I had a great stay at the Moore Hotel. The guy at reception was particularly awesome. A word to the shy: the cheap rooms are "European Style" i.e. the shower and toilet are outside the rooms. It wasn't a big deal the night I stayed but if you are shy or are sick of dealing with humanity, spring for the more expensive rooms with a private bathroom. The location, right next door to the Moore concert venue, is pretty handy. Tori Amos was playing the night I was there and lots of locals were staying overnight at the Moore Hotel while enjoying the concert.

Can't wait to come visit the Moore Hotel again.

This place was great! I booked it because I needed a cheaper option the last couple days of my Seattle trip. It's in a great location (when I Google mapped it, it said it was on the corner of 2nd & Cedar, but it's actually on the corner of 2nd & Virginia - which is like steps away from Pike's Place Market), and it is super affordable!

If you don't mind sharing a shower, book the European style room. My room still had a bathroom with a working sink & toilet - the only thing it didn't have was a working shower. But, the one down the hallway from my room was super nice and clean and it didn't feel like it was a shared space at all.

The only downside to this hotel is it seems it's located right next to a shelter of some sort - lots of homeless right outside the hotel, but I never felt unsafe as a girl by myself. Also, it can be quite loud sometimes, the walls are thin and there's an alley right behind the hotel that can be loud if you have a room by it. ALSO, there's no internet in the rooms, but I think I got lucky to be situated in an area where I was able to use the wireless of some guy named Howard. Must have been in another building or something.

Anyway - long story short, I really enjoyed my stay here. Just be prepared to get what you pay for, and you'll be just as happy as I was.

Funky old hotel in the heart of downtown, right by the Pike Place Market. The famous Moore Theater is off to one side of the hotel. No shows were going on while we were staying there for three nights so I have no idea how well insulated the theater is. We were serenaded by a drunk trumpet player one night though.

Check in was smooth enough, just a quick one two punch. Nice big lobby with comfy chairs and couches along with two computers for your use. You can't print anything off of them though. We needed our City Passes printed and the hotel staff was not helpful.  Our friends that lived there saved the day!

The elevator is super tiny so just you and your bags will fit. I have seen smaller, where you have to send your bags up and take the stairs to meet them. The long hall ways make you feel like you have stepped back in time. Almost Shiningesque.

Our room was the last door up a couple stairs at the end of the 7th floor hall. You actually have to bend over to get into the door if you are taller than 5'6". Once the door opens though you walk into a HUGE room. Super tall ceilings and floor to ceiling windows. There is a step up to the bathroom and another floor to ceiling window in there.  Then we discovered there is NO AC in the building. We checked in on a 90 degree day. It was a pretty miserable night of sleep. They had one tiny retro fan in the room and we opened the windows pronto. The second night was a little better and the third night was perfect sleeping weather.

The bed was comfy and firm but we did buy softer sheets. (Bed Bath and Beyond is located directly behind the hotel where there is also public parking.) The ones they use felt like a blend and they were pilly. That on top of the heat was just not a good combo. Egyptian cotton people!

The only thing that was really off about the room aside from the sheets was the lack of chairs. We had friends visiting with us and we didn't invite them up because of the lack of seating. We had one two seater leather couch. Luckily the bar downstairs was nice and roomy including a couple pool tables and very strong drinks. Yay!
There were two closets in the room and they had wooden hangers!
Small fridge, microwave, coffee maker were in the kitchenette.

So for location, and ambiance I give the place 4 stars. Nice touch was the towel animal in the bathroom, but nicer sheets, chairs and printing off a piece of paper would have helped push it up to 5 stars.

This was the perfect hotel for a quick weekend stay in Seattle.  The location is hard to beat: just blocks from Pike Place market and within walking distance to tons of shopping, restaurants, and bars.
The staff was incredibly down to earth and super friendly.  We stayed in a standard room on the 6th floor with a private bathroom and queen size bed.  The room was really clean, simple, and nicely decorated.  The bathroom was also very clean and had a beautiful claw foot tub.
Every floor is decorated a little different and it looks like they are still in the process of updating a couple floors.  They all look really modern, I look forward to staying on a different floor in the future.
The only downside is that there is no parking provided.  There is a lot directly across from the hotel that costs about $4-5 an hour and $10 overnight until 7am.  We had to set an alarm to wake up and move the car at 7...luckily at that time we found street parking which was free on Sundays.  All in all it cost us about $50 to park for a 2 day period.

I will definitely stay here the next time I'm in Seattle.

Is it possible for an historic hotel to have TOO much character? I definitely enjoyed my stay here, but let's just say that this place has a distinctive "ghostbusters" energy. On an unrelated note, I was told that the curious dressers are handmade by an on-site carpenter who works in the basement swimming pool (drained of course, and not open to the public). This is probably the most affordable hotel in downtown Seattle, so no excuses: grab your copy of Stephen King's "1408" and book a room. Boo!

I'll just start by saying, Loved it!
Even though our room didn't really have much of a view, our room was BIG. Walking into our room was an actual living room area with a couch, table, dining area, and a small kitchenette area off to the side which when we opened the cupboards included pots and pans as well as silverware on the table. Not that I'm the type to cook while traveling, but the fact I could had I wanted to was a nice plus. Through to the next room was a size-able bedroom area that led to the bathroom that had one of those classic / antique bathtubs with the ball and claw feet on it. When my girlfriend saw it she announced "Awesome!" which I had to agree. It was equipped with shower and curtain so bath or shower were to be had if one wanted.
But before we ever got to our room was a hotel desk clerk who proved to be invaluable to us while in Seattle. There were other desk clerks, none of who I talked to, but my girlfriend had a somewhat rude experience with a different clerk after coming back from a walk. The clerk demanded to know who my girlfriend was and if she needed a room. It all got sorted out, but my girlfriend came back into the room with her feathers ruffled. We mentioned this to "our" clerk and he was well aware of who we were talking about. Said the clerk in mention was a bit over zealous at times. When we checked out to leave Seattle, that over zealous clerk helped us without incident. So ... maybe it was bad day for that clerk???
Back to "our" clerk. He knew everywhere to go, touristy or not. We like to go off the beaten path and he had great suggestions, just about all we took him up on. And I have to admit, we weren't disappointed with any of them.
The location of this hotel is great if you want to be near the Pike Place Market, which is a couple blocks away. We found this hotel to be a great centrally located hotel that is perfect for first time visitors to Seattle.
The 2 downsides to this hotel.
Parking sucks! But that really isn't the hotels fault, it's Seattle's. ALL of Seattle had horrible parking, no matter what direction you drive in for 10 miles in any direction. So I really can't pin this one on the hotel. But if you do stay here, you can park in the Bed Bath and Beyond parking structure for $25 for a 24 hour period which is 2 blocks behind the hotel. Other than that you take your chances with street parking which isn't that much cheaper and you have to get up early (8AM) to move you car or pay for 2 more hours ($5) of parking. Plus you might have to park 10 blocks away ... eesh.
Only other problem, noise. I brought ear plugs and was fine. My girlfriend didn't bring ear plugs ... and was fine. She obviously is a much better sleeper than I. But with my earplugs, no problem at all sleeping in.
I would have no problem recommending this hotel or staying here again. There was lots of things to walk to of interest as well as great places to eat.

You know what, this is a great cheap alternative for college students who can't afford much and want to stay right in downtown. The place still used a key, I was kind of surprised since I'm so use to card keys these days. The place does have character, and seems to have kept alot of original fixtures with little upgrades. Everything was clean and bathroom was tiny but new. Yay for free wifi, just call up the frontdesk and ask for the password.

Personally if you're with a significant other, and want to somewhat impress her/him, don't come here.

And ofcourse the walls are paper thin, could hear a couple having sex next door -.-

Not gonna lie.. I was little scared after walking around Pike and just glancing up the road at the Moore Theatre sign. I figured the place would be more on the decrepit side (I know I know.. don't judge a book by its cover).. but it actually turned out pretty well. Slash.. the theatre is attached but the hotel looks much nicer.

The lobby staff don't have uniforms or anything so people hanging out kind of look like they might be employees. haha.. There are two computers in the sitting area for use.. but I was able to pick up on some random wireless networks in my room and downstairs with my iTouch. The elevator isn't as creepy as people have said.. although.. I've lived through some creepy elevators. There's also a distinct smell.. not bad necessarily.. but yeah.. lived in. heh

The rooms felt like I was in a dorm.. or sleeping in PS 121.. err even.. a glorified hostel. Our neighbors were musicians and young couples (no sign of children.. although with the atmosphere, if I saw any, I'd be creeped out). The bathroom is teeny and the seat is REALLY close to the wall. The shower stall is definitely of the dorm variety with limited room/space to put your toiletries. And the sink has definitely seen better days. Although, I did enjoy the elephant towel (see pix). :) The beds were pretty comfy but nothing to rave about. As far as "additions" to the room.. there was no clock (which totally threw me off), or hair dryer (although I saw someone returning one when I checked in) or ironing board. The fan was of the CVS/Rite Aid mini variety and the TV channels were basic. The mini fridge was passable.

But for $90 (and two beds).. it's a steal considering its location (minus the loud overflow of the bars during some times of the night.. but we slept right through it). Super close to that Nordstrom outlet (thank heavens) and Pike.. not to mention downtown/Westlake Shopping Center, etc. It's about 20 minutes (on a good walk) from the Seattle Center.. the staff definitely told my friend 15 though.. so be warned. And there's usually only one old school non-flashy key per room which can kinda be a drag.

OH and don't fall out of the window. There are no screens. And speaking of screens, don't forget to close your blinds while changing.. there are offices across the street. :) Also, put the don't disturb sign on your door or else the housekeeper might just walk right in. Or that might just be my luck with Seattle hotels.

For Friday night of Memorial Day weekend, we paid about $90 including taxes and fees.

Not bad, considering it's just a couple blocks from Pike Place, the 194 bus stop (which takes you to/from the airport), the monorail, etc.  If you're willing to walk about 15 minutes, you can get to the Seattle Central Library, the Seattle Aquarium, and even Seattle Center.

Because there are several bars nearby, the neighborhood seemed populated and safe, even at night.  At 2am, we walked back from Cinerama with no fear.   The bar patrons can get noisy though, so I wouldn't recommend this hotel for light sleepers.

The room was comfy and clean. The TV worked fine (though the remote had no numbers, just up/down arrows).  There's internet and a computer in the lobby.  The checkout desk can be a madhouse though -- be prepared to wait in line, esp. on weekends.

I'd stay here again.

The place is affordable, safe, clean, ideally located and has a lot of character.  Just don't expect some of the basic services you are used to finding in hotels these days.  Getting ready for my flight in the am, I needed to print my boarding pass, and alas...no way to do this here.  Seems like a minor thing, but would seem a basic thing for a hotel in a major tourism city to offer...hope they work on that - they offer free wifi in the lobby, and even a computer to use, but no way to print the boarding pass......staff not willing to bend any rules at all to help out either...

I suppose it depends what you are looking for in a hotel, as well as how much you are willing to spend, as to whether you will like the Moore. If you get the suite you will probably like this place, even though it is not as posh as some suites you may have stayed in.

This is a historic "European" hotel, meaning stuff is old and if you are cheap you will end up sharing a bathroom down the hall. If you are willing to spring for the suite though, for a whopping $30 extra a night, you will have your own bathroom, complete with a lovely claw foot tub which more comfortably seats two that your tub at home would likely fit one person.

The suite also comes with a kitchenette you will probably not use since you are on vacation and will be out seeing the sights and taking advantage of someone else doing the cooking for you. Unless you are cheap. But then you probably wouldn't have sprung for the suite, right?

The other nice thing about the Moore is that it has the Nite Lite downstairs so you can get completely shitfaced drunk and stumble backup to your room with a stolen plant from the bar and since you are still in the same building not feel remorse for stealing it. If you get the suite there is a lovely table on which you can place the stolen, yet not stolen, plant and admire it.

And when you are this wasted, and you have the suite, you can have sloppy loud drunk sex because the wall your bed is against is the wall to your kitchenette area, not your neighbors room.

If I haven't made it abundantly clear let me spell it out for you.

Get. The. Suite.

You need a sense of humor to stay here.  The place is old, and that "old world charm".
The people at the front desk are usually helpful, and can be chatty, giving you suggestions on bars and restaurants.
The rooms are sparse, nothing to be impressed by but definitely an experience.  It's the kind of hotel room you get when you are in the city to do things, not hang out in your room.
For the price, it doesn't get much funnier and convenient than the Moore!

It's pretty pathetic when the hotels you stay in during vacation are larger than your own apartment! We got a suite (the exact same one as Drue - yay clawfoot tub!!!) and it rocked! The view...not so good except for the peeping kitty cat in the apartments next door. The kitchenette is a 2 burner stove with an attached sink on the other half. The dining table is very nicely setup!

The decor is very modern, and there was plenty of room to sprawl...

And! Location Location Location!!

You're so close to Pike's Place and Seattle is just full of places to spend yer money with the Moore Hotel right in the midst of it!

Enjoy!

If you're in town for a night, this is a fine place
If you're a student, this is a fine place
If you're looking to pick up a girl at a bar and have a one night stand, this is a fine place.
If you're "Diarrhea Mustache"* drunk while downtown this is a fine place.

Otherwise, if you want nice, romantic, a hotel where every room has a bathroom, clean, classy, or something else that all the other hotels are... This is not the place.

5 ways to make your hotel 5 stars on Yelp, Mr. Moore:
1. Get my reservations right. Keep them that way.
2. A little consistency among your staff wouldn't hurt.
3. If a room has cracked tile, stained ceilings, and part of the bathroom floor is gouged out, you may want to do a few simple renovations.
4. Lose the polyester coverlets.
5. Un-broken furniture is classier than broken furniture and less likely to cause injury to hotel guests.

3 Reasons your hotel is worthy of 3 stars, Mr. Moore:
1. VERY CHEAP. $50-$80/night for two people never sounded so good.
2. BIG ROOMS. They were big alright. Not exactly a room I want to hang out in all day, but they were big. A double (two queens) could easily sleep 4-6 people if you're travelling on the super cheap.
3. LOCATION. It couldn't be better! Two blocks from Pike's, about 4 blocks from the downtown shopping area, and on a street lined with dive bars, including the Nite Lite, which is located IN the Moore Hotel.

We're currently in the planning stages of a Yelper Dive Bar Crawl weekend in Seattle so we'll definitely be back to the Moore to get our rowdy on. The Moore is not romantic. The Moore is not a "special occasion" kind of place. The Moore is more of a party-like-a-rockstar- and-break-shit kind of place. And that's ok by me.

Whatever you do, DON'T GET ALL PSYCHO when the clerk tells you after a long string of booking hassles that you don't actually have a reservation for tonight, even though stuff like this causes even the most patient people to GET ALL PSYCHO. The clerk will probably be able to book another room for you after curtly asking you not to GET ALL PSYCHO with her.

Once you're checked in and no longer ALL PSYCHO, you might notice all the marble lobby with the art decoish furniture, the creepy hallways (different floors are painted different colors, but it all looks like something out of a twilight zone episode) and the view from the upper floors. The Moore is a 'historic' hotel, meaning that sometimes the tile in the bathroom is cracked and the floors creak and there aren't many modern conveniences, but none of that matters because it's got crown moldings and shit.

The Moore Hotel is also cheap, and right downtown. Visitors with drinking problems will appreciate all the bars nearby; The Nite Lite is in the building, The Whisky Bar is across the street, and Shortys, The Virginia Inn, and The Blarney Stone are just a couple blocks away. I'd stay here again next time I'm in Seattle (which should be soon.)

P.S. Room 618 has a really cool iron clawfoot tub, in which at least one Yelper has passed out in a bridesmaid's dress.

I found out about this hotel on Yelp and I am glad that I did.  The staff is super friendly, the rooms are nice, they fold your towels into the shape of birds  (awww, how cute) and they are pretty inexpensive.  Every time I have been to Seattle and whenever I go back to Seattle, this is my hotel of choice

Their is only street parking, which sucks, but you are in downtown Seattle.

Oh, and I almost forgot, if you get a room above the theater and a band is playing that night, you can hear sound check.  :)

Great location, amazing price, clean rooms (everything in our room seemed new, including the carpet and bathroom tile), friendly staff!

We booked a room for a weekend to see a concert at the King Cat theater, traveling all the way in from Issaquah.  :-)  We've already booked a room for Halloween!

We had planned that first stay with a couple of friends who were also attending the concert.  They turned up their noses, wanting something fancier.  They missed out!  Don't YOU miss out!  ;-)

Other reviews have covered it pretty nicely.  Be aware, they have a "no visitors" policy, so don't expect to host an after-party with anyone who's not checked in, but it's totally worth it for us rather than driving back to the Eastside after having a rowdy evening.  And at the price, why not stay two nights and make a weekend of it?

I think our 5th floor room was right over the theater itself.  It wasn't a problem since we were out at our own show for the evening, but you could clearly hear all the music, singing and cheering from below.

We also had to make the best of all the shopping.  Yes, we made it to the Rack and definitely Pike Market.

Can't wait to stay again!

Stayed at the Moore Hotel because of the value and location of the hotel. I am not a super picky traveller and only really require rather basic amenities while traveling. Upon entering the Moore, one can tell it is a rather old hotel and building. The scariest thing about the hotel is its elevator, which if you have a fear of elevators, it will be brought even further to light when going up this elevator. It's creaky, small and just old but scary because of it.

The room itself was nicer than I expected. It was a typical budget hotel room, with comfy beds, a nice view and a tv set. The bathroom could use a renovation and had some mildew around the shower's edges. Additionally, the shower stalls drain was extremely slow, causing some water to overflow from the shower stall and onto the bathroom floor. (Hence, probably the reason there was mildew around the shower base.) A nice touch was that the towels were all folded into shapes to create a very lovely presentation. Even the toilet paper roll was folded into a seashell shape.

Overall, the stay was nice and even though we had a room that face 2nd Street, there wasn't much traffic noise at all. Additionally, there was a show at the Moore Theatre the night we stayed. However, that show seemed to end by 11 PM and even when it was occuring, there wasn't much discernable noise coming from it to our room. All that said, I was able to soundly sleep at the Moore.

The hotel has great character and charm and once you get past the scary elevator, you realize just how many people have walked and stayed in these rooms. If you require newer surroundings with updates, I wouldn't necessarily think this is the place for you. However, I find its history and charm to be insurmountable and for the right person, this is the perfect place to stay. I wouldn't be surprised if those halls are haunted!

My husband and I rolled into Seattle from P-town to watch a baseball game.  Being frugal and a supporter of local business, I decided to find a hotel that was inexpensive (for Seattle) and was not a chain.  The Moore had mostly good reviews, except for the bad service mentioned several times.

It is located about 20 blocks from Safeco, but our legs are in great working order and seeing the city on foot is always the best.  There are a lot of other sites to see around the hotel, including the adjoining Moore Theater.  I am going off on a tangent from the hotel a moment, but the theater is reputed to be haunted.  During our stay, the TAPS team was at the theater investigating paranormal acitivity throughout the night.  If you are unaware, TAPS investigations are aired on the Sci-Fi channel and can be pretty entertaining.

Back to the hotel.  The lobby and the rooms are very spartan, but we are not here to stay at the hotel all day.  The atmosphere and people are what you would find in a hostel setting, but we are not always concerned about esthetics.

The rooms lack air conditioning, but the windows open!  We also got to spy on the camera crew below,  after our night on the town.

Three stars for the hotel, one more added for the "celebrity sighting" of TAPS.  And yes, we would stay there again.

If you take a chance on staying at the Moore Hotel you'll be greatly rewarded. It offers bargain basement prices but delivers large, comfortable rooms. The beds are quite nice. It's gives you hotel standards (e.g. maid service, phone, cable tv) at hostel prices.

Only downsides are no wifi in the rooms (it's in the lobby) and no air conditioning (which usually wouldn't be a problem except for the unseasonably hot weather while I stayed there). I didn't let the factors effect my rating because I spent barely any time in my hotel room while I was there, and neither should you. The Moore's right in the heart of downtown Seattle, and the friendly hotel staff and friendly Yelpers gave me plenty of ideas for things to do.

Visiting Seattle for the first time, my fiancee left it up to me to find a hotel. Now I am a cheap person by nature but I like my creature comforts. The only thing I was certain of for hotels was that I wanted to stay near Pike Place Market so I didn't have to drive over there and pay to park or take a bus. I wanted to walk.

Well, this really was the first time I turned to Yelp for help. And I'm glad I did.

The Moore Hotel is definitively pimp.

That's it, really. A cool hotel that dominates a city block that is old and classic. The room was comfortable and larger than expected. The price was cheaper than expected. I went down the stairs instead of the elevator (did I mention lazy along with cheap?) and saw that the 3rd floor was being renovated. It felt like a scene from the Shining, what with little light streaming in from the doorless rooms down the hall and the tile and carpet ripped up. My fiancee wouldn't go down the stairs after I told her. She said if I ever wanted to stay there again not to mention it. I want to stay at the Moore again, so I kept my yap shut.

The Moore is so close to Pike Place Market we ended up eating half our meals there. Plus there's the Nite Lite next door, a dive bar that apparently was open 24 hrs a day not too long ago.

The only negatives to the Moore are that there was no water pressure in our tiny shower. I'm a big guy and I'm used to water blasting the soap away. It ended up taking a long time for me to take a shower. Showering just wasn't comfortable for me. It could have just been our room. If not for the shower this would be five stars. Also the television had like 8 working channels but no local channels. We didn't really stay in the room that much but it would have been nice to watch something other than ESPN or FNC before going to bed.

The staff were uniformally nice and helpful. The parking structure across the street was safe and priced reasonably for the city.

I'll be back to the Moore Hotel.

I absolutely loved the Moore Hotel.  I happened across it while searching for Seattle hotels with suites - we were going on vacation with my mother and we needed two separate rooms.  The Moore looked like a perfect fit - completely non-smoking, well-located, separate rooms, and a great price.

When we got there, I was really impressed by the hotel.  The Moore has the atmosphere of a hostel - friendly staff, interaction with other guests if you want to, free internet in the lobby, multiple guests per room...but with the perks of a hotel - privacy if you want it, maid service, private bathrooms if you want it, no curfews!  It's got a very bohemian vibe, and it's just a few blocks from Pike Place Market.

I seriously cannot rave enough about the Moore Hotel.  They are helpful and accommodating, the rooms are spartan but comfortable, and it's just outstanding.  I plan to stay at the Moore Hotel anytime I come back to Seattle!

I picked this place after reading the reviews, and I have to say I was pretty disappointed.  I'm not one to be picky about decoration, as long as the beds and towels are clean and I don't feel icky about walking on the floor.

The staff gave my friend the 3rd degree and it was definitely like staying in a hostel NOT a hotel.  I would NOT recommend this place to anyone, except a student who does not have friends and does not plan to take anyone larger than an elf back to their room.

I stayed in a single, queen room. Very spacious, lots of light, extremely clean, great location. The building is pretty old, but the plumbing seemed to work fine. Lots of water pressure and warm water. There's a venue on the lower level, but I didn't hear a thing the night I stayed.

No frills, great price considering the location.

My lady reserved this place for a holiday getaway saying it was a great location and it was. The lobby staff look like regular folks which could be confusing if they weren't behind the reception desk. The room we were in was nice with a window view out onto 2nd Street. Not much of a view but the location, again, is where this joint shines. Within walking distance to Pike Place and the rest of downtown. The rates are pretty reasonable.

So my boyfriend booked us a room at the Moore hotel as a back up to priceline. He figured if we could not get a nice priceline hotel we could stay at the Moore. When he initially sent me the link I was scared. The hotel looked drab and a bit scary and upon arrival I was still a bit scared. The lobby is not the most inviting.

However once we got to our room it was very cool. The room reminded me of a friend's apartment from college. You know that friend that always had good taste and decorating skills and could make a place look great for under $100. Our room was also HUGE. I would say it was close to 600 sq ft.

All in all I would stay there again if we stayed in a suite which is what we stayed in (only because we were upgraded). The suites are about $100-$130. We were upgraded from a regular room which was $80. I walked by a regular room and I have to admit I would not have been too happy if we had not had a suite.

So stay at the Moore happily if you have a suite and complacently if you have a regular $80 room.

One more thing you cannot BEAT the location. It is literally two blocks from pikes market .

My boyfriend had stayed at the Moore Hotel 6 years ago on a cross-country trip, so when he suggested that we stay there on our recent trip to Seattle, I let him take care of our vacation plans. We took public transit ( MT194 / $1.25) from SEATAC, which lets you off 3 blocks from the hotel - an easy walk. This place is fantastic for the money if you don't require a lot of "extras." They offer shared and private baths (the private baths go pretty quickly), and we tried out each. Even the shared bath option gives you a sink in your room. The hotel feels much like a hostel at first - it's old and not in the best visual condition, the hallways are a little dark, the elevator only holds a couple of people, and the doors to the rooms require *gasp* actual KEYS! The neighborhood is a little gritty, but we never felt unsafe at any time. It is a highly trafficked area, so you're seldom wandering about by yourself. It's a pretty bare bones setup, but everything was super clean, functional, we had a fantastic view of the water, and the building is constructed like a prison (thick plaster walls), so we never heard a peep from our neighbors.

The close proximity to just about everything is amazing - we walked to Pioneer Square (~25 minutes), Safeco Park (~35 minutes), Pike Place Market (less than 5 minutes), and took a quick bus ride over to the Seattle Center. This place is central to everything you'll need to explore Seattle efficiently and thoroughly.

If you're into fancypants-type accomodations and need a lot of catering to, this place is not for you. There are no clocks in the room, no pictures on the wall, you may/may not get a mirror in your room, but the place is well worth the money that you'll save, and the service that we received from everyone working there was 5-star. They definitely have a lifelong customer in my guy and myself.

Pros: Great value; walking distance to almost everything Seattle

Cons: Limited in-room amenities (clocks, etc.)

The most important thing to note about this hotel is the fact that it is 1 block from Nordstrom Rack.  It's close to everything you want to be near, including shopping, sights, food, booze.  We stayed 4 days and everyone at the front desk at any time of day was super helpful.  We split our trip and stayed in 2 different rooms.  Both were clean and had views of Seattle Center.  It's not the most comfortable sleeping; no high thread counts, or goose down.  But for the price, there is nothing better!

this place is pretty great -- certainly quite well located.  I was on the 5th floor  and was quite impressed by how quiet the room was.

I loved this hotel.  great location, great price and great staff.  it is european, in that it is more spartan -- but extremely clean and full of character.  you gotta be into it though...if yer a marriott suites kind of person, this is not going to float your boat.  but if you love charming, unique places - this is the place for you.  I was traveling alone and the staff was wonderful.  will return. hopefully sooner than later.

if you're a budget traveler, and have no friends upon whose couches you can crash, stay at the moore hotel.

we were just there in november and had a euro style room (shared bathroom).

it's an old place, and yeah, admittedly, you'll wonder about its history and feel like you've seen it before on all those history channel specials on ghosts and hauntings.

our bed was definitely smaller than a queen, and the bathroom was down the hall. there's no heater, and it's really dark.

it's bare bones, that's for sure, but definitely worth the $avings and takes care of all your needs. plus, the location can't be beat.

you're on the border of belltown (actually a really boring enclave that everyone thinks is hipster paradise), but within spitting distance of pike place market.

It's nothing fancy, but the rooms are pretty spacious and clean, and you can't beat the price for the location.  I do wish they offered parking - make sure to budged about $15 - $20 per day for parking if you have a car.  The staff was very friendly, and seemed do a really good job at handling many things at once. My only complaint is that I couldn't access their wireless network, but that was probably attributable to Operator Error.  The elevator is very small, but it was fully operational during our entire visit - which surprised me a little, given the age of the hotel and, therefore, the elevator.  I'd stay here again, even if I wasn't on a tight budget.

The Moore is excellent. I stayed here for 4 nights during a recent vacation in Seattle.  The place is clean, inexpensive, the staff was really helpful and like everyone else has said...you can't beat the location.

This is definitely not a Motel 6 or Hyatt.  The hotel is quirky, a little beat up and even a little spooky (our closet had a tiny door in it that opened up into the wall space. Also, if we didn't deadbolt the bedroom door it would randomly open on its own.)  But thats the beauty of this place...you'll probably never stay in another place like it.

I will absolutely stay here during future visits to Seattle and will recommend it to anyone I know headed out there.

We've been here twice, once because we saw a show at the Moore and once to save ourselves from the Travelodge by the Space Needle. The rooms are big, the staff's cool and the towels are all folded into bird shapes.

It's near tons of cool stuff, like the Market, for all of the tourists.

There's no parking, so it loses one star, but everything else was perfect about the Moore.

The Moore Hotel is a good fit for the budget-minded. The rooms are clean and the price and location two blocks from Pike Place Market cannot be beat, though its interior may leave you wondering why the owners would spring for a desk and paintings but no chair for the room. Don't go in with any illusions - this place is basic. But it's clean and it's cheap.  [This review is adapted from a longer post on Seattle at wanderingaround-DOT-net.]

My husband and I just returned from a long weekend in Seattle, spent three nights in the Moore Hotel.  We loved the location, loved the price even moore.... can't beat it.  I haven't stayed in a hostel since my early 20's and was pretty skeptical.  This place did NOT let us down.  We stayed in a private room with a private bath.  It was quiet, we felt totally safe, and the staff was so helpful in directing us to some of the greatest local spots.   Not to forget they have their own food and drink right downstairs, and can I say cheap??! The hotel is right on the border of downtown seattle (which for the most part we breezed over in a day), right by Pike Place Market,  and Belltown- this is where you have to go.  GREAT restaurants for every price point, great pubs, bars, nightlife.  We didn't find it until our last morning (after we asked the guys at the front desk for a recommendation OTHER than starbucks) but you must try Cafe D'arte, the best coffee we have EVER had.

Loved this place!  Great location, just a few blocks from Pike Place and within walking distance to many great tourist attractions in Seattle; including:  Seattle Aquarium, Library, Pioneer Sq., Art Museum, Ferries, great shopping, downtown bus system, and monorail to take you to the Space Needle.  This place was super clean, had friendly staff, and a nice, large room.  I was expecting a completely bare bones room, but it was great with a small fridge, microwave, tv, table and chairs, and private bath with a beautiful claw-foot tub.  Good water pressure, comfortable bed, large closet.   We stayed 4 nights, were on the 7th floor and had a window with an amazing view of the downtown and out onto the water.   There is a nice English pub/bar half a block away, as well as lots of other restaurants and bars.  And we felt safe coming into the place at night.  We took a bus from the airport and the drop off was only about 2 blocks from the Moore, so even with large luggage to cart around, we had no problems at all.
Only minor problem with the place was that it didn't furnish enough outlets for the microwave, fridge, or to recharge phones, or laptop, so we bought a cheap ($3) power strip at a drug store and the problem was easily rectified.
The Moore Hotel is a beautiful, classic building, the rooms were large and clean, it is located in a prime downtown spot, and the rates were cheap!  $86 bucks a night in July!  Call to make a reservation as you can get a better deal than on the internet.  I'd stay there again and again.
