I stumbled upon this place on my way north and decided I'd rather stay in Cambria than San Simeon to wake up close to the nice Moonstone beach I heard about.
Being during the week, there wasnt many other visitors, which was fine by me. I got the room at the top with a great view of the ocean just about 40 yards away.
The room was decent. But its clear the place has been around for a long time. Furniture is kinda old, there are holes in the wallpaper, but thats all just nit picking. It was a pleasant room overall. The bathroom was redone with a rather large shower (yes, for 2). There are even bathrobes available.
The manager indeed is a very friendly and helpful person. He liked to engage in local talk, help give restaurant recommendations. Exactly what a motel proprietor should be.
I'm glad I stayed here, hearing the ocean as I fell asleep and waking up in the morning to take a walk down Moonstone beach was the best.

This place was a treat. Bob is a terrific guy to talk to. He's lived in Cambria for 7 years and lived in San Francisco for 17 years before that. Originally from Detroit. You want a great sense of the geography of the area (Cambria is at the southern end of the protected marine life, it's where the beaches of southern Cal give way to the coast of northern Cal), of the politics (talk to him about Willie Brown, talk to him about Arnold), or about Cambria which is a wonderful little town. He runs a wonderful motel and he's a really easy going guy.

We stumbled upon this place while searching for a hotel on a Saturday afternoon, and it was perfect! The front desk woman was very nice, and we got a cute room with a big shower (big enough for two, whoo!) and a queen-sized bed for $99. There was a gas fireplace, and a little mini-fridge. There's also a nice, basic hot tub that overlooks the ocean.
This place sits right across the road (within earshot!) of the ocean, and you can hear the waves crash from your room at night.
They brought us breakfast on a tray, and it was delicious- oatmeal, a croissant, fruit, orange juice and coffee, all included in the price of a night's stay. Wonderful!
The bed was kind of uncomfortable and the pillows were too, which is the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars. But everything was very clean, very quiet, very good quality-- it's not the Ritz, but it's not a Motel 6 either.
I'd definitely stay here again if I was in Cambria!
