a bit too pricey for what it offers -- but there are so many great options nearby that it doesn't matter. there's even an irish pub next door! the hotel doorman was the nicest guy -- he gave us restaurant tips, hailed us a taxi twice, just chatted while we were checking in. i mean, dude, we felt like royalty... all while not breaking bank. an amazing value for nyc.

also, something i really really like about the kimpton hotels is that they are LGBT, environment, and pet friendly -- which is just very very cool.

really, i'd like to give the Muse 4 1/2 stars, if it were technically possible here. only 1/2 star off because there were no computers available for the guests to use and i didn't bring my laptop -- so i had to walk to Kinko's to check my email. i believe there is wifi though.

that said, i'm sporting the 5 stars for the Muse anyway -- just because i've got so much love for it. you will, too.

This place is great- great location, great staff and great service. The rooms were very nice and a good size for NYC hotel rooms. They also offer free happy hour so you can get to know their staff, which  you do! Very nice people who remember your name every time you leave/ come back. The hotel is very close to central park, and has a nice bar in the back with excellent food.

The Muse is another great Kimpton hotel.  Great staff,  central location (minus the whole Times Square aspect), and social hour.  The rooms are good size for NYC.  There are multiple lines just within a block or two, so if you are venturing towards Queens or Brooklyn, you should be good to go.  Next time I am back that way, I'm  there.

You know, it's the little things that make hotels great.  Like the high end bath products, the comfy sheets, and the two-ply toilet paper.  The fact that it's a centrally located hotel with a great concierge service just makes it all the better.

If you're considering staying at The Muse, go to the Hotel Roger William instead! I didn't have bad service at this hotel, but it was just so dark, dim and kinda depressing. The room was really small and cramped, and it's located in the most awful neighborhood -- Times Square...aaaaaahhh!

I don't know where all these other reviewers had stayed, but it couldn't have been at The Muse. The only friendly and attentive staff members were the bellman, and the rest were yuck. I asked the concierge one morning how to get to an address on wall street, and she said ' i dont know where that is.' So i went onto pulling out a map and asking her to point it out on a map and help me that way, still clueless. Is it possible that i encountered the rare species of person who has never heard of Google maps? So extremely unhelpful when all she needed to do was punch in the address that i wanted to go to and give me the best subway line to take.
The rooms are of nice size, though the hallway layouts are odd at best - very maze. They could film rat race 2 in this hotel if need be, Whoopi get ready ! I could go on and on about the loose shower head, metal luggage rack (so so tacky), curtains from a '86 winnebago, but i wouldn't want to hurt anyones feelings.
On a promising note, my friend Erica has just been appointed GM of this property and i wish her all the best to take this Times Sq. masacre to something more UES.

I didn't want to like the Muse when I saw a bed overtaken by pillows of all shapes and sizes, but it has to be one of the best hotels in New York. The rooms border on gaudy, but the amenities like a flat screen tv, ipod dock, top notch toiletries and a helpful concierge service won me over. I didn't get a chance to go to the nightly wine receptions, but the staff from the front desk clerks to the bellhop made me feel more than welcome. Shout out to the guy who went around the corner to grab me a cab during rush hour.
